Guest Reviews
- Candice (10/5): - Loved this house. Lots of space and very homie. Cant wait to have a longer stay here!
- Enrique (8/5): Pleasant stay! But take note... - Our stay at The Guest House was very pleasant and the location was perfect for visiting our family in the area. I'm writing this, not to complain, but because I feel it may save some future complaints, if people know what they are getting into. First, this is a historic home. The condition isn't perfect. There are some uneven floors, etc. If this bothers you, dont stay. But we love history. So we were perfectly content. We stayed in the double queen room with private bath. The private bath is small with a very small shower and no bath. This wasn't a problem for us (other than when my husband accidental knocked the handle with his elbow and turned the water to cold đ
) and we aren't the smallest people ever. However, I could see a larger person not being comfortable in the shower or moving around in the bathroom. The beds were very comfortable and the room and bath were both clean.
- Pamela (10/5): - This was an entire 3 bedroom house. Beautiful
- CAROL (6/5): - We called the owner about 30 minutes prior to anticipated arrival; left message. We arrived but no one there and we left another message. We waited about 30 minutes and were about to leave when the owner called with code to let us into the home. The web site states "breakfast included" but, when I texted the owner that everning requesting a breakfast time, the owner replied that "We haven't served breakfast since COVID" and we had to spend about $20 at a restaurant for breakfast.
- Allison (10/5): - Beautiful place, very clean and friendly owner.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Cozy comfort - This was a peaceful escape with small-town charm. You'll hear the occasional creak of old floors, but it adds to the authentic charm, character and warmth. Clean and spacious with thoughtful decorating and touches throughout. Host Debbie was accommodating and flexible when I failed to notify in advance of our arrival as requested in the booking. Appreciate that! .
- Thomas (6/5): NOT HONEST - I understand that places all have different refund policies. I called more than enough notice to try and cancel my second night without penalty. The property owner told me that no one from Hotels.com tried to contact her when yaâll tried in my behalf to contact the property. I then received an email from yaâll at Hotels.com saying the property owner denied the request to cancel. My issue is just be honest with me rather than saying Hotels.com never contacted you as the property owner. đĄ
- Jane (10/5): - Charming Guest house with comfy four poster beds. Would stay again. Would add coffee creamer and sweetener to kitchen.
- Sharon (10/5): - Enjoyed our stay, had the house to ourselves. Charming get away, would book again.
- Donna (10/5): - The water never got warm in the shower but, everyone was friendly.
- kevin (10/5): - Thank you very much Mrs. Debra for the special accommodation. I appreciated your little home and had a great time!
- Roger (4/5): - Took owner 15 minutes to show up to property we booked but wanted us to stay in different property. House was dirty. Bed very uncomfortable.
- Brittany (2/5): - The lady that rented it out was very rude
- Carl (8/5): - The house was old, no cooking equipment.
- Steven (8/5): - Historical property well maintained
- Fred (10/5): - It was an old house in very good condition and loaded with many interesting things. There was a nice patio with a bench swing. The bed was very comfortable. We were the only ones booked at that time so we had the whole house to ourselves. Upstairs there are two bedrooms with a shared bath.
- Preston (6/5): An okay place to stay - This was an okay place to stay. The owner/host was extremely nice. However, although advertised as a bed & breakfast with a âfull breakfast from 8:30 to 9:30â, there was no breakfast. The owner said she stopped that when Covid started. It seems like some provisions could have been made. Like danishes, yogurt, juice, water, something, in the fridge. Also, there was no air conditioning in our room & the bathroom was extremely small.
- Carrie (6/5): - Beautiful home. Sad that the up keep on the home is not be looked after. Quite neighborhood was nice.
- Damon (10/5): - Cozy house, quick drive to many small towns around the area. Enjoyed sitting on the front porch.
- George (8/5): - Bed was very comfortable
- Deirdre Fay (10/5): - Debra was amazing and the property is beautiful!
- Charles (8/5): - Very unique and interesting place. Quite comfortable overall. Fortunately we were the only guests upstairs so we had complete access to bathroom. If other guests had been there it would have been a shared space. Thatâs the only negative.
- Keneth (2/5): - This was not at all what I was expecting. I would not return.
- ian (2/5): - This is a quaint old property and the bedroom and bed were clean and comfortable, However, we arrived on a very windy night to an empty house with the door blown wide open and all sorts of leaves and debris blowing in. The rug at the front was blown up and plant pots around the door had blown over and soil was everywhere. We never saw any staff during the whole stay. There were no instructions in the place to get wi-fi password or explain the arrangements for breakfast. A used cleaning cleaning cloth had been left in the shower/bath. The window frame in the bedroom was rotten. After going out to eat we returned to find the door blown open again. We put the deadlock on to keep it shut during the night. In the morning we had to leave without the included breakfast. The owners refused to offer a refund for this.
- Kristina (10/5): - It was beautiful, the outdoor area is so pretty, would definitely go back
- Madeline (6/5): - The owner cancelled day-of on us. Even though she didnât charge us for this booking and told us where we could get another room, that other room ended up being expensive since it was last minute. Seemed like a nice property and owner, unfortunate that we couldnât experience it and that the experience was a stressful one for me.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Ok if you want an old home/place to sleep - This is a nice old home for people that adore antiques and such. The shower and bathroom are very tiny. The drive way is also small. There was no television in the bedroom and I could not find toilet paper to replace roll. There was no breakfast offered even though it stated it would be included.
- Elaine (6/5): - Note: Keep in mind that my review is for our room specifically. It does not represent the condition of the entire property, and another couple staying there in the house were really enjoying their stay. Our room was an addition on the back of the house. The room was large, beds were soft and comfortable, and linens were also really nice. The drawbacks were the lack of air conditioning and unusual, small bathroom. The house was cool and comfortable but we had no air in our particular room since it was an addition. The bathroom was weird because you had to turn sideways to get through between the upright shower and door. Our host, Debbie, was one of the friendliest people anyone you would meet. We talked for a long time and had an enjoyable conversation. It was just a lack of air conditioning and the bathroom for our room in the addition that affects this review.
- Lise (8/5): lovely B & B but no breakfast - We were looking to stay in the town where we were looking at property & there were only 2 B&Bs, no restaurants, so we picked 1. The room was comfortable, but the shutters in our room didn't block all the outside lights. And the cooked breakfast wasn't provided, not was anything there for us, not even continental. Called the owner, to find out, but got no response.
- Randall (10/5): - Beautiful home with many amenities. Well decorated and convenient to our needs.
- Eric (10/5): Enjoyed our visit. - Our construction crew stayed there and had a really nice time. We would stay there again.
- jc (10/5): Like home - Cozy and Southern Charm Property , very Home like , truly feel comfortable , Thank You .
- michael (4/5): - Took a reservation but was unable to privide a room as they were booked
- Joni (10/5): - Comfortable cozy at-home feeling. Access to a kitchen and outdoor seating. Host exceptional !
- Marivi (10/5): - Nice house, good hospitality
- Joseph (10/5): - It's a nice house.
- Deborah (10/5): - We stayed at the Gate House, this came up on my email. The Gate House was excellent.
- Jodi (6/5): Nice lookingâŚkinda deceiving - Was not able to reach owner right away. Took about an hour to call back. House was nice looking. Upstairs bathtub leaked into downstairs, hot water ran out very quickly. Cable was spotty at best. Upstairs shower was very dark. Was very grateful for the lodging as surrounding towns were mostly sold out and was sitting for a 6 hour board exam the following day in the town over, but stay was not as enjoyable and relaxing as I had hoped for. Owner was very nice, but being honest, under normal circumstances I would have contested charges or complained moreâŚexcept for the ownerâs pleasant demeanor.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely home, friendly service
- Dianna D (10/5): - Our hostess was fabulous! I really enjoyed the yummy breakfast each morning.
- Crystal (10/5): Like staying with family - My daughter and I were making a college visit to Centre in Danville. It was a convenient location and Debbie was just great. The bed was comfortable and everything was neat as a pin. It was like staying with family.
- Jason (10/5): - Quite and friendly. The owner was very helpful and let us stay in her home like it was ours.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Kentucky character and charm - My dad and I stayed here as a place to stay for a family funeral. We met Debbie, the host, who was a very nice lady, as soon as we arrived. She had a project going on to expand the outside seating area and it looks like it will be fantastic! The home was built in 1906, I believe, and it boasts a lot of space. We were the only guests staying, so we had absolutely no problems (noise, etc). Each room has been lovingly restored. The home could absolutely use a little more attention, but it was perfectly acceptable. My own home does, as well! Debbie couldn't have been more friendly, and I would definitely stay again. We cooked our own breakfast with the ingredients Debbie provided (for some reason, I thought that breakfast would be cooked for us, but that's ok). Lovely stay at a lovely old, grand dame.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Good start - Disappointing end - The Hostess greeted us and helped us arranged in our room. She explained about the use of a space heater if we got cold, She invited us to help our selves to items in the refrigerator. She explained the security code so we could come and go as needed. She apologized for dishes left in the kitchen and trash bag needing to be taken out. We returned late in the evening and the dishes and trash were still there. We checked out choices in the fridge - there was juices, tea, bag of bagels and cobbler with a spoon left in it. Sunday morning we were not offered breakfast, we decided not to contact the hostess since she may have been at church. Instead we went to Frischâs. It was not a positive experience.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Disorganized Mess - We stayed on a very busy weekend when most area hotels were booked. I felt lucky to find 2 beds near-ish to where we needed to be. The day of our stay I tried to contact the owner to find out how and when we could check in. She spent about 20 minutes trying to decide where I was staying and never did give me information about the procedure. My co-worker and I arrived at the house about 9p and no one was even there. We let ourselves in and looked for someone, then waited awkwardly in the foyer. A few minutes later, the owner showed up toting bags. She informed us that our room was not ready yet. We had to wait downstairs while she made the beds. After we got settled, I went down to give her my credit card info and to ask about breakfast. She asked what time we needed to leave and I told her about 7:15a. She said the rest of the folks staying in the house wouldn't be arriving until late in the night and asked if we had dietary restrictions.
The next morning, she texted me at 6:30 saying she wasn't going to fix breakfast. She was going to send us to a local diner and comp our meal. That was fine, but when we arrived at the diner, they weren't event open. I texted the owner and let her know and never heard anything. My coworker and I had to buy ourselves breakfast elsewhere.
The owner never contacted me again. We stayed there in October. I was *just* billed more than 2 mo later- full price. Not impressed.
- Michelle (10/5): Nice night! - Debbie, the host was fantastic! We had a nice night. We were fortunate and had the whole house to ourselves. Breakfast was yummy!
- Craig (10/5): Best Bed&Breakfast in Kentucky - We were late in arriving and the owner took special care in making sure we were taken care of
- Verified traveler (2/5): No one was there - The door was locked and no one was home to let us in. I called phone only voice-mail. We left and got a call 20 minutes later begging us to come back - we refused and they said they were charging us the room fee anyway!!
- George (10/5): Antique getaway - We checked in to a cute house with a nice front porch and a swing in the side yard. The owner met us there and gave us a tour of the house. There were beautiful bed rooms and antique furniture throughout. We stayed upstairs in the front room. It was beautiful.
- Bret (10/5): Great place to stay! - Very relaxing and nicevenvironment. The owner is a beautiful person inside and out.
- jack (10/5): Wonderful Bed and Breakfast - Charming Bed and Breakfast in restored 1909 home in the rustic town of Lancaster.
Wonderful ambiance and home cooked breakfast made this stay special!
- Corey (10/5): Like coming back to your own home - This bed and breakfast was quiet, with incredibly comfortable beds and very, very clean. The hottest was super friendly and breakfast was nice. It was like coming back to my childhood home but only better.
