Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly staff and all the basic necessities for an overnight stay on an Iceland road trip.
- Tim (6/5): - Strange accommodations
Pictures on line misleading
A disappointment
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The gentleman who checked us in was extremely nice. Our beds were clean and the room itself was overall clean. The bathroom however, specifically the shower was disgusting. The shower curtain was like paper and completely brown on the bottom. The shower floor was dirty, we wore our sandals we brought for the geothermal baths to shower. And the bathroom floor mat is an actual bath mat, not a towel that most hotels use that gets washed after a hotel guests stay. So it did not look like it had ever been washed or cleaned. Don’t expect to eat breakfast. It’s self serve and consisted of a few boxes of already opened cereal boxes and bread bags, which who knows how long the cereal has been sitting there and who’s hands have been in it. Also, there’s a small mini fridge with some cold cuts, cheese and cucumbers, milk and juice and some apples and oranges. But again the cold cut meat was in an open package, not wrapped and who knows how long things have been open for and who’s hands have touched what. My husband made a coffee to go, and we didn’t bother eating breakfast.
- Ellen (8/5): Quiet location. Good for 1 night. - Located in a very rural, beautiful, quiet area by the main road, the hotel served the purpose, namely: of getting a good night´s sleep. Room and breakfast simple. Did not use the facilities in the main building due to late arrival. The man in the reception showed the room and the self service breakfast upon arrival. Check-out by leaving key in the door. Fine for 1 night to or from the Westfjords.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Simpel, prima overnachting gehad. Ontbijt had wat verzorgder mogen zijn. Boter was op veel lege potje zoetwaar.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean room. Comfortable bed. Restaurant on site. Beer and pool table.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Terrible would like a refund, walls paper thin could hear every noise no staff and poor breakfast
- Toronto (8/5): - Not too bad for one night staying. It is just at roadside.
- Jerome (8/5): okayish - Really good location, correct accommodation, but super cold ; even in summer.
- KateU (6/5): - The views were fantastic to the front of the property, the accommodation was basic, one nighter OK, noise could be an issue in the building, having a common room in the middle with four rooms off. The breakfast was a help yourself,in the fridge & cupboard, so you could eat anytime that suited yourself. I would not call it a Hotel but a hostel type of stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property was in a beautiful location with amazing surroundings. The room was nice and spacious and we had a great night's stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Private bathroom, common area is where breakfast is "served" if you add it in, so very convenient.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Suggest not to stay during winter - Hotel owner was not around when we arrive around 7 plus evening time.we called him with the number provided at the hotel door and he picked up and gave clear instruction.
However we did not get to see the hotel owner at all during the whole night.there was no bread for breakfast and milk was spoilt. We left the hotel room without seeing the hotel owner at all. I do not know whether it is necessary but amenities are lacking.
- Linda (10/5): - This place exceeded my expectations for the price we paid. The room and bathroom were clean, and we had a very nice view of the mountains. The walls are thin, so you hear the coffee machine running in the morning. (There is a coffee machine and kettle in the common area.) This is a great location to stop overnight before you go into the West Fjords. The drive here and back into Budardalur was also very scenic.
- Allison (10/5): 100% YES! This place is great! - This place was fabulous. The employees were so helpful and the food in their restaurant was absolutely delicious. The scenery was beautiful as well (but that's to be expected anywhere in Iceland). Definitely a great place to stop for the night.
- Qi (8/5): Nice hotel but can be better - nice and spacious room, but poor wifi and limited kitchen facility.
- Emily (8/5): On way to/from Western Fjords - We had a great stay a Ljosaland. Perfect overnight stop when traveling to or from the Western Fjords. The restaurant was nice and there is even a pool table to enjoy, listen to music, and have a drink. Upon check in, we were offered some local tourist information including directions to a nearby hot spring. Room was adequate for our needs. The TV didn't work but we really weren't there for that so it wasn't a big deal.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good place to stay - The staff was lovely. They showed me around and offered good advice for things to see in the area. The rooms were large with plenty of space. The walls were a bit thin, and the breakfast room is a central room between 4 bedrooms. Breakfast is some cheese slices, meat slices, a couple choices of cereal, juice, coffee, bread and spreads. If you're like me and don't eat breads and grains then I would suggest skipping it. I tried the frosted flakes and found that the milk was sour. Luckily, there was another jug, but it kinda turned me off. The restaurant for dinner is right next door, it was good and I liked that it was so close.
- colleen (10/5): very cool little hotel - this place was very cool. the couple who runs it go out of their way to make you feel at home. I left something very important to me in the room and they took the time to mail it to a location that ill be later on in the week. the view is beautiful (like the rest of iceland) and be sure not to miss the hot pot a little down the road.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Comfortable rooms, great staff and great food. Location to other things was ok.
- Ingibjörg (6/5): - All was very clean but the breakfast was very sparse and all the utensils were plastic. I would stay again but I would not buy breakfast.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Loved the location. Bedroom was great. Amenities were typical but still appreciated.
- Michael (10/5): Good place for an overnight rest. - Perfect stop between Reykjavik and Isafjordur. Excellent restaurant and convenient breakfast. Beautiful scenery.
- Stefanie (8/5): - Location at the base of an impressive mountain was fantastic. Nice that there is a restaurant on premise, a remote area. Charming family run vibe.
- Ann (6/5): - Hotel was a little off the beaten path and we had to share a living room space (which no one used) with everyone else. Some of the stuff seemed a little old, but was usable. The best thing about this hotel was that they honestly served the best burger you will ever eat. It was incredible. I’m not sure I would recommend this hotel to a friend.
- John (10/5): Great place to stay - Great spot to stay in a rather rural part of Iceland. The staff there were very friendly and helpful. We saw the northern lights there! I like that the rooms have a common area too with couches and a table to hang out at. There’s a pool table and the bar is open till 11.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Ljosaland review - Do not go there, it's in the middle of nowhere and seems to be staffed by student volunteers who do not know what they are doing.
- Edward (10/5): Cozy rooms with generous hospitality - At this cozy country hotel the hospitality was friendly and generous! They run a nice restaurant where we played pool and drank beer, and the owner even let us close up the place. Rooms were spacious with a large common room and self service breakfast. Excellent coffee too! The host suggested many local attractions for our journey. Make this a stop on your way north!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Amateur show - Sorry, these people do not know how to run a decent hotel. Looks like it was built in the 70's and they have not changed a thing since then.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent place to stay, with very good restaurant - From the outside, Hotel Ljosaland may look like an average place. Once inside though, one look out your windows will show you that it's way more than average. We had views across wide open hayfields to the ocean beyond, and out our back windows, a mountain with grazing sheep. Our room was spotlessly clean and comfy.
The host was very friendly, and offered a number of suggestions of interesting places we might like to visit.
The on-site restaurant has exceptional views, prompt friendly service, and excellent food, (one of the best meals we had in all of Iceland!).
- kathleen (10/5): NE Fjords of Iceland - The rooms were immaculate! Food was great! We did not get their breakfast as it was too pricey for very little food! Would stay there in a heartbeat!
- Andrew (8/5): Nice hotel. - Don't be fooled by the roadside resturant and minimalist appearance of the hotel building. Rooms are nice. Good breakfast that is "do it yourself" but is on par with the rest of iceland. Resturant has great food for dinner as well.
- olga (6/5): Overpiced Motel. - Very nice surrounding area. People at the hotel are helpful. Room had the smell that somebody was smoking in it. Relatively clean but not comfortable. Also room is attached to the hall with small kitchen area. So no way to have a nap if someone making snack ....very loud. It is ok you can stay in this hotel if you have to. But it is over priced for sure.
- David (8/5): On the way - OK place. Good location. Food good.
- Anthony (8/5): Clean and pleasant hotel. Friendly staff. - Clean and pleasant room with a great sitting area outside for two rooms to use. Outside was not indicative of the toom. Quite a surprise. Nice staff and good food at the restaurant.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Best Hotel in the area - Awesome place to stay!! The north west of Iceland is very remote so to find a nice little place like this was very nice! The inside of the restaurant area was very cool and the owner will cook you dinner and it is all fantastic!! The rooms are really clean and it's probably the best place to stay out in that area!! I'd definitely stay here again!!!
- T (8/5): Easy to find. Great shower and beds. V clean - The room was great. It would be helpful if the host had instructions in the communal area about how to use the coffee machine and where to wash dishes. There was lots of food in this area but it was unclear if it was for public consumption or not.
Photos on web site of a hot tub are v misleading! There isn't one.
- Andrew (8/5): - booked this as a last resort, very small, no front desk, they do have a nice place to eat. they don't really answer the phone. it is run by two young people who may be in over their head.
room is big and clean, bathroom is private and very nice. a great value. people are extremely nice.
breakfast is really not a lot. i would stay here again
- Verified traveler (10/5): Clean and nice hotel - The room was clean, and there are small fridge, toaster, forks, dishes, and spoons for small breakfast. They are very welcoming people. We really enjoyed staying at this hotel.
- Roger (10/5): Memorable stay - Rooms were comfortable and cosy. Despite looking somewhat dated, it still offered a pleasant, homey feel to it. Service was excellent and the hosts did everything to the best of their abilities. Food was delectable and I would highly recommend to all guests
- Anastasia (10/5): Nice Room, Fun Staff - After a long drive I was happy to arrive at the hotel and be greeted by Ben, who took my dinner order so I could eat as soon as I'd had a shower. The room was clean and warm, and the bed was very comfortable. I visited in late September, and while there were a couple of other (very nice) guests, the place was pleasantly isolated and quiet.
I enjoyed my dinner and had a lovely conversation with Ben - would have liked to have stayed up if I hadn't been so tired.
Breakfast was the standard breads, eggs, etc., with good coffee and the bonus of a waffle maker.
I am hoping I am able to go back to Iceland in the spring or summer and would definitely stay here again as it seems like this would be a relatively peaceful hotel even in the busy season.
- Reed (2/5): Never Again - Room was unexceptable. Toilet lid broken owner tried to double charge.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Hotel Ljosaland - Very clean, spartan appearance like most places in Iceland. Good location for northern lights at the right time of year. Very friendly hostess from Poland. Would spend time here again if we go back to Iceland. Definitely recommend this hotel.
- Jeremy (10/5): Great Value & Great Dinner - Excellent dinner at Restaurant part of hotel. Has showers as part of room, which is not commonly the case in Iceland. Also close to a natural hot spring pool just south of hotel. Only thing not convenient for gas or groceries.
- Barrett (8/5): Magical location, friendly staff, comfortable room - We were greeting by a super friendly staff. The hotel is simple, but a perfect play to stop on the way up to the West Fjords. The dinner was great too! Food is expensive in Iceland in general, but this felt well worth the price tag. I recommend stopping by the public natural hot spring at the Hotel Edda down the road. I would stay again in a heartbeat!
- Scott (8/5): Nice time at hotel - Wife and I came here at the end of a road trip around the island. Had a great time and hotel was just what we needed.
- s (8/5): Nice hotel, out of the way - Nice hotel, out of the way...remote location. Very friendly staff. Comfortable and clean rooms! Excellent showers
- Phillip (10/5): Worth the stay considering the alternatives! - Great owner/host. Great meals. Cozy.
- Justin (10/5): Great little hotel. - After 8 nights in Iceland in 7 different hotels we had the best time here. The dinner we had was amazing, and the price was also very reasonable. The hotel owner was very friendly and gave us great information to continue our exploration. The rooms are simple, but spacious. The restaurant /bar is very nice, trust me it doesn't look like much on the outside, but don't judge a book by its cover!
