Guest Reviews
- Trung Vi (2/5): - The property was too old and the room are so dirty a lots of ants and mosquito bite my legs and arms. And the bathroom was leaking water and the drainers doesn’t work well. Only the best things the location.
- Connie (8/5): - Hope the property owner will improve the bathrooms
- Vi minh (6/5): - Location
- Billianson (6/5): - It’s ok for the price
- Thant (2/5): - Renovation when customers are here
- Thant (2/5): - They were renovating even when customers are resting need to shut the hotel and renovate
- Vinh (8/5): - It's OK not too bad .
- Oanh (2/5): - This hotel neeed to upgrade everything is old and dirty customers service very dru the room has visible sound at night scare my family no one sleeps that night I complain to customer service they did not care I feel bad to stay at this Hotel
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Do not look the same from the Picture !!!
No maintenance that it need to be done !!!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Terrible, inadequate lighting, poor fresh air circulation. Bad, bad, extremely bad!
- Verified traveler (6/5): 2 stars - It is ok for the price I paid...! The water flows were so weak in the shower and there is no hot water available in the washing sink due to the way it was built per the maintenance person.
- rukus (8/5): Pleasant stay - The room is nice, room cleaning service every day, kinda noisy with single pane windows, you can hear honking motorbikes Into the early morning and there is a hospital very close by with emergency siren vehicles driving by very often all night long. Some of the front desk people speak a little English, some none at all. We arrived at 9:30am and was pleasantly surprised that they let us check in. Lots of eating places around but not much else’s to do within walking distance, we did walk to the 1000 Buddha temple that was around 2 or 3 km. Kind of strange, they have parked cars in the lobby and motorbikes drive right through to get to a parking lot.
Only gripe was a room service experience, we called down and a man answered, tried to order and he said “don’t speak English” so I went to the front desk and pointed on the menu to what I wanted, food came up and nothing was correct! Little to say that I was pretty upset but what can I do?
- Arthur (6/5): Only if your desperate - No one can speak english.BIG downfall. Plus more interested in serving Chinese instead of other paying guests
- chad (10/5): - Friendly. Nice. Always stay here due to its location. Cheap and always quick to help when I need something. Taxi, laundry, room clean
- maverickgirl (4/5): Basic hotel; decent value - This is an older hotel with very basic amenities. The bathroom has the shower/toilet combo where everything gets wet when you take a shower. Got single room for $15USD per person, though you can find it for $13 online. Does not have good dining options nearby. Only stayed here because friends were staying here, but I would stay elsewhere if I were to return to Saigon.
Decent value for what you get. You’d pay more if staying elsewhere for better lodging.
- thomaslF3977TM (8/5): Old-fashion but clean and reliable hotel in Cholon - The outdated look and feel (think 1990s hotels in Asia) had us brace for the worse, however we turned out to be pleasantly surprised. Yes, the hotel room is basic and old-fashioned, but there is a lift, the room is clean (bathroom included), mattress is comfortable, and the street noise in room 207 & 208 was very faint - to us that was the most important. Staff speaks Vietnamese, Cantonese and some English too, and helped us in our queries. Wifi works well both in lobby and rooms. There does not seem to be a breakfast option, but standard food can be ordered in the room at reasonable prices (we didn't try). The hotel is within walking distance of Thien Hau temple and 10-15min walk from Binh Tay market (closed for renovations between Nov.16 and Nov 17, maybe longer) and St Xavier church. Whilst there are better hotels in other districts of HCMC, Trung Mai is a no-frills, reliable and convenient base to explore Cholon, definitely worth considering for that area!
- Thomas (8/5): Decent hotel in Cholon - Whilst there are better hotels in other parts of HCMC, Trung Mai is a decent place to stay, where staff speaks Cantonese and some English, besides Vietnamese. The room reminds me of 1990s hotels in Asia, basic and not modern, but clean, with decent bedding and quiet from street noise, which to us was the most important. There does not seem to be a breakfast option, but standard food can be ordered in the room at reasonable prices. Within walking distance of Thien Hau temple and 10-15min walk from Binh Tay market (closed for renovations between Nov.16 and Nov
17) and St Xavier church, it is also a convenient base to explore Cholon area. We would consider staying back for the overall convenience but keeping in mind the outdated look and feel.
- Chad (8/5): - Good acommadation for the price. Lots of stores in walking distance.
- paul,UK (6/5): Budget hotel, very kind staff - Very kind and helpful staff, basic room,on opposite side of town from major tourist attractions about 1 hour walk
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Terrible and rude staff. Had a very terrible experience while checking in. The room is not very dirty however the bed is rather uncomfortable. There better hotel in the immediate area.
- Harry (4/5): Hotel locate in the heart of the Cholon - The room is too small, equipment is too old and dirty, air conditioning is noise.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Decent Hotel In Good Location. - If you just need a good place to stay for few days with clean beds and friendly staffs for reasonable prices, Trung Mai will not disappoint you.
- Abhay (6/5): Stay in Saigon - This place is located in the suburbs and the staff do not speak English
I hotel is clean and tidy but a good 30 mins from city centre
I would suggest to book a room in district 1 so that you save a lot on transportation
- margar3th (6/5): The room is good for 1 night only - The room is cozy, wifi is fast, but since my room 301 is on the road side, early morning was very very noisy. So please choose the room in the quieter side.Good for only 1 night. Nearby hotel got mini-mart and on the alley, there is a very nice wanton noodle
- tncl (8/5): Smiling Reception, Helpful Security, Kind Housekeeping and Good deal to stay - Simple English & Chinese speaking Reception & Security. The room are big and clean everyday before 11am by the housekeeping. Air-Con/Wifi no problem. Good food around like chicken rice, steak, thai, pizza, bakery and more...Few minutes of walking to the 2 wet markets. Friendy 24hr convenience store just steps away.
During weekday heavy motorcycle traffic and noise pollution. Crossing the road & street need to be extremely careful cos motorcycle can travel any direction and don't rely on traffic light cos doesn't work on most of the motorists. Maybe their culture...
- xlne (8/5): Polite staff in a quiet hotel - My friend and I stayed at this budget hotel in Cholon, the Chinatown of Ho Chi Minh. It is situated in a quiet area some distance away from hotspots like the backpackers zone, so transport costs to pretty much everywhere might add up.
We actually decided to book online in the hotel lobby because booking online turns out to be cheaper than walk-in prices. The staff in the reception doesn’t mind and gave us our room right after we showed them the confirmation email. Our room was big, albeit abit old. Basic amenities like hot water and wifi are available and everything seems to be working. The reception staff can't speak much English, but Google Translate saves the day.
We returned to the hotel at about 11pm once and found the gates locked. Thus, we had to wake the night guard up from what looks like a deep sleep. Jolted awake so suddenly, he is nevertheless wide eyed and polite while opening the gate for us.
- RyanE2012 (10/5): Clean, friendly - Stayed for three weeks while working at the nearby hospital. Just as clean and comfortable as a nearby much more expensive hotel we originally stayed. It is basic, but if you don't need fancy amenities, it's fine. The folks are very friendly, helped me track down some shopping items I couldn't find on my own, and watched my bags while I went away for the weekend. They even humored my daily attempts to learn Vietnamese. A/C and internet work just fine.
- ElindaTang (6/5): Decent for price - Troung Mai hotel is nicely situated between many shops yet on a quiet strip so the traffic isn't too loud at night. The hotel rooms are what you expect for the price that you pay ($30 per night, room sleeps 3). It is very average and will suit someone who doesn't need anything fancy or is on a budget.
Front reception staff were good and the cleaning lady for the rooms was extremely kind and helpful. There are a few things that could have made the stay in the rooms more comfortable and they are listed below:
- front door automatically locks and it is frustrating when we had booked 3 rooms and had kids running in and out.
- bathroom door has a broken lock
- wifi does not work well and we had many issues with it
- lamp in the room is also broken
- biankanr1 (6/5): Basic but clean - The room was quit basic, but for a night or 2 this hotel is good. Bed was hard, but the room was clean. Little noisy at night, because the room was next to the road. The honking cars and scooters begin already at 5:00 in the morning. With earplugs its alright. Friendly staff, yet limited English.
