Guest Reviews
- travelonlucy (10/5): Lovely stay - Stayed here for one night with friends, while in town to attend a production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (excellent!) at the Avon Theatre. This boutique hotel is in an old downtown building, and it couldn’t be more convenient to the Avon venue. We stayed in rooms 302 and 303. There was elevator access. The rooms were very clean, no carpeting anywhere, staff was professional, friendly and helpful throughout our stay. An older building, but the rooms were fresh and spacious - incredible 12 (or more?) foot ceilings. And the breakfast offerings were lovely and enjoyed by all. We’ll be back!
- Songyu (8/5): - Staff very friendly. My room is a little noisy from a washing machine
- Kathryn (10/5): - The welcome was great, the staff were very helpful. There is no on site parking but we were given directions to a nearby free municipal lot. We got dinner reservations at the Inn and we had a lovely meal. The hotel is old but clean and next door to the Avon Theatre so great walkability. Close to the heart of the action!
- Guy (8/5): - Breakfast was not included. Not happy about that given the cost of the room
- Nancy (10/5): - Loved the room as it was spacious, quiet and the bed was very comfortable. Had dinner on the patio - great wine selection and the food was delicious. Staff are very friendly, helpful and efficient. I would highly recommend having breakfast, lunch or dinner there as well as an overnight stay. Parking is close and it is right down the street from the Avon Theatre.
- Mary (10/5): - Great overnight stay one minute from the Avon Theatre. Nice to be able to walk around town. Staff are all warm, friendly, professional and very helpful. Rooms are large, high ceilings, clean - mattresses on beds are on the firm side. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent - steaks and wine by the glass are fabulous, apps, salads delicious. A great stay. Would recommend. Thank you!
- Joanne (10/5): - Quaint, charming hotel in walking distance to everything!
- Gordon (10/5): - Foster's Inn exceeded our expectations. Serious friendly and helpful staff.
- Brian (8/5): - Nice hotel. Pricey but good location. Parking is off site. 5 min walk.
- Stephen (10/5): - Great stay!
- Veralyn (8/5): - Loved the decor, quiet and conveniently located. Friendly staff.
- Suzanne (8/5): - If you are going to the Avon Theatre it is within steps. Farmer’s Market a block away on Sunday mornings. Rooms are large and clean. Parking is not on sight.
- Judith (10/5): - It was close to the theatre
- kjcambridge (4/5): Ripoff - We had the bad luck of staying in room 304, which is adjacent to another building damaged by fire and occupied by smokers. The room is not fit to sleep in. Poor ventilation, marginal mattress and brown tap water. We had paid for two nights but left after one, without a refund. Beware.
The breakast food was good despite limited service due to short staffing. Dinner service and food were better but the sangria was tasteless (food and drink much better at nearby parlour inn)
Look elsewhere
- Kent (8/5): Great location - be careful on price - Great location. Nice & clean. Our bill was different (more) than what we were emailed beforehand.
- Johanne (10/5): - Great staff. Fantastic location.
- Amanda (8/5): - Location excellent! Across from the Avon theatre.
Nice cosy room. Not much sound proofing (could hearing running around upstairs ).
Confortable bed. Good food at restaurant below.
Great friendly staff
Would stay again
- Genevieve (10/5): - Great downtown spot for the night. Food was delicious too.
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
All the staff, including reception, restaurant and bar were friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and I had no hesitation in leaving a tip for the cleaners. The Queen bed was lovely. The sofa bed less so. The meals in the restaurant were delicious.
- Arthur (6/5): - I would like to start by saying that the room was very nice clean and quiet. There was a half bottle of water left in the fridge which I’m assuming was from another guest. The people doing the check in and out were very pleasant and welcoming. We also had a very nice breakfast the next day. The disappointing part of our visit was dinner in the restaurant our first night. I made reservations and were seated on time. I had indicated that it was our anniversary (30th) and I did see it on the notes for the reservation. Our waiter seemed very flustered and not particularly focused. The main issues I had with dinner were the lack of attention from the waiter, and A very disappointing main course. I ordered the pork porterhouse and when it came it was not what I expected. It was very thin and dry, my wife wanted to to send it back but I don’t like doing things like that so I eat it. A couple next to us ordered the same meal and when the pork came it was what you would expect (thick and juicy) as well they were given steak knives to cut the meat. When our waiter returned we pointed out that the people next to us received a much better quality meal then we did. His response was that he just serves the food they send out from the kitchen and he doesn’t control the quality. He said he would let the itches know but I’m pretty sure he never did. There was also no recognition of our anniversary which was disappointing. this wasn’t our 1st visit but will be our last.
- Peter (6/5): Foster’s Inn - Room was neat and tidy but quite dated!
- Andrew (10/5): - Comfortable and friendly, great staff. Close to all the theatres. Was concerned about new owners (I've stayed many times before) but the only difference was a few upgrades. Still my favourite place to stay when I'm in town
- SANDRA (8/5): - Access to our room on 3rd floor from front entrance difficult. Had to navigate past a narrow area along the bar to get to the back & open a very heavy door to access the elevator. Separate front entrance had very steep stairs to climb. Not ideal for older guests with luggage.
- Ricardo (10/5): - I have been there several times and it has been very consistent in terms of service and price.
- Luisa (10/5): Amazing stay - The place was amazing, super clean and quiet. Avon Theatre is just right across the street. Walking distance to everything even Via train, about 6-7 mins walk. Awesome stay!
- Robin (10/5): - The housekeeper and the restaurant workers must smoke as the scent lingered and I have a smoke allergy but I loved the antiques and the vibe and it was very convenient
- Zonia (10/5): Loved Foster's!! - I booked an extra day at the last minute. The staff (Laurie) worked with me to make the transition to a new room seamless. The service in the dining room (Scott) was excellent with respect to recommendations and knowledge of the menu.
- Teresa (10/5): - Foster’s is one of my go to’s when catching a Stratford Festival musical/play. Good vibe, noce beds.
- Allan (4/5): - When I voiced my concern about no onsite parking staff were very argumentative and unprofessional. I was also double billed on my credit card and was unable to contact the hotel directly. I have had to waste time and effort to get the issue resolved. As of this time the money has not been returned to my card!
- Lydie (10/5): - Everything at Foster’s is lovely.
The staff is lovely, the room was lovely, the food, the drinks, the location, all lovely! Planning to stay there again next year.
- Brian (6/5): - Everything at the hotel was very satisfactory. However the bed mattress Was deeply grooved in the centre. it caused us ( in a queen ) to constantly roll into a valley and bump into each other. Thus repeatedly disturbing our nights sleep. A new mattress is suggested. We were in the “Skylite” room 3 rd floor.
- Louise (10/5): - Liked that it was so close to town. Nice high ceilings making the room appear very spacious. Would liked it to have a bath tub, but otherwise, excellent stay.
- Kathleen (6/5): - Located centrally. The room had no windows, only a skylight so even during the day it was darkness in the room however the skylight had no coverage so early in the morning the room was lit up. Also, the bathroom had a large window so if someone uses the bathroom at night and turns on the light, it lights up the sleeping area. Parking is not at the hotel but in a free public parking lot several blocks away.
- Natasha (8/5): - Room was clean and quiet.
- Douglas (6/5): - It was an okay stay.....decent sized room and good price for being downtown Stratford. I was told I would get my receipt for my stay via email but that never arrived.....so never did get to see a final "bill" for my stay. We stayed on the second floor which was fine. There is a bar/restaurant downstairs. We did go in there for a drink but staff didn't seem overly attentive.....so left and went to other places (The Starlight, The Relic Bar, Chuck's Roadhouse) which were great! There is free parking for Fosters but it is 5 - 10 minutes away. I would stay here again if the price is right.
- Marilyn (10/5): - Parking not convenient, especially in cold rainy weather, but other than that, very pleasant place and will book again.
- Valerie (10/5): - Very well located downtown Stratford. Parking was in free public lot around the corner. Not a huge deal because very safe area. Was a little inconvenient from a luggage standpoint. Great restaurant in main floor of Inn. Lots of shopping and restaurants within walking distance. Very quick walk to River and walkway along River. Very beautiful little town. The Festival Theatre a quick drive or 20 min walk.
- Jackie (10/5): - Everything was great. New management so a learning curve to some of the smaller details. It would have been nice if there was a mini fridge in the room. Wasnt clear about room service but easy to order and pick up from restaurant area. A few details on expedia don't match up ie breakfast hours.
- Terry (8/5): - Loved the ambience of this Inn. The food at the restaurant was cooked to perfection - our compliments to the chef!!
Ryan & Ted where very helpful suggesting places to dine, theatres to take in a performance, & providing a map of the areas' attractions.
The Inn was in the perfect location to walk most everything the theatre district has to offer.
My daughter & I had a wonder time, dispite the rainy weather. We'll be back!
- Old-Grapes (10/5): A Wonderful Experience - We have had dinners and breakfast here in the past and have always had a lovely meal. This time we decided to stay here as well since it is only half a block from the Avon Theatre for which we had Matinee tickets for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - an amazingly hilarious musical/comedy. Every Staff member we interacted with were very friendly and professional. Our 2nd floor room was very clean and nicely appointed and the air conditioning was quiet and efficient. No noises from anywhere except the creaking floors as you walked but what would one expect from the original hardwood floors in a building of this age !
I will agree that service, at times, may be a little slow so it's important to allow sufficient time for dining if attending Theatre. Our dinners, again, were very enjoyable and our Server, Todd, who has been here a numbr of years was very friendly and professional. One comment I will make regarding the open kitchen is that hair nets are not used but one fellow did have a ball cap on. This is a food safety issue.
It was so nice in the morning just taking the Elevator dowstairs and again having a lovely breakfast with excellent service.
All in all our experience here was what we expected and was carried out to the fullest. This certainly will be our "go to" place for future visits !
- Chris (6/5): - An average room with no special features
- Shari (10/5): - Lovely stay, great location
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay! - Foster's Inn was lovely! Fabulous room above a wonderful restaurant and bar! It was the perfect location for my theatre trip. Parking very close and free.
- Jim (10/5): - Fosters Inn is a fantastic place to stay. The rates are fair and the rooms are spacious and clean. The restaurant on the ground floor has a good variety of dishes and they work with you if you have a special diet. We were concerned about noise from the restaurant, but there wasn’t any. Pretty much any attraction is within wallking distance.
We are definitely going back Stratford in acouple of weeks and we'll be staying here!
- Judith L. (10/5): - Friendly, accommodating staff
- Enzo (10/5): - Updated nicely! Staff very friendly! We stayed in king bedroom, true to pictures
- Mariia (10/5): - Great place, has a restaurant on the main floor, wonderful food, fast service
- Teresa (8/5): - Really enjoyed our stay- dinner was incredible. Only suggestion is a coffee maker the room would be nice.
- Christopher (8/5): - Just needed a place to sleep for the night, while working downtown Stratford. Was close by, clean and comfortable
- Norb (10/5): - Hotel, bar and restaurant staff were very polite and friendly!
- Jacob (10/5): - It was nice. The rooms where big or at least mine was. It was kind of confusing to check in but not terribly complicated. It was a holiday though and I don't know if I checked out correctly.
- Tom (10/5): - Easy check in. Nice clean room.
- Robert (10/5): - Nice, clean and conveniently located.
- Mark (10/5): - Close to shopping downtown
- Y8746CVjoanv (2/5): bad service and bad food - Arrived with a party of 6, few minutes ahead of reservation( 2min) told not ready so forced to stand in hallway. I ordered the Calamari which arrive well after one else's
had ben served. Have had this dish many times in my travels and even frozen from a grocery store. This was not only not" crispy" but chewed like bubble gum. Don' put items on menu you cannot cook!
- Nickolaos (10/5): - The team at the Fosters Inn were great
- Katherine (10/5): 3 cheers Foster’s Inn - Welcoming reception ! Property info covered thoroughly.
Inviting room with very comfortable bed!
Dining room excellent food and service for dinner and breakfast. Cleanest glassware I’ve seen anywhere! Lovely staff at all stations.
- Tracy (10/5): - Lovey hotel, with excellent staff located steps from the theatre. Cute space to have cocktails and an overall welcoming atmosphere.
- Candice (6/5): - The property needs some upgrades but it's well situated. Parking is1-2 blocks away.
- Gilles (10/5): - Short distance from the Avon and Studio theatres (less than 3 minutes walk).
- Rebecca (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay in a squeaky clean room two doors from the theatre. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a treat. Only caveat is that the wifi isn't very good. I had to bail from a Zoom meeting because of delay and dropped service. Now I know.
- June (8/5): - Parking was a bit of a walk to municipal general parking but it worked out
Otherwise, old fashioned boutique hotel…walk in shower, bar, patio, dinner and breakfast available. Clean, quiet …
- Peter (8/5): - Didn’t know that we’d be in an apartment and not adjacent in the Inn. It took us a while to figure out where the free parking lots were but staff helped. There was a steep long staircase up to the flat which we could just manage but anyone with mobility issues or heavy luggage would find very difficult. The premises were clean and well maintained and very close to the theatres.
- Tom (10/5): - Great place!
- Timothy (10/5): - Lovely hotel above the restaurant and bar right downtown.
- Samantha (6/5): - Great location, nice property, friendly staff. However, we wish we had known that we were staying at the apartments and not the inn. I'm still recovering from a long illness, and thought we would be at the Inn and thus have an elevator. There are quite a few stairs at the apartments.
- Andrew (10/5): - The staff are unbelievably friendly and helpful
- James (10/5): - Very friendly staff, excellent location close to theatres and restaurants.
- Jessica (6/5): - The staff and location were great. Parking is a problem. You have to park behind YMCA where there is free public parking.
The room was very clean and spacious. There was a neat window at the top of the wall of the bathroom. It was neat until it was time for bed. The kids didn’t want the room dark so we put the bathroom light on. It was crazy bright. So bring a nightlight.
Beds were very very hard! I have never slept in a bed so hard.
All in all its a nice hotel. But for the cost I don’t think I will be back. It would have been nice if we got a breakfast voucher or something for the restaurant. For the price we paid.
- Pamela (10/5): - It was a great overnight stay and close to the theatre.
- Ed (8/5): - had a very nice dinner and evening
- Daniel T (10/5): Great location - Great laid-back stay in a well-appointed studio apartment a few blocks away from the main hotel. Apartment is a walkup with somewhat steep stairs. Excellent location with lots of restaurants and convenient to Stratford Festival theatres.
- Patrick (10/5): - Great place
- Patricia (10/5): - Beautiful space!
- William (8/5): - Parking is at a municipal lot a block away
- Dale (10/5): - There is nothing not to love about Foster's Inn! We have stayed here at least half a dozen times in the last few years - the staff are great, the restaurant 5 stars and the rooms are spacious and beautifully furnished.
- Karen (10/5): - The Avon Theater was just across the street!
- Jeremy (6/5): - This is a fantastic place if you just need a convenient place to stay downtown Stratford and are only going for a night. The room was really neat but just needs so more love. What got us most is that there is a smell like you visited your grandmas house and she has been a smoker for 40 years. Some air fresheners, more attention to cleanliness and a fresh coat of paint will go a mile. Parking is a bit of a walk which was not what we were expecting because it’s not right on the property. The last concern is the noise. Not that people were making a ton of noise but the hallways are so lively and there really isn’t any sound dampening material in the hotel so you hear everything! This makes it a bit difficult at night or in the morning when you want to sleep and you hear people talking or turning on the shower or knocking on doors. Stay here for convenience but it has some issues.
- Sharon (10/5): - Very quiet. Nicely furnished. Helpful staff. Clean comfortable room and beds.
- Peter (10/5): - Very homey, excellent dining room.
This is a unique city centre Inn that sports an excellent dining room and a very cool bar.
Within easy walking distance to two of the Stratford Festival theatres.
A block from the main shopping and dining areas.
Nice staff, clean spacious rooms, comfortable mattresses. Only downside is parking which a block away. Will definitely return.
- Richard (8/5): - Great location for walking to Avon theatre. No on site handicap parking but desk person gave up his spot at the back door where the elevator was located. Very kind.
- terry D (10/5): - Love that it was so close to the theatre. The staff was fantastic!
- susanlK341AT (10/5): Five stars for Foster's Inn - We just returned from what is hopefully the first of many visits to Stratford Ontario. Please go, book a room at Foster's Inn and dine there as well, and go to see "Something Rotten!". The play is immensely entertaining, one of the best we have seen - ever. Foster's Inn offers a great location, nice room accommodations, very good food (we enjoyed breakfast, lunch and dinner) and exceptionally friendly staff. We highly recommend Foster's Inn.
- Andrew (10/5): - Is really like an old-time pub with rooms except that it has all the modern amenities. My room this time (yes, I stayed here before and am already booked to be back) was minimal but the really friendly staff compensated. Very central for my needs and very comfortable
- Brian (10/5): Perfect Location - We were in town for La Cages aux Folles and chose Foster's Inn as our base, and not a single regret. Our room was very clean, spacious, and quiet. All of the staff were so amazingly helpful. The night of the show we were running a little late, and their restaurant staff ensured we received our meal quickly so as to make the show on time - thank you!
And we didn't have to go far - the theater is across the street! The entire downtown was at our hotel's doorstep - so incredibly convenient. We never used our car during our entire stay. Everything was no further than a couple of blocks in each direction.
We're both very grateful for all the effort Foster's Inn puts into their presentation and hospitality. We'll definitely be back!
- John (8/5): - Very nice in the heart of Stratford, the only thing I would change is for them to add simple in room coffee / tea machine
- Fortunato (6/5): - Nice large room with 2 queen beds & lg bathroom. No fridge or microwave. Parking is free, but 3 blocks away. room is up a long, steep flight of stairs, no hotel lobby - check in at restaurant next door; elevator is inconveniently located and only within restaurant hours.
- Alex (10/5): - A fantastic spot to stay when visiting Stratford! Would definitely stay here again.
- Andrew (10/5): - Really friendly staff. Always greets you with a smile..
- Frank (8/5): - We went down for the weekend to catch Spamalot. Enjoyed the stay. Don’t hesitate to contact the hotel direct for special requests.
- Lewis (6/5): Tired Mattress - My wife and i have been staying at Foster's for years whenever we visit Stratford. We have always enjoyed our stay as the staff are so great and it's lication is perfect for taking in all the theater that the Festival has to offer. This trip however, wasn't quite up to the standards we have grown to live over the years, primarily because the mattress on the bed seemed to have outlasted its expiration date. It was, i am sad to say quite a bit broken down, and as such we both experienced 3 difficult nights. Also the toilet ran ever so slightly all the time and then the tank refilled itself periodically all night long. I am hopeful that these maintenance issues were due to our visit beijg at the end of the busy season and that the innkeepers will be replacing old mattresses soon, etc.
- Grahame Freeland and Graham (6/5): - The property was old and showed it
- Sally (10/5): - Staff were very helpful.
- Susan (10/5): - Charming spot - friendly casual bar and tasty food. Friendly staff.
- Gary (10/5): - Location was great
The staff was fantastic
Our place to stay in Stratford
- Thomas (10/5): - Basic but clean and charming. Very good value. Excellent staff. Very friendly and helpful. Centrally located.
- Tracey (8/5): - We enjoyed the convenience of the location, the staff were very friendly and the room was clean. The skylight did not afford a sleep in as it was very bright by 6 am. The air conditioning unit was very loud when it kicked in.
Dining was excellent food and service fantastic.
Parking not available but free parking a block or so away not great if you have mobility issues.
- Diane (10/5): -
- Joseph (6/5): - Liked location & quaintness of hotel. Friendly and pleasant staff.
Disliked permeation of cigarette smoke and stale cigarette odour. Employees smoked under room window. Due to allergies, caused congestion every moment in room.
Disliked looking out window into open garbage dumpster
- Tamara (6/5): - This is a lovely inn, well located, good in-house restaurant with great staff. However, it’s time to upgrade the beds. They are old and uncomfortable (at least ours was) and my husband and I came out with sore backs after 2 nights. Bathroom was clean-ish. Otherwise, it’s a good option for accommodation while visiting the festival.
