Guest Reviews
- Samuel (8/5): - It’s a rare neighbourhood gem in terms of a very traditional part of Hong Kong Island, nested right inside an active daily market. There’s nothing more authentically Hong Kong than this kind of neighborhood. Transportation is great. I like it and some people who appreciate the same will do too.
- Mei Kuen (4/5): - We select non-smoking room but the room is filled with smoking smell and the table is still have cigarette ashes. Secondly, the hotel has no soap and shampoo provided.
- Yan (2/5): - BEWARE. The room wasn’t anything like what was shown in photos from the hotel. As you can see in the photos, it looked fairly clean at first sight but when we started to settle in, we quickly realized how nasty the room was. We also saw cockroaches while using the bathroom soon after and the blankets/sheets had a musty weird smell. When we told them the following morning about the issues and asked for a refund of the remaining stays bc we wanted to move out, they stated they don’t give refunds under any circumstance and would just keep switching rooms for us if we continue to find cockroaches. We still move out after bc no one in my family of four was able to sleep that first night. My husband also woke up with what kind of looks like bedbug bites on his arm.
We recommend staying away. The ironic thing is this place was more expensive than the hotel we moved to and we chose this place over the other initially bc the pictures showed them as a cleaner place. However, the hotel we moved to ended up being much cleaner with great service too.
- Rangel (2/5): - Honestly is not worthy, I recommend you look for another place
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I really like the this Hotel because it very accessible and very convenient. although room service does not clean everyday but the room is ok and very comfortable to stay with. the room service lady is also very friendly and the front desk staff are also very accommodating. The hotel rate is cheap and very affordable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent Staff!!! - This hotel was great because the staff was really good! Arrived late at night and the staff (Raymond) was very helpful with a multitude of issues I had. Great Staff!!!
- David (4/5): - The absolute worst beds i have ever slept on. Basically a stone slab. Extra charges apply if you want fresh towels at any point. Towels provided have holes in them. Staff is friendly but services very limited. Not even bar soap is provided. Area is decent and well connected with the rest of HK island by nearby metro station. Market outside would be loud if staying on a lower floor
- kevin (4/5): - Bed was hard, hotel didn’t provide shampoo or soap had to purchase from front desk, no laundry or airport service although stated in website. Would not give clean towels unless you stay for more than 3 days.
- CATHERINE (8/5): Good location with all transport nearby. - Good location with local market surrounding it. Supermarkets, eateries, dessert shops all outside. Although theres the butcher next to hotel, the smell doesnt get into the hotel. Masking will be great. MTR and transport is all close proximity. Hotel doesnt provide much amentities, except for the coffee and tea. Otherwise, a good location and decent room to rest.
- Sin Ying (2/5): Terrible stay - Terrible experience
Cockroach in yhe room. Dirtiest room I've ever stayed.
A small top of the nail stick out on the ffloor in the middle of hall way. I stepped on it a few times....
Hot water very unstable.
Air con isnt cool enough.
Internet broken a few times in a day. Did a speed test and it's 3Mb download speed....
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The walls are moldy. The wallpaper is sticking up.
At night there is sometimes a low persistent ringing in the room that stops after a while.
The rooms don't even have drinking water available
- Patrick (4/5): - Front desk was friendly and quick response to my request.
- Derick kin hung (2/5): - Don't stay at this hotel please
- Mitchelle (10/5): - Recommendable for a long stay. The room is spacious enough for travelers with a few baggage.
- Kai Fung (10/5): - Super convenient! Can get everything within steps. Recommend to all age travelers.
Staff friendly enough.
- ANANDAMURTHY (2/5): - The lobby is smelly and some staff can hardly converse in English, the room is supposed to be executive status but it is bad in appearance. The house cleaning is 3 days once which is absurd.
- Fion (2/5): Please avoid ! - The staffs were NOT helpful, the room was mouldy and cold ! When I realised the room were missing tv remote control , the staff just ask me to tune on and off manually. I was planning to stay 8 days ! Can you imagine? I’m glad Expedia team were there to assist me! I have to said , Hotels.com’s team just disappointed me more than ever !
- Angel (2/5): Deceptive Hotel Rating - We were under the impression based on your rating that this hotel is at least a 3 Star. In reality, it is unkept, dirty ambiance, unclean toilet, its location is terrible, no closet at all ... just open 3 hangers. We did not stay even a night although we paid fully already! Can we have a refund because we did not avail any of this hotel's services.
- Sze Yuen Vivian (2/5): - The room is very bare minimum and nothing like in the photos. No cardless machine transactions.
Would not recommend stay.
- robert (8/5): - Not fancy and a bit worn about the edges, but comfortable enough. Also very convenient with trams, subway and buses to get about.
The area gives an "Old Hong Kong" vibe, with wet markets, little shops and restaurants, and local residential towers.
So if you want to experience HK, a decent deal at a reasonable price for HK
- Nakarin (6/5): - Deposit amount is too high (1500 HKD), facility is acceptable but it's not quite good condition. Surround area are fresh market.
- Tanachote (8/5): - Good place to stay. 2 Blocks from MTR and about 30 minutes to downtown. Hotel is around by fresh market so always smell the flesh around the hotel.
- ROBERT (8/5): - The hotel itself is clean and quiet. The rate is also reasonable. Just a bit of unpleasant smell outside the hotel but it's understandable it being located in public market.
- Darren (2/5): - Mold was everywhere. Not clean. Smelly. Damp. The whole room and building is a health hazard.
- Ka (4/5): - Old and unclean
- Catherine (4/5): - Bad
- Qing (6/5): - Location is good, but room is small than normal.
- PAK WAI (2/5): - Right at the middle of a street market place.
- Verified traveler (6/5): just a night sleep is enough - no window view as it faces another building, no privacy and has to put on the black out curtain. the shower head is no good and the desk just next to the door that the air condition does not reach there; feel uncomfortable. Needs $500 deposits which has not been indicated during the booking process.
- Bruno (2/5): - full of mold, smelly and not safe at all
- Sylvia (6/5): - It could have been better if we were arranged a room on a higher floor. Staying on the first floor was quite noisy as it's quite close to the street especially on new years eve.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was best and facilities good
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Dirty, bedsheets had hair under them. Felt itchy to lie in them. Floor was not clean and sticky, the room had a damp smell. Overall i would never go again
- sau ying josephine (8/5): pricing - why the price us difference as i need to extend 3 more night between webiste and hotel front desk
- Verified traveler (4/5): - My room card failed to get me into the room during the last 3 days of the
- William (8/5): - Overall the room was good, the only complain that I have is the lack of shelving. There was 1 shelve on top of the mini fridge, with a cloths hanger on top that was it. I was there for more than 3 weeks so finding a place to keep my cloths without digging into my luggage on a daily bases was less then ideal.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Worst hotel of all in 2020 - That’s the most disappointing stay in al of my hk staycation!!!
Worst hotel ever!! Staff impolite, lobby is full of stinky pork smell because it is located next to the meat market in North Point. Room is small and no facilities at all!
The bathroom shower was the worst design ever, the vent is outside the damn shower room!!! You have to open the door for ventilation if u using hot water for long. Hot water was limited as they were using energy-saving heater.
Everything sucks and disappointing. I will never come again.
- Wingyee (4/5): - This is my return stay after a year. I understand the condition of business environment is not good and active outside since COVID19 but they seems do hourly rate stay which makes the room more turnover and income. This time I was arranged in a room without properly maintained and equipped only one person amenities. Also , I felt so itchy during sleep (guest of bed buds coz got red on those places) and even I saw a butterfly-like insect in the room flying before my sleep which is really unacceptable. Overall, i think I won’t come back again for the third time
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean and tidy. Perfect for business stay
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Cleaning room service was terrible, the bed sheet wasn’t replaced daily.
- G (8/5): - The room was a bit small but was exactly what I wanted. Just a basic clean safe to stay with no problems or worries.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The hot water system is ridiculous. When I took shower for few minutes, hot water suddenly turned to cold water. I've got a cold after this cold water shower. The room is small and so many dust on the curtain. Very noisy in the morning because of the wet market.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great price but - Pros: the price. For the location, accessibility, proximity of public transport, airport buses, restaurants and shops, the price can't be beat. I actually find the room quite comfortable as I was here for a month. Plus people shouldnt complain about space, HK has the highest commercial rent in the whole world so I was actually surprised at how roomy the bathroom was, for example. Helpful housekeeping team though they sometimes miss cleaning the floor even if I explicitly requested it. That being said the cons: two weeks after I moved in a butcher opened up shop right next to the entrance which is truly quite gross. Hotel should really talk to them and make sure they keep their shop front clean and meat slabs tucked well inside the space. The hotel sits atop one of the oldest wet markets in HK so youre bound to smell a bunch of different things and it won't be the cleanest around in the summer, but street cleaners do a great job in keeping the area as clean as possible. Relatives told me that the place has already cleaned up a lot in comparison to many years ago. Again, you're here for the price, so please be realistic and don't expect 5 star ambience at a 2 star rate. It's Hong Kong, just get real.
Front desk staff is hit or miss. My fridge did not work for the entire duration of my stay (1 month) and they turned down my request to change to a new room which is very unfortunate. Thankfully it's winter or I would have been demanded for a room change. Shower is weak.
- Sally (2/5): - The space is very tiny, there were ANTS on the bed. and the sofa bed is so uncomfortable to sleep in. You had to press a switch 30 minutes before you shower and then the hot water would run out within 5 minutes.
DO NOT STAY HERE. Stay at RAMADA which is a few doors down on the same street,
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I am living for 5 months at M1 Hotel now and I have no problems with anything. The location is next to the ferry to Kwun Tong and Hung Hom. It is on the street of a famous market, unfortunately, it smells like dead fish, but not in the room, in the lobby though. The staff is friendly. Two elevators are sometimes busy but its normal for HK. I lived in all three basic rooms, all of them is good for the price. If you take the first category of room (I think its called superior) you will have the choice of taking the 03 or the 05 room. Ask for a 05 room cause it costs the same and it is slightly bigger. Overall, it is a god place.
- Alfred (8/5): - Good location and the staff are nice and helpful. Good choice for budget travelers.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Hot water system not working well
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great modern style rooms, very clean and surprisly large space
- Armi (10/5): - Staff are nice and accommodating specially when I asked the night staff in the reception area about “how can I get to Catholic Church “ he even printed me out a map and explained the direction well ( shoutout to you!!). Room were cleaned everyday that was a plus . Thank you M1 for our 4 wonderful HK stay. Will recommend this to my friends as it is very accessible to MTR and Bus going to and from airport.
- Verified traveler (4/5): "It is how it is" - Cheap, but... - I requested a double bed on the booking but apparently only twin beds remain available upon arrival; the front desk staff was completely unhelpful and had to put the beds together myself. No housekeeping staff were present to change beddings.
Boiler system in rooms, thus waiting time of 20~30 mins before showering.
- Allie (8/5): - Near the market selling fish, fruits and vegetables
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location. Poor lighting.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Hotel located at the market street & red light are - Just 1 night stay, strong smell from the toilet that was terrible.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room size was very good, however the location was outside a meat and fish market, so the stench is ripe! Sometimes the stall holders are hosing down the muck and you walk through it before entering the hotel. The cleaning staff were so lovely, which I had wished the front desk staff followed suit.
- Fe (8/5): - Good stay, location is very accessible to bus and metro.
- Rufin (8/5): - Pretty good!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - i won’t go agian when i arrive hotel check in then check out i really cannot stay at there
- Low (8/5): Hotel review - Convenient and near MTR station and shops.. Launderette is just across the street for those who do not want to pack too many clothes for your trip. However, the hotel is located right in the middle of a wet market, hence the pungent "fishy" smell and dirty street are 2 main things we did not like in particular.
- Dennis (6/5): Stormy day at HK - Hotel is situated beside a marketplace ...very near airport A11 shuttle bus stop and MTR
- Tamara (10/5): Location - Perfect location for street car, train and to the pier
- Tamara (8/5): Location!! - This hotel is on a busy street in front of a lot of meat markets and people Selling items. Around a lot of restaurants, the train and street cars are less than a block away! Perfect location to the pier
- GC (4/5): - The hotel is located in the middle of a foods market. So, it is not a very elegant area as the website of the hotel seems to indicate.
A gentleman at the front desk was helpful while a woman was not willing to help in any way. We were during the strike and I asked for the situation in the streets, she said that I can find it by myself. Any request of help was denied.
As we were several days, the room was not fully cleaned every day, I had to talk with the coordinator. I did not receive a proper explanation about how to turn on the heater for the bathroom, so I was with cold water for a few days.
The rooms are good, however, the complete lack of interest of the staff, especially the woman at the front desk, plus the feeling of being in the middle of a very poor area, eliminated all the stars of this hotel.
- kin (10/5): - Nice staff, convenient location if u don't mind a wet market downstairs, around 10-15mins walk to north point or Fortress hill mtr station
- Jace (2/5): - some of the staffs were rude. the room not too clean
- Kenneth (6/5): Tiny but livable - Room is small for 2 people as no place to put luggage. Location is just fine as it is at the market. Hong Kong is a small place crowded with people & this hotel is at the market place for local doing daily grocery shopping.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Cleanliness is very good. Concierge service is efficient. Close proximity to the main street and public transportation.
- Edison (6/5): - the location is close to MTR station.
Voice from each compartment is not well insulated.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - They make you clean your own towels if they don’t stay all white.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Overall okay, just the air circulation in room not so good.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - If you want an affordable place to stay in Hong Kong for a few days, M1 hotel is a good option. Its a decent hotel with all the basics you need and it’s close to public transport points. However, be warned that this hotel is located right in the middle of a wet market! If your stomach isn’t strong enough to stand the sights and sounds of raw meat and fish being thrown around, with discards and rubbish on the floor right outside the hotel, this hotel isn’t for you.
- Lily (6/5): - Moldy smell in hotel rooms and moldly bathroom. Reasonable price for location. Pervy men around the market and seen prostitutes, thus not family friendly. Overall, ok stay for budget travellers...
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location, close to food, transport and MTR. Easy access from airport via Bus A11
- Juliet Ye (8/5): Good stay! - It was a nice stay. The room was spacious and clean and the checkin was smooth. It is above a local market which I didn't find it noisy in the morning, although it was raining when I checked in so the smell of the market is a bit obvious but that doesn't matter to me at all. The next morning was nice way walking out as you can see a live market:)
- Verified traveler (2/5): Poor service and dirty room - Air con is out of order but front desk refused to hangs room. Cockroaches are everywhere.
- AdamB (4/5): - The property is a narrow high rise located in a street market. The rooms are layed out in 2 or 3 facing each other. This and the room size plus the finishing materials used creates an an environment which noise is transnitted and amplified between rooms. The door latches are set hard so cannot close without slamming. The beds are uncomfortable. Rooms are small with the look and feel of an industrial building, although the use of space is otherwise clever.the smoke detectors seem wired to the fire alarm and incredibly loud in a small space plus connected to fire services dept which is great if an actual fire, not so if just smoking. Housekeeping start at 8am so no lie in. Early morning noise from the street market means youre already awake. There are other properties nearby for the same price with better facilities and much less noise.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Hotel is OK, but the main land people on the same floor was talking to loud and smoking a lot in the mid light.
- Sarah (4/5): - not very clean, encountered a cockroach, could be cleaner and brighter
- Emily (8/5): - Get to enjoy very local environment. Clean & fuss free hotel
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Area is too dirty, room too small, bathroom smell,
- VA (6/5): - The washroom smelled like pee when we got there. And the room isn't big so we were able to smell it outside the washroom/in the bedroom. Aside from that, the hotel is at. A great location - close to subway station, there is a local day market right downstairs, many great dining choices around.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Location is convenient, and facing to the street fully filled with meat/fish/vesitables shopps, which is fun and/or a little noisy. Facility is well-designed but slightly worn.
- Robbert (6/5): - It was acceptable. Convienient location and reasonably priced for HK.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Needs a good scrub down - Fleas... Did not dare to use the blanket at night.
- ROBERT (6/5): North Point is a good location . - North Point is good location without the high end prices for lodgeings subway close great for airport bus 12a and 11 55 minutes by city bus 40 hkg dollars best buy Octupus card every thing exact change no refund need small bills. These hotels are a lot easier on budget worth the short subway ride to central lots of hole in the wall eateries bars close as well.lots of taxies use meters.Been here several times taste of real Hong Kong....
- Caroline (8/5): - By far the best M1 i have stayed. Yes the nearby market is noisy but its fun to walk by every time. Vibrant
- Verified traveler (8/5): Quite acceptable - Overall a good stay for the price and location. The shower was not as bad as I expected from the reviews. Would be happy to consider staying again.
- Edith (6/5): - the hot water for shower can only last for 10 minutes....
- peter (10/5): - Check in and out are fast and curtesy. Free Instant ground coffee.
- hin tak dominic (4/5): bad service - the customer service is bad
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was clean and nice. Walls are thin. Shower was a little erratic because the water went from hot to cold to hot to cold throughout the shower. Other than that the stay was nice, rooms were clean and staff were nice. I like that we could buy theme park tickets and cable car tickets too for cheaper than at the attraction itself. Right in the middle of a wet market so it’s good to buy some food souvenirs home too.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice ambience in this facility. Room is relatively big comparing to other hotels in the district
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good choice for short trip - The hotel is located about a walkable distance to the MTR (estimated 10mins). The room's aircon would be required for maintenance as it as foul smell after turning on for 15mins. The hotel shared the same street with a local street market, which is another view of how local live in this area.
- Haidee (6/5): - The hotel is exactly in the middle of a wet market, so it can be pretty smelly and crowded in day time. The location though is strategic and public commute is a breeze. You can easily take the North Point MTR or enjoy cheaper and better views with tram ride to Causeway Bay, Wan Chai and Central, and can take Bus A11 directly from the airport (check signs for public bus station in the airport and on return, the bus station from North Point is near Ferry Pier), cheaper alternative to MTR airport express. Lots of food and grocery shops nearby. Check in and out was fast, staff are nice. Rooms are small, has basic amenities, only local channels on TV with 2 stations showing English shows, the rest Chinese shows. The real problem is the shower which is not user-friendly and can be scalding hot. The linens, pillows and beds are comfy. Recommend for short stays, adults not family with kids.
- Mary (2/5): - Everything was a disaster. Location, price, cleanliness, staff, room, bed, shower, all was horrible
- Steve (10/5): - Good place to stay with reference to the price. Very new and clean. Near to train station too... Highly recommended
- Geri (6/5): - Convenient location and room was bigger than expected. Shower facilities can be better; water temperature is irregular even after following the hotel's pre-heating instruction.
- Oliver Osman (8/5): Nice & no frills accommodation - It was a reasonable stay. Local food eateries are around the corner & MTR is nearby. No frills stay
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hotel is in front of a fish market. Other than that, it's pretty good for location.
- Kenneth (6/5): - Arriving at 0400 I was pleased with the prompt and efficient check in. However, the room was smaller than expected with no wardrobe but a metal frame for hanging clothes. We found that the hot water is individual to each room and requires you to manually switch it on 15 minutes before you shower. Also the water ran cold during my wife’s shower. Not very clever and a bit of a problem when your hair is full of shampoo. The room size is a problem in many hotels in this town where the paying guest is fair game for what can only be summed up as “price gouging and overpricing.” Overall I was not impressed with this establishment and would suggest a rate reduction. Not very likely given the greed factor which prevails in this sector.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Ants everywhere, even on our bed. Hotel outside is dirty since right outside a meat/fish market. Hard to locate and have taxi pick up since it’s a small hotel. It feels more like a motel than hotel. Seems like this building was turned from an apartment into a hotel. Elevator is right outside of the room so you can hear people going in and out and talking. You also need to turn on the switch for hot water and be conservative with hot water before it runs out.
