Guest Reviews
- Theresa (6/5): Pleasant - Our room was good, but my daughter's had damp areas in 5he bathroom. We stayed here sixteen years ago, and loved it, but is has become a bit run down now. Our room overlooked the pool, which was rather nice. My daughter's damp room, and her view of the concrete wall. It seemed very run down.
- Farrell (7/5): Good -
- Rhys (8/5): Very good - Friendly staff, nice and quite during the night Only thing I didn't like was the bed, very hard and uncomfortable.
Very happy with everything else
- changting (8/5): - In the centre, good location, accessible by public transport. Decent sized rooms, however the inside could do with a refurbishment such as the furniture and paint. The actual structure and flooring are still very good.
- Pimthong (10/5): Valuable stay - Big, clean room. Good breakfast. Good price Have no
- Anonymous (6/5): Pleasant -
- Sarah (5/5): Royal bangkok khoasan road - Location The room dated had rust fridge and paint work water make and bathroom old tiles chipped and black marks I have usually had nice room in the old original dude of hotel this other part is in need of modernised 1
- Tasia (7/5): Good -
- Richard (8/5): Very good - Great location near many of the attractions surrounding the Royal Palace. Good-sized room and furnishings, with a nice bathroom, good water pressure, and hot water temperature. Friendly staff and a nice buffet breakfast. No complaints. We had a nice stay at the hotel.
- Barry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rosalia (2/5): - Horrible place. PleaseDO NOT BOOK
- Zsinka (4/5): Disappointing - Leaving it. Maybe the location, but there are many homless people around. Sadly, the hotel is not as beautiful as in the pictures. Maybe it was, like 10-15 years ago. The breakfast is really poor, not fresh. The restaurant has really low quality.
- Sofia (7/5): Overall it was amazing, the rooms is clean and bed is comfortable - Near in parks, temples and night markets. There was a tiny cockroach in the bread, but the lady/staff change it for us.
- Yanee (9/5): Superb -
- Dennis (7/5): Good -
- Ella (7/5): Good - I recently stayed at the Royal Rattanakosin Hotel and had a lovely experience overall. The biggest highlight is definitely the location—you’re just a short walk from the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and the lively Khaosan Road. It's a fantastic base for anyone wanting to explore Bangkok’s rich cultural history.
The rooms were clean and comfortable, with classic Thai touches in the décor. I stayed in a Deluxe Room, which had a nice city view and plenty of space. The bed was comfy, and the air conditioning worked well—a must in Bangkok!
As for the breakfast, it was decent. A mix of Western and Thai options—eggs, sausages, rice dishes, fresh fruit, and some pastries. Not a five-star buffet, but good enough to start your day.
The staff were friendly and helpful, and the lobby has a traditional, slightly vintage feel that adds to the charm. The hotel could benefit from a few updates in certain areas, but for the price and location, it’s a solid choice.
Would recommend for travelers who want comfort and convenience in the Old Town without breaking the bank. The room felt very outdated and in need of serious maintenance. The furniture looked worn, and the bathroom had mold in the corners and a persistent musty smell. The air conditioner worked, but it was incredibly noisy and made it hard to sleep. The walls were thin too—I could hear everything happening in the hallway and next door.
- Kath (2/5): Avoid it - A tatty old hotel in dire need of a refurb. Reception staff dismissive and rude, wifi cut off a lot, no top sheet on beds when you arrive, so you have to hasstle to get one. Breakfast buffet dreadful. Rooms with no light painted in bleak colours with peeling wallpaper. A bleak and depressing place.
The location is good.
- Paul (4/5): Adequate but nothing more ! - Excellent location for exploring the royal palace and Khoisan Road, but this hotel is long long past its best days This once grand hotel has seen better days, very dated and tired looking. Reception staff are not very pleasant, don’t bother booking the breakfast as the choice was extremely limited and Khoisan Road is only a 5 minute walk away.
We stayed in a 2 bed family room. In fairness the room was ok for our needs but the beds were very hard and uncomfortable, an 8ft x 4ft piece of hardboard would have had more padding!
The area immediately around the hotel is filled with scores of homeless people living on the streets and although they don’t bother you some people may find it rather unnerving when walking to the hotel.
There are plenty of similarly priced hotels in Bangkok so my advice would be to pay the extra and get somewhere nicer.
- Gittoes (9/5): Great place - Location was great Coffee at breakfast was cold
- Roland (6/5): Last stay after 30 years. - Have been coming here for 30 year and sadly watched it deteriorate. Now a shabby and well worn hotel. Double room with tatty furniture and one stool for seating and plain wooden flooring. We won't be coming back.
- Gary (8/5): Very good -
- Yanee (10/5): Old but still beautiful. Refurnished room. Good location & Good breakfast! - Old but still beautiful. The hotel’s hall made me feel like riding a timemachine to the gorgeous past of Bangkok. I’m really loveit! But the guest room is newly refurnished! Very comfy and full facilities! The breakfast is delicious! There is parking lot behind the hotel building. Very convenience. If there was a handwash soap in the guest room, it would be best! And if you don’t like old place or vintage style. This hotel may made you feel uncomfortable.
- Mudit (4/5): Disappointing - Some of the Staff was very rude
- Abdulaziz (2/5): - Very dirty and nosiy
- Joseph (10/5): Lovely rooms and a even better location. - Great rooms on the right side of reception, recommend paying the extra for the upgraded rooms. Staff brilliant and location superb. Traffic can be a little noisy on the rooms close to the road but only a issue if got really bad jet lag and can’t sleep at night.
- Edmond (7/5): Good -
- Sarah (4/5): It was very basic and my first room wasn’t clear at all but staff soon changed my room - It was close to grand palace I had bed bugs and ants in my room
- Vaisakh (5/5): Passable - Nothing to like Old building with no maintenance, dust everywhere, clean plates before food, bathroom doors is a mess
- Ashesh (2/5): Very poor -
- Terra (2/5): Worst hotel I’ve stayed in!! - The staff at the front desk were very ungrateful and were very snotty when we asked them anything. The other staff were excellent, but first impressions were not. Total hotel was in terrible shape, old and dirty.
- Joseph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Phil (7/5): Good -
- Phil (8/5): Very good -
- Neil (4/5): Disappointing - Nothing Mattress absolutely shocked to pieces must’ve been on the bed for 20 years dirty room
- Richard (8/5): Great location all the staff friendly and helpful - Great location
- Pawel (8/5): - Staff extremely nice and helpful. Nice area with a public transport around.
Room would benefit with refreshing.
Bed mattress need to be replaced as they were not comfortable at all.
Swimming pool open only until 6pm, which makes it useless for us.
Over all very pleased stay (thanks to hotel staff).
- Lotta (5/5): Passable -
- Silvia (2/5): - Do NOT stay here (Feb 2025), read all the recent reviews there are known issues and problems. Find a different place to stay.
Do you want to wake up with a bedbug crawling on your bed? I didn't think so.
There are also cockroaches, baby ones.
I had to be changed room twice, for a three night stay. So disgusted I had to leave after the second night and get another hotel, so double the cost for that night.
I only stayed here because of friends staying here and planned a tour, so it seemed convenient.
-Local people recommend it, probably because of the hotel's former glory, it has marble floors after all...
Advertises as 4 star hotel, should be 0 star.
CONS:
-Very busy, loud street, with lots of vagrant people right outside, it smells of urine and if you want ot go anywhere walking, you will have to zig zag around them. There are free meals for them close to the side of the property.
-No restaurants or attractions within walking distance without walking through dark, smelly sidewalks.
-Hotel was build in the 1940s, seems very little work since then.
-Check in: short tempered receptionist saying loudly "sign here", without giving you time to read.
-Massive cell phone tower next to hotel (south).
-Lots of moskitoes inside the hotel, and in the rooms.
-Only one card key per room, two people? you will have to synchronize your timings.
-Rooms dated. Minor renovations.
-Mold, cockroaches, bedbugs, moskitoes.
-Bathroom disgususting
-Carpets filthy.
GOOD:
Hot water, water pressure.

- Paul (8/5): Very good - Awesome location, super friendly and efficient staff
- Madhumitha (6/5): Pleasant -
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Anar (6/5): Pleasant -
- Richard (2/5): Very poor - Nothing about the hotel we liked. The hotel is listed as a 4 Star. It was more like a 1/2 star. Cancelled and moved to another.
- Alyce (8/5): Housekeeping staff commendable - more grab bars in the bathroom
- Jarle (3/5): Poor - Nothing It's was a bad hotel Not smelling good The breakfast was not good at all
- Karina (3/5): I got scabies from that hotel! - Location I got scabies from that hotel!
- Devon-taylor (8/5): Very good -
- Kawee (7/5): Good -
- Treshni (5/5): Passable - We were initially put in rooms that were stinky, facilities were the worst ever and staff were not helpful at all. And when asked for help at reception were told that we made the day shitty for them. Toilets overflowed and were told by reception that it was normal. Cleaning staff just unclogged the toilet and didn't wash the floors and were no help at all.
- Reynoso (8/5): Very good -
- Marty (2/5): - There were multiple items that insured we will never return.
The first item was our treatment be the desk staff. NEVER have I been treated so poorly by the desk staff. I had multiple contacts with the staff that were, (RUDE). MY questions were repeatedly, either ignored of rebuffed. Something as simple as a request for my bill, (I was told I could not get it until the last day at checkout) was almost impossible to get.
The facilities were in poor shape. From leaking pipes to dirty rooms. This should be unacceptable at any hotel.
There are more items, but suffice to say, “don’t spend your money and stay here”.
- Peter (7/5): Good - Good location. Pool is nice and cool although rather small for the number of people trying to swim. Breakfast is great though. Bed was surprisingly comfortable.
Got lucky with rooms opposite to the busy street. That would be an absolute deal breaker in hindsight, as the road side rooms must be so loud with traffic. It is very outdated. This hotels heyday was in the 1960's... and it hasn't changed a bit.
It needs a serious renovation or literally just tear it down and start over. A lot of the staff seem pretty blah about working here. I don't blame them, it's rather rough. I guess it's a good deal still in terms of price? I would say it is fine for your first 2 days in Bangkok while getting over jetlag... but then move on.
- Neil (6/5): Pleasant -
- H. (7/5): Good -
- Kiera (10/5): Exceptional -
- K (7/5): Royal Rattanakosin - 2 nights
experience - Location. It is walkable distance to Grand Palace, Supreme Court, Coin Musuem and the famous Khaosan Road. But away from Khaosan road noise. Staff are not courteous. They do not provide information to tourists. Looks like they are under staffed.
- Martin (5/5): Passable -
- Zafer (1/5): Keep away from this hotel - Nothing at all . There were no blankets , soap , hand / face towel in the room . Breakfast is until 09:30 and they serve breakfast with mica glass and plates with very very limited food option . I suggest to stay somewhere else but here , there are plenty of options .
- Reimann (7/5): Good -
- Linda (8/5): Okay for the money. - Reception staff need training on how to welcome guests, no smile or welcome to our hotel!
Room was okay, I only used it as a base.
Excellent location for Kho san Road and other places of interest.
Enjoyed the pool area in an afternoon.
- Tomas (6/5): Pleasant - Comfortable Location wise, it’s absolute crap.
- Matija (8/5): Very good -
- Courtney (6/5): Hotel needs some work done to it. - Good location, short walk away from all the markets and bars.
Pool was nice
Good value for money
We stayed for 2 days it was a good location to base if not staying in rooms long Hotel is dated, our friends room had a lot of issues with safety with the doors and windows not locking.
Our room was fine, needs a few things fixing like lights the sink was blocked.
Staff didn’t help them and they had to move hotels due to this.
Beds are hard
- Ellie (1/5): We did not stay as the rooms were disgustingly dirty and had bed bugs. Its was awful - We did not stay as the rooms were disgustingly dirty and had bed bugs We did not stay as the rooms were disgustingly dirty and had bed bugs
- Konrad (1/5): Horrible - Location is excellent Outdated, in desparate need of refurbishment, staff morale desparately low, totally unhelpfull.
- Silvina (1/5): Disappointed in so many ways. - Absolutely nothing. This property is a disappointment and it’s a shame that booking.com cannot screen properties before allowing them onto the platform. This hotel is terrible. The beds and pillows are rock hard. It was like sleeping on the floor. When complained the hotel staff say that everyone complains about the beds lol. I saw cockroaches in the hotel cafe so we did not eat there. The staff are rude and understand very little English so they just ignore requests. The showers temperature is lukewarm warm with little pressure. The location is in a part of town that is central but also on the edge of a very poor area and there are many homeless sleeping and loitering on the steps right outside. My family of 6 paid for 4 nights and left after 2 to another hotel. Did not get our money back. I read the reviews before booking and now wonder if they are filtered. We will see lol
- Malcom (6/5): Good location to khaosan Rd. Friendly staff, fair breakfast. Hotel needs renovation. - Good location for those wanting to visit Khao Sarn Rd, staff were very good. Breakfast was included and fair. The hotel is very tired and rooms need to be updated.
- Matt (6/5): - Breakfast was good. Dated.
- Graham (6/5): Would stay again. This is Bangkok! - I've been here twice before. It's inexpensive and well located near Wat Pho, the central temple area and the river. The hotel was built I think in 1947 and had a prestigious 5 star rating in it's day - which not maintained as such gives a charming atmosphere. The buffet-style food is great and plentiful. It needs some investment to be honest. Our large room facing the busy noisy road could have benefited from a double glazed window. We transferred to a cheaper room where we slept very well, however there was a wall 2 metres in front of the window - that was fine since it was just what was required after a 10 hour flight. Our 2 previous visits were fine in this respect.
- Naomi (9/5): Superb - Very spacious rooms. Excellent super fast wifi. Friendly staff. I feel the reviews don't do justice to the hotel. It's a monumental building, big lobby, big rooms. You don't find this anymore in Bangkok. Also a prime location near King's Palace.
- Lynn (5/5): Passable - The bed was comphy. Very dated, & dirty.
- Thomas (6/5): Pleasant -
- Paphada (8/5): Convenience. - Walk to The Grand Palace, Boutique shops, ⛴️, 2-3 blocks The khon San street Charming convenience. For the price no complaints.
- Alex (8/5): Very good - Good location close to khoasan road Bit dated
- Todd (10/5): - Great
- Jesse (6/5): - Pros: historically interesting:1942. Good hot water.
Cons: dirty, rock hard bed, antique furnishings, 20 mins to check in, 20 mins to check out and recover 500 baht deposit.
Summary: I would not stay again.
- Jay (8/5): Long walk to the Grand Palace - The hotel itself is great. It's close to Khao San rd. But it's about a 20 min walk to The Grand Palace and the other surrounding tourist locations. So if you don't mind walking or taking a tuk tuk every time, I'd recommend this location. There are unhoused people around the area but they never bothered me.
- Sarah (9/5): I always stay here very comfortable and near attractions - Room.amazing with city view Nothing
- Jamie (1/5): Bad - Nothing it was awful!!! Moved rooms twice and still room filthy ( pics attached) public hair all around bathroom, bed covered in hair, public hair and stains on mattress bed, toilet in bathroom also leaked ... more mosquitos in the room then in the film a bugs life. Shower was a dribble and unable to wash propley with! Avoid at all costs
- Michal (4/5): Disappointing - Price was low and staff was friendly Very old hotel, furniture worn out, wierd smell on hallways and elevator, noise from the street, a lot of homeless people all around the hotel, lunch at hotel restaurant/canteen was under average (soup in the "cafee" located in hotel lobby was much better).
- Vladimir (5/5): Relatively close to all important sightseeings, value for money, but not quite rooms. - Good location...busy street, but reachable to all important sightseeing places. The lunch offered in the hotel also good value for money and tasty food. No complains on that one. The room was far in worse condition than appeared on photos. There was NO window in the bathroom and I could not sleep for all the time properly as the special birds made enormous noise. When I complained to the reception, they said they did not have the money to put the window in the bathroom. They did try though to offer me another 2 rooms on the 3rd day of stay, but these were even in a more unsuitable condition that the room we had. Offered rooms were either much louder than the one we already had or smaller and darker. So, we did not move at all rather. Staying in this hotel caused me 5 sleepless nights together with my 13 years old daughter. BUT, thanks to the place where this hotel was located, we have seen all important sightseeings around. Which was positive. In total: value for money, but do not look for comfort.
- Werner (6/5): Eye opener - The room upgrade was appreciated. The room and bathroom are actually a good standard. Parking and attendant good and friendly. Giving the approximate to the major attractions, time of the year and low price, there must be a drawback. Indeed, the state of the hotel, the surroundings and especially the front desk staff are the issue. Most unfriendly and careless staff.
- Cwai (9/5): Superb - Location
Price when compare to facilities and service Environment around hotel and its appearance on the outside
- Manuel (8/5): Reception, respond very bad when I asking questions and requests.. - Location only
Bad attitude of the ladies in front desk or reception.. Front desk or reception, very bad attitude ..
- Ana (6/5): Pleasant - Location Looked like an old forgotten state
- Liam (2/5): - Pretty disappointed in the condition in and around the hotel a big homeless population surrounding the building, inconvenient unless you are going to the night market there isn’t much in walking distance, most of the staff are super sweet but some don’t give you the time of day.
- Emily (6/5): - The hotel is walking distance to khaosan road, markets, plenty of places to eat and shop, and the grand palace. Homeless people around the hotel but they don’t bother you. Hotel interior seems a little outdated, and the rooms were basic as expected but decent enough for a cheap stay. However the “beds” felt worse than a park bench, it literally hurt my body to move on it during the night and made my body sore. The hotel isn’t terrible but if I would’ve known that, I might’ve reconsidered.
- Veera (3/5): Poor -
- SAOWAKHON (4/5): - Room is very old fashion. Very noisy from next room made me can’t sleep.
- Andy (8/5): Decent stay at decent price - Big room, comfortable enough. Reception is efficient rather than welcoming but it's a busy place so understandable. breakfast was good. obviously a grand place in days gone by but it's showing it's age now. its a good price for a few nights in Bangkok and a great location for khaosan road and grand palace etc.
- Konstantinos (3/5): Low value for money - The location Old materials low maintenance
- Griffiths (6/5): Pleasant -
- Gayan (6/5): Pleasant -
- Steve (5/5): Passable -
- De (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Only one receptionist to do everything, she is great but it’s too much for her
- Ria (2/5): Very poor -
- Lisa (5/5): Ok for 1 night. Basic cheap accommodation in a good location - Great location, lots within walking distance. Very dated, our room was at the front of the building and the traffic was noisy. Basic facilities. Staff were not overly helpful.
- Deandre (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was great, the location was perfect as it was close to many tourist spots, and considering the price it was definitely worth it.
