- Marnee (8/5): Good location, decent accommodations - Unique Shared bathrooms had throw up all over them in the morning (I went into two found this way)

- Bryan (9/5): My day was great really good location for what I needed and a very nice facility with a lot of charm. - The property was very unique and well laid out. Nice amenities and charm. Would’ve been nice to have your own bathroom in the room, but wound up not being an issue
- Mary (10/5): - What an amazing, unforgettable hotel. I stayed 4 nights and loved every moment, from the boho Silversun Pickups room to the basement bar and gorgeous restaurant and soaking pool. The Crystal ballroom was only one block away. I can't wait to go back! I had to come home.
- Shupak (10/5): -
- Otis-local (10/5): Hope to return again soon!! - Funky Cool Hotel we have stayed here a dozen or more times for many years. Tons of good food within walking distance, also a Whole foods market. Very nice soaking pool in the basement. Great for a weekend getaway!
- Jadeane (8/5): - Loved the restaurant. The food was great! And enjoyed the soaking tub. Staff was great! N/A
- Gryphonisl (8/5): A Solid Hotel IF You Don’t Need En-suite Bath/Toilet - I’ve stayed here several times. Zeus, their locally sourced restaurant did not reopen after Covid, yet there is Hal’s in its place. I did not eat or drink there but if it’s McMenamins, it’s bound to be good, if a bit Everything McMenamins.
Again, this hotel one has one or two rooms with an en-suite bath. Those down the hall are spotlessly clean. If you demand an in room toilet and shower, this might not be your hotel.
Rooms here are tiny, even by old hotel standards. No TV (there is hotel WiFi but for my uses I got by on cellular). I believe the room comes with free beer (there was a jar with a certificate for it under the night stand). I was under the weather so didn’t take them up on it.
You’re right across Burnside from the Pearl district. Whole Foods is just across Burnside and Powells Books is a block away. Great location.
The rooms are darkly painted and lighting isn’t merely mood lighting but moody, period, very dim, so come with a pocket flashlight if your phone isn’t your best light.
I like this place and will come here again.

- J9159IEemilyk (10/5): Couples overnight - Fun place! Quiet and clean, but lots to do in the area and in the hotel. Soaking pool was lovely! I would recommend for an urban getaway.
- Lucas (5/5): - The pool was really fantastic The service seemed reluctant to help, and the shared bathrooms were a hassle, both of which seemed unreasonable at the price we paid for our stay.
- Tyler (9/5): -
- Emma (10/5): Was good - Clean room and friendly staff!
- Molly (10/5): -
- Morris (10/5): - The atmosphere and staff were kind and informative. Happy to help us with anything we needed. Everyone around was cheerful and the place had a great vibe. I can't wait to stay here again, one night is NOT enough. I can't complain about a single thing
- Todd (7/5): -
- Spencer (10/5): - Staff is always great and it's always bittersweet when I have to leave.
- Dana (10/5): - Super fun, funky, unique hotel experience! The “soaking pool” was actually a hot tub (no jets) which was a fun surprise! The bed was very comfy and the staff was incredibly friendly. I had so much fun staying here with my friend. My ONLY complaint was that the walls are thin and windows don’t do much to block outdoor sound, all due to it being a historic building (honestly what else can you expect for the price?!). Parking is $26 overnight at the garage down the street, which is a steal compared to other cities. Free coffee in the morning is GOOD and I’m picky!!
- Samantha (1/5): Horrible never again! - Horrible experience street noise all night people upstairs having loud sex banging headboard for a hour. Called downstairs they said they would send nighttime security up never happened. They didn’t even call the room to ask them to quiet down! Mentioned at checkout all they said was sorry! At least offer discount for stay free breakfast something 😉
- Terrifree (6/5): Nice but loud and AC issue - This hotel is located in the heart of Portland. This hotel has so much character and there is so much to do here. When we arrived in our room on the second floor and mini split AC was on. We could not turn unit down nor could we turn it off. We called the front desk and the gal working the desk and another employee came up and tried to turn it off and they were not successful. She advised she would have someone come the next day and take a look so suffice to say we had to hear and feel cool air blast out of this unit all night! The next day we advised the gentleman at the front desk of the issue and we went out and about all day to enjoy our visit in Portland. When we returned the Unit was still running on high and we could not turn it off. We wanted to enjoy our room and the rest of our stay so we just put up with it but were disappointed not one could take the time and fix this this issue. ps. it did drown out all the road noise that was constant and loud that we heard from our room windows.
- madrvrwmn (10/5): Midlifers stay at The Crystal Hotel - My husband and I take getaways to Portland a few times a year and The Crystal is one of our go-tos. The staff is always courteous and helpful, the location is nicely kept, and centrally located, it’s perfectly safe, but active, and the rooms and bathrooms are very clean and comfortable. We especially like the Burnside side to stay in. The soaking pool is inviting and clean. The ambiance is unbelievably retro fusion. If that doesn’t make sense, just stay here and it will. It’s very nice.
- kentb834 (10/5): A Must stay HOTEL ! - Great hotel ! It has a super vibe and I will return soon ! Everything about this place is TOP NOTCH, including the staff ! HURRAY !
- Michael (4/5): - Very Bohemian in nature. Staff was good. Room was cluttered, dusty, and felt musty.
- Lisa (10/5): - Great Staff!
- John (10/5): - Unique and charming historic hotel in downtown Portland
- Gregory (10/5): - Classic styling to the hotel and rooms. Cool layout in bar area and can’t be in a better spot for things to do!
- NICOLE (4/5): - Really sus lack of clarity in their advertising about the lack of bathrooms. This is more of a hostel. They need to be much more upfront in their online profiles
- Paul (10/5): - Nice size room, clean, fun de or and so close to powells
- Collin (10/5): - The pool was amazingly beautiful.
- Alice (10/5): - The property was very interesting as historical so was a little different. Great staff & location. Just be aware that no TV in room or bathroom-just a sink. There were several bathrooms on the floor so no problem & always clean. We would stay there again.
- Aine (10/5): - Amazing decor, friendly staff. Soaking pool is a great way to relax. All the toilets and showers were spotlessly clean
- Katrina (6/5): - I liked it but they should make it more clear that you do need t get your own bathroom. Likewise, this may have been bad timing but the bathroom across the hall from us had blood in the shower and was dirty. In all fairness we were too busy to let anyone know.
- Gema (8/5): - We LOVED our quick check in … We were an hour early and thought they would not let us check in, But they checked us in no problem. They acknowledged our dog and were kind and professional. The hotel is located Downtown Portland and the city started at 6:30am on a Saturday with a drill hammer to hammer the sidewalk right in front of our room. Not the best way to wake up. We loved the salt water pool. WE WILL VISIT AGAIN … the shared bathroom was Always clean A+
- Casie (10/5): - Cool property. We landed at midnight, walked to scooter McQuade’s, had drinks and apps at 1:30 am, and a great experience at the bar. Bathrooms are good, we slept good, parked by the door, swam in the morning. Nice and easy.
- James (10/5): - The decor and ambiance The window was hard to get to Stay open
- Linda (10/5): - Great place to stay if you want to explore Pearl district on foot. Love this property. Soaking tub a huge plus!
- James J (10/5): - Unique character and reasonable cost
- brucefT1456BX (8/5): - Excellent location and unique design. Great on site amenities restaurant and or bar.
Highly recommend this property.
- David (10/5): - Unique music-focused rooms. Safe and easily accessible. Close to plenty of restaurants and bars. Would recommend.
- John (10/5): - This is not your typical hotel. If you're looking for a Hilton type stay go stay at a Hilton-tyoe place. This is more artsy and almost private room at a hotel feel, in a good, unique way
- Briana (9/5): -
- Ivan (9/5): -
- Stuart (10/5): Exceptional - The stay was great 👍 No on site parking and parking garages a block over very expensive 😒
- Spencer (7/5): -
- Heather (8/5): - If you like art, stay here.
- Donna (8/5): - The peoperty was good. We booked 2 beds. Our room was 1 bed. No recourse since we didn’t book through them.
- Arnold (6/5): - center of downtown,
the facility is old,
rooms are a little bit dark ,
no table,
bed are uncomfortable,
3 restroom in each floor with 10 rooms sharing it, not that bad considered, wash sink
really a room only with bed and sink nothing more, no closet or table.
there's a lot of safe parking nearby.
overall im not going back here again unless it is very cheap price. Also elevator is scary its cracking whenever you use it lol
- Jonathan (7/5): Good - The restaurant is always great The carpet in the room felt oily and was hard packed. Left a film on my feet and shoes
- Debbie (10/5): - What a sweet queen room! So fun that each room had a song theme! The staff went out of their way to be accommodating and helpful. I had to get my water bottle filled at the bar as my room sink was fairly shallow and the bartenders were always happy to fill me to the top!
There were 4 shared bathrooms on the floor which I found to be convenient. I loved the use of a robe and plenty of towels to use when going down the hall.
It's an older hotel so I could hear the big party of people next to me the first night but the staff quickly came to disperse and quiet them down politely. I appreciated that immensely.
- Kristen (10/5): - We’ve always loved staying at McMenamins any chance we get !! The crystal ballroom is a great one if you want to stay downtown Portland It’s in the heart of everything… We especially love there soaking pool! After a day of traveling the soaking pool and a pitcher of Ruby beer is a must for us !
- Future (8/5): Distinctly Portland vibe - It is located alongside Burnside, the main street in downtown. I also liked the quirky, charming, and distinctly Portland vibe of this hotel. The receptionists are also very kind. I think this hotel is doing a commendable job, especially given the housing crisis in Portland. However, there are a couple of things that could be improved:
Towel Sanitation – I’m not asking for brand-new towels, but it would be great if the existing ones could be sanitized more thoroughly, perhaps with bleach occasionally, to help eliminate lingering smells.
AC Cleaning – I understand that cleaning the air conditioning system can be costly, but the moldy odor coming from the unit affected my first impression when entering the room.
That said, I really like this hotel and look forward to trying the soaking pool on my next visit!
- Mandi (10/5): - Romantic for sure! Great place for a getaway
- Erickson (10/5): Central location intimate stay - We loved the soaking tub! It was the perfect temperature and beautifully intimate. We loved our stay! My partner was bummed that there wasn't a TV. That was his only complaint.
- Shellie (10/5): - Always a great stay, food options great, staff polite and friendly, soaking pool amazing, and overall a great view of Portland!
- Joseph (10/5): - Fun hotel with lots to look at. Conveniently located restaurant and bar on 1st floor. Nice bars in walking distance. Walking distance to China Town and water front. Portland appears cleaner than years before.
- Armstrong (5/5): It was ok but definitely not worth the price. - It's a cool old building. $155 for the smallest hotel room I've ever seen. No tv, shared bathrooms, and the slowest elevator.
- Cochise (10/5): - Awesome place!
- Rachel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Renier-bertolucci (9/5): Superb -
- Ashley (10/5): Beautiful and relaxing stay -
- Cristina (10/5): I love this place - This was my second time at this hotel- so unique and fun! I enjoyed the salt water soaking pool, and the proximity to Crystal Ballroom and whole foods. Staff was super helpful. The elevator was creaky and disconcerting
- Dana (8/5): Very good -
- Revoredo (8/5): Very good -
- MacKenzie (10/5): - Such a quirky spot. I’ve always wanted to stay here, finally did and was not disappointed! Everything you need under one roof. The shared bathroom isn’t bad. Not ideal but for a night or two it’s easy! I never ran into anyone.
- Erika (10/5): - Such a fun and unique stay! Perfect spot to walk around the pearl district
- Severiana (10/5): - Staff was friendly, the check in process was easy and the amenities were top-notch. Location was in a very walkable area near many attractions, I would definitely stay here again!
- Ramisi (7/5): Good -
- N9678XQaprilh (8/5): Crystal Ballroom a good deal - Typical fun, quirky Mcmenamin's. Hal's breakfast was excellent. Friendly staff. Problem: heating did not work and I was too cold to sleep well. Also, the extra blanket was on a high shelf and I couldn't reach it. Room needs better lighting.
- aaron (10/5): - The Crystal Hotel is am amazing property. Will be staying again. Has restaurants and restaurants close. Providence Park was only a 10 min walk.
There is parking near by, but read the reviews for parking.
Overall a great experience..
- Marvina (10/5): - The night shift girl was very friendly and helpful. The long hot tub was warm and clean. Our room was decorated very cute. It was nice to have a sink in the room. The shared bathrooms were close and clean. We had a great time!
- David (10/5): - Place is awesome!
- Robert (10/5): - Very unique property right in the heart of Portland. Easy to walk neighborhood with lots of great dining options
- IsagenixBeliever (10/5): We love our McMenamins! - Crystal Hotel was 90% awesome. We needed an accessible room and it was great. Kitschy and comfortable except the bed was super firm for our old bones and also super noisy from street noise. Complimentary ear protection would be a nice addition for folks on the Burnside side of the building. Other than that- we loved our stay and the ease to get around the area. Staff as always are so welcoming.
- V3305XZhelenn (8/5): Very welcoming - The staff was welcoming and friendly . I was tired after a long day in the road and felt good to be at a home away from home . The McMenamins passport program has made my travels more fruitful . In this hotel I had a shared bathroom but did not ever have any issue getting into it. I did not try the soaking tub in the basement — too tired. The city was loud through the second story windows but got calm at about 10 PM . Slept like a log ! Great spot.
- Elise (10/5): Exceptional -
- Smith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brent (9/5): My wife and I had a comfortable night’s sleep as well as a very tasty breakfast at Hal’s Cafe. - Fun & funky rooms with comfortable queen-sized rooms. Nothing.
- Smith (1/5): Bad -
- Jacqueline (3/5): Poor -
- Ava (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nathan (8/5): - I’m not happy
- Verified traveler (8/5): My thoughts. - It was a good stay! Fascinated by the hotel's history, and appreciated the staff's willing to be of assistance. Was not exactly expecting for the bathroom to be shared, I may have glossed over that fact. Wished there was some kind of mini fridge in the room for any leftover foods to avoid any chance of food going bad otherwise anything I had to eat will be just tossed out. Noise in environment around rooms were ok, you could hear footsteps from other visitors, but it isn't as bad as you think! Would stay here again although, and try out more things to do in the area!
- Sage (7/5): Good -
- Beatrice (10/5): - Hot water soaking pool was amazing.
- Katja (4/5): - The pool is fabulous. The shared bathrooms is also no issue. The room we had "wrecking ball" smelled awful. Even with window open did not help. Sheets short and old. No space to put down anything. Hotel had crazy chrges added on and did not honor our Expedia rate.
- Jacob (6/5): Cute Place, Great Stay, Grumpy Staff - The location was wonderful and the room's design was inventive and fun.
They gave plenty of towels. Our room had a wonderful view and the amenities seemed plentiful. The shared bathroom had some interesting dark spots near the door grout. And the elevator seemed like it was about to fall apart.
The hostess was having a bad time and I'm sorry to say, I think we overstayed the HARD checkout time (which we were unaware of), and made her day MORE stressful. Not pleasant for anyone involved.
- Jeff (10/5): Enjoyed our stay - Didn’t have breakfast More NA Beers
- Alyssa (10/5): - I so appreciated all the staff. Everyone was more than happy to help and accommodate us. Great people and great food!
- Kayla (8/5): - First time staying at a place with shared bathrooms & I was pleasantly surprised. Crystal Hotel keeps the bathrooms very clean and I did not have trouble finding an available bathroom when I needed one.
Pros: Clean, friendly staff, soaking tub, convenient food, location is perfect if you're attending a Crystal Ballroom event or want to walk around and shop, in room air/temp controls.
Cons: Rooms are quite dark and small (stayed in a Queen). I'm thankful I read that in review and brought my own light! Shared bathrooms may not be everyone's cup of tea. Parking was less than ideal - it's only a couple of city blocks away, but it's inconvenient not to be able to access your car easily if you forget something. Also, walking around downtown with heavy luggage trying to find the hotel in the pouring rain is not a fun experience. I think they have parking out front you can drop your stuff at before going to park, but they were blocked or full when I arrived.
- Ashley (10/5): - Always a favorite spot to see concerts and stay. Its downtown Portland, but it’s really honestly the best option if you’re walking and don't need to go far. Our first choice when seeing concerts at Crystal Ballroom. Also food in the restaurant is amazing.
- Christy (10/5): - This historic building has fantastic vibes and was within easy walking distance to our music venue and Powell’s - definitely will consider this place again when needing to stay in Portland. (Rooms are small, but that’s a perk imo!)
- Steven (5/5): Passable -
- Joel (10/5): - Staff are amazing.
- Luiz (3/5): Poor -
- Autumn (9/5): Superb -
- S.b. (10/5): - Location is great, soaking pool is very relaxing and the staff is always pleasant. Free coffee is excellent. I always have a great time here.
