Richard B (9/5): Wonderful room - The room was fantastic - plenty of space, large and comfortable bed, big TV, excellent shower. There was a Nespresso-type coffee machine and tea making facilities. There was a very limited selection of vegetarian options on the dinner menu and dinner was expensive but good; breakfast is taken next door rather than in the hotel restaurant and didn’t feel like good value.

Reasonably priced bar with a good selection of beers/ales, etc. Bar staff during the day took the time to share samples of guest ales available - a very nice touch. Rooms were very clean, and beds very comfortable. Coffee needed work. I could see the restaurant had all the equipment, but the coffee fell short of expectations. Ordered a flat white, which was weak and tasted like filter coffee with some milk added. Some bar staff need to improve their friendliness towards paying non-local guests (other staff across the hotel were friendly, approachable, and very helpful). A bias was evident towards their local clientele from some of the staff. One member of evening bar staff was lamenting about my group out in the courtyard, as we were a little to rowdy for their liking. We were high-spirited yes; it was our wake for our deceased mother - what did they expect in a pub??? That aside, I would stay again, as the overall experience was positive.

Joanne (5/5): Ok stay - The staff on arrival, were friendly and helpful. The food and the service in the restaurant was 10/10 couldn't fault it. No extraction fan in the bathroom. If there is it doesnt work Dust on mirror Only venetian blinds so if your a light sleeper you will be awake early if the loud humming sound doesnt wake you up first. Metal bed frame that squeaks with every movement. Stains on the carpet but I get this is general wear and tear.

Breakfast was not included in the price. We paid extra for breakfast, and it was okay - a bit expensive in some ways. For example, over £4 for toast and jam. The fried breakfast was nice, but again, not very cheap - especially if you add a coffee and a juice. In the room, one thing I found odd was the way the little soap was replaced every day by housekeeping…I’m sure one of those would have lasted our whole stay. Seemed a little unnecessary to me. But these are all small things…I’d happily stay again. So much nicer than a big chain hotel.

Judy (9/5): A real treat and a great extension to our cruise which we started from Tilbury just 15 mins away. - Exceptionally friendly staff, characterful building and interesting and pretty village setting. The breakfast and dinner while obviously not included in the room rate were first class as before. Parking on site and comfortable room. The shower wasn't as powerful as we would have liked but the water pressure may have been affected by the weather.
