Guest Reviews
- Sarah (9/5): An excellent stopover for walkers of the SW Coast Path. - Very friendly and helpful staff. Perfect location. Good Breakfast. Small bathroom.
- Karen (8/5): - Very friendly and helpful stuff. Great location. Good place to start walks. Eazy walk to the center. Road a bit narrow. Outside a great view on the harbour.
Very good breakfast choices but a bit slow to serve. Toilet made a LOT of noise when flushed. TV small and slow to react. Carpet a bit stained.
This is a very old facility, the beds are probably as old as the building is, the shower door didn‘t close, warm water in the shower was scares. The handwash basin was a joke in itself as it was impossible to get the hands unter the taps. There is a very strong surage smell in the room. When windy the windows shatter so loud that one gets the impression the roof is going to come down. The Restaurant is very old style english and therefore nice to look at. The food is simple and the menue lacks imagination.
- Kim (7/5): Decent value and great location for walkers great breakfast - rooms a bit dreary though - Friendly and accommodating staff, good location for SWC path walkers though a bit of a walk to town for amenities. Room was Spartan but clean. Excellent pastries at breakfast. The view from the room (11) overlooking kitchen bins - rooms could use a refresh

- Deborah (10/5): - Historic property, comfortable room, very helpful staff, nice pub About .5 mile from town centre so a bit of a walk if eating in town
- Soarele Cristian (10/5): -
- Madeleine (9/5): Very good guest care by happy staff. A pleasure to stay. - Very good but slow Room was basic with some things needing attention.
- Robert hill (6/5): - It was by the harbour .and a very nice pub The thin walls .i was trying to have a sleep in the afternoon but i couldnt because of the cleaner banging around and hovering.and the room was painted a horrible dark blue.
- Larry (10/5): So full of character we will be back. - Excellent customer service, good food, fantastic views from the balcony , nice and warm through out the pub. Loved this old inn so full of character and history with a great atmosphere and seating outside. If it's windy just be prepared for rattles and noises but this to us just added to the character of the old inn . Only issue we found mattresses not very comfortable
- Paul (8/5): Great location and friendly staff - Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Fab location.
- caroline (8/5): Comfortable stay in a great location - Fabulous location on the quay, cosy pub atmosphere
- Eve (8/5): Minehead - Excellent location and amazing staff.

- Sonja (6/5): Friendly staff - Staff very friendly and helpful. Good value for money and clean. Pub and reception in need of updating. Perfect location for South West Coast Path.
- Nancy (5/5): First impressions were good, but as the stay progressed it was very disappointing... - I didn't have breakfast and I ordered a table for dinner, but never got a table at 19;00. I subsequently became unwell, due to lack of food, and overslept for breakfast. So had breakfast next door.... I could not either charge my mobile in my room. I did not have an alarm, so breakfast was not possible, due to me oversleeping.. The initial impression was good, but the lack of food was a total let down.... My towel rail coming off the wall in the Bath room and going without food for such a long time, and the staff stating they would phone me to potentially make an offer of some sort as an apology for not being served food... The Manager would get back to me...

- David (8/5): Always a pleasure and idealic place to stay. I'm back a further 3 times this year 😃 - Breakfast is very good. Ideally situated for our fishing on the Bristol channel. Evening meal was disappointing on size of portion on one of the 2 meals i had ( But not on previous trips ). Internet is poor and non existent in the farthest bedrooms. Minor stuff
- Kerry (5/5): Convenient location and good food/drinks. - The location is perfect, the pub is great and food/drinks were of good quality. Staff were friendly. The beds were very comfortable. To be honest, the room wasn’t particularly clean and it was very dated and the bathroom very small. Noisy outside our room due to be above the kitchen. Corridors very run down. Expensive for what it is compared to other places we stayed whilst walking the coastal path.
- Steve (9/5): - Friendly and helpful staff. Good location for hiking. I had to leave at 8.30 so I missed breakfast, but was given some pastry to take away also gave me a packed lunch. Windows were rattling in the wind, but I soon rectified with some cardboard shoved in between.
Would help if breakfast was a little earlier for walkers doing the Coastal Path.
- Marcus (8/5): -
- Lynda (4/5): - No gluten free no fresh fruit or frozen berries, forgot my beans and when they arrived they were barely warm, salt and pepper damp, black specks in hot water and cups.
- Lawrence (8/5): Another great stay. We’ll be back soon 👍🏻 - Stayed at The Old Ship many times. All the staff are excellent, the food always good and the location both convenient and ‘traditional’. The place has a lovely feel.
- Quentin (8/5): What we expected and of a quality we would recommend and return to. - It was great to stay at The Old Ship Aground. The room was fine and the breakfast excellent (along with the evening meals we bought). The staff were really nice and very helpful. We will be going back as it is situated at the 'right end' of Minehead. Free parking is a little limited (there is plenty of paid parking (not to costly). Depending when you arrive it probably won't be too much of a problem and it (the free parking) is right outside the pub so very convenient.
- Tim (5/5): Not bad - Room was comfortable and clean location was great Breakfast was not adequate,I’ve had financial security issues with this hotel this must be rectified
- Trudy (8/5): Very enjoyable & comfortable - The breakfast was beautiful , There was no view from room only a road
Rien
- Richard (10/5): -
- Louise (9/5): - The bed was very comfortable and the thermostate worked well, in that I turned it right down at check in and the room was cool by bed time.
Breakfast was excellent.
Fantastic value.
Would recommend Nothing
- Kevin (10/5): - The staff were extremely friendly. Location is excellent. Food is great. Comfortable bed. My wife and I were only there for 2 nights, and for some inexplicable reason, we were both wide awake at 3 am. So, instead of waiting for breakfast time, we packed our bags and headed home. Unfortunately, the breakfast was the only disappointment. One order was missing items. And pretty much a help yourself attitude, were the only faults with the stay.
- Rebecca (10/5): - Stayed in a king room with fireplace for one night. The bed was very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Lovely position on the harbour with free parking around the hotel if you’re lucky. Breakfast was tasty. Dog friendly. It was so good I’ve booked to go back in a few weeks time. Nothing. Liked everything.
- Barbara (8/5): - Location and friendliness of.staff Total chaos at breakfast time, every morning they had run out of several items, we felt that the kitchen was run on a shoestring with very little planning/management - the owners also seem to be saving on staffing costs because only one person was ever on shift and they seemed to be responsible for absolutely everything, inc.daily room cleaning etc....
- Roger (9/5): A Very Enjoyable Stay - Thoroughly enjoyable stay, the room could do with some modernisation but it was comfortable and clean and more than good enough for my needs. The food was excellent, both the evening bar meal and the breakfast. The staff were friendly and exceptionally helpful so all in all an absolute bargain. The only problem was that the shower drain was partially blocked, and the water level rose above the door seal. I had to wait for the water level to drop before I dared open the door. A very minor thing and something I'm sure that will be very easily fixed.
- Elizabeth (9/5): Friendly and welcoming - Lovely old building in an excellent location. Nothing
- Katy (7/5): - Closeness to the harbour as we were going sea fishing Breakfast was suooose to start 830 we were dow for 815 to get breakfast as quick as we could due to going fishing but the lady was very slow to get breakfast started
- ralph (7/5): - The location and the excellant breakfast Room and surroundings were rather shabby
Porties redelijk klein.
- Tanja (5/5): -
- forrest (8/5): Great -
- Mary (4/5): Disappointing - The staff were lovely Breakfast was a total disaster. One lady on breakfast (too many people for one person and she was rushed off her feet) breakfast starts at 8.30 despite being at the beginning of the SWP so the room was full of walkers at 8.30 keen to get away early. Took half an hour for us (much longer for others) to get our hot food. I had porridge which was cold and inedible my husband had scrambled egg and 2 rashers of bacon, scrambled egg portion was tiny. Left the breakfast room feeling frustrated and sorry for the one woman doing all the work.
- Kim (7/5): - The breakfast was lovely room was fine. Hotel closed 10 pm and stop serving food at 8.30pm and staff not the friendliest.
- Debbie (9/5): Lovely place to stay - Couldn’t fault anything the breakfast was excellent Everything
- Jodie (10/5): Good location, good value, friendly helpful staff. - Good location at the end of town away from the theme park; Twin room clean and comfortable; Varied pub menu and nice outdoor seating near the harbour for sunset. Staff went out of their way for us to arrange dessert after the kitchen had closed.
- Jean (9/5): Perfect for my needs - Location, parking, friendly staff, excellent breakfast beautifully cooked Smoke alarm went off middle of night and emergency phone number in blurb in room didn't work
- Rosie (10/5): - Lovely room with a great view. Very friendly and helpful staff nothing was too much trouble. Superb breakfast will be back.
- Mark (8/5): Superb location on the harbour. - I love this place. I stay here once or twice per. The Landlord and Landlady are really helpful. Some of the food is good quality, although a bit pricey for what it is, same with the quality beer (compared with other local venues) but the location makes anything reasonable value. The accommodation itself is fairly priced. The included breakfast is excellent. The last few times I have stayed here, I have stayed in the twin rooms or a balcony room, which just have spectacular views. This time, due to availability I stayed in a small single room, I last stayed in two years ago. I was amazed that the door lock did not function properly, the window didn't work, the TV didn't work, and the toilet roll holder was hanging off the wall in a bathroom with a barely functional shower... exactly the same faults as it had two years ago! But, for example the door lock, only required a very minor repair to put it right.
However, the lovely landlady told me that they were hoping to have the building fully refurbished soon, so hopefully back to it's standard of the past without loosing the character.
Still love the place though.
- Johan (9/5): -
- François (6/5): - Problems with the breakfast menu, items missing and long wait for service.
- David (7/5): Ideal location and friendly staff. - Ideal location; warm welcome; great food (eventually); spacious room and very comfortable bed. The facilities were a little ‘tired’. Breakfast was only served from 8:30am and was very slow in delivery which when there was an appointment to meet dampened the whole stay experience.
- Amy (9/5): - Staff were so helpful with last minute amendments to my booking. Decided to stay another night after running a marathon. Breakfast was lovely! Would stay again
- Jacqueline (10/5): Supposed my expectations - Exceptional value for money, all staff, very friendly room was very clean with plenty of space for a one night stay Nothing
- Jacqueline (10/5): A wonderful place to stay - we loved The Old Ship Aground - The location was superb. We also did great walks from here and made visits to lovely places like Dunster. Our room (with balcony) looking out over the harbour was gorgeous. Evening meal was great. Breakfast very good. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Altogether, a great stay. Thank you so much. A minor thing - just the shower in the en-suite was rather low pressure and took a long time to get hot. This didn’t detract from the great stay we had.
- leigh (10/5): -
- Mark (10/5): -
- Louise (9/5): - I liked the whole atmosphere of history teamed with a friendly staff. Breakfast was good but disorganized.
- Claire (8/5): Perfect location and good food - Location Little bit dark but homely
- Antonia (9/5): -
- Liz (9/5): Great location, lovely stay - Fabulous location, easy parking, friendly welcome and very comfortable quiet stay; would recommend.
- Robert Webster (8/5): - Location.
- Aron (2/5): Not happy at all - Breakfast Very cold 🥶 room and I was with my elderly mother she was very cold 🥶 all night and morning very disappointed ☹️
- Anna (8/5): Overall comfortable but a little more attention to detail would make it worth the money! - The location! The room was comfortable though a little basic for the price! I thought the room was the least good value for what I paid among all of my stays this holiday. The room was cold and I waited almost an hour for my breakfast, when I needed to get out on my walk!
- Steve (8/5): -
- David (10/5): Another great stay - Well ive atayed here a few times, its comfortable, warm, good food and beer. Great view over tbhe harbour
- Joscelin (8/5): Quietly perfect - Lovely location and helpful staff Nothing
- Guest (10/5): -
- Knight (6/5): - The location was beautiful Expensive to eat at the property and the room as fairly basic but suited our purpose
- florian (10/5): Perfect stay ! - super nice room for the price, right at the beginning of the south west coast path, perfect for starting or finishing it + you have the pub just downstairs + full breakfast was very good maybe a little too long to be served for breakfast but not a real struggle
- Christine (6/5): - The sceney Spring sticking out out of bed shower small
- silvia (7/5): -
- Sharon (10/5): Lovely stay, great value for money and I would stay again - Lovely welcome from the staff. Excellent customer service. Food was priced right and was really nice. I would definitely stay again and would recommend it if you want to be walking distance to the town but somewhere quiet at night
- David (5/5): Nice setting and friendly staff, but a bit of a disappointing stay - The location is good - right next to the harbour, and very close to the beach.
It was good to have an en suite shower room. Breakfast took a long time to be served.
The toilet seat in my en suite wasn't properly secured, so it moved.
There were no hangers in the wardrobe in my bedroom - I think you can get a pack of 5 hangers for a quid, from Poundland, so this wouldn't be a big outlay!
- Stephen (9/5): - Great location and value for money Nothing
- Jonathan (10/5): Excellent , will book again - Pleasant and friendliy atmosphere
Well received
- DEBORAH (8/5): -
- derrick (10/5): -
- matthew (10/5): i will return very soon - had a very nice stay room 9 i was in had great sea view
- Jane (9/5): - Staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was comfortable and quiet . It's a shame that there is so little parking available.
- Wilkinson (7/5): -
- Ian (10/5): -
- Jonathan (5/5): It was ok but I won’t stay here again. - Breakfast was fine but coffee was awful The management - just not very friendly.
- Emma (10/5): Can’t wait to return! - This is a wonderful, traditional pub with friendly and welcoming staff. The location is wonderful, set on the Quayside with beautiful views across the beach. The room was stunning, with a HUGE and very comfortable bed. Delicious breakfast cooked to order too. We loved everything about it.
