• Dheeresh (8/5): Overall very good value - Great location, with a car park nearby. Very comfortable bed in a clean and reasonably spacious room. A good sized bathroom with an easy to work shower and a large bath. Had a full English on the last morning which is extra but very delicious and freshly cooked. Overall very good value. When we arrived, two people in our 70s, we were welcomed, but the room was on the top floor and no offer of help with our bags, just directed up the stairs. The second day, we'd run out of milk etc, but because there was only one person on duty, she couldn't bring us what we needed. She did later, but by then we'd already gone out to get tea elsewhere... the staff were perfectly friendly, however.

• Colin (9/5): Ideal location. - We were greeted with big smiles. The staff were very helpful and informative. We had drinks and dinner at The Ship Inn, and all was excellent. Generally the restaurant seemed very popular. There wasn't really anything that we outright didn't like. Perhaps a minor issue was the small size of our room. It would've been best suited as a single room. That said, it was comfortable and cozy - especially the bed.

• Eva (5/5): Beetje teleurgesteld. - Goede ligging. Vlot bereikbaar te voet vanuit station. Lekker eten in de pub. Handdoeken werden niet verschoond, handen/ douchegel niet aangevuld of afwezig, bed niet opgemaakt, vuile glazen/ tassen niet vervangen, housekeeping niet langsgeweest (2 nachten verbleven). Het personeel van de pub was zeer vriendelijk en heeft ons verder geholpen. De matras was heel hard, de kamer lag op bovenste verdieping zonder airco en het raam kon maar op een kleine kier gezet worden maw zeer warm in de zomer. Er was 's avonds straatlawaai van de pub.

• Monica (5/5): It was fine for a one-night stay, but we wouldn’t return for a longer stay, especially during summer - Great location in Rye Good value for money The room was clean Service was disappointing. We arrived around 6pm, although check-in is at 3pm, and our room wasn’t ready. There was no prior communication (no email or call), and no apology or gesture while we waited with two kids. Even when the room was ready, no one informed us—we had to ask again. No hairdryer in the room Mattresses were quite uncomfortable (even with a topper) Strong smell of cleaning products on arrival Windows couldn’t really be left open due to pigeons The hotel closes at 8pm, and there was no one present at check-out—we had to leave the key in a box

If you are lucky to get a space park your car for free on the main road at the rear of the property during your stay. They don't do breakfast on weekdays which was not clear on booking. However plenty of local breakfast options. Stayed for 2 nights and missed coming into our room for a quick spruce up and water and tea replacement. Shower door was broken.

• Kiney (6/5): Comfortable but needs attention. - The bed was incredibly comfortable and the room and linen clean and good quality. The staff were very friendly for the most part. There was black mould on the window, corner of the bedroom and in the shower. I believe it is under new management and the website is not up to date. The menus certainly aren’t. I booked in for a couple of nights as they seemed to have quite good gluten free options . The actual current menu had very little I could have and the options diminished daily. Breakfast was only available on Saturday and Sunday (glad I didn’t include it) and on Saturday I was pretty much left without any service or attention once my main course had been delivered. I had to go and find someone to get the bill and my plates were still there and no one had checked if I wanted desert or if anything was ok. The larger party next to me (known to staff) were very well attended. Saturday (after they opened half an hour late. I ordered a gluten free breakfast and got the works including toast. The following day the only meat I got was one rasher of bacon and there was no toast. Not a word was said and when I raised the issue I got a rather brushed off apology was given. I believe the new management needs to decide if they are a pub or a hotel. The bar was closed by 9pm on Sunday. The staff were mostly really nice, I suspect they are not to blame here. The room was also clean and comfortable but the mould needs addressing as a matter of urgency.

The manager was a really nice guy and the bar staff were really friendly. The food was exceptional, if you go have the steak, best steak ever! It was really nice to he able to come down and have a drink in the evening because the atmosphere was lovely and the pub is really beautiful inside. The location is perfect, you are 5 minutes walk from everything in Rye. Would highly recommend Not applicable

• donna (7/5): Great location, friendly staff, expensive but in keeping with the rest of Rye, pot luck parking - It is a nice pub with adequate rooms, friendly staff. It was expensive (we stayed in The Grand in Brighton the weekend before and got a fabulous room for about $70 less!) the bathroom has a fair bit of black mildew in the tiles. Maybe the rooms could also do with a lick of paint. Staff were very nice but they didn't really tell us anything. What time the doors locked, whether breakfast was included - they just sort of handed over the key and said have a nice stay (no biggie but possibly could have felt a bit more welcoming if they had given us this info)

• Elen (6/5): Pleasant stay but no breakfast available - The bed was comfortable and the bedroom and bathroom were clean. We were able to leave our bags behind the bar after we checked out. The location was very good. We felt misled as there wasn't any breakfast served, despite the posting on Booking.com offering breakfast daily from 8:00-10:00 with photos shown. Our room was quite hot at night (in April) with windows open and radiators off.

• Sue (8/5): Great location - Location is great and my room was a great size. The staff were on the whole very lovely. My daughters’ room was tiny and tricky for two people to navigate! Check in was abrupt and I felt like I was getting in the way of the service in the pub.

It was only 9:00 pm.

They have a problem with birds getting in so they have to restrict how much the window opens which is fair. Very charming historic vibe. An excellent selection of tea and coffee in the room. A decent bathroom with strong water pressure and hot water. Thank you for honoring my request for a room with a bath tub.

• Rita (8/5): Our favourite place to stay in Rye - We love staying here. It’s a lovely pub and great location. Sadly we could not have breakfast as the breakfast chef was unwell. This was quite disappointing as we always look forward to the breakfast there but these things happen. The staff were very apologetic. Hopefully all ok next time we stay. Comfortable room, great location, friendly and helpful staff.
• Michael (2/5): - Windows were disgusting, only opened a tiny bit and couldnt see out becuase of condensation. Lighting was horrible and bright, gave me a headache. Walls were thin so couldn't get to sleep. Hair found in bed and in shower. Shower didn't drain. Didn't feel looked after at all.
• Hazel (6/5): Very Good Stay Overall with Minor Comfort Issues - The location was excellent. The room was quite clean, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room heating was not sufficient for me personally, but when I asked for an extra heater, they provided one immediately, which I appreciated. However, the bed was very squeaky, and we woke up every time we turned during the night. There was also an intermittent noise throughout the night coming from what sounded like a boiler or heating system. The corridor lights stay on all night and the light comes into the room from under the door, so if you are sensitive to light, you may find it difficult to sleep.
• Bridget (9/5): It was for my husbands birthday and we always come for the Rye scallop festival and we are never disappointed thank you - We have stayed at the ship many many times and always like it. The water is hot and the food always delicious especially the Thai curry both mussels they were out of this world.

• Peter (9/5): Stay in Rye - Friendly staff. Comfortable bed and clean linen. Lovely fluffy towels and good shower gel. Room was clean and well appointed. Pillows a bit too soft. Some noise from the street, not terrible but heard the bins being emptied.

The location is very central but quiet. The vibe in the bar was friendly and welcoming. My room was a little cold overnight. It didn’t spoil my stay -had I stayed longer I’d have got another blanket.

• Sarah (7/5): Lovely pub in the centre of Rye. Staff were helpful and food great. - Great location, convenient for town and local area. The room was comfortable and generally clean but we felt it could do with a deep clean, there was mould on the window and on tiles in the bathroom. This didn’t have a detrimental effect on our overall experience though.
• Josh (5/5): The brunette who received us needs to be retrained or replaced. - Location excellent, bed was decent. Bad staff attitude (particularly this one woman who runs the bar who really did not welcome us when we got there and had a bad attitude the whole way through our stay). She put us in a room above the kitchen, which made it loud and very smelly in the bathroom from all the fried food. On top of that, there was a loud generator nearby that would come on and off all the time and was extremely annoying during the night while trying to sleep. Lastly, we requested multiple times for extra pillows, and they could not supply them. This made laying on the bed very uncomfortable (as there was also no seating or a proper desk in the room). Overall, a very subpar stay.
• Karoline (7/5): Comfy room with good breakfast but otherwise eat and drink elsewhere - The room was big and very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. The manager and staff who served lunch were awful. It took over forty minutes for a bowl of soup to arrive, no apology or attempt to make it better - and a generally rude demeanor and attitude from the manager. Enough to sour the whole trip.
