Guest Reviews
- Robert (8/5): -
- Zoetmulder (8/5): Great value for money and very conveniently situated. - Location was perfect and it was certainly value for money. The wifi wasn't too great and mid-evening I lost it altogether.
- Christopher (7/5): - Breakfasts was excellent Room at the top of 5 flights of stairs
- Vivien (9/5): Just what I needed........ Just lost all the other text I was giving you -
- Fiona (9/5): -
- Stephen (9/5): Walk weekend at Pewsey - Clean spacious room Nothing
- Julie (5/5): Very clean - Location and price Above a pub so a little noisy. Didn’t like having to check in at a busy bar. Mattress was awful.
- Sally (9/5): -
- Raveen (10/5): - The atmosphere and the character of the pub, the room had a nice comfy feel to it
- Tony (3/5): - The barmaid on monday was amazing The landlord doesn't acknowledge guests arrival, preferring to look at his phone
- Guy (9/5): -
- Tina (10/5): -
- Claudine (1/5): I wouldn't recommend! - Right in the centre of Marlborough. This was a very disappointing and uncomfortable experience. We didn't end up staying after viewing a room in the hotel. The room was unkept, smelled bad, and the downstairs pub had exposed wires hanging from the ceiling. This was dismissed as “maintenance.” After I raised a complaint, the landlord called me directly, was sarcastic and unhelpful, and even laughed when I said I would leave a negative review.
- Grigor (10/5): -
- Neil (10/5): - Great pub , quite lively so if you are looking to get to sleep early it would probably not be ideal for you , staff were excellent, service great and a good selection of ale
- Dean (6/5): -
- IsabeI (5/5): Convenient location for us to meet up with our family in Avebury. So we needed just a base. - We didn’t have breakfast. Location central to town. Fairly easy parking near hotel which was good. Bed was comfortable There was a very noisy band playing on Saturday night which kept us awake. Our bathroom smelt and finally the toilet blocked on our last morning and nearly overflowed. There was no-one around to tell. The TV was not working properly . There was no food available in the evening.Access to hotel tricky in the dark as front door locked.
- Carlene (9/5): The management and staff make this hotel/pub - Management and staff are very accommodating. Fun pub and hotel.
Central -excellent location but no car park.
Rooms are clean, tidy and spacious.
Great value hotel. No parking
- livingstone (9/5): Had a great stay - The area was great. Lots of restaurants and bars Nothing
- Ann (8/5): Great location - The staff were great, the bar had an excellent choice of draft beers.
Rooms clean enough,spacious,sadly no lift,
Could be difficult for someone with a disability,
Entertainment was excellent.
The views outside our room were great,we could see at Mary's church, and at the top of town.
So we walked out of the hotel straight onto the main street, which was great
Tea coffee and a kettle in your room. Beds need updating,a little decoration needed.
It's rated as a three star,,
The fact is no lift onsite, not suitable for disabled people.
- Liku (1/5): Non - No friends or make us world come nothing
- Hellen (9/5): -
- Erik (8/5): Kort maar krachtig en goed. - Goede bedden, ruime kamers, hygiënisch. Gehorig. Verkeer luid langs de ramen.
- Andréa (9/5): Leuke avond door gebracht in de pub en daarna heerlijk boven geslapen. - Ligt lekker centraal en boven een leuke pub.
- David (9/5): - Getting a survey in the early morning!
- Sheehan (10/5): -
- William (10/5): -
- Alex (5/5): About right for the money. Comfortable (even if the shared loo was a bit retro). Nice staff. - Breakfast was excellent. Not included, which actually makes them more expensive than the Castle & Ball over the road once you add that in, but it was very good. Location was great. Nice bar. Our night was interrupted by noisy guest shouting and making lots of noise into the wee small hours. While not the Inn’s fault (and they were quick to refund me the money when one of our party vacated, and were very polite), there was also no recourse. No night porter or number to call.
- Kevin (8/5): Great weekend chilling from work - In the centre of the town close to everything we needed The room was ok but nowhere to sit other than on the bed and for the price I would have thought breakfast should have been included
- Simon (8/5): Would come again - great value for money. - Location is perfect, direct in the town centre; the building itself is very impressive, full of character and very different to those "sterile" hotels in big chains, and the staff were refreshingly friendly and welcoming. Feels very genuine and personal and an excellent way to experience Marlborough. No dedicated parking; free parking is available but needs coordination and good timing to avoid fines.
- Conor (10/5): -
- Brian (8/5): - Clean simple room Hallway carpets a bit grubby
- Margaret (8/5): -
- Diana (7/5): Mostly positive. - Breakfast good value and pleasant service There was noise at night from an outside open area. A pleasant and friendly hotel/ pub, but noisy at night. Our bicycles were safely accommodated.
- Rodney (9/5): Friendly, welcoming hosts in attractive historic hotel. - The staff particularly Kim were very helpful and friendly, good sized room with nice decor and great shower, very comfy bed, centrally located in lovely town, beautiful old buildings. Need parking or info as to its availability in town.
- NICK (8/5): They were pleased - We didn’t stay there but booked it for friends.
- Isadora (5/5): Functional and clean… I would check for bands playing before booking! - The location is great. The place was nice and clean and staff were friendly. The rooms are good value for money and functional. There was a live band right underneath our room… we usually wouldn’t mind but had come to Marlborough for some relaxation .. I think a heads up would’ve been good as we probably wouldn’t of stayed had we known as it was so loud it was vibrating the floors 😂
Just a small suggestion also to put some drinking glasses in the rooms :)
- Michael (9/5): Embrace the entertainment on band nights and it will be hard to find a better place to stay at this price. - Great location, large comfortable rooms(we had the King room). Lovely view across to the church and despite some anxiousness arising from previous reviews the rooms were very quiet( we did stay to watch Scapegoat on the Saturday who were excellent). All good
- Vicky (9/5): -
- Alison (8/5): - Great location in the centre of Marlborough, easy to park, lively bar, pretty courtyard, very comfortable and clean bedroom and ensuite, friendly staff, good value for money
- Tom (7/5): - Stayed 1 night on a cycling trip. They have a good system for keeping your bike safe overnight, so I'd recommend it to other cyclists looking to stay in Marlborough. Rooms were clean & comfy and you are very close to shops and restaurants. Be aware they do have love music at the bar on Friday and weekends till ~23:30 so if you're planning an early start then next day factor that it.
- Richard (8/5): If you like staying in a pub- this place is the genuine deal - The Bear is a fantastic pub stay, in the traditional sense (these kind of places are fast disappearing unfortunately). In a historic building, there’s a lively bar downstairs for locals (and residents) and a few bedrooms above. “Bear” the pub dog lazily guards the front door by lying in the middle of the floor. Great location in the centre of town, check in very easy, rooms are clean and comfy, excellent value breakfast in the cafe in the building’s beer garden out back. This is a pub- be prepared, it’s a little less smart than a hotel!
- Paul (8/5): -
- Catalin (8/5): -
- James (8/5): Very good - Good location and price point. Comfortable clean room with shared bathroom. The only real negative was very noisy garden bar late into the night with bad language and swearing. Finally got to sleep about 1:00 a.m.
- Mike (8/5): Very good -
- Jane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (5/5): Passable - Location Very noisy on weekends and the cleaning is not done daily.
- Stephen (8/5): Very good - Very helpful staff.
- Lindsay (6/5): Basic rooms with limited facilities in good location for Malmesbury town. - Great location, good size rooms, clean and comfortable bed with large tv and tea & coffee making facilities in the room. Very dated, only had soap provided, lock on door seemed flimsy, decor needs attention. No air con, but small Fan provided. Curtains very thin so woke up at sunrise. Expensive considering the condition of the rooms.
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Darren (10/5): Exceptional -
- Poynter (8/5): Good. - Breakfast 4 star. First impressions room smelt of smoke
- Haydn (7/5): Fairly good price and brilliant location. - Brilliant location- some of the staff were very friendly- the cafe attached to the place did a good breakfast. Room was quite small for a superior room I thought- it was also very hot in there with no aircon and a limited opening window but we were given a fan after we asked the right person.....
- Matthew (9/5): Superb - I always appreciate a B&B over a pub and this one had a fine ale selection as well as a fantastic breakfast. I travelled by bicycle and the landlord allowed the bicycle to be safely locked away in the function room. Great location in the very picturesque town of Marlborough.
- Kevin (1/5): Bad - Comfy bed, loads of pillows Tired and broken furniture. TV didn't work. Window wouldn't shut properly. Decor reminiscent of a 70s boarding house. Noisy outdoor drinkers. Bass from speakers audible. Essentially the room doesn't equate the price charge! So many other better choices for the same price in the town.
They've got their pub running well as it's a popular locals pub. But the accommodation needs an overhaul.
- Ian (7/5): Good -
- Will (8/5): Very good -
- Carol (5/5): Passable - OK room Emails and phone calls went un answered, therefore room was not really suitable for us. Room on top floor above a noisy music venue.
- Rachel (1/5): Bad -
- Jeynes (8/5): Very good - Good breakfast External shower/wc.
- Veronique (8/5): Very good - Easy found in town Didn’t realise shred facilities
Only one toilet roll in loo
- James (8/5): Very good - Good for what it is, nice, clean etc Windows need fixing as they are not closing properly and they have not do for along time. The Bands for the live music 😅 it was like watching the first round of X factor
- Muhammad (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rebecca (8/5): Very good -
- Paul (4/5): Old historic hotel, showing its age - Had lamb shanks for dinner and they were excellent Room was a bit shabby
- Dave (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alec (8/5): Very good -
- Joel (9/5): Superb -
- Neil (8/5): Very good -
- David (10/5): Amazing stop over, great pub and rooms - Location great, room lovely, price for one night very reasonable and staff amazing. Nothing
- Alison (7/5): Confortable and convenient. - Great location and some nice views over the countryside as it’s quite a tall building. Bed very comfortable and the bathroom looked recently refurbished. 11am check out is very civilised. Some of the decor was a bit tired and there was a slightly annoying security light in the room which couldn’t be turned off. Good thing I had an eye mask!
- Sonia (8/5): Very good -
- Chris (8/5): Nice hotel, nice town. Would stay again. - It had charm and character and the rooms were warm clean comfortable with a nice decor. Nice warm shower. There were cooked breakfast and limited evening meal options.
We chose some home made curries one evening and they were tasty, good value and contained good quality ingredients.
I had read some previous reviews about loud live music on a weekend, but these were not an issue on our mid week stay. We could hear some background sounds from the pub from our room, including a ukelele group but this wasn’t any bother to us.
I guess if you don’t like late loud music on a weekend, maybe you should make some suitable enquiries before booking here.
The staff were polite, cheerful and helpful.
We requested a hair dryer and one was left for us to borrow.
The location was good for access to the town, you may get traffic noise in the day as we had single glazed period windows, yet it was quiet during the night, yet you may hear the church bell chiming the hour, which we found to be pleasant.
Ample tea and coffee making facilities in room ,with biscuits.
Overall experience was better than we anticipated. Shame it doesn’t have car parking, so booked a place on a specialised parking website, to make things easier than trying to work around the various parking rules and regs in the town.
You can park temporarily, or, overnight in ‘The Parade’ by the hotel to unload/load though, if there are any spaces.
We didn’t like the soft mattress, but that’s personal preference.
- Steve (8/5): Good location. - Good location The ceiling fire alarm green fluorescent light cover was taped in place and in the middle of the night feel off. This disturbed our sleep for the rest of the night.
- Susan (8/5): Very enjoyable. Big noisy if you were in the room over the bar. Friendly staff, great breakfast - The location was perfect The decor was a little bit tired in the bathroom
- Smith (10/5): every nice - good
- Sarah (8/5): Very good -
- Mitchell (6/5): Pleasant - The location The room was very cold, and even with the small radiator heater on, the room did not really get warm. I did stay in December though.
- Samuel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Min (9/5): We have a relaxing and comfort stay. - The owner is very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay and felt like at home. There are not so many resturants in the town.
- Alex (8/5): Very good -
- Coral (5/5): Comfy bed, but very noisy - Comfy bed, nice clean shower The pub downstairs closed at 11pm, but the music was very loud and wasn't switched off at closing time. We could hear it theough the floor. Upstairs it sounded like a children's play area, very loud and sounded like people running around. And in the morning at 7am the lorry came to collect/drop off the beer barrels. It was a loud place and not really the best place to have accommodation.
- Pam (7/5): Good -
- Hawkins (6/5): Loud music - Location, cost, towels and room size. Live music was very loud in the room, carried on until midnight. Then music started with breakfast at 8am.
- Nigel (5/5): If planning to stay at this pub, check when the bands are on!! - Location great in the centre of Marlborough. Rock band playing till midnight, so loud I felt I was on stage with them. No warning this was going to happen.
- Martin (8/5): Very good atmosphere. Nice bar with live music. Comfortable bed - Great location. Didn't have breakfast Not ensuite..Everything else we were happy with
- Bird (10/5): Exceptional - Staff were great, and do was the bear. Also, there was a live band
- Emma (1/5): Bad - Location Live music until past midnight directly underneath our bedroom which wasn’t made clear at check in. The area was then cleared (loudly) to be set up for use the following day until 130 am, keeping us awake.
There is no heating at all in the bathroom - it was freezing.
The bed is tiny. The pillows very flat.
- Khamidullina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tim (8/5): All in all a good stay - Very loud untuneful singing from the bar area below which kept us awake.
- Mike (6/5): Pleasant - the location and the bed was very comfortable there was a breeze from somewhere that made the door rattle all night
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Your (10/5): Great value for money. - Quite spacious room, comfy bed. I would say great value for money. Room was a bit cold when I arrived, it took a while to heat up once the heater was turned on.
- Marylyn (10/5): Terrific value for money - Friendly busy pub.
- Gaelle (6/5): So so - In the town center Derelict
Lots of stairs, narrow, not easy with suitcases
Smelly kitchen throughout
Breakfast room not appealing
No hair dryer
Drawers falling apart
- Lesley (8/5): Basic room but very comfortable - Perfect location for visiting the town
- Jack (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jeff (10/5): Exceptional -
