Guest Reviews
- Alyson (10/5): - An amazing gem! The perfect spot to relax after a busy day taking in all that Marrakesh has to offer. Allan and his team are superb and go out of their way to look after you. We were sad to leave such a beautiful place. Thank you so much for making our trip so special
- Joel (8/5): - Convenient location in the Medina, not reachable by car and can’t be hard to find at first. Room was cute, great value.
- James (10/5): - Property well maintained with excellent staff. Clean and comfortable room. In a very convenient location near Medina. We would spend time there again in the future.
- Dallas (10/5): - Staff was so so so nice! Breakfast was very good! I would recommend. Continently located. Room was clean.
- Sarah (10/5): Perfcef, just perfect - Absolutely perfect. Amazing service and staff. Felt like being at a family friend's. For anyone visiting I would recommend a Riad, and definitely Riad Zohar! The twin room was a great size, clean and cool, with Air Con but only used it once. The pool and roof top terrace were great after a hot day out. The hosts are lovely and all the staff attentive. 10/10!
- Natalie (10/5): - We had a lovely stay at Riad El Zohar - Allan & his team could not do enough for us!
Will definitely be back at some point in the future!
- tanya (10/5): - This Riad is a real gem - we were looked after so well and the building was beautiful with everything we could need. The staff are all friendly and attentive, and Allan was very approachable and helpful the whole stay. The food was amazing and the location is really central to everything we needed. The rooftop was a real bonus too - especially for relaxing evenings. Highly recommend.
- Geoff (10/5): - The staff at Riad El Zohar are exceptional. The checkin lady helped us select safe and reasonable cost restaurants, took us to a spice shop (with no commercial links to the Riad) and was very friendly, great with information.. The after hours staff member (Radi) was also exceptional. He arranged bus tickets for my wife and I to Essouira, including a man with trolley to carry our luggage to the taxi pickup.
Travelers must accept that because this Riad is in the old town (Medina) which is a labirinth of narrow laneways, it is a reasonable walk to the Riad especially if pulling luggage.
The Guest Information booklet is comprehensive and informative. Excellent info for folks new to Marrakech.
My only request for improvement is that while Allan (the owner) has listed his UK Whatsapp contact details, I sent a couple of messages to him via Whatsapp but received no replies.
I would highly recommend this Riad.
- Gregory (10/5): - Nice quiet oasis in the middle of the Medina.
Recommendations for restaurants were excellent.
Breakfast was good.
Highly recommend the airport pick up and porter.
- Jennifer Jean Campbell (10/5): - Beautiful clean Road, very close to
- Wendy (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay at Riad El Zohar! The riad is ideally situated within the Medina yet is a quiet, atmospheric retreat. The staff made our visit to Marrakech hassle free and fascinating through helping with transfers and providing great recommendations. Thanks to all.
- Kirsty (10/5): Thoughtful and personal hosts. - Only 2 nights but I have recommended this already to a friend who has also booked.
Lovely team who work to make sure you are comfortable. Amazing food for breakfast, no options but none needed as it was delicious, homemade and plentiful. Right in the middle of the medina, don’t refuse the hotel pick up from the airport, you may never find the riad! We got lost a lot but it was part of the experience and anyone we asked, helped. It was peaceful within but straight into the chaos of the medina once you walked a few minutes. We’d come back for sure.
- James (10/5): - The staff was excellent, especially Erradi and Morad. This is a small quiet boutique hotel very close to the center of Marrakech but tucked away in a quiet alley/walkways inside the medina. We enjoyed a beer or glass of wine each evening after shopping or touring on the rooftop. We enjoyed dinner there our first night after a day of travel. Allan was very helpful in all of his responses to our inquires.
- James (10/5): Great place to stay in medina - Wonderful place to stay in the medina. Very attentive staff and super relaxed. Great breakfast. Also very comfortable. Would return.
- Gwyn (8/5): - Allan and his team were fantastic hosts.
- lesley (10/5): - I cannot recommend this Riad enough. Allan, Malika & all the staff are exceptional. They make a wonderful team. Nothing was too much trouble. Allan showed us around Marrakech & how to navigate our way around the alleys & was full of really helpfull tips & info. He even took time to take us to his favourite spice shop where we purchased amazing spices.
The Riad itself is beautiful & very well situated in the centre of everything. It is a calming oasis amongst the hustle & bustle of the city. Our room was lovely with an amazing bathroom. The breakfast is very good & there is a constant supply of tea, coffee & mint tea if you want it anytime. There is also a beautiful roof terrace you can enjoy.
If you book this Riad you will not be disappointed. We had a wonderful 3 nights stay here & would definitely return.
Many thanks to Allan. Malika & all the staff for making our stay such a special one
- Marie (10/5): We had a brilliant time - We had a lovely stay at this Riad. It’s very quiet and clean. The staff are lovely and unfortunately I can’t remember the guys name who works night but he is very helpful. My advice would be to read the guest guide when you arrive as there so many helpful tips in there. I would also recommend asking for transfers to and from the airport as that was very well organised. Breakfast were great , I wish we had of tried an evening meal but unfortunately we didn’t have enough time. Thanks again to all the staff.
- Barbara (10/5): - Our stay at El Zohar was wonderful. All the staff were fabulous to us! We missed meeting Allan but hope there will be another time iin sha' allah.
- Sally (10/5): - Nice, comfortable accommodation, friendly staff. A little bit out of the way, but quiet - a plus in our eyes...3 days is long enough
- Lisa (8/5): - Our stay in our Riad was amazing, the best meal we had during our whole day. The staff were very helpful and friendly. There was always someone who spoke English, which was helpful. Breakfast was lovely. The accommodations were clean and they were very accommodating. My only struggle was that when we returned at night, it was hard to find our way back to our door. We did feel unsafe at one point. In hindsight, we should have called the Riyadh and I know that someone would’ve come and met us. It was a true traditional, Riyadh and very pretty.
- Rachael (10/5): - We had a fantastic stay at Riad El Zohar. Its location is ideal for exploring the city—right in the heart of the Medina, yet offering a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle. The staff are incredibly welcoming and attentive, making us feel right at home. We especially loved watching the sunset from the rooftop terrace and waking up to the sound of birds in the morning. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped. We highly recommend this beautiful riad to anyone visiting Marrakech.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Kind staff and wonderful road. Twas an adventure to walk to and from the souks but we quickly remembered the correct paths and alleys. Fabulous stay and experience!
- John (10/5): - A gem in Morocco. The owners and staff could not have been more accommodating.
WONDERFUL!1
- Marie (10/5): - Hosts and staff very friendly and helpful. Lots of information available. Nothing was too much trouble. Location was great. Would definitely recommend
- Fiona (10/5): - The Riad is beautiful but some of the areas around it were severely damaged by the earthquake. Walked through/past some dodgy masonry. Allan and M are great hosts but A has not been well and we didn't really get introduced to the Riad itself nor the services they offer - which we would have used more had we known about them. Such an interesting place.
- Lizzy (10/5): - Everyone was so nice and I felt safe as a solo traveler.
- Simon (10/5): - As with all medina properties, the beauty is seen when you cross the threshold. The room was a cosy twin and the communal areas were clean and pleasant. The roof terrace was spacious and is a lovely outdoor space.
- Clare (10/5): Great Riad and team. Would return + recommend - We were looked after from the moment we arrived at the airport to the moment we left. A wonderful team at the Riad made sure we had what we needed and kept the place clean. Always had answers for our questions and were good company
- Samantha (10/5): - The staff was amazing. I would have liked them to educate me more on what they could help with recommend during my stay. I didn’t not hear about this until the end of my stay. Otherwise things were wonderful.
- Christine M (8/5): Lovely relaxing weekend - Lovely old Riad traditionally furnished - Erradi welcomed us with lots of information and showed us the quickest way to the main area. Very peaceful after the hustle and bustle of main square nice roof terrace for a beer or glass of wine at the end of the day
- Cat (10/5): The perfect location! - Riad El Zohar is the ideal place to stay in Marrakech. Allan and the staff were very helpful even before we arrived, with Allan organising a smooth airport transfer for us despite the fact that I left it very last minute to request this service!
We were welcomed warmly to the Riad by Radi who not only gave us helpful information about Marrakech but also showed us to a bureaux de change to exchange our money. This was such a thoughtful touch as the medina is a vibrant maze and it takes a little while to get your bearings.
Marrakech is a bustling, exciting city and to have somewhere so peaceful to unwind after a busy day was essential. All that while still being in the heart of things!
The Riad itself is beautiful. It has all of the little luxuries you would need from a hotel whilst also retaining the features that let you appreciate its age and history. We especially enjoyed spending time in the plunge pool, the roof terrace (amazing views of stars and sunsets from up there), and the cosy games room.
We had dinner in the Riad on our first night and I would fully recommend this as well. In terms of quality and value for money we both agreed this was the best meal we had during our stay. The breakfast is also fantastic.
I couldn't recommend Riad El Zohar enough and wouldn't look to stay anywhere else on a visit to Marrakech.
- DAVID (10/5): - We had a fantastic time staying at the Riad El Zohar and the owners Allan and Malika Crump were the perfect friendly hosts. It is an oasis and hidden gem in the centre of the Medina. Riad is charming and lots of character. Rooftop terrace is a perfect place to relax and enjoy a dinner. Transport to and from the Riad was organised by the hosts and was perfect. Staff were exceptional and the ladies prepared delicious breakfasts etc. Special thanks to Morad who went out of his way to give us an orientation tour of the local area. Thanks to Erradi for his organisation and his humour. Overall a wonderful and authentic experience at Riad El Zohar and very highly recommended.
- ANGUS (10/5): - The Riad was good and the hosts were exceptional! They were so friendly and helpful that we felt like we were staying with family. The room was comfortable and the breakfast was pretty good. The only issue we had was the aircon was not working in our room. Otherwise, our stay at the Riad was great!
- Monica (10/5): - Allen and the staff were welcoming and the breakfast was delicious. They happily accommodated when we needed to leave early in the morning and happily receive us when we got home late. I highly recommend staying here, they make it feel like home
- Mark (10/5): - Awesome location and an excellent Hotel in the true Moroccon fashion.
- Belinda Roselein (10/5): - This Riad is a beautiful property, and the owner and the staff are so gracious, helpful, engaging, and fun. It is in walking distance of everything, and easy to access. The rooftop is a wonderful asset and the pool is perfect. The dinner option is delicious. Would highly recommend this property.
- Alex (10/5): - The Riad was fantastic and Allan and his teams service went above and beyond. The meal we had for dinner in the Riad was our favourite in our time in Marrakech. Would highly recommend
- Tom (10/5): - We arrived slightly earlier than planned but were welcomed by Allan and his staff with open arms. I can't find the words to write how perfect our stay was. The property is beautiful and right in the middle of the action. Allan is very welcoming and his knowledge of the area and local recommendations are amazing. I think we ended up doing almost everything Allan recommended and had such a good time as a result. If you're looking for a place to stay in Marrakech, look no further. You've found the perfect place! We will definitely be back!
- AARON (10/5): - I truly could not have had a better stay. The property is BEAUTIFUL and so well maintained. The staff is the absolute best- so sweet and attentive. My boy, RADI is 10/10. Allan is an absolute gem and provided the best local recommendations- none of them ever disappointed. I cannot say enough good things about this property and these folks- I was a solo traveler, and they really helped in making this a perfect trip.
The property itself is very centrally located in the heart of the medina, but still maintains an extraordinary peacefulness. Walkable to the local souks, gardens and my absolute favorite little spot, Cafe Arabe. Beautifully decorated rooms surrounding a gorgeous plunge pool and a relaxing terrace. Absolutely looking forward to staying there again.
- David (10/5): Amazing riad. - Amazing riad. Really personable communicate prior to and during the stay and a warm welcome throughout. The room was perfect and well maintained. I was concerned about the location and potential of getting lost as it's so central in the medina but it was easy to navigate back to.
- Mike (6/5): - Property was nice and clean. Breakfast was good. The weather was great and a fridge in the room would’ve been nice to keep drinks cool. No option of a tv either
- Hugo (10/5): - Incredibly friendly and safe family run Riad
- SONITA (10/5): - Wonderful riad right in the centre of the Medina. Everything is very walkable.
The owners Allan and his wife are wonderful hosts who really care about their guests. When we arrived he spent over an hour explaining the area and giving recommendations. Then he walked us over to the cafe for lunch so we wouldn’t get lost!
Once you get used to the area it’s surprisingly simple to find your way around.
Do not hesitate to book this property. The staff are also very welcoming.
- Shankar (10/5): - Alan was super nice and helpful. It is a riad with some unique features. The staff were pleasant and friendly. We enjoyed our stay a lot.
- Gordon (10/5): - Allan was the perfect host.
- Sasha (10/5): - As charming as this property is, it is the personal touch of the staff that made my stay so special, and left a lasting impression on me. From the moment I entered, I was treated like family, and seated at the table for delicious Moroccan mint tea, while the charming proprietor explained the history, art, and architecture of the place, as well as to offer help with any reservations I might be looking to make. My room was lovely, with a bathroom nearly as big as the bedroom itself. The way a riad is arranged allowed me to meet some of the other guests, which I enjoyed, as well as to allow more interaction with the staff, all of whom are wonderful. The rooftop was my favorite part of the riad, so much so that I chose to have dinner up there, where I enjoyed a succulent meal provided for by the staff's excellent cooks. The riad was quiet, safe, and charming, but I can't say enough about the staff. I will always remember them. I was even escorted early in the morning to my awaiting airport transfer, just to make sure I was safe. Thank you for the fantastic riad experience.
- Edward (10/5): Magical Riad in Marrakesh! - An incredible history, warm and friendly staff, delicious food, expert advice, and a magical stay in the perfect road. Allan is an amazing host. If in Marrakesh, you. Any find a better place to stay!
- Juliette (10/5): - This was a real gem. The riad was beautiful and centrally located, the 5 course banquet was a great introduction to Moroccan cuisine and I was very well looked after by Allan who went the extra mile. I highly recommend staying here.
- Kevin (10/5): - The historic riad is beautiful and our room was clean and comfortable. The staff are welcoming and friendly. Allan is a genial host with an extensive local knowledge; arranging transfers and providing a crash course on how to best negotiate this wonderful and complex city, which included a brief walking tour
Services included booking tables for us at recommended restaurants though the meals at the riad were the best dinners we ate in the city. Also, we gained so many tips from the excellent cooking class. We really enjoyed our stay there and hope to come back soon.
- Abigail (10/5): Great Value for Money - This was a gem of a Riad in the middle of Marrakech. It was centrally located, and had such warm and welcoming staff. It was great value for money and would definitely recommend staying here!
- steven (10/5): - Riad El Zohar
We have just returned from a wonderful stay with Allan and his amazing team at Riad Al Zohar. The location, at the heart of the Medina makes it a haven of tranquility. Previous reviews and the Riads own website say it all. The Riad is charming, very comfortable and steeped in history. However, it is Allan’s vivacity, encyclopaedic knowledge and meticulous attention to detail which completes the experience. His excellent advice on restaurants and how to enjoy Marrakech was invaluable. Do ask his team to assist with any bookings. The support Team at El Zohar, particularly Eraddy, are efficient and inobtrusively attentive - thank you all.
I thoroughly recommend the breakfast and if you can draw yourself away from the plethora of excellent restaurants, do book a quiet meal (in advance) in the Riad
- Bindu (10/5): - This was our first trip to Morocco. But the team at Riad El Zohar made it such an enjoyable trip. They made us feel like we were right at home in this small Riad. Loved the security and being a part of this small family for a few days. Reminded me of our ancestor homes back from our country. I fell in love with mint tea and having such a delicious breakfast was such a treat to start our day.
While the area around the Riad is hard to figure out, we were able to safely get around and get back and forth from the plaza and the shopping.
Thank you all for a lovely time and for making our trip to Marrakech so enjoyable.
- Carmen (10/5): - Great Riad. Owner contacted me prior to trip. When I arrived, he oriented me and also accompanied me to bank. He showed me some market items. Excellent stay and beautiful room.
- Salma (10/5): - Me and my friend visited the Riad in March. Everything about the Riad was exceptional. It was clean, stylish, with excellent service. The owner of the riad Allen was there to welcome us and he is very knowledgible abot the Marrakech history. The staff was exceptionally good. Specially Radi. Breakfast was good. and service was attentive and efficient. Room itself was beatifully decorated, well equipped and comfortable.Highly recommend if you want an authentic rRiad experience.
- Stephen (10/5): - Lovely, friendly & accommodating Owners & staff. Very clean and nicely laid out. Excellent dinner & breakfast.
- Edwin (10/5): - I don't usually write reviews of ordinary hotels, but Riad El Zohar is not an ordinary place! Like most riads inside the medina, it is reached by a walk through narrow alleys off the main drag – once through the door from the street you are in a wonderful Tardis-like space. The photos underestimate the quality and beauty. The mastermind of the operation (Dr Who?) is actually Allan Crump, a most affable and friendly Londoner who has created a masterpiece -five beautiful rooms with traditional Moroccan furnishings, but with all mod cons (no TV, but excellent wifi). Allan is most helpful and a fount of knowledge about what to do and where to go. His wonderful team keep the place going – cooking, cleaning and looking after the guests. Very strongly recommended – we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
- deepa (10/5): - Amazing staff and great place to stay
- Anthony (10/5): - It was our first visit to Morocco. Riad El Zohar was a beautiful, very comfortable haven amidst the, at first glance, madness of Marrakesh. It has very quiet, generous sized rooms, thoughtfully equipped, clean and well looked after. The common areas were tranquil and the roof terrace was nicely divided into different areas and the ideal place to relax and enjoy the views whenever we returned to the Riad from our sorties.
Allan is a very friendly and welcoming host who helped us orientate ourselves in the maze of the medina. He was very knowledgeable and reliable and his suggestions of where to visit, to eat and advice re how to manage the locals was useful.
It isn't very many steps from the Riad to restaurants and the souks, 'the big square'. Allan was happy to make bookings and arrange porter/transport.
Our stay was thoroughly enjoyable and we do not hesitate to recommend Riad El Zohar. There were so many places we did not get to see and it is our intention to return.
- Sheikh (10/5): - Great little riad in the heart of the medina. Basic functions, but if you want 5 star amenities go to a large chain hotel! Clean, safe with excellent friendly staff
- Fernando (10/5): - The staff and host (Alan) are superb!!! They are very much helpful and wonderful people. Alan informed me about the culture and traditions that helped me navigate the Medina in an easier and helpful way!!!
- Fernando (10/5): - The host was amazing!!! He took the time to know you and give you helpful hints of Marrakech.
- S.T. (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay at Riad el Zohar - our home away from home in Marrakech! Alan, the Riad's owner and genial host was always kind, friendly and helpful. He showed us around town to get us acclimatised and ensure we were safe and savvy and was always nearby with further help, information and advice. He is also a font of knowledge about the local area, Marrakech and Morocco in general. His staff were wonderful too! Kind, courteous and always helpful. I cannot recommend Riad el Zohar highly enough!
- Joshua (10/5): Great allrounder! - Lovely Riad. Central location. Super friendly owner who goes out his way to help you. Great rooftop and breakfast. Would come back
- C (10/5): Loved our stay - Allan very welcoming, a slice of England in the middle of Marrakesh! His recommendations are great and the riad is stunning
- Fiona Patricia (10/5): - This a beautiful historic Riad right in the centre of Medina. The owner Allan, is really friendly and super helpful. Throughout our stay of 5 nights he was available to provide plenty of information, tips and guidance. The rest of the team are also really friendly and always happy to help out . We would like to give a special shout out to Khadija who took us food shopping and showed us how to make the most amazing Marrocan Salads and Tagine with lots of patience, considering our terrible Franglais! The rooms are beautifully decordated in a traditional Moroccon Style and we would highly recommend this Riad to anyone looking for a relaxing and truly authentic Morrocan Riad stay.
- Carolyne (10/5): A wonderfully friendly little riad - We loved our stay at El Zohar. It has only 5 rooms so you get to know fellow guests, and the owner, Allan, is friendly and informative. The staff are excellent and the breakfasts superb. The room was comfortable and well equipped, and the plunge pool is a boon when it's really hot. We will be back as soon as we get the chance.
- Gordon (10/5): - Our stay was absolutely wonderful. The evening meal we had on the lovely terrace was the best Moroccan food we had during our stay in Morocco. Allan was a great host and was flexible and kind. Highly recommend this Riad!
- Tony (10/5): - Good location in an ancient city. Host Allen is extremely friendly and helpful.
- David (10/5): Lovely riad in a perfect area for tourists. - Our stay was perfect, and we wish we could have stayed longer. Allan and his crew are delightful hosts, and we couldnt have been more pleased. We stayed about a month after the earthquake, so there were a few repairs going on in the riad, but they were very non-intrusive. The rest of the city seems to be well into the cleanup and repair phase. There are no televisions in the room, but you'll find you wont need them. Comfortable beds, and good hot showers.
We took our breakfast on the roof terrace (coffee/tea, bread, fruit, hard egg, and yogurt) each morning.
Arrange for an airport/rail station transfer with the riad before your arrival. A driver met us at the airport and brought us to a waiting porter who got us and our bags through the busy streets of the medina to the riad. After a short check-in process and lively conversation with Allan, his staff took us on a brief tour of the area, showing us easy landmarks to guide us back, and we made some dinner reservations.
The walk to the Secret Gardens and the Jemaa el-Fnaa main square were each about a 5min walk through pedestrian streets. The Saadian Tombs, and Badi and Bahia Palaces are about a 15 minute walk, completely on "pedestrian" streets, if you go the right way.
We expected Marrakech to be more like Cairo or New Delhi. Busy markets and being constantly harassed by shop keepers and restaurant touts. But it was not. A polite "No, thank you" was enough to quiet 99% of the vendors. Canxt wait to return.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I cannot say enough good things about Riad El Zohar!
My friend and I took a trip (from the USA) to Europe for another friend's wedding. While in Europe, we caught a quick flight down to Marrakech for a couple of days. I had booked Riad El Zohar online, and it was absolutely perfect.
The entire riad is warm, inviting, and absolutely gorgeous. Every room is unique and pure luxury.
The riad remains locked at all times, with entrance allowed only by ringing the bell. So we felt very safe and secure.
The riad is located in the heart of the old town, and all major sites are easily walkable. (I recommend booking the riad's airport pickup/dropoff since finding the riad can be a bit tricky given its excellent location in the heart of old town.)
Allan and his staff were absolutely amazing, even before we arrived in Morocco. We were always offered tea (or coffee), and breakfast was bountiful and delicious. Since there were few visitors to the riad during our stay (we arrived just after the earthquake), we took our meals outside of the riad. But on my next stay at Riad El Zohar, I look forward to dining at "home."
- Adriana (10/5): Wonderful Experience !!! - Allan is fantastic and his Riad is beautiful. His knowledge of Marrakech is amazing. Anything you need he can help you with , any questions he can answer. For a true Moroccan experience go and see Allan at Rad El Zohar.
- Denise (10/5): The Perfect Marrakech Host! - Allan and his team are exceptional hosts! Our trip to Marrakech would not have been as enjoyable without their hospitality and concierge services. Great knowledge of and love for the city and generosity of spirit to share with their guests. Highly recommend and planning a return visit.
- Monica (10/5): - Best experience ever. This places was amazing and provided a beautiful Moroccan experience. The room was beautiful. Lovely pool and common places. Alan the BEST HOST ever. We will come back for sure. Super recommended place!
- thomas (10/5): -
excellent host. thank you
- Martin (10/5): - This was a fantastic place to stay in the centre. Wonderful staff and a great meal on our first night. The information provided by the owner together with the seamless airport transfer was appreciated. Highly recommended.
- Ana (10/5): - I loved staying here, the rooms are like living in a novela from Morocco. Alan wasn’t there but was available via phone, his staff showed us around and took care of us for any questions we had. I loved how they had English Breakfast tea, they also have a wine/beer menu.
It’s a place super hard to find, you need to download the app “ hip Marrakesh” or hire a porter. Alan emailed me saying that a reasonable tip for the porter is $4 USD, which is fine. But they should be in front of the medina (at the beginning) outside where taxis drop you off. we found a porter once we were in the beginning of the passage (2 min walk to the hotel and we had a carryon only). I encourage everyone to download that app and to contact Alan prior to arrival.
We had a wonderful time and city is very safe. It’s an experience to stay at a place like this, and staff made delicious breakfast every morning and were very nice.
- Mark (10/5): Wonderful Riad! - Staying at the Riad El Zohar was one of the highlights of our trip.
Finding the Riad in the middle of the Medina was a wonderful adventure. With Alan's instructions we were able to navigate the alleyways at 10:00pm.
The Riad's door opened into a magical oasis and we were greeted by Alan and his very accommodating staff.
Alan's knowledge and experience in Marrakech was helpful and very interesting. Despite the number of people our Host must meet in his Riad, Alan seems very genuine in his concern for the welfare of his guests.
We would highly recommend the Riad El Zohar.
- Harriet (10/5): - Everything at Riad El Zohar is outstanding. The property is an incredible oasis of calm just away from the busy souk. The team at the Riad were kind and always willing to help us navigate, and provide services such as a quick walk through the souk to the best value bureau de change when we arrived. The map and guest guide provided really helped us fill our trip. And their breakfast is a must! Thanks for an amazing trip.
- ANGELICA (10/5): - I recently had the pleasure of staying at this charming Moroccan Riad in Marrakesh with my family, and it was an experience that exceeded all our expectations.
First and foremost, El Zohar's location was perfect. Tucked away in the heart of the bustling Medina, it offered a tranquil retreat amidst the vibrant chaos of Marrakesh.
Every corner of this 350-year-old Riad was meticulously adorned with exquisite Moroccan craftsmanship and intricate details that truly reflected the rich heritage of the region. The traditional architecture, stunning patio, and serene rooftop terrace created a captivating atmosphere that made us feel like we had stepped into a fairytale.
What truly made our stay unforgettable, though, was the exceptional hospitality and service provided by Allan and the Riad staff. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted with traditional Moroccan tea, helpful information, and genuine smiles.
Allan was an absolute delight to interact with. He was incredibly friendly, attentive, and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure our comfort and satisfaction during our stay. His extensive knowledge of the local area and insightful recommendations for attractions, restaurants, and hidden gems truly enhanced our Moroccan adventure.
We strongly recommend El Zohar to anyone seeking an authentic Moroccan experience and cannot wait to return for another magical stay.
- Savvas Andreas (10/5): - We liked everything about this Riad -there is nothing to dislike.Allan the owner was the perfect host and helped with everything from arranging our trip to the Atlas mountains, transport to and from the airport and recommending and assisting with restaurant bookings. The staff were all tremendous also.Good location for everything and would highly recommend.
- Thomas (10/5): - An amazing experience - an oaisis of calm inside the old medina. The owner, Allan, was utterly charming and helpful. The staff were wonderful and so happy to help in any way. The area was inside the medina in the center of the sounks, narrow alley ways, and traditional morrocan life. Outstanding.
- Cecilia (10/5): - We were welcomed by Alan, and we were treated as welcomed and familiar guests. We received lots of useful tips and advice. Our room was magnificent and the place is perfectly designed and with continuous touch ups to keep it in top shape. Our waiter / valet and chef was amazing. Very helpful and very efficient. We had an incredible stay
- graham (10/5): - Beautiful Riad in quiet part of the Medina.
Great owner and staff could not have been more helpful.
Fantastic food too!
Simply the best!
- Schia (10/5): - We were a little nervous traveling to Morocco but Allen and his staff made our trip easy.
They helped us with logistics, tours and the food they made was the best we had ever had. I’d rate this over 5 stars if I could.
- Philip (10/5): - Allan, Malike & all the staff at Riad el Zohar really made our first stay in Morocco one to remember. Allan was a superb host, welcoming us, and helping us to orient in the surrounding Medina and souk area - this gave us the confidence to enjoy the city. Someone was always on hand to help, whether to answer a question or make some refreshing drinks. The breakfasts were a feast of Moroccan food, different every day, and we chose to eat at the El Zohar twice in our stay, the evening meals were so tasty and authentic. Recommend the chicken tagine with lemon. The Riad el Zohar is a beautiful house or palace with a light and airy inner courtyard and spacious bedrooms off, as well as dining and lounge areas. In the chill February evenings, we enjoyed the open fire in the lounge.
- derek (10/5): Stay here - Excellent stay, staff went above and beyond on more than one occasion
- edwin (10/5): - Incredibly beautiful Riad in a central location inside the Medina. The best part about this Riad is the convivial owner, Allan, who has such a passion for Marrakech and is more than happy to share it with you. Upon our arrival Allan spent half an hour giving us tips to maximize our stay in Marrakech and then showed us a nearby money exchange. In my entire time in Morocco, the best meal I had was at his Riad. Do try the Moroccan soup and lamb shoulder prepared by his amazing team.
- Katherine (10/5): - My partner and I stayed at Riad El Zohar for one night during a recent 1 week trip to Marrakech - we wish we had more time! The Riad is located in an amazing location - within a 5 minute walk from the center of all the souk/medina action, yet just distanced enough to feel serene and peaceful. It is beautiful indoors and has the charm that accompanies a multi hundreds-year old clay home while still being modern in comfort. The weather was cloudy the day we were there, yet from the rooftop there was still a beautiful view of the high snow-capped Atlas mountains. The room we stayed in was on the second floor overlooking the center of the riad and very spacious. Staff were kind and accomodating including preparing almost a full Moroccan breakfast at very early hours in time for our 7am flight. Finally, the review wouldn't be complete without a huge shoutout to Allan the owner - he reached out even before our arrival to help coordinate travel/tours in Marrakech and was fun/personal to chat with online, even moreso in-person. He is well-traveled, fortunately-so for his guests, as he has an abundance of travel stories/tips to make the trip postively memorable! The binder he has put together with Marrakech 101s/orientation is the best and will help you make the most of your trip.
Thank you for everything!!
- Colin (10/5): Book with Confidence. Fantastic - Fabulous stay. The owners and staff are super helpful and really can’t do enough to ensure you have a perfect stay. Information, airport transfers, guides, places to go or eat, all easily arranged through the Riad. The food is also excellent, in fact we ate several times at the Riad rather than going out. Very central to all the sights of Marrakech. Roof terrace very quiet with great views of the Atlas Mountains.
- Troy (10/5): - Perfect location! The owner even gives you a brief walking tour of the area to ensure you won’t gef lost but to also gjve you a history lesson. I felt very much at home and would definitely stay here again.
- graeme (10/5): - My husband and I have just returned from our stay at the Riad el Zohar. We stayed for 4 nights and honestly can’t recommend it enough. From the moment we booked, communication from Allan was first class. He was so incredibly helpful and full of useful information. He helped arrange collection from the airport to his Riad, dinner at the Riad on our first night (definitely have a meal there, special thanks to Khadija for the incredible meal), our hot air balloon flight, a tour of the Atlas mountain and transport back to the airport.
The information given must have taken ages to put together and is a huge help. Nothing is too much for them.
Thank you so much to Allan and his wonderful wife, Malika. We also had loads of help from Erradi and Morad, who work at the Riad.
When we first arrived it was crazy how busy the streets were, then walking to the Riad through the Medina, with hussles of people and mopeds…..! The Riad is behind a wooden door and is absolutely amazing from the moment you walk through. So much thought and effort into making you welcome, from a duvet on the bed (it was cold when we visited) to plenty of cups of Yorkshire tea (Allan is English, Malika French).
Our bed was comfortable and we had our bed made daily. Breakfast was also incredible every morning.
The Souks are just a few minutes from the Riad. You get used to the shop workers wanting to sell to you, it’s amazing to just get lost in the maze and find your way out again. Really recommend
- Amanda (10/5): - Nothing was too much trouble for the staff at Riad El Zohar. We were taken on an orientation tour on arrival which put us totally at ease with our environment. The location of the riad too was second to none: in the heart of the medina, seconds away from the souks, yet still quiet. We would definitely recommend.
- Tonya (10/5): Wished we could have stayed longer - El Zohar is a wonderful place to stay. It's beautiful, quiet and the staff members extremely helpful. We didn't get to meet Allan as he was back home, but I did get to speak with him over facetime and he was very helpful and a pleasure to speak with. I'm disappointed that we didn't get to meet in person. But Erradi was such a wonderful host who went above and beyond for us. The breakfast was delicious and the dinner was one of the best we had while in Morocco. The room was beautiful and beds were comfortable. The Riad is so close to the square and finding your way is quite easy. Stay here, you will love it!
- Ian (10/5): - This is the most perfect Riad as a base to explore the city and run in the most friendly and professional way. Allan and all his staff go the extra mile to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. In our view, you will not find better hospitality here. Wonderful room. Excellent food and service. Highly recommended. Many thanks to all the team here and especially to our main host for the stay Erradi. Big thumbs up. Just book now. You won’t regret it 😊
- Karen (10/5): - We stayed with our 3 boys aged 17 15 and13 for October half term 2022 for a few days. We came here after trekking for 4 days and 3 nights in the Atlas mountain's, we were covered in dust and completely exhausted and needed a bit of tlc. El Zohra was the perfect place to recover from a hard trek. Riad El Zohra is beautifully restored, spotlessly clean and so luxurious with amazing food, staff and lovely sunrise views from the terrace in the morning. We were made to feel really welcome by the owner Allan, like guests in his home. Allan walked us around on our first night to direct us through maze of the Marrakesh streets and showed is where to eat. We felt so at home and had an amazing time here. Can't recommend highly enough. Karen and Pierre UK.
- Ira (10/5): - I stayed 2 nights in Riad El Zohar for the first two days on a trip to Morocco. The Riad is located inside the Medina. The hotel will give you guidance on how to find it. Allan the Riad principal will greet you and give you an overview of the area and how to find it along with maps and a pointer to an excellent online app. he even will take a walk with you to show you how to get around. The Riad is beautiful with a pool in the center and many nice rooms. I was comfortable and the bed was comfortable also. The vibe welcoming and you can easily just sit in the courtyard and relax. Breakfast was yummy and freshly made. Allan was a kind soul and ever walked me to my dinner spot which was a heafty walk away. I would recommend Riad El Zohar to travelers to Marrakech, it is centrally located to everything in the Riad. Would love to stay there again on a future trip to Morocco.
- Sarah (10/5): - I loved the staying here, the photos are just as it is. The staff are super friendly and helpful it almost felt like I had walked into a family home. My hosts Allan and Melaka where so friendly with yelling you about places and even went out with me to experience places
I stayed in the Ourika room and it was soo comfy and very clean
I cannot wait to return to stay here again
- Simon (10/5): - The very best place we stayed in all our travels in Morocco. Incredibly comfortable rooms, superb service and very quiet. The interior is beautiful and the pool is lovely. The food is outstanding - again, the best we had! Allan, the owner, was incredibly helpful as this trip was postponed twice dur to Covid. We cannot recommend this Riad highly enough. Thank you - we had a fantastic stay.
- Ruth (10/5): A lovely stay!! - Loved it!! Thanks, Allan!!!
