Guest Reviews
- Tim (2/5): Very poor - My stay at the hotel was terrible because of the noise from the bingo and live music below our bedroom. I would not recommend this place to anybody.
- Suzanne (2/5): - Food took ages to come out only to be the wrong order for one and the other was burnt.
The entertainment was far too noisy when we were trying to sleep, it was vibrating the bedroom and went on until midnight.
- Mei Fong (2/5): - I’m writing to complain the condition of your hotel rooms and request to have refund for my stay of 1st night on 24th May in the Shakespeare room.
I appreciate your ambition to serve more types of customers by refurbishing the old building to many well-decorated hotel rooms.
However, both rooms we stayed have no sound-proof at all.
We stayed in a room right above the main dining area on Sat, a karaoke night for the weekend.
Once we stepped into the hotel at 11ish, our ears soon started to ache as there were 2 oversized speakers with overwhelming volume in a small dining hall.
We rushed back in our room to escape from the noise but it made no difference.
We asked staff when the party would be finished and they replied at 12am, then we went to shower.
We went to bed and finger-crossed that the music stopped after 12 but diners stayed downstairs kept talking till 1:21 am.
We closed all the windows but the floor and walls are so thin that it seemed they’re chatting at our bedsides.
Your hotel was not properly designed and built for acceptable room service
in addition to negligible sound proof
toilet ceiling was too low, no shower head holder nor shower curtain, we needed to squat/kneel during showering but floor was still all wet
the door lock was not working properly of the room we stayed on 2nd night
Arranging activities without considering other users in respect to negligible sound-proof rooms, the party should have been ended earlier .
- Caroline (6/5): Mixed impression - Hotel has so much potential. Lovely rooms & excellent food. Visit spoilt by social events catering for nearby chalets & mobile homes. So loud impossible to sleep & events going on till midnight or even later. Hotel doesn’t seem to have decided what sort of clientele to cater for but trying to please guests & chalet/mobile home just doesn’t work.
- Steven, Joanne (10/5): - We have stayed in a caravan at Woodlands Hall but this was our first stay in the Hall..
It was lovely! Everything was Five Star.. In particular we’d like to thank Will who was so helpful! He was friendly and helped us sort a spare bed.. 🌟
- Ian (4/5): - we didn't get the room we requested, the shower leaked across the floor, no bath mats were down so we had to use towels to dry it up, the cord on the light in the room snapped and we couldn't turn the light out, so I had to remove the bulb to go to sleep on a night.
the breakfast and main meal was undercooked a little pink inside and egg was really runny.
the only saving grace was the girl who looked after us, she was lovely and friendly and really helpful
- Kimberley (8/5): - Overal a good stay. The whole park is very nice, peacefull, set in beautiful surroundings
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not the best night - Noisy - Unfortunately not a great stay. On arrival parking was between a building site and the bins. Photo of the front of the building is nothing like it is now. Reception staff just looked at us on arrival and waited for me to say we had a booking. No welcome or hello, just what's the name? Given an envelope with keys in and directions to the room. Room looked nice but no towels or bath mat in bathroom, no bin, no toilet brush, no glasses in bathroom, shower glass was really soap marked, an empty toilet roll on the toilet seat and a half used toilet roll on the holder, masking tape still present in the shower. Asked at reception for towels and someone brought them and 2 small toiletries. Unbelievably noisy night, singer in the bar sounded like she was in our room so much so we couldn't hear our tv. When she finished music was playing until late then singing and shouting outside. Hotel bar is for the caravan park users. Wi-Fi was bad, kept dropping out and wasn't secured. Shame really because room looked as if it had recently been refurbished. Bed was comfortable. Extra pillow in wardrobe but didn't use it as it didn't have a pillowcase on it. Bedside lights too high so you have to get out of bed to turn them off. Asked on checkout if everything had been ok and when I said it was noisy she said oh and shrugged.
- Ken (10/5): - Comf0rtable room, Good Breakfast. and entertainment on both evenings. All in all a very satisfying weekend break
- Georgia (6/5): - The room was amazing, the en-suite was beautiful. However the toilets flush needed pressing both 2/3tokes to flush. The WiFi didn’t work in the room or where we ate. First morning we didn’t get a choice for breakfast and they didn’t have any milk to drink. My tea was made for me. Nothing was on offer, you had to ask for everything. Second day they ran out of ketchup. Service was slowish. The second day we ran out of toilet paper and no one knew where it was kept. Not sure they were ready for guests. But beautiful room, bed was super comfy!
- Roy (10/5): Excellent accommodation - Staff very helpful polite and professional. Food excellent. Room fantastic
- Mark (8/5): - Very friendly relaxed atmosphere, welcome and service. Would recommend.
- Paul (8/5): - The bedroom was very clean also the bed was comfy the down side was no gym which was told there was when i booked site needs updating didn't have the right information
- David (8/5): One night stay - Very basic, very clean and staff was welcoming. Nice assortment of tea and biscuits in the room
- Tamsin (6/5): - The hotel restaurant meals were very good however it is a fair way out of town and services
- Gillian (2/5): Disastrous experience - This country hotel is in actuality a clubhouse for a static caravan park, with a building sight outside the main entrance, loud music blasting out and the allocated room looked at a rubbish yard.
It was so bad we chose not to stay and asked for a refund which was not granted by Hotels.com with whom we are in despite as the hotel was not as advertised or as shown in the website photograph.
- James (8/5): - Things we liked were the decorative wood panels everywhere. Some very intricate and interesting pieces. Rooms are all different, so check the pictures. Then check with the hotel that you have the right room, as they're named not numbered. This is because Expedia have the wrong names matched to the rooms, as we found out on arrival!
- Roger (2/5): - Advertised as having a restaurant, but on arrival it was closed so I couldn't stay at the hotel ad it is in the middle of nowhere. I was promised a refund by the receptionist but it never materialised. I messaged the hotel but they did not respond. I think this is dreadful customer service and would advise avoiding the place altogether. 0/5.
- kenneth (8/5): - Isolated and friendly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Rated 9.5 - Hotel was clean, comfortable with friendly, efficient and knowledgable staff.Would recommend to friends and family.
- Matthew (10/5): Full of character - Fabulous location! We stayed in 'Tower' and the room was enormous and full of character.
We only stayed one night as we were attending a wedding reception nearby.
Was only expecting a continental breakfast (alluded to on the Hotels.com website) but were very pleasantly surprised, and grateful, to receive a Full English.
If we are oin the area again, we'd definitely return!
- Daniel (4/5): Underwhelming - The hotel was charming but thats where it ended. Bed was worn out very uncomfortable mattress. Dust and grime on all the walls in and out of the room. Bathroom was worn out, some damaged to shower and tiles etc but shower was nice and powerful. Tv remote didnt work. Bar closed an hour early. Breakfast was continental instead of hot. Bread and muffins used from the day before. Breakfast items not stocked, poor choice of cereals, bread and pastry, no fresh fruit etc. Overall a bit of a let down. Also they told us they hadnt yet been paid and that it was up to us to sort that out. Bar area had toilets which had out of order urinals, broken toilet seat, toilets with no paper.
- Sarah (8/5): - Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The hotel was in a lovely location . The room was spacious but certain aspects of the room were poor. The bathroom had a cut off bit of carpet as a mat and it was stained. The were areas of the walls that were also stained with marks.
- I Ian (6/5): - Some of the junior staff would benefit from a bit of more service training
- B (10/5): Perfect stay in Ruthin - A beautiful hotel in Ruthin. Excellent staff and service. Food is excellent.
- Ian (6/5): - A hotel I would not probably use again…too remote. Very quirky….not very attentive staff….bedroom spacious but bathroom on a different level with hot water not easy to regulate on the bath!
- JE (10/5): Family stay for a wedding - A very relaxing stay and everything was done to make our stay comfortable. Our room was beautiful, very clean and every comfort laid on for us.
- JOHN (2/5): - the hotel had no record of my booking and were only able to offer me a room for one, not two, nights
the room was over the bar and very noisy
food poor
- Lesley (4/5): - Needs a lot of upgrading. Rickety chair, handles on drawers and wardrobe loose and hanging off., windows that wouldn't open/close. Booked family room, 2nd bed was a sofa bed with very thin mattress with gaps between mattress and springs - perfect for getting little fingers and limbs stuck in! We were told 3 days before arriving that kitchen was closed, so no food and no breakfast (which was Inc in price). Bar closed at 8pm. Rather depressing, even for February!
- Lester (10/5): - Lovely location and friendly staff
- Maggie (10/5): - Totally stunning building. Inside it could be a Tudor Mansion.
Great food. Extremely helpful and friendly staff. Amazing view. Located in a particularly pretty part of North Wales.
Would recommend in a heartbeat.
- Julie (8/5): - The hotel and our room were very good and comfortable. We believe we asked for a shower, however the fault could lie with us as we didn't specify that we wanted a walk in shower and not one that was over a bath, which we couldn't use. Apart from that we found the cooked breakfast a little overcooked, but the dining room was very pleasant, clean and comfortable. A little room for improvement but on the whole very good. We loved all the wood carving and traditional decor everywhere.
- Matthew (2/5): Not a hotel! - This is a mobile caravan park club house with rooms above. The live singer and loud music in the bar below the rooms will keep you awake until 10.45p.m. and then drunken people will keep you awake until well gone midnight. Do not stay here if you want peace or to sleep ready for a work trip the next morning.
Food is overpriced, overcooked and poor quality. Both evening plates were missing items. When asked "does this not come with ..." the barman promptly replied "I don't know"! This seemed to be the level of customer service for the whole place.
The room was clean-ish with a nearly clean bathroom.
Breakfasts only from 8 a.m., so not good if working. Again, over-cooked.
When pointing out that the noise kept me awake, the receptionist promptly told me it does show on the website they have entertainment in the bar until late.
Can't see it here on hotels.com website anywhere.
- Jon (2/5): Don't expect a restful stay - The hotel itself is full of character and in a lovely part of the world. However, I'm afraid I have to give it a low rating for a couple of reasons - firstly, on arrival there was no-one manning the reception area. So I had to stand in the bar area, during a pub quiz, and wait for bar staff to get to me and give me a key to my room. When I went to my room, I realised that I'd been given a room directly above the bar area - which on a Friday night hosts a DJ/pub quiz/karaoke.
I'd driven seven hours to get to Ruthin - the whole point of my stay was to get an early start the next morning. But the sheer volume of noise from both the DJ and the guests meant that I couldn't get any sleep until things began to quieten down at around 12:30am. I even tried earplugs, but it was simply too noisy and I could 'feel' the music through the vibrations in the floor.
Knowing that there were no reception staff on duty, I didn't feel I had the option to speak to anyone. I also don't blame the DJ or the guests downstairs - everyone seemed to be having a fun time. My issue is with the hotel making the 'Shakespeare' room available for guests, knowing full well that anyone staying in it would have nowhere near a restful stay (or at least certainly not on a Friday night).
- Paul (4/5): Could be great but.... - Lovely room .but not enough staff.
- rebecca (10/5): Great night stay - Lovely large comfortable room. Lovely surroundings. great staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): 2 night stays - Overall it was a good experience in this old styled hotel. As this is a family owned business (I guess), sometimes I need some time to wait for their staff for checkin, breakfast and etc.
- Simon (10/5): Cracking location, super friendly staff! - Only stayed here overnight and sadly didn't get to explore the location, but the hotel was nice and the staff super friendly & helpful! Both evening meal and breakfast were spot on.
The room itself was perfectly comfortable, although my only complain was that being above the kitchen, I could hear the constant noise of the extractor fans, or whatever it was, through the night. Generally a good stay and would defo go back!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - House is really interesting. Staff very pleasant. All refurbished and staff new to the job so very enthusiastic. Food excellent. What the pictures don’t show us that it’s completely surrounded by mobile homes. Gives the place a bizarre feel as you look out of the windows to what would once have been a lovely garden and is now a mobile home park. But knowing that if I was in the area I may still choose to return.
- Ronnie (8/5): - Staff were very friendly and we were made to feel welcome back
Really enjoyed the continental breakfast
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely meals, well prepared and presented.
Very helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Gorgeous building, quirky rooms and a really nice atmosphere!
- Ian (10/5): - Lovely stay amd froendly staff
- Brian (8/5): Good Location. - A great place to stay except if it is a Sunday night, there is no evening food available and the breakfast does not start until 0800 in the morning. Overall great surroundings and convenient for my work, the barmaid on the Tuesday night could not be more helpful including leaving out a continental breakfast for my 07.15 departure the following day.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely overnight stay - Had a very comfortable overnight stay at Woodlands, we booked here as we were attending a friends party nearby. Friendly welcome on arrival, family room was spacious, clean and very comfortable bed. Bar area very welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast was lovely, cereal, pastries, toast and full cooked breakfast. Would definitely stay again.
- Sarah (8/5): Lovely old hotel, nice room but poor mattress - Arrived on a cold wet evening and was pleased to find hotel warm and welcoming. Was shown to room which was a nice touch. Lovely cosy room (wagner) but had to be wary with two steps up to en suite. Nice toiletries supplied but lacked a shelf in the shower and mould needed cleaning.
Nice quality furnishings but was dissapointed with mattress, one of the worst nights sleep we have had.
Breakfast was excellent and the staff member was lovely making it a very pleasant experience.
Overall would reccomend and would return but would be hesitant over mattress as was much too soft for us.
- Robin (10/5): Amazing Place. - I phoned to say I may arrive late and I was a bit worried when I was asked if I was in the hotel or a caravan as I didn't know it was a caravan park as well.
I walked in the door and stopped, my mouth open. the wood panels were amazing carved works of art and they were everywhere in the old part of the hall.
The room (Shakespeare) had lots of room and large windows. The water is hot and the bath is a decent size. two small quibbles, the over bath shower is low and their is no shower curtain.
The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The food is well cooked and presented with a happy size portion that is enough, but not too much.
I had two nights there and I will certainly go again.
- Deborah (6/5): convenient hotel - The building is great and the staff very friendly, the bath room could do with updating but value of stay ok
- SallyB (10/5): Very good hotel in beautiful surroundings - I arrived late on a Sunday evening and even though they were at the end of food service, they happily prepared me a light meal. I was travelling alone but felt prefectly comfortable having my meal and a drink in the bar area. I had a good night's sleep in crisp white cotton sheets in a quiet room.
The view from my room was quite spectacular.
I was expecting only continental breakfast but full english was on offer. The very presonable waitress warns you that it is freshly prepared and so there would be a little wait. It arrived without any undue delay and it was absolutely first class.
My single issue was that there was no shower attachment in the bath and so washing my hair was a bit of a problem. Overall it was superb and I wouldn't hesitate to return.
- BARRY (10/5): - WE WERE IN THE AREA TO VISIT MY FAMILY, THE HOTEL WAS PERFECT FOR WHAT WE NEEDED, AND WILL STAY HERE AGAIN
- Verified traveler (8/5): nice, clean and friendly - Stayed for a wedding locally.
- Lillian (10/5): Highly recommended! - We had a lovely stay at the hotel. Our room was located in the Tower which had its own private staircase. The room decor was lovely with oak panelling & lovely gothic windows. The views were beautiful. Our bed was very comfortable & spacious. Breakfast & Evening meal were excellent. The staff were so attentive & friendly & really looked after you. We would highly recommend the hotel & wished we were staying more than one night!
- Neil (10/5): What a find! - We loved everything about this small, but perfectly formed, hotel. Highly recommended !
- Peter (6/5): - Ok
- Teresa (10/5): Amazing place well worth the money - We had an excellent stay and would go back hotel, and food were amazing I would definetly recommend the hotel
- Glen (10/5): Would stay here again! - Although we only stayed here for one night, the stay was great. Good size, newer rooms with very comfortable beds. Breakfast was excellent! Loved the homemade scones.
- paul (8/5): Stay in the country - Hotel is an old country estate house of sorts, lots of dark wood panelling and wood carvings on the inside and overall very pleasant. Note, the owner has branched out and now runs a holiday home complex just outside the hotel which has spoiled the grounds somewhat. Our room was exceptional, very stately and newly decorated/furnished, bathroom was also new but had a low ceiling which was painful at times and caused difficulty showering. Room was directly above the bar so not the room if you want an early night, fine for us as we were propping up the bar most of the night ;)
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not the best stay I've had. - Arrived early evening. Room was very cold. Later discovered hairs on bedsheets, pillows and in the bath. Obviously, had not been cleaned since last guest left.....
Bed mattress was very soft.
Manager /Owner did try to accommodate me in another 'warmer' room but not much better so decided to stay put.
Also very difficult to find hotel especially when arriving at night.
Not the best of stays and I stay in around 10 hotel rooms per month.
- Desmond (8/5): Nice place, nice people. - Out of the way and a long way from the main drag, this holiday park hotel is actually very comfortable and good value for money.
I would use this location again if it were closer to my client, well worth a try.
- paul (10/5): fantastic break - It has been the best place that we have stayed in, and value for money will definitely be staying again in the near future,as long as we can get booked in,as this place was very convenient for us to visit the parents only 10 mins down the road
- Oliver (10/5): Great one night stay in the country - One night stay in what was a very nice B&B. In a slightly secluded area with very pretty views all around, but limited to the hotel restaurant if looking for food nearby. All staff were very friendly, breakfast tasty and the room was very comfortable. The bed mattress was a little soft, but otherwise very comfortable
