Guest Reviews
- Yana (8/5): Excellent for a roadside motel - It’s a roadside motel. Extremely cheap. For the price- it was excellent. Beds comfortable enough. Not enough towels. No toiletries besides soap. NO COFFEE MAKER. That was strange. BUT the room was big and had fridge and microwave. Overall very happy.
- Lori (8/5): Clean and Comfortable - The room was clean, the bed was comfortable. Refrigerator and microwave were available as well as a TV and wifi. There were a few drawers for clothing and some hangers for jackets or shirts. This specific room had a table and 2 chairs, no desk. We stayed for 2 nights and while it's nothing fancy, it was fine for what we needed and the location right outside Shenandoah Nat'l Park is perfect. Lots of food and shopping either a 10 minute walk or short drive away. Be aware you might want to bring your own toiletries and kleenex. They provide a new bar of soap and a plastic packet of shampoo, but that's not enough if you have long hair. Check-in and check-out were super easy, the people were very nice and gave us any extra towels etc. we needed.
- Tony (4/5): - no hot water just warm , and not very warm , locks on door hard to lock , toilet seat very loose ! Will say room was clean ,
- vicki (6/5): - Hot water available only one night out of two. Lack of usable electrical outlets. Shower and bathroom have not been updated in 60 years. Medium to loud noise level area.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was clean and spacious. No ice machine, and the shower pressure was pretty weak due to water still falling out of the faucet. There was one flimsy lock on the door, and no lighting out on the corridor nor on the stairs! The lack of lighting on the stairs was very unnerving, since i packed up to leave before sunrise.
- Brian (4/5): Place sucks but cheap - Dirty, looked like door was kicked in. The dead bolt wouldnt work. Crackhead motel
- Brittany (10/5): - Clean, spacious room. Very courtious staff.
- Laurie&Glenn (10/5): - A really great value! Large, spacious, clean room with very comfortable beds and pillows. Friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice hotel. Short stay. No breakfast. Good wifi. Big size rooms.
- William (4/5): I would not recommend the Royal Inn Motel - Was not in the best of areas. Language barrier at the time of check in. I could not understand what all the host was saying and the payment method was outdated. There were broke down vehicles in the parking lot but the positive was that I parked right in front of my room door. No amenities except a small bar of soap and small packages of shampoo and conditioner. For $62.00 it was over an priced stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Low cost, no frills motel. The staff were very nice and the room was nice and clean. The room had a microwave and fridge and the tv had HBO. Very conveniently located and easy to find. Overall, it was a great experience for a very low cost. I would stay there again.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Nasty. Dirty. One of the worst hotels that I had been so far
- Matthew (4/5): There has to be much better options even for the l - Run down facility in general... bathroom ceiling falling apart, horrible water pressure, water only gets warm... beds are horrible....I have low expectations for a $60 motel and even that price was a stretch
- Verified traveler (8/5): - One light and set of outlets didn’t work. However, they granted us late checkout, which was great!
- Frank (8/5): It was a great place for us to stay. - Right place where we need to stay, on our trip to Rolling Thunder.
The hotel was nice, clean does need some updating/ upgrades but overall it was ok for the 2 night stay. Owner was really nice to us treated real good.
I pick this place cause we really didn’t want to stay in DC cause of the Traffic in the city, we was only 45 minutes from there it was just right, we be there again next year.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Just a typical cheap motel. Not expecting much. Met expectations.
- rebekahhancock (2/5): Horrible place! - Checked in, unpacked, and then found trash behind the night stand and soap on sink counter where they literally just picked up the soap from the last guest and didn't even clean anything! I went down to the front desk and showed the lady the picture I took of the trash and she immediately started yelling at me over and over saying you check out, you check out! I would not recommend this place to a dog! Let alone had my dog had gotten the medicine laying on the floor amongst the trash, they'd have real trouble!
- Laurie (2/5): Think twice about staying here. - The front desk person was polite but that is about the best I can say about our stay there!. The room was dirty, burn holes in the comforter on one of the beds. Both beds had no fitted sheet, at least that is what we originally thought but there was a fitted sheet rolled up at the bottom of the bed we slept in. We will NEVER stay there again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - always love staying here when I come visit The valley
- Larry (10/5): A great little place to relax! - “A peaceful, country setting, with really friendly management staff!”
- Lori (8/5): Everthing you need for a comfortable stay - This is my go-to place for hiking around Shenandoah National Park or any of the neighboring trails. Walking distance from the Dicky Ridge trail, right off 340 and Blue Ridge Parkway, walking distance or a short drive to food and some awesome shops. The king size bed was super comfy, you can adjust the room temperature to anything you want, and the fridge and microwave allow you to supply your own food if you want (I have food allergies). Check-in was a breeze, the manager was helpful in supplying any information I needed. The room and bathroom were clean. This is a fairly basic setup with drawers and hangers for clothing if you want to unpack, a desk, nightstands and the necessary amenities including working wifi and TV. Multiple smaller wall lamps allow for one person to rest while another is reading or working. It is also one of the best prices around. I've been there multiple times and will be staying there again on my next trip.
- John (8/5): Not bad. - It wasn’t bad, I needed a room and got my room. It wasn’t dirty and it didn’t stink and that’s all that matters to me.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Terrible location poor communication with owner unclean price was not competitive compared to others too much off the Beaten Track
- Joe (4/5): - I looked for an ice machine; they don't have one. There is a small refrigerator in the room, with the top freezer space (not effective). No bucket for ice. No tissues. Shower curtain had mold/something on it (they replaced it on request). One bath towel was tattered with a hole or 2 (they replaced it on request). 2 hand towels (gray; towels were white), we wondered if they were clean or not. Bed linens were strange. The queen bed and the pillows were nice. New carpet.
- Sheila (6/5): - Needs room facelift and deep cleaning. Stained grout. Dirty looking carpet. Nice desk/table and chairs. Great location for access to Shenandoah National Park.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Despite being a no smoking hotel, our room stunk of stale smoke.
There was a roach in the bathroom. I will never stay here again and will never recommend it.
- Dennis (4/5): - Hotel is in need of some serious repairs. Handrails not secure, unsafe locks on room doors and very out dated finishes in rooms. More like a $50.00 or less room. 1 star at best. People checking me were friendly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff was extremely friendly, which provided many useful information
- varsity42 (4/5): Not our favorite place - Very dated - kids running around everywhere - they were polite but just not exactly the best location. Low price and everything worked but road is pretty noisy (just know that going in.) Would not go back.
- Joe (4/5): Hotel close to Shenandoah National Park - Made reservations on cheaptickets for a room with two queen beds. Room was not available at check in and was given a room with a king bed.
- 77jp (2/5): Really Bad... Low rate but still not a value - Listing on Trip Advisor states free wifi. The clerk said, "We don't provide that." Our TV wouldn't turn on and clerk said, "Not our fault, cable company fault. So we had no TV. Paid cash for room and clerk didn't want to give a receipt, stating, "We don't give receipt for one night stay." Because of mobility issues, asked for a first floor room when the room was reserved, weeks in advance, and was told at check in that no first floor rooms were available. The sheets weren't big enough to cover the dirty mattresses and they wouldn't stay on. Kept waking up directly on the mattress (yuck) and trying to re-cover it. Air conditioner ran constantly but room was never cool. There was no coffeemaker or hairdryer but there was a fridge and microwave BUT the microwave didn't work. There were only a few outlets and only one worked. One outlet had wires exposed and no plate cover. Hair on bathroom floor, not ours. The shower curtain had nasty mold at bottom. Not adequate soundproofing. Towels tiny, very worn and rough. Never again.
- edwardo958 (6/5): Dated but fine - Simple dated double room. Clean and the bed was comfortable. Nothing to write home about and at $66/night nothing to complain about either. Manager was helpful suggesting nearby restaurants (all franchises except Spelunkers Cafe which was also fast-food but fine).
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel room was clean, well equipped for an overnight stay. Small refrigerator, microwave, cable TV.
- Hope (10/5): Wonderful room, great location, wonderful staff - Wonderful room, great location, wonderful staff. Can't ask for much more. Room is a tad out of date but comfortable and clean. Only ten minutes away from Skyline Drive. Plenty of places to eay in the area. Would go again!
- Zannoah (4/5): Gross and outdated - The sheets had stains on them. There was no coffeemaker in the room. The sink was very low. The soap and shampoo was practical joke small. The towels had stains on them. Wont be staying here again.
- dog person (10/5): Great! Just as described, close to park/town - Exactly as described in text and photos. While not the fanciest (no massage, dry cleaning, pool), I didn’t want or expect those things. Perfectly adequate, respectable, and very clean. Family run, Staff was very nice. On quieter, less busy part of main road, nearer natl park. I could easily walk to mini mart, to large grocery, to restaurants and into town, too. Pet friendly! Certainly not the most luxe, but had modern tv, WiFi, microwave, fridge and Heat/air worked great. Mattress was one of the better ones ever (go figure!).
Exactly what I wanted, slightly better than expected. For the money, a great deal. I recommended it to other people at my conference, and will stay there again.
- jt (4/5): just ok - get what you pay for ,needs renovation
- Patrick (8/5): - Great base to explore Skyline, and DC from.
- dcwx2 (2/5): Refused room due to a registered service animal - I was in the process of renting a room at this hotel. I mentioned that I had a service animal. The manager stopped. Shoved my id and credit card back through the window. He told me no pets. When I explained he is not a pet but a registered service dog, they guy told me company policy only allows 5 service animals on the property and they already had that. I tried to tell him what the ADA law is on it and he he now says they do not have anymore rooms available. This was labor day weekend and it was extremely smoky outside due to a fire. Now in a town of booked motels I was being refused a room for having a disability that requires a service dog to be with me. To make matters worse, the room he was going to rent me was a handicap access room.
- J_S_2011_S_J (6/5): Fine stay - The staff was very friendly and the location is pretty good. The bed was ok, the tv nice, the water pressure decent. It's an old hotel, so don't expect something super nice, but it's comfortable enough for an overnight stay. Sound does carry, I heard every car outside, every footstep above me, and every person talking outside....but the noise died out by 10pm.
- Brenda (4/5): Got what we paid for! - Well there was no power for my hair dryer so my husband went to the office to tell them & they knew about it but put us in the room anyway . They brought us an extention cord .
The TV didn't work so my husband called about that. They said they would be right there and never showed!!!
- 404wendellv (8/5): Met all expectations - We reserved our July rooms back in February, although we had trouble confirming our reservation on the phone before we left, we arrived to find everything in order. The employees were kind and curteous, the room was clean and had a fridge and microwave. For what I paid for the room this was my expectation, the beds were comfortable and we were able to rest here as well as if we were home. There are many things to do in the area and we stayed busy before making our way to washington.
- ShlomL (8/5): Good & Simple - high cost effective - The owners are nice
We receive quality service
very accurate descriptions of the various sites
Simple, clean, spacious and conveniently located
There are several restaurants in the area
There is also a shopping center that can be furnished and a Wolmart around the vicinity
- David (4/5): A cheap sleep - Location was OK for our purposes. The beds were comfortable. The room was very tired looking. The WiFi did not work... which makes booking or planning your next day very difficult. Had to call front desk to get someone up to fix TV.
- landruu (8/5): Budget motel for you and dog - This motel was fine for us since we are travelling with our dog. They do charge a $10 fee, but it is one of the lowest price motels in the area. Check in was courteous, it is clean, rooms are large, and beds were very comfortable. It does remind you of the old days because it is a throwback motel with regular room keys. Good location and I we would stay there again.
- 706gerrye (6/5): Okay For The Money - Stayed here, one night, after riding Skyline Drive in the rain and fog. It's old, and not in the greatest shape, but okay for the money and just one night. However, it was clean. The linens were clean and bed very comfortable.
- ELHS220 (10/5): Second visit, same as the first - I stayed here in October on my way to Florida, and again now on my way back. I just don't understand poor ratings giving to this motel. I am a budget traveler and, in my opinion, it's fine. If you want the Ritz, stay at the Ritz. If you want a five star budget accommodation, stay here.
- JoyceD1846 (4/5): Better than sleeping in your car if your car has bugs. - No frills, no service, just a bed to sleep in and a toilet and kind of a shower. Don't look too carefully or you may see something crawling around. Thinnest towels I have ever seen. Does have a fridge but no actual freezer in it. AC and heat seemed to do ok.
- 401terrancek (8/5): Old fixtures, but Clean and Functional .. GREAT VALUE! - EVerythng was .. old. The tv picture was not HD. The front of the a/c was (neatly) duct-taped on. The wall had a (neat) patch on it. The door lock had an actual KEY! :O
.. That said, everything WORKED just fine! Oh.. the bed linens & towels & such were new.. linens crisp & white, bedspread bright, sharp colors.
More Pluses: Staff very friendly and helpful. Extra pillows provided as requested. Cable tv didn't work as expected when we got there, but was fixed within 5 minutes of calling the desk (we were pushing the wrong buttons .. ). No breakfast (it's 1-star), but 7-11 is at the corner, Spelunkers (GREAT burgers!) a block up, a real Italian restaurant across the street, etc. etc. Fridge, micro, iron all worked well. Everything was CLEAN, everything WORKED PROPERLY. :)
- Verified traveler (8/5): Spending the night before a conference. - We choose to spend the night instead of driving back for a morning conference. We wanted a basic place to sleep without amenities and that is what we got.
The bed was reasonable but the heating system continued to cycle all night long very loudly. Other than that it was good for the price.
- CaRodVee (6/5): It was okay for one night. - We only stayed here for one night before driving Skyline Drive and doing some hiking in parts of the Shenandoah Mountains Trail, so it was a good starting location. It is not even close to a luxury hotel, but it was suitable for the one night.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Last Resort. And that's no pun. - We got overcharged from the promised rate. The maintenance was poor. There were scrapes on some of the walls. The overall appearance was poorly maintained. There was a definite unpleasant odor. It was out of the way, losing us an hour of travel time.
- PhiladelphiaRay (8/5): Very good if looking for basic and clean - I needed a place to stay the night before I was going to drive the Skyline Drive. This place was perfect. For $60 I got a clean room for the night. This is not a luxury hotel but an older motel in pretty good shape for it's years. Bathroom was in good sbape as well as the furniture and appliances. King bed was a little soft for my tastes but their sign outside said they have all new firm queen size beds. Maybe they have not yet gotten to the king beds.
Location very good. One of the closest to the park, only about 5 minutes away. Also within walking distance to a steak house and an Italian place. A longer but stlll easy walk to downtown with more restaurants and bars.
If you are looking for a place to crash for a night or two, I would consider here.
- william (6/5): OK for the price. - It was an OK place to stay. The bed was very comfortable. The only big complaint I have is why the ham would you make a bed, especially in a motel, without fitted sheets??? It does not seem like a very good way to protect your nice beds. It needs updating, but was OK for the price.
- cordh919 (6/5): Basic, but clean - Extremely close to Skyline Drive. Can be noisy during heavy traffic times, but the AC was enough to cover the sound at night. Quite a few channels on television to help pass the time. Lack of computer in the office had me worried, but they were very organized.
- Sandra (4/5): Needs Improvement - I don't mind an old hotel, which this one obviously is, but I do mind dirty. The beds were comfy and clean but the bathroom was very dirty, specifically the shower curtain and tub. Also, there was something dripping from the ceiling above the toilet. All in all, I would not recommend.
- christine (8/5): Comfortable and convenient - Comfortable and convenient and the price was great. Two suggestions would be a coffee maker in the room and an ice machine. Other than that it was fine for the price.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Too noisy to sleep! - The motel is older but rooms were clean enough. The problem is traffic all night in front. Sirens passing more than once. Then people walking by rooms talking loudly until after 3 am.
- ELHS220 (10/5): Everything You Could Want - Very nicely appointed room with king size bed, flat screen TV in entertainment unit, microwave, fridge, large AC, large desk type table and chair, small upholstered chair, coffee table, two night stands, three lamps, ceiling light, wifi, decent bathroom and well lit sink area, very good shower. The only negative was the TV. I couldn't get it to switch off of the channel that it was on (NBC). If I had really needed the TV, I might have requested a room change. But I didn't bother, so I will not lower my five star rating which, as usual, is based upon what one would expect from a $50 budget type motel. My room was #201 (second floor) and free parking is in a well lit lot right in front of the rooms. The location appears to be on the far edge of town coming in from I-66 exit, maybe 1-1.5 miles. There is a gas station-convenience store close by and a small Italian restaurant right across the street. I passed by many other places to eat on the way through the town, but they are really not within walking distance of the motel.
- Kristine (8/5): No frills, but convenient! - It was kind of surreal to go into the office and not see a computer anywhere! Despite the lack of tech in the main office, the wifi was pretty good. Great location, if you're headed for the Shenandoah National Park. No-frills (not even tissues or a hairdryer), but the bed was comfortable.
- Katherine (6/5): Cheap and Clean Motel - The Inn is clean and the staff are friendly. It's outdated and has a lot of poorly done repairs, but there's hot water and good lighting and it's cheap.
- 491cindyr (8/5): Racing and touring - I came to this town for a 10k race and was looking for a decent hotel that was economical. This place fits that need! Clean room, affordable, close to attractions, friendly staff, a And free wifi. East to find and free parking. A hot shower after a long day was nice!
- 81kierstanm (10/5): Worth it! - Im giving it a great review! i was quite surprised to walk into the room and see updated furniture. The bed was extremely comfortable..bathroom needed updating but by no means was it gross! Everything was clean..more accessible electrical outlets would be nice but other then that great stay! Friendly clean and affordable. Much better then i had expected.
- Stephen (8/5): Reasonable rates and clean - I rate this hotel quite high, as they provided exactly what one expects to get for such a reasonable rate- a nice bed, a shower, and a clean room. We stayed here during a brief rest from hiking the AT, was just what we need, at the right price.
- 45danab (6/5): Inexpensive & Quiet - The price was perfect, the room was clean. I found the bed to be very comfortable, they even offered free HBO. My only complaint is the way the silver duct tape on the inside of the room, where a lock used to be. The air conditioner was also a bit loud. It's your typical motel. Other than that, the town is BORING!
- Jon (8/5): Convenient, clean, inexpensive - Inexpensive, but convenient and clean. A family runs it, and they keep the property up nicely and do a fantastic job running the place. No free breakfast, but coffee and tea. Free wi-fi, and convenient location. Would stay again, especially for the price!
- Bill & Carol (8/5): - Room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The wall appear to be masonry so it was quiet. No elevator but desk was able to assure us a ground floor room, A good value for a short stay.
- Stephanie (6/5): Great location for dining options and skyline dr - Basic hotel with no amenities. Beds comfortable. Room very clean. Micro and fridge in room. New TV mounted to the wall instead of the old fashion on the bureau. No hairdryer. Bring your own bathroom amenities. Location is great for walking to dinner and super close the the entrance of Skyline Drive. No ice machine, but soda machine. Great room for a great price. Perfect one night stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Close to the AT - It was a very clean reasonably price room that was very comfortable and great to have after the trail.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Definitely not the Hilton but - Excellent service, everything clean and working
Staff friendly
