Room is large and updated, entrance is from the parking lot and runs through the building to your private balcony overlooking the water. We requested back building with view of Boldt Castle - fantastic! Staff friendly and helpful, free good coffee each morning in the office (also available in the room, but office coffee is excellent), and Uncle Sam's boat tours is next to the hotel. Good restaurant for breakfast across the street.

Our favorite part was the balcony overlooking the river and Boldt Castle. We couldn't have asked for a better setting. Even though it was October and chilly, we spent a lot of time on the balcony enjoying the water and several times watching the big ships go by. It felt like we were on a cruise boat.

Ideal location on waterfront with fantastic views of river, Boldt Castle and many other islands. Right next to Uncle Sam Boat Tours/taxi to Boldt (highly recommend) and Blu Anchor bar/grill (good food and drink). Easy walk up James St to shops and more "pitstops". Note: Alex Bay is a summer season tour town. Many bars, restaurants close down by late Sept. Room was clean, well equipped, spacious and comfortable. Would definitely stay again.

We even had a little balcony with a water view, which was a surprise. The staff were informative, friendly, professional, and responsive. For example, at around 8:20 PM the first night we were there, we could not figure out how to work the TV remote; we left a voicemail on the hotel’s phone number. I figured probably that no one would hear it till the next morning. But within 10 minutes, someone was knocking on our door, who said he heard the voicemail and was here to help. The bed pillows were very comfortable. There was delicious, freshly brewed coffee in the lobby in the morning. Another thing that I liked is they have a strict quiet time in the hotel 10 PM to 9 AM; so you don’t have to worry about raucous neighbors making too much noise. We were in Alexandria Bay September 29 to October 1. One thing to note at that time of the year a lot of restaurants are closed for breakfast; a few were open for dinner. The town is kind of quiet, which I liked. Capt. Thomson’s has a restaurant across the street from the hotel, which is open for all meals; the meals were good and service was quick at the dinner and breakfast meal we had over there.

I was worried about being woken up by the tour boats parked right outside but did not hear a thing. Only steps away from the main street but far enough to keep the noise down. Would definitely go back there.

The linens were spotlessly clean and you could smell freshness the minute you opened the door. The staff was friendly and answered all of our questions regarding the area. It had pretty good water view and so relaxing just sitting on the balcony. The only downside was the walking noise from upstairs. It was pretty loud and someone was walking even in the middle of the night and woke me up. We only hear one person walking and didn’t hear talking. Overall it was great stay. We’ll definitely come back but for the second floor.

- 921BarbaraP (10/5): Friendly, convenient, clean hotel. - We stayed at Capt. Thomson's for 3 nights and I don't have one negative comment to make. The entire staff was so friendly and helpful, the room was bright and very clean, bed was good and lots of hot water. There was even a Keurig coffee maker in the room which my husband loved! The parking was not bad considering the hotel was booked for the entire weekend. It's in the town center, the right next to the tour boats and a few very good restaurants. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

- rikster29 (10/5): Great place to stay in A-Bay! - The water views from the rooms here are gorgeous. You are right on the bay and St. Lawrence river and across from Boldt castle. The rooms also have balconies overlooking the river. We loved our visit there. The only things that would’ve been nice was if the windows in the room had screens to allow in the fresh air and sound of the river and if they offered breakfast. Town is very walkable and super cute.

We went to the front office to get fresh towels.No fresh linens. I wiped the floor with Lysol wipes. The floor was disgustingly black. The water view was nice and the hotel is in a convenient location.

- Elizabeth (10/5): Favorite place to stay! - I have stayed in many hotels, some very high-end, and Capt. Thompson's Resort is my favorite, by far. My room was directly on the water, facing Boldt Castle. The view is amazing, and the room and the linens (even the blankets, which hotels typically do not wash every time) smelled amazing. The location right in town is great too, you can walk to shops, restaurants and Uncle Sam's Boat Tours. I've stayed there probably 10 times, and I plan to go back year after year. Well worth the price!

We were running late checking out and I couldn’t find the extra key… the ladies were very patient and allowed me to search for it! Found it! All around no complaints at all! Thank you. There were no loud voices, walking overhead or outside distracting noise. Extremely quiet! Allowed dogs too. No barking was heard.

- Alyssa (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay! They called to let us know that our room was ready and we could check in earlier than expected, which we really appreciated. The location was close to the Uncle Sam Boat Tours as well as many shops and restaurants. The hotel staff made sure we always had fresh towels and everything we needed. The only slight issue was the dirty floor. We primarily left our shoes on when walking around the room so we didn’t get the bed dirty when we put our feet up. The bathroom, the furniture, and everything else was very clean.

The entire staff from the maids, the maintenace staff and especially the front desk staff. Everyone goes out of their way to ensure that each and every traveler has the best experience possible. The views from any of the rooms are of the St Lawence River. We would highly recommend a stay at Capt. Thomson's Resort.
