Guest Reviews
- Paula (4/5): Wouldn’t go back - The location. Daily cleaning The room is old and small. The air conditioning makes a lot of noise. The breakfast was miserable: the quality, the options, and the refrigeration of the products. The price is average in Philly but it’s not a 3-star and it’s not an 8 points as booking says.

- David (9/5): Would love to stay here again...and I will! - I loved staying here. Good price, location, and room. Historic building. Good neighborhood, within walking distance to interesting tourist/historic sites. Kind staff. Good breakfast included!
- sgobbo (2/5): - La posizione La pulizia
- Kevin (8/5): Great place to stay in Philly! - Location is great. Has lots of old world charm. A bit cramped. Can use a facelift. New rugs, a/c units.
- Catherine (1/5): Very misleading reviews.Con job - Nothing Shabby,defective Lighting,defective blinds,dark dining room,poor breakfast
- Eloisa (10/5): A lovely art deco hotel to stay at in the heart of the gayborhood - It’s beautiful art deco charm

- Astrid (10/5): Great location and free breakfast - I have been coming to this hotel for the past five years. My family loves it.
The free breakfast is an absolute bonus and the afternoon social is great for grabbing some coffee and snacks. The staff is always friendly and very helpful if you need anything

- blissa2014 (10/5): Wonderful staff and best sleeping beds! - Our family stayed at this quaint hotel for a travel volleyball tournament. I was concerned as I was not familiar with it at all. I call the day prior to confirm my reservation and spoke with the Salina who was beyond kind and helpful. The staff were so friendly and attentive. The beds slept amazingly! Best sleep in a hotel ever. Would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be back.

- Zandra (9/5): Great location! - The location was GREAT! Really enjoyed the social hour with complimentary wine and other food items. The free breakfast was also a plus. The hallways were small; however it did add to the boutique flair of the hotel.
- Yueqing (6/5): Loved the vibe, not the hardware - Beautifully decorated small hotel. Location was great. Everywhere was within 20 minutes of walk. The neighborhood felt safe to a girl on solo trip. The social hours were great, and I enjoyed a great conversation with another guest. Staff were all friendly and helpful! There was a mouse in the first room I stayed in, but the staff changed my room immediately after. I booked a deluxe queen room for its two windows, but the second room I got had one window blocked by the wall of the next building. The chair wasn't the most comfortable and it was hard to sit for long hours. Beware if you're on a business trip.
- Sean (8/5): Comfortable hotel in excellent location with very helpful staff - Comfortable room. Good location very handy for city centre. The free cheese and wine in the evening was a nice touch and a good way to meet people. Very nice staff.
- LauraB10590 (10/5): Great Center City Location - Great location with easy access to center city. Fair value for the room too. Close to restaurants and topped off by a truly fantastic staff. If that's what you're going for, choose this hotel.
- Vanessica (8/5): 2026 Philly stay - Staff was amazing. Very pleasant and knowledgeable about the area. N/A

- Daniela710S (10/5): Great Location & Excellent Staff - I recently stayed at the Alexander Inn in Philadelphia for 2 nights while traveling with my baby, and overall I had a very positive experience.
The hotel’s location is excellent—very close to Rittenhouse Square and within walking distance of many major attractions, restaurants, and shops. It’s a great base if you want to explore the city on foot.
I arrived quite late (around 10:30 PM) and initially checked into the room I had booked, but it was extremely small. Traveling with a baby meant I had a stroller and a crib, and there simply wasn’t enough space to fit everything. I was honestly a bit shocked at first. However, the front desk staff handled the situation incredibly well. The woman at the front desk went above and beyond to help me, even though the hotel was almost fully booked. She immediately moved me to a larger room so we could comfortably fit the stroller and crib, but mentioned that I might need to switch rooms again the next day depending on availability.
The next morning, the gentleman at the front desk was also extremely friendly and helpful. I went out for a walk with the baby and came back just before noon, as they had kindly extended my checkout time to make things easier. With the manager’s authorization, they allowed me to stay in the same larger room instead of moving again, which made the stay much smoother.
I stayed in a two-twin room that was surprisingly spacious, with beautiful French windows overlooking the main street. Because it’s a busy street, there was some car noise at night, but I had a white noise machine with me and that helped a lot.
The room itself had a decent-sized bathroom with a tub/shower, a small fridge, and useful touches like a USB plug in the alarm clock and plenty of lighting. While the hotel itself is not newly renovated, the rooms were clean, and both the bed sheets and towels were fresh.
They also offer a social hour from 5–7 PM (similar to a happy hour), which I didn’t attend, and a complimentary breakfast that was quite decent—hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, coffee, tea, and a waffle machine. Everything was clean and well maintained.
For parking, I used SpotHero and parked in a garage about two blocks away, which ended up being the most affordable option in the area.
One thing that could definitely use improvement is the hallways—they feel a bit outdated and could benefit from a renovation.
Overall, if you’re looking for a great location at a reasonable price, with genuinely accommodating and friendly staff, Alexander Inn is a solid option.
- larry663 (10/5): A Surprise Gem in Midtown Philly! - Quaint almost "Bed and Breakfast" Midtown Hotel with a nice personal touch and still a thrifty Ben Franklin great deal!
- Kristin (9/5): Great overnight stay close to Broad Street Theaters! - The location is great. The room was really nice and I loved all the windows.
- Michelle (9/5): - Honestly a wine and snacks social hour every afternoon… what more could you want? The building is a bit dated but very clean and comfortable. We loved the neighborhood and it was an easy walk to everywhere we wanted to go. The room ran pretty warm, but we were able to balance it out with AC/open windows. Felt a little energy inefficient but we were comfortable.
- Samuel (8/5): -
- thedawnof31 (10/5): Lovely City Center Boutique Hotel - Fantastic location very close to the theater district, great walkable neighborhood, and close to all the tourist sites.
The staff was fantastic. Every person we spoke to was kind, considerate, and helpful. We arrived later than we intended to because of traffic and we were not able to get dinner before our plans and having the nightly refreshments was a fantastic bonus.
The room was very small, but that is to be expected for the style of hotel. Extremely clean and comfortable for just the two of us. The bathroom is a little tight, but the shower was good sized. It was really fun to embrace city-style living for the weekend.
Breakfast was fine with an assortment of breads and pastries and a few other things. The coffee was good. There is also an independent coffee shop right across the street, but we didn’t pop in.
- JBod (10/5): Perfect Spot for Exploring Philly - This hotel was the perfect location for our exploration of this part of Philadelphia. We we going to a show at the Academy of Music and needed a place to sleep the night. The Alexander Inn was less than a 10 minute walk from the Academy of Music, so we decided to stay there. We couldn't have chosen better. We had some time before the show, so we decided to explore the city. The Alexander Inn was in walking distance from Independence Hall, City Hall, Chinatown and Penn's Landing.
You could tell the building the hotel was in was old, but it didn't feel outdated, it felt historic. We had an end room overlooking Spruce St. and we could see all the way to City Hall from our window. The room was clean, the beds were comfortable and they even left us a card, water and snacks upon arrival. The bathroom had shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and body wash.
They had an evening social from 5pm to 7pm with complimentary cheese and crackers, soup and fruit. The breakfast in the morning was in the same room and was continental with bagels, toast, yogurt, a waffle maker, coffee, and cereal.
I'd highly recommend The Alexander Inn for your Philadelphia stay. It's not a big fancy chain hotel, instead it's charming and has character and the location is perfect.
- Barbara (9/5): - My husband and I love staying at Alexander Inn! Everyone there is very welcoming, and the Social Hour was a surprise bonus! The location is also very convenient to the culture and history of the city. N/A
- Stefanie (9/5): Very much enjoyed and I am sure I will be back! - Breakfast was a nice surprise as was the social hour. The location was exceptional. The people were very nice. The room was large and clean. The room was a bit dated as far as the bathroom etc. Lean into the retro aspect!
- Deanna (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay. Nice rooms, friendly staff.
- Sam (10/5): -
- 243larrys (4/5): Nice staff but some problems - All staff were very nice and helpful. Very good location. But guests have no control of room temperature. We stayed in Feb. Room was so hot at night had trouble sleeping and windows cannot open. Despite seedy appearance, reasonably clean and did not see any bugs.
- ARAY (10/5): -
- A839IFalicec (8/5): Perfect Location - The staff was very friendly and very accomodating. Hotel is close to restaurants and to Wills Eye Center where we went for my husband's surgery.
- tsteele_iii (6/5): Alexander Inn - Needs improvement - The Alexander Inn has been a favorite of my wife and myself since 2019.
We checked in Friday afternoon, Jan. 23, 2026. To be fair, there was a pending snow storm over the weekend, so reservations were few, and it's 17 degrees outside. The first observations weren't good. The bedspread appeared not to have been washed, the sink leaked water and, worst of all, the room was cold. REALLY COLD, maybe 55 degrees. (I don't carry a thermometer.) We did advise the front desk of the issues, and they did attend to the bedding, but were unable to increase the temperature. (Note: We did ask other guests about this. Some said their room was "fine" temperature-wise, and others said their room was "hot.")
The breakfast offered to all guests is basic: bagels, English muffins, hard-boiled eggs, juice, tea, and fresh fruit. Their coffee was delicious and an attendant was on top of the breakfast bar at all times.
We thought the front desk and custodian did their best, considering the challenges. Nevertheless, the rooms weren't up to past standards. We're disappointed with our recent visit and hope standards improve.
- Barbara (9/5): -
- Oren (6/5): Good value but could be better - The location, price, and the fact that the reservation included breakfast The lack of available parking, including temporary parking in front of the building for unloading and loading upon arrival and departure.
The building has a lot of deferred maintenance needs. The bathroom and shower tile have been patched/repaired numerous times and it just looks really bad at this point. The beds were ultra firm, which I like, but all of the pillows in the room were lumpy messes. Water out of the tap is quite cloudy; this was not just a matter of air bubbles in the old pipes because it did not resolve after allowing the water to rest in a glass. This isn't unexpected with an old building in Philadelphia, but the hotel should provide complementary bottled water in the room.
The included breakfast was decent. They're trying but there is one employee who is scrambling to keep it all together. Options include cold cereal (Cherios and something else basic/plain but not corn flakes), make your own waffles, some bagels/pastries, hard boiled eggs, and Quaker oatmeal packets. They have tea packets and regular and decaf coffee, and offer regular milk and almond milk. I ate hard boiled eggs and oatmeal, which were fine, but the microwave for the oatmeal is not out front so I had to go back to the kitchen to ask the employee to put it in the microwave.
- k3ts5ryan9 (4/5): Rooms are not clean - This place is old. My room looked like it had not been vaccumed in months, very visible deep dust the whole way around the room along the floor boards. Dirt in the corner of the bed frame. No control over the radiator that was full of dust bunnies making it smell. Mold in the AC, that is just an old window a unit, that could not cool the room. The bed was uncomfortably stiff and half the pillows smelled musty. I regret picking this hotel and obviously do not recommend.
- Melissa (2/5): Would not stay there again and will not recommend it. - The reception desk had a good host Selena, she was engaging and informative. The beds were terrible, springs on the surface mattress in both rooms. The rooms had been sprayed with so much air freshener we had to sleep with the windows open and there is absolutely no sound proofing in the rooms. Large trucks driving down the street actually shook the beds at night.
- DeAun (1/5): Frustrating - Location Both rooms had plumbing disasters. Front desk staff was helpful but manager was completely unresponsive. Won’t stay there again. Stay at your own risk.
- Irene (4/5): Too expensive for what it is. - Nice location, clean. Where do I start. (1) The breakfast was terrible: all the pastries and bread slices were stale, and there were very few options. Didn't match the pictures whatsoever. (2) There wasn't a remote for the AC in the room, so we had to keep it on unwillingly. (3) The TV was very very old. I could go on but these were the top 3. The price was absolutely not worth it.
- Reynold (2/5): IT was not what i expected. - The Location is good. The size of the bed was too small. The room was too small. No water was provided for drinking on the first day or on checking. There need to be more options for breakfast. I did not like the size of the bed and the room. If i was a travelling for work a work space would have been necessary. I did not like the options for breakfast.
- Tamara (10/5): My stay as the Alexander was great! I will rebook with in the future - Location was perfect! The staff was friendly, professional and accommodating! The breakfast was great! Christian was very accommodating and the social gatherings at 5:00 was on point. Thank yoy Only thing that could have have been better is the room was a little warm but other than that everything was awesome
- Sarah (6/5): Great location but that’s about it - Location was good. For $200/night I expected more. Pillows were pretty bad, breakfast was okay- a continental breakfast would have made this stay a lot better especially for the price. Also didn’t like having to pay for parking that was blocks away from the hotel
- keithg93 (10/5): Great location, freindly comfort - The hotel is ideally situated in the city, and is a building with a ton of character. It is well-maintained and cozy. I have stayed there many times and look forward to going back.
- Alice (7/5): The location was terrific. - The staff, especially Melissa, were conscientious and pleasant and tried to solve any questions or problems. Also, the continental breakfast had more variety than expected. And that room was kept up well, so kudos to the staff handling the lounge area! The rooms were small, kind of overheated (except my original room, in which cold air leaked and the curtains didn't close), water pressure was up and down. The hotel looked kind of shabby although I understand it is an old building.
- Joseph (7/5): Adequate -
- Abigail (8/5): -
- Zoë (9/5): Great location, friendly staff, really enjoyed my stay! -
- davidpQ5313GB (6/5): Great location and value - for the money. This place has great location and good bones but it has been a long time since it was renovated. It needs some TLC
- Lawrence (9/5): - Central location, comfortable bed, pleasant staff Shower pressure a bit low. Heat in room cannot be controlled.
- Jennifer (3/5): -
- richard (8/5): I liked the hotel and a great location for walking to different historical locations I would come back there - The location is great It’s a little dated
- el70401u7q (10/5): Very friendly and welcomed - The location is good. It is quite near Jefferson station and Market street. I did all the touristic point walking. They offer a social evening that I thought is so cure and make us feel good there
- Claudia (4/5): Blah! - Wndow blinds broke when I tried to pull them up; other window faced a wall 3ft away,.Toilet paper holder flew across the room when I tried to extract the tp. Room itself was old, tired, badly decorated & supposed to be DeluxeQueen. No coffee maker. Uncomfortable bed. Hard to unload bags & check in… no space on street to unload. Parking garage was 3 blocks away. Really a disappointing experience.
- 1vlr8qngu7 (10/5): Comfort experience in a stay for christmas. - General experience was very good during my stay. The hotel services, location, manutency, rooms and workers were amazing.
- ARIEL (9/5): -
- Mesut Can (10/5): Perfect Philadelphia Stay - Literally everything was great. Room, staff, breakfast, social event, location, price. Nothing really bothered me.
- NadineB285 (8/5): Close to Every fun thing in Philly - After extremely courteous reservation and check in, we were able to only park once.
We walked to theater, sites, excellent restaurants.
The room was big enough for five with great city views.
- Daniel (9/5): This hotel is a hidden gem in Philadelphia - Location and clean, comfortable room Nothing
- Linda (10/5): - Neat and clean and staff.
- Rachel (10/5): - Great location, easy check in and cute room It was a little warm in the room overnight but still slept well
- Maria Luisa (9/5): Great place! - Great atmosphere, loved the hotel's decorations and evening social events!
Staff was so helpful and nice!
Their passionfruit soap is also the best soap I've ever had in a hotel room. The fruits for the social event and the breakfast seemed old.
- Karl (7/5): - Great location. A little noisy.
- JOSEPH (8/5): Excellent value! Great location. Comfortable and cozy room. - Great location. Safe area.
- Mrexb (9/5): - Comfortable and clean
- Melissa (8/5): -
- Mark (9/5): Very agreeable--as always. - I always stay at the Alexander Inn when I come to Philadelphia. Love the size and location of the hotel. Staff member at the front desk had never heard of the Reading TErminal Market when I asked for directions to the nearby site. That surprised me because it's one of the best known places for tourists in the city and is located only six blocks away from the hotel.
- Naomi (10/5): Our home away from home - We always stay at tge Alexander Inn when we're in Philadelphia.
We love the location. We can walk to many of the places we want to go. We also love that it's a unique boutique hotel with a great sense of authenticity and great design. The staff are consistently friendly and helpful. Continental breakfast is included. The coffee is quite good. Another nice touch is that happy hour with wine and snacks is included.
- O'Riordan (8/5): -

- Andrew (8/5): - Loading and unloading was a little difficult due to the location of the building.
- Leonardo (9/5): -
- Jérémy (10/5): -
- Sherri (6/5): - It was very quiet. Very old, building, furniture, decor, literally everything and the beds were very hard.
