Guest Reviews
- Sharon (8/5): - Parking too tight
- Bernie (1/5): If you like a full on bass booming sound the cafe disco night will please you! The cafe is part of the hotel although st - Only the location, that’s it! The hotel is shabby and not that clean! The bathroom door had blood on it which I washed off myself! The whole place needs a real full on paint job!
The shower tap was so stuck it was difficult to get a good temperature and flow!
- Skelton semeri (5/5): Comfortable and quick - location, staff,I liked that there was a bar on site but for someone wanting quite it would be hard.
Pricing was great and 20 extra for parking mirror - none in room so had to pull straightners around to bathroom as there was no plugs.
Lights - missing lightbulbs so poor lighting.
Glass shelf over sink made washing face and doing teeth hard. odd place to put a shelf
- James (1/5): Very unpleasant. - Awful smell in room and a lot of stains on the carpet.
- Shanahan (1/5): -
- Alison (3/5): Not good - Location Expensive
Not worth the money
Like staying in a dorm room
- Arvin (6/5): -
- Glenn28 (6/5): -
- Robert (1/5): -
- Shelley (3/5): Great location. - Location is great. Parking was very tight.
Smelt damp and there was no staff around. All self service. Room was dated. No complimentary milk for hot drinks.
- McQuade-Walls (4/5): - The bed was free of bed bugs, and the sheets and towels were clean.
The location was close to where I needed to go, and the food on Parnell street was vast.
Despite hearing other guests, it was quiet and people kept to themselves.
I felt safe despite the reputation of the area and reviews of the location. The over all cleanliness of the location. The shower screen was broken, the door didnt close, so water splashed the walls. Clear signs of water and mold damage on the walls.
The chair in the desk area was filthy, stained with burn marks from cigarettes.
There were foot prints/boot marks on the furniture.
The fire alarm was removed from above the room door.
The room lock was not secure, but I had nothing of value on me.
The over all vibe was boarding house or affordable crisis housing for the homeless (no shame in that, my dad lived in a boarding house when I was a kid, and I work in Mental health care). This may be very confronting for other guests.
I wouldn't want to spend a long time staying here, for health concerns.
- Nathan (1/5): STAY ELSEWHERE - When we left. Absolute worst place I have ever stayed, we ended up leaving after midnight and drove 3 hours home. The door had been previously broken into as per the damage poorly repaired. The floors were disgusting, blue sticky stuff on the toilet floor, hair! Wires hanging out of the wall, stickers on power points saying not to use, the TV also did not work? it was not clean at all. Anyone from the bar out front could gain access to use toilets, was not safe at all and was very noisy, could hear the people next door coughing! Bugger that.
- Paul (1/5): Cockroaches in the bed and staff none existent - Nothing Cockroaches
- mike (8/5): - Location, friendly staff and very clean 👌 N/A
- Craig (7/5): Cheap nights accommodation close to Synthony gig -

- Annabel (7/5): Really convenient - Access to link bus Very tired.
Shower drain blocked.
- van der boom (5/5): Cheap and cheerful - Location handy to Uni
- Connor (1/5): -
- Nic (2/5): disappointing - location general cleanliness
- Janine (9/5): -
- Nur Aqasyah Binti (5/5): Overall, does not meet a hotel standard but more like a backpacker - Toilet tissue is 3ply. The bedsheet is very clean which is great. Toilet floor looks old and unclean I would use a slipper if possible. Building is old. Iron board looks worn out. 3 lamp in the room but only one is working. No mirror in the room, only toilet mirror. Same with dustbin. Quite a small room. Wardrobe looks uninviting. Not something I would expect at a hotel but looks more like an old backpacker. Shared kitchen looks uninviting too.
- Shivani (1/5): - No air conditioning, the bed was uncomfortable, the TV in the next room was on the entire night, the shower did not drain, parking was small, and the shower dripped the entire night.
We checked out after the 1st night and found another accommodation.
- Terrie (7/5): -
- Eathan (5/5): -
- Debbie (2/5): Would not recommend. Felt like a Loafer's Lodge waiting to happen - Location was great, but that was about all. Bed linen and towels were clean There was no smoke alarm in the room. It was hard to get hold of a staff member. The shower was a 2/10. The place felt run down. There was noise from the bar until quite late. We had to pay extra for parking.
- JaimeT780 (6/5): -
- Sybil (5/5): Was average and too many stairs. Lots of ants around. No - Location Not that easy to access the building. Not connected to Freeview TV.
- Suketu (2/5): - Bed sheets and towels only No dust bin, no air-conditioning, no tea, no one present when needed. Executive Suite ha ha ha - It is a joke. Never ever had such a place in our whole life. Shame, they say 3 stars, doesn't deserve even 1 star. Very disappointing.
- Peter (5/5): - Excellent location Never saw a staff member.
- Aishling (1/5): NOT CLEAN! DO NOT STAY! - The location is good and that's the only 'thing I like'. Long story short please read the other reviews! This place is ridiculously unclean and gross. There were ants in the room... Only the bedsheets were clean actually... It's hard to put into words and into photos but trust me, old and gross and never cleaned since it opened like... We cancelled and left as soon as we walked into the room. We did not stay there and neither should you.
- justine (9/5): -
- Cindi (1/5): Terrible place, terrible attitude for staff - We got placed in a room that was full of mold and a room(not usable) that made the whole room stink. Was unable to breathe.
- Indy (7/5): Met my expectations - Was up in Auckland for a concert at The Domain so I enjoyed how close this accommodation was No spoons provided to stir my morning coffee
- Ndue (10/5): -
- Justine (1/5): Unsanitary and unsa - The location Absolutely disgustingly dirty. We were appalled. The place needs a health inspector in. There's no one ever at reception you have to phone someone. Thankfully the sheets were clean and towels but the rest was vile. I would never stay there again and if I could mark it zero stars I would. We had to shower with our jandals on. Appalling service and appalling standard of cleanliness. The location is very good but that has nothing to do with the health hazard hotel. Overpriced and filthy. Be sure to zoom in on the photos to get the full experience.
- Rodney (1/5): Horrible - Great location No security, no smoke alarms, hopelessly over described, damaged electrics, dirty, no effective reception, should be closed down
- Tania (1/5): Wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. - Nothing good about this motel Lighting was absolutely awful. The whole place was rundown, shabby & fit only for a brothel.
- Stewart (7/5): Great location - Good value for money Bed
- stevebeckham (1/5): Would never stay here again - Location Room was damp and smelled mouldy , ceiling had a massive hole from previous water leak and carpet was damp and had mould on it no cutlery in room
- Glenn28 (7/5): - Great price and awesome location Quite basic
- Clare (3/5): Reasonably priced but grotty and not secure - Good location Poor security - all doors to outside fire escapes etc open all night for people to wander in and out. When I tried to close a door it turned out this was not possible (latch was broken). No staff to be seen at any point. Generally a bit grotty.
- MARCIA (8/5): - Good location with nice cafes and restaurants nearby. Confortable bed. Sink could be bigger.
- Virginia (2/5): Actually deserve my money back for this room, was unsatisfactory for the state of cleanliness especially when I was head - Good central location There went any utensils, no spoon to stir your coffee with. Bathroom showe was absolutely disgusting sorry to say, I had knocked the cover on the shower outlet and there was a huge amount of black mould and hair as it it hadn’t been cleaned for months.. totally unacceptable and unhealthy. The clean white face cloths were sitting in a extreme rust holder in the wall.
Room wax extremely suffocating hot even with the provided fan. WAs definitely way over priced for the condition it was in. Was extremely disappointed as it was a big decision and outlay…
- Wiremu (6/5): You pay for what you get - Location price parking Lack of security the front door was secured you needed a pass code to get through.
But the backfire escape doors were unlocked and and open plus $20 a day for parking.
- Roshan (6/5): - Room was fairly clean and smells bad. Floor was not vacuumed properly; won’t recommend to stay although price was decent. Location
- neil (8/5): Good location 30 minutes walk to central Auckland. - Very good location No significant problems. This is clearly not a luxury hotel but it is in a great location with parking at a low cost
- Stewart (7/5): Good value - Good value for money and convenient lication Lack of reception
- William (5/5): Good value for what I paid but need a better check in system. - Good value for money The place was locked up when I arrived and there was no code given to open the door or get the key. Ended up having to ring them to ask how I got into the motel and they sent someone to open the door and let me in.
- Wayne (4/5): Great location but that is all it has going for it - Location is great and it was reasonably quiet but that is about all it has going for it Small ,no aircon only a fan for cooling. There was no utensils to even make a coffee or tea. rooms had not been cleaned very well. Hallway smelt musty.
- Sally (6/5): -
- Eureka (7/5): Cozy, comfy - I loved the location. It's within walking distance from all shops, bars and close to Spark. Could have been cleaner. Very small car parks.
- Sheree (5/5): -
- Anthony (1/5): Don't waste your time here. - Location was good if we had stayed. Starting from the entrance. There was no receptionist and the security doors were open to the public for airflow including the back emergency escape.
We had to call the receptionist on our phone (goodluck if you hadn't organised a sim...) which then told us to get a key from a lockbox.
Room 5 (my room) had been previously broken into and since been fixed... Sort of, looked like a good push could've opened the door.
Once inside, the room was dusty and grimy with everything needing a solid clean. I'd let most of that slide for the price... But the room was very cold and we only had a basic oil heater to heat the room which was very dusty.
Lastly the bedsheets were old and although they had been clean still had a lot of old stains on them so they did not appear clean.
Half the lights didn't even seem to work...
- andrew (8/5): - The location
- Rosey (8/5): - Good location for price No private parking and no remote in room for tv
- pablo (3/5): Good location and ok clean, very tight for parking was at extra cost, very poor customer care - Location No staff
When was someone was on pijamas serving in the afternoon serving clients
- Tom (7/5): -
- Eathan (3/5): -
- Makere (5/5): - the location was good and the rooms were fine for what we needed The rooms were very hot even with the fan on. not alot of room to move about in
- amily (6/5): Good if you are just looking for a affordable place near the central areas, not if you prefer a comfortable and clean pl - The location is great - close to CBD and New Market within 30 minute walking distance for both. Also on the main street of Parnell with all the restaurants and cafes. Water barely came out of the shower so it took ages for a shower. Not very clean either and the mattress was way too soft. The parking was difficult when there were other cars parked, especially big cars, but manageable if your car isn’t too big - make sure to reserve in advance though for ten dollars a night.
- Diana (6/5): - Locatie van de accommodatie is goed. In omgeving genoeg eetgelegenheden.
- Caro Andrieux (7/5): Great location but could be better presented - Great location right by cafes and restaurants.
We booked this place while attending the ASB classic and it was definitely practical with a 15-20 min walk to the venue.
The room had a TV, fan etc... and the water pressure of the shower was good. The room itself was not flashy. Outdated and not well presented. A few lights were not working properly either.
- David (2/5): The stay was a complete waste of money and I honestly would like a refund. The hotel felt third worl - The location is great. Right in the heart of the city, and easy to get to and from anywhere in the CBD Everything else. When we arrived I rang the phone number and got a guy who carried on talking to a women in the background. They just kept on talking it was so rude.
Then a lady came to reception and was pretty accomodating. Then after she’d given me the keys she told me there was $10 to pay for parking. And then after parking she told me there was an extra $50 for the night for our dog.
Then when we got to the rooms we found them stinking hot, with windows that didn’t open properly and latches falling off.
We went out and came back and were both woken up about 2:30pm in the morning by an extremely noisy water system which went on for about half an hour, and then people walking up and down the corridor knocking on doors. And the walls and floor was so thin you could hear everything, including some sort of buzzing machine at about 3 or 3:30 which again went on for about half an hour. In short, despite getting to bed at around 11pm and being very tired from a long drive neither of us slept past 2:30am and neither of us could get back to sleep.
To compound things I just before going to bed I rubbed my leg against the side of the bed and it caught on something very sharp and my calf/ shin got a big gouge out of it that O couldn’t stop bleeding until I applied pressure for quite a while.
- Bryan (7/5): 7/10 - the location the legs of the bed came off as soon as we sat down on it, there were no usb outlets to charge phones, too much outside noise after 2am and people making noises outside the rooms
- Rewa (4/5): 4/5 out of 10 - The bed was comfy. Fridge was cold. Cheap stay for 1 night. Close to some shops about 13min drive to the city The room was really hot and there was no airflow, we did have a fan but it just pushed hot air around. The neighbour's had no spouting so all we heard was pouring water on the fence all night. No kitchen/laundry facilities.
- Manu (7/5): -
- Bright (4/5): - Poor parking space, dirty curtains, people smoking dug around, coffee but no spoons, dirty kettle noise in the passage during the night, dirty drying towels Nothing
- Lynley (1/5): A Property to Avoid, b - The location was reasonable being in Parnell close to the CBD. Parking very awkward. Building very run down, threadbare carpet, door on room 5 had been broken into, very basic rooms.
Security looked very poor which made us determined to find alternative accommodation of a much higher standard, andcwe did this,
at a similar price.
- Paul (4/5): -
- Etham (7/5): Reasonable experience for a very reasonable price. Would stay again - I loved how it’s proximity to The Strand Train Station. I also really appreciated the staffs flexibility in accommodating my very late check in - I had a late flight which was further delayed. Staff were still accessible and helped me check in, which after a very long day of travelling, was a very welcoming sentiment. Thank you again. I didn’t explicitly dislike anything. It was a convenient location at a very reasonable rate.
- Benjamin (5/5): - Good price for the location. No air conditioning. Noisy location (rooms not very sound-proof). Wind blowing the untrimmed trees/bushes against the windows makes a lot of noise at night!
- Tony (7/5): All said and done, the room was clean and tidy, if a little worn. I had a great sleep. - Clean and tidy. Good value for money. Reception was clumsy. I could have been given a code by email and picked up a key from a lock box. I waited several minutes for the manager to attend my arrival.
- Andrew (10/5): - We've stayed before, and we will stay again! Great bed, great shower, facilities to make a cuppa, it has all we need at a very good price.
- Rowan (3/5): Could not wait too leave - Very old, outdated decor, and walls marked. Limited linen, jug provided, no spoons. Bathroom very small and outdated. The from, the bathroom. Needs refurbished
- kaleb (6/5): -
- richard (5/5): - Good value for money, and location. With the exception below it was good Someone using a key to come into our room at 2am
- Haramain Travel & Tours (2/5): - Location Would not recommend unless you are absolutely desperate and there is no other option
- Sam (1/5): - Nothing really The place smelt disgusting, hardly got any sleep as the people next to us wouldn't shut up, we're still noisey at 6.30 in the morning when we left...rang management and they did nothing, will never stay again...
- Tim (9/5): -
- Ej (1/5): Keep away! - Great location. Front desk staff is very helpful and friendly. The bed was comfortable and clean. The room was disgusting. Damp, dirty very run down. Stains all over the carpet. No aircon, TV worked, but remote didn't, so I couldn't work it. Paper thin walls we did not feel safe there at all. Would've left I somewhere else to go, but everywhere in our budget was sold out.
- Cody (1/5): Vile disgusting halfway house - You have been warned! - Nothing. I honestly thought we couldn’t go wrong with accommodation in Parnell, but this stay proved otherwise. The photos are completely misleading - the property is an actual halfway house. The environment was rough, with several unsettling long-term guests, and we were even approached and offered drugs upon arrival.
To make matters worse, we were kept awake all night by booming bass every hour on the hour, loud enough to shake the entire building. We phoned the "reception" who did absolutely nothing except snore on the other end of the phone. Overall, it was an extremely uncomfortable and disappointing experience, and I would not recommend staying here.
- Tania (4/5): You get what you pay for I assumed booking. com had a standard apparently not - Location to Spark Arena Fridge was filthy and microwave needed to be wiped
There was a towel underneath the freezer it must leak
Time for a new fridge
- Heather (1/5): -
- Derek (3/5): Suited our purposes for a one night stay close to Spark Arena, but premises left a lot to be desired - Linen, towels & shower were clean. Staff obliged by providing a Toaster & plates, which we appreciated. Premises were grotty with rubbish out the back & entrance not swept nor glass doors at the entrance cleaned. It looked more like a Hostel than a Motel or Hotel. Very disappointing.
- Bernard (3/5): - Great location Dated. Needs a good renovation. No air conditioning. Smells. Harsh bathroom lighting.
- Jacqueline (5/5): Parnell Pines - It was clean, resident was nice, staff member was ok. Got more info from resident. Close to our venue. Handy to most food amenities. No comment
- Rosie (1/5): Would not recommend - Good location and cheaper than some hotels in the area. You had to call at reception to be let in. Confusing instructions. There was a busy shisha place there so super weird place to wait. Then the door lock didn’t work, only a chain lock which meant the door could still be opened. Way below par and what is expected- did not feel safe at all.
- Bernadette (1/5): Appalling place to stay - The location was good but that's all! This Hotel is a disgrace! No reception, just a mobile number to call for checking in. The woman was quite rude and abrupt. There was extremely loud music that went all through both nights and when owner was notified was not interested and did nothing.
The room was very tired and not clean.
The worst experience and a disgrace to New Zealand.
- Ruthven (1/5): Don't stay there its a nightmare - this is not 3 star! - Nothing its a dump No staff on site despite reception advertised as open during normal working hours - had to ring up to get entry at 4.40pm in the afternoon
Did not feel safe - a domestic dispute with some residential guests in the middle of the night drew a dozen police on site. Consistent noise in the building at night, people running in an out of the building and cars in and out all meant a sleepless and worrying night.
Building while the front door was secured - all other entry/exit doors at the rear of building were open all night - anyone could enter.
Standard of building and cleanliness is appalling albeit the room was reasonably clean
- Akers (8/5): Great value and location - Great location and price. Had a comfortable bed and quiet sleep!
- andrew (7/5): -
- Sara (5/5): -
- Py (1/5): -
- Michael (10/5): -
- Robyn (4/5): - Location Very basic
- Adrienne (10/5): - Our family had a wonderful stay at Parnell Pines. Great location, and the owner was so lovely and accomodating. Highly recommend
