Guest Reviews
- Cynthia (10/5): We would definitely stay there again. Great room, friendly staff nothing was to much bother, thank you - Excellent stay, everything we needed was there Location
- Paul (10/5): -
- Nancy (7/5): The rooms were comfortable, and clean, the breakfast was delicious but the noise level was very upsetting and a bit of a - Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. The lady in charge of the rooms in particular was readily available. Although they provided ear plugs, we were not fully prepared for the noise from the bar downstairs primarily from the street in the wee hours.
And not that could control it, we were woken up at 2:30 am by several individuals who were locked out of their room. They knocked on the door for about 45 minutes until on site staff dealt with them. Clearly not something they could control but equally they could have acknowledged the upset and disruption with a gesture of customer service. A drink or something. We paid good money to stay and it came highly recommended. Stayed 2 nights and did not get a good night sleep due to uproar.
- Andrew (10/5): Pleasant visit in Hexham Northumberland. - Terrific breakfast. Comfortable, clean room. I would stay here again. Great location for visiting Hadrian’s Wall, Roman Army Museum, and Vindolanda. Walking distance to Hexham Abbey and a Hexham Train Station. There was nothing I disliked.

- Vaughan (8/5): Good quality and confortable stay over in Hexham - Lovely large bedroom finished to a high standard with super comfy king size bed and nice bathroom with huge shower. Although the accommodation is over a pub, i was pleasantly surprised how well it was isolated from any noise.
(I had room 6 by the way which is apparently larger than the others and I think furthest away from the pub bit!) No onsite parking but there’s a large free public car park 5 mins walk away. The breakfast is provided by a sister hotel over the road, but I didn’t mind (and the breakfast was excellent!)
- Nick (10/5): This was my final stop walking the Wall and it felt like a guilty luxury, my room was well above the standard I was expe - Excellent location for walking the Wall with Bus and Train Stations within easy walking distance. Fantastic room, massive bed , great en-suite, nice lively bar atmosphere and great choice of breakfast.
- Roland (8/5): -
- Daniel (7/5): Wonderful location for Hexham centre - Beautiful room and wonderful professional staff Miss leading parking information (street parking only)
Breakfast mediocre at best,
- TREVOR (8/5): It was overall a good stay . I would return. - The property was clean , single room was small but had everything i needed. I stayed two nights and the room was cleaned to a good standard after the first night. The bar and downstairs area was not open , due to refurbishment .
- Matt (6/5): -
- Anne (9/5): This is the place to stay. Almost in the centre of Hexham but far enough away for it to be quiet - Because of maintenance to the building , meals had to be taken at their sister Hotel over the road but the staff were so welcoming and helpful it really wasn't a problem. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Nothing I didn't like
- alan (2/5): Very poor - Nothing Hotel was closed for refurb.no staff no bar no restaurants.had to go to the hotel across the street for breakfast.never again.won’t use booking.com again
- Neil (7/5): We only found out the day before we were due to arrive that there was some renovation work going on and we had to use th - Room was clean and bed was comfortable It was very cold for the time of year and the heating didn’t seem to . It was very noisy overnight both inside and outside the hotel. The hotel would benefit from some double glazing.
- margaret (9/5): Comfortable stay in a historic inn - The room was clean and comfortable, the staff welcoming and the breakfast great, including a good alternative to the usual 'full English'. The hotel was also very central. Not the hotel's fault but the bar next door was playing loud music until 1am on the first night and loud customes outside afterwards so difficult to get to sleep. Apparently this is only Saturdays and not every weeķ.
- Neil (9/5): Well presented and located property with friendly staff and well appointed and clean rooms. - Surprisingly quiet room above a busy pub, friendly staff and a lovely presented room. There was nothing to dislike really although it was unexpected to have to go to a ‘sister’ establishment for breakfast. The other establishment was only across the road and the breakfast and staff were great.
- Maureen (10/5): Luxurious and comfortable - Friendly and helpful staff
Beautiful bedroom with great bathroom
Great breakfast in sister hotel Nothing
- Anthony (8/5): Great value for money. - The greeting from staff, the security and cleanliness of the room. The windows are thin so the noise coming from the high street was easily heard.
- Samantha (9/5): - Breakfast was varied and at a good standard
- Ruth (8/5): -
- Susan (7/5): A pleasant experience in a very convenient position. - The food snd service provided at The County Hotel. The shower that could have been hotter and a “ connected” heated towel rail. The bar area seemed rather characterless.
- Lesley (9/5): Worth a visit - The lady took us to our room and explained everything we needed to know about our stay . The little accessories like tooth brush and toothpaste, face masks, dressing gown s and slippers plenty biscuits, and a beautiful huge very comfortable room everything we needed 😍 The noise from the courtyard, arguing shouting screaming . Couldn't go to sleep untill premises closed up
- Geoffrey (10/5): Very enjoyable. Thank you! - Cosy. N/A
- Whirledge (9/5): Staff went over and above to make our stay very relaxed and comfortable. - Good central location No parking and having to cross the road to the County Hotel for breakfast. The coach and Horses currently does not do food.
- Geoff (10/5): - Lovely little hotel with a super breakfast
- Jorn (9/5): -
- John (10/5): 10/10 stay - Every think was so clean and all the staff was very friendly Nothing
- The Winter Spa (6/5): A night above a busy town centre pub-it's up to you if you like that! - Breakfast was awesome, great location and free public car park only a short walk away. Popular pub below so if you like a drink and a night out it's all good. Popular pub below, so if you don't want people boozing, smoking and having a night out below your bedroom maybe it isn't the place for you. Our bedroom was right above the entrance to the pub so anyone who wanted to smoke, vape or kick off in front of the pub did it below our window.
- John (10/5): - Friendly staff , clean , comfortable and close to all the amenities.
- Kathryn (9/5): - Room was clean, modern and spacious. The staff were extremely helpful and the location was perfect. Breakfast at the sister hotel (The County) was cooked to order and excellent. Nothing to dislike.
- Nicky (9/5): Lovely - The room was lovely, good bed and pillows, modern warm and very clean
Breakfast included
Toiletries and a tea tray too Parking could be a challenge as you need to park local, I was lucky and found a spot over the road near the Pizza shop
The staff were helpful in advising where you could park nearby
A little noise from the bar below and the traffic, but there were some earplugs provided on the bedside table so it didn’t affect my stay at all
- Dominic (8/5): Great Hotel and pub with excellent staff. - Clean and well maintained, comfortable room. The staff were excellent and very accommodating, they went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience. We were booked in for 2 nights and the first night was a little noisy from outside. There were a couple of takeaways nearby and the restaurant next door was hosting a party which we could hear until after midnight. We knew we had booked into a pub and were prepared to stay for the second night however the staff were marvellous and moved us across to their sister hotel across the road. We even had an upgrade to a large room with a super Kingsize bed!
- Oliver (10/5): -
- Ann (9/5): -
- Michelle (9/5): - Excellent place to stay. All the staff were really friendly and the room was spotless with great facilities. A fantastic night's sleep even though it was on the main road. We had both an evening meal and breakfast at the sister hotel The County and again, the staff were very accommodating and friendly. I'd definitely recommend and I've no doubt we will be staying again.
- Stu (7/5): - The staff, were helpful, kind and friendly
- Patricia (8/5): We enjoyed it and would go again - Location was perfect for all the town , our room was really nice comfie bed and lovely bathroom Had to cross the road to a sister hotel for breakfast and bit of a hassle finding parking
- John (10/5): We wanted a few days away to celebrate our wedding anniversary 53 years 🥂. - Both were excellent 👍 Nothing everything was perfect 👍
- Richard (7/5): Good enough to say we would return! - Breakfast good. Location suitable for what we wanted to do Felt a bit uncomfortable being in a pub with opening hours out different from hotel.
Main problem was road noise, particularly the first night but ear plugs had been thoughtfully provided!
- Belinda (10/5): A great weekend in a beautiful part of the country, catching up with friends. - Great breakfast, helpful, friendly staff, fantastic location. Na
- Abigail Shona (1/5): POOR SERVICE - The hotel was not as described on the booking information. Check-in was disorganised. The property was not suitable for someone of my age and disability and little was done to rectify the issues.
- Louise (8/5): Great location and a good sized room - The property is very central and it’s easy to enjoy the town. The staff were pleasant, efficient and inviting. The breakfast across the street was good with a wide selection of cooked options and great service. The room was large with a good sized bathroom and a good shower. The room was freezing when I arrived and took an awful long time to warm up. The parking is ‘as you find it’ which can be a bit hit and miss. Saying that I have stayed twice and found parking close by both times.
- Rosemary (7/5): Ideal for a short stay … breakfast is over the road at a sister hotel . - The rooms were clean and cosy Unfortunately it seems like the pub is used as the local youth club 🙃
- Thomas (9/5): - Gutes Frühstück
Bestens ausgestattete Zimmer über schönen Pub
Ruhig trotzdem
- Katie (7/5): - Size of room
Breakfast very good Lots of noise of an evening
Having our breakfast over the road
Lack of parking
- Douglas (9/5): - Room was very clean and comfortable, the breakfast was outstanding, the server couldn't do enough for us plus our dog got scrambled egg too
- Fiddes (10/5): Excellent -
- Nalmas (9/5): -
- Mark H (10/5): - The staff, the location, immaculately clean room and bathroom. Only the heating upstairs was too hot but not a problem as radiators had thermostats...but I fear for their heating bill!
- campbell (8/5): Good hotel but not the right facilities for us - Great location in Hexham No parking at the hotel. The bartender was a bit rude but the manager was very nice. Breakfast across the road was excellent.
- Rebecca (7/5): -
- Rachel (9/5): - Staff were brilliant from booking until leaving.
The room was warm and cosy.
Nice little extras too like ie) face masks, spare toothbrush, and earplugs ( not required) Only one minor point. The room was quite dark, lovely at night with all of the lamps on, but getting ready was a challenge. The mirror in the bathroom was a light up one, but there was not really anywhere to put make up etc whilst getting ready.
- Meredith (8/5): Nice room in a busy location. - Very comfortable and nicely decorated room. Very good breakfast at affiliated pub across the road. I need to begin by saying that this is all a matter of personal preference and not a criticism of the hotel. If you are happy to be above a busy pub that is open until midnight, and nextdoor to a disco that is open until 1am, then go for it. To be fair, they did provide earplugs which helped a little, but I had a pretty sleepless night with people carousing on the he street until 2am.
- Andrew (10/5): Over the exceptation, I'll be back. - Professional, friendly staff, very clean, good location, comfortable bed.
- ansar (10/5): - By far one of the best places to stay in the northeast of England, beautiful restaurant and bar, the host is always welcoming, accommodation is clean comfortable and cosy
- John (4/5): Very disappointing stay - From the outside the property looked good and the bedroom and en-suite well presented and clean.
Property location for what I needed was good.
My room was upgraded. The property is no more than a pub with rooms. Check in was poor by the bar. The person checking me in continued her conversation with other people she was talking to when I arrived! Not a good first impression.
The whole of the ground floor is split into public bar areas with one side having a pool table. The music noise from the bar until 11.00pm and banging of doors in the bar areas until 11.30pm was unacceptable. There was some street noise as the bedroom does not benefit from secondary glazing. The bed and 4 pillows were all hard and uncomfortable for my preference. There are no blackout curtains so the street lighting came into the room. I could hear someone snoring in the room next to me and someone walking on the floor in the bedroom above. This all contributed to a really bad night with little sleep. So much for an upgraded room which was on the first floor directly above the bar areas!
Although food was available in the sister hotel across the street, in the pouring rain and cold this wasn’t an ideal situation.
- kevin Richardson (10/5): -
- Shaun (9/5): - Location was great, just across the road from the venue. Nice and warm. Staff were great very friendly, nice bar. We saw Henry Cole at the Queen art centre.
- Angus (8/5): -
- Sarah (8/5): Would definitely stay here again if in the area. - Great place to stay in Hexham. Right in the centre. Lovely breakfast at the sister hotel over the road in the morning.
- John (9/5): Excellent and comfortable with a warm welcome. - Very friendly and welcoming - given an upgrade which was a pleasant surprise.
Room very comfortable, clean and warm with an excellent shower.
Breakfast also very good, albeit in a sister hotel across the road.
- Gillian (10/5): Friendly town good shopping and brilliant accommodation. - Clean friendly nice large room. Immaculate bathroom with bath. Exceptional breakfast very good value included in the room rate too.
Parking was not a problem ample free parking around town Nothing to dislike
- Fiona (10/5): -
- Glen (8/5): - The location was ideal
- Walter Bridge (8/5): -
- norman (10/5): very satisfied - I did not take a breakfast N/A
- Keith (8/5): - Hotel staff were helpful No parking
- Douglas (9/5): Good room in a central location - The location was excellent for the centre of Hexham, the room was tidy and comfortable. Nothing
- Paul (9/5): -
- Cora (10/5): -
- Jobie74 (8/5): Great location, good value for money - The location of the hotel is great, right in the town centre. It is on the main road so there is traffic noise. Free parking is available either opposite or nearby. Staff were great and the room had a comfortable bed and the room was clean. Tea and coffee available and toiletries provided. Room was really warm.
Breakfast was at the sister pub across the road and it was a great breakfast. Plenty to eat. The hotel is above a very busy bar with a young crowd. We didn’t experience any issues or noise but we felt very old when having a drink in the bar area!
- Nina (10/5): A fantastic break with friends in a fantastic place - Great location in town with access to all local amenities. Comfortable bed exceptionally clean room with complimentary tray and all toiletries. Breakfast cooked to order with great quality ingredients. All staff extremely friendly and helpful. Absolutely nothing at all

- Jenny (7/5): -
- Diane (9/5): It provided a comfy stopover on a long journey. - The room was great value for money. Lovely big bed and lots of nice little extras like the slippers and robes. The pub is on the high street so only a short walk to the centre.
- Malcolm (9/5): Thoroughly enjoyed our stay - Lovely plenty of choice N/A
- Nicholas (10/5): Great base to visit Hadrians Wall - Breakfast was great, really friendly staff, great welcome Fed back some ideas on the room which were taken up by the manager
- Neil (9/5): Great friendly pub with excellent facilities - Central location
Friendly staff
Comfortable room with good decor and facilities
- Simon (9/5): - The staff where great .jo andd kileigh really helped .as i am sight impaired. A credit to you . No issues at all
- michael (8/5): -
- Clout (8/5): Whats not to like - Great location, lovely clean room and en-suite, the staff were friendly and helpful as we're the staff in the sister hotel The County where breakfast was served and where we also had an evening meal.
- Frost (7/5): Staff were brilliant and friendly but facilities disappointing - Location was excellent but the parking was a slight issue trying to find a parking space by the hotel Bed was un comfortable too hard and bathroom was a bit unmaintained with gaffer tape on riser rail , also shower too high to get in and out of safely .
- Christian (9/5): -
- Semple (9/5): Great Hotel in a Lovely Town - Great location and although it was on a main road it was very quiet. Tastefully decorated with a large comfy bed, tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge. Clean and modern bathroom. Air con unit was a bonus too. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Breakfast was served in their sister hotel and bar next door and they only had one person serving during our stay which meant there were lots of dirty tables, no clean/set tables and some mistakes with orders were made. The cooked breakfast was very good though!
- Paul (9/5): Excellent- would recommend - Breakfast provided was excellent The High St side could be a bit noisey
- Chris (10/5): - Very comfy, giant bed. Lots of thoughtful touches in the room (face masks, lovely toiletries, robe/slippers, ear plugs). Beautiful decor, great shower. Couldn't fault it! We had a wonderful stay.
- Geoff (10/5): - Lovely little hotel really comfortable and cosy
- Karen (8/5): Good central location with modern facilities and friendly staff - Good central location however the parking here was tricky. Rooms were updated to modern amenities. Breakfast at the County hotel was excellent who were looking after coach and horses guests. Noisy at night with patrons spilling out onto the street.
- Clare (5/5): sadly we will not be going back. - We stayed at the Coach and Horses last September and loved it. Lovely friendly pub, good food, great staff and good breakfast.
The character has completely changed. The pub no longer does food, the breakfast room is now a pool room and we had noise and police outside our bedroom We had to go across the road to another pub for breakfast. It was short staffed and messy, although the poached eggs were good, service was slow and poor.
- Alison (10/5): We enjoyed a lovely stay, and the rooms were very comfortable. Thank you for your attentive staff - Everything
- Gerard (7/5): -
- Jonathan (9/5): -
- Oonagh (8/5): Excellent - Location was perfect. Very safe and secure. Beside bus station. Not far from train but some uphill.
Room was charming. Bathroom very spacious and exceedingly well supplied with everything you might forget. Well done!
Charming welcome from Graham. All staff were very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast in sister hotel, County Hotel, was very good. Very efficient service. I would definitely recommend the Coach & Horses and would stay again. I do not approve of dogs in dining-rooms (this was in the County Hotel). Only happened one morning out of three but it spoiled that breakfast for me.
- Jessie (7/5): More a good bed and breakfast than a hotel - Well located for shops and restaurants No parking close by. We were fortunate to have a room at the back away from the main thoroughfare. However no view.
