Guest Reviews
- Timothy (2/5): - The pictures haven’t been updated in decades. This hotel is the place where nightmares come to get scared.
- Claire (4/5): - haunted, smelled of urine, and dusty but very fun to explore. Should have come here 40 years ago. Seriously this place is disgusting however we had a very fun time exploring what seemed to be an almost abandoned hotel. So we would come back but not for sleeping.
- Timothy (10/5): - The staff, specifically henry, made my stay wonderful.
- Darren (10/5): - The stay was fine. It’s an tired old hotel in a rural area…but was clean and cheap. I’m good with that.
- terry (4/5): - The room was not clean broken drawer and lamp shades. no shower, water was brown. Room was dirty.
- Stephanie (4/5): - The water was brown when first turned on. It had a weird smell and you can tell that nothing has been wiped down, the remote was sticky
- Neil (2/5): - This place should be condemned . You can tell.that back in the day it was a beautiful place. Do not stay here.
- Marshall (8/5): - It was not as grimey or disgusting as I expected it to be. Bed was very comfy. Great location right between the Shawangunks and thr Catskills. Does look abandoned on the outside. Probably the oddest hotel I have been to. This place has a lot of potential, just needs some sprucing up.
- Hardik (10/5): - It’s very easy to communicate nice big property working staff excellent
- Verified traveler (6/5): OK to sleep, but overpriced - Not worth the price, in my opinion. This was my first stay here, so I can’t speak to any changes or improvements. The hotel is old and the rooms are in OK-to-poor shape. It’s evident that some renovations have been done, but they don’t really eliminate the “way past its prime” vibe of the hotel.
- Yuliya (10/5): - Great place
- mary (10/5): We will come back - The price was great and the staff were super friendly!
- Tom (10/5): - Henry at the front desk was very friendly and helpful and apologized for nothing as all is normal to the staff. But yes, everything is tired looking in terms of decorating and very outdated but it is all passable and when leaves are turning, nothing wrong at half the price and the only place below $400 that has rooms available.
Their problem is it's virtue. Prospective guests need to rearrange their expectations. Yes, the whole place is an odd combination of huge impressive first floor common areas, and a big outdoor pool which is drained and an eyesore. (although the indoor pool in the basement is open 24/7). The reviews were so poor, I was expecting to walk in and tiptoe over the debris. But it is such an oddity, an 8 story behemoth in the middle of nowhere, you will be taking pictures and laughing with your family and friends at the next visit. You can tell them there is one elevator button for the left car for those on odd floors and the same button that goes to the even floors on the right car. It is a white elephant, a non-sequitur, an anachronism where they think it is perfectly normal to make a broken down hotel into what they may think is an over the top AirBnB. Go in with the right attitude and It should be on everyone's list who wants a cheap life-long memory that will bring a smile to your face even when you are happily leaving.
- MICHAEL (2/5): - Disgusting place, should be closed down. My room wasn't vacuumed before I came, no one came to clean to while I was there either. The shower barely worked, the elevators barely work, the stairwells are gross, room was gross, pool area is closed and trashed, it smells gross in the lobby, the lobby furniture is disgusting, absolutely nothing redeemable about this place. It was probably nice once is all I can say. I am going to contact my card company, because it was pretty unacceptable conditions and the fact that they are charging nearly $200 a night is INSANE and a scam. Should be condemned.
- Sigrid (4/5): Horrible hotel - We went to this hotel because it was close to the college where we were visiting our daughter. It was really outdated, smelled old and was really visibly dirty.
We won’t be back. This hotel and spa should be torn down. Weeds growing in The parking lot, the building has exposed paint cracked and chips, broken entrance to the hotel.
- Jaime (4/5): - The property is old and antiquated - not in a cool vintage way - and it’s long due for an update.
The room was unkept - maintenance and cleanliness wise.
Lamps not working, lamp shades worn out/broken, damaged closet door poorly fixed, and a grimy sticky spot by the coffee machine - clearly not cleaned in a long time.
Do not recommend.
- Cathrine (2/5): - I did not even stay in the hotel, we pulled in and it was absolutely disgusting. The front doors would not even open! It was filthy. Disgusting we had to find another place to stay and they would not refund my money! I am so disappointed! Will never ever ever use hotels.com again
- Juan (8/5): - Reading some reviews, we were hesitant to book. Property is large and old. Lobby is huge. We checked in 10:30pm and was greeted by very friendly and helpful staff. There was a party going on in banquet hall, so it was quiet lively, festive. Lobby is huge, with big chandeliers. Room was clean, rug was older but clean. Desk was wobbly but we did not need to use it. We only stayed one night, but it met our need. We attended Meadowlark festival in Stone Ridge, Easy to find at night.
Had clean comfortable bed and working shower. .Keurig in room, but did not see coffee or cups. Had refrigerator. No restaurant on site, not a problem , went to Saunderkill Farm for breakfast on Route 209. I would stay here again.
- Eva (2/5): - This hotel is absolutely disgusting I checked in and left in a matter of 1 hour because it looked like a crime scene when I walked in to my room. There is also a door that is connected to another room and that is sus af. I’ve seen enough movies to know I don’t wanna be killed. Never ever coming back here. Also smells like cat piss.
- Victor (4/5): - Didn’t have in a room what was promised
- Nancy (2/5): - We should receive a refund. This hotel couldn’t possibly pass an inspection and I wonder about the safety of the elevators as well. The description of the Hudson Valley Resort and Spa is extremely deceptive. It was absolutely run down and filthy. Towels were all over the hallway when we arrived and were there when we checked out. Ceiling tiles were falling. The lobby had food on the floor from children and a turned over stroller that seemed to be ok sitting there. The garbage bin outside the building was overflowing with crap. I took pictures if you would like them. The rugs are all stained. Where is the building inspector? The check in staff were all very nice- that’s about it. Requesting a full refund! I have several pics of the filth. We’re disgusted to say the least.
- Beth (2/5): - Lobby and outskirts of hotel were filthy. Indoor pool was disgusting. The hotel hasn’t been kept up and it’s falling apart. Hairdryer in room didn’t work and we were going to a wedding so hairstyle was important. Outdoor pool in disrepair. Elevator maintenance questionable.
- Evan (2/5): - This place needs to be condemned immediately. It's structure is falling apart. It's delapitated. The furniture is old. The decorations are worn and extremely dated. All charm is lost on the wear and tear of everything. Smelled like mold and water damage when you enter. This place needs to be shut down. I did not see cockroaches but it wouldn't surprise me if there were heavy pest problems as well, though this is just speculation. My assumption is always, how somebody does one thing, is how they do everything! And if this place is to judge, everything is a problem. The window in our room, was barely held together with ad hoc wood trimmings. This place needs to be sold and leveled.
- Shannon (2/5): Hudson Valley Stay - This was a strange experience. My key didn’t work and the elevators are very very old. There were dirty plates, cups, dishes with old food and coffee everywhere in the hallways. Dirty towels strewn about. There was hair in the bathtub and only shampoo and two lotions provided. The air conditioner was not on and unable to be adjusted. She floors were dirty and the whole place had a strange odor. I would never stay here again.
- helene (8/5): - We found it unique and close to most of the activities we were interested in. The breakfast was nice and the seating outside was very accommodating with a nice view. We did use the hiking trail in the property and our dog enjoyed the trail as well. The room we had was next to the entrance so it was slightly noisy, but we had the air on in the evening so it wasn’t an issue. The not so great part was the check in because the person that checked us in was extremely rude. We also had no Netflix and after calling the same person at reception , we were told the property was in some type of transition and Netflix and other TV capabilities were not available. My daughter was also told that SOME people fin it hard to operate a remote control. We were also told at. Our 5 pm checkin our 9 lb dog was an additional 75.00 (
And if we didn’t like it , we could leave) . being a service dog we were surprised and did not see mention of that on the property website other than the hotel was dog friendly. We did basically enjoy the one night stay , the owner was hospitable and made up for the nasty woman that checked us in . The person on evening shift at the desk was nice as well. It’s hard getting past the initial condescending attitude especially since the check in process sets the tone first thing however we wouldn’t allow an obviously troubled person to ruin our stay. Enjoy the natural beauty.
- JUAN (6/5): - THE GUY WORKIN THE FRONT DESK WAS ONLY THING THAT WAS POSITIVE
- Verified traveler (6/5): Tired and run down - Hotel is tired and obviously has not been renovated in decades. Staff is very friendly and tries to be helpful, given the limitations with which they have to work.
- Oleksandr (10/5): - We stayed one night, clean room, clean bathroom, we saw a live bear in the parking lot.
- Hector (6/5): - Thank is very god is to old but is god
- Darlene (10/5): - Easy check in, beautiful entrance, comfortable beds!
- Andrew (2/5): - There is absolutely NO WAY anyone should stay at this property. I have photos. Please advise how to share them with you.
- Kayla (4/5): - The staff were great and the the room itself was clean and had everything we needed. There was no spa. The indoor pool was very outdated and not very clean or warm especially since it’s December. The elevators are very old and seems to not have been updated since they first built the building. The property had a lot of potential but it is very outdated and needs lots of repairs. While checking out it was pouring outside and there was a huge leak in the lobby. Our overall stay was good but we wish it was more of a spa like stay like we thought.
- Jorge (4/5): - The other poor views weren kidding. This once was a premier mountain resort that fell into pathetic and shocking disrepair. Most areas are shuttered. The carpeting is filthy throughout but thankfully the beds were clean. Sad place. Stay at a B&B instead.
- Debra (8/5): - The room was large and clean and the beds were very comfortable
- Verified traveler (6/5): Disappointing - This place was probably very nice at one time but is very run down now. The elevators hardly worked and I didn’t sleep the entire first night I was there because I could physically hear the elevators running all night. My room was big but there were stains all over the carpet and the furniture. I leaned on the desk in my room and it almost fell apart because it was so wobbly. Kids and families constantly just hanging out and sitting in the lobby even at late hours in the night.
This is more like a motel than a “resort and spa”. Great surrounding views but not worth it in my opinion.
- Falk (2/5): Unhealthy dump - I can’t believe the health department hasn’t shut this place down. Mold in the bathroom. The weight room ceiling has a hole in it. The debris is all over the floor and the weight machines and the ceiling is covered in black mold. The ceiling over the pool has paint peeling and falling into the pool. Stains on the carpet everywhere. Bed was like sleeping on a piece of plywood.
- Stacy (2/5): Do NOT stay here - This place is awful, I have no idea how it’s in business the rooms need updating there were tears in the walls, by the pool the ceiling is falling and a huge hole in the ceiling by the gym equipment. There is no way this place is up to code it should be shut Down
- Jerry (4/5): - This old hotel is out in the middle of nowhere. 30 minutes on very curvy roads. Facilities are old and not maintained. Can't get the smell out of my head.
- Deanna (2/5): - our first room we were placed in did not have working air conditioning, a working phone and a lock on the door was broke so we got moved to another room where again the door did not lock, and the phone did not work. The whole property is really rundown, the lobby bathroom had missing ceiling tiles the whole place smelled terrible. The pool area was disgusting. Our room was clean, but had bad stained carpet peeling wallpaper. The whole property needs a facelift. On the plus side the staff was very friendly.
- Stewart (6/5): - The lobby is clean and nice. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The outdoors area is is an extremely poor condition, weeds growing though sidewalks, grounds have zero maintenance. The rooms are old and worn with holes in the walls from pictures and other items removed. The door to my room did not have a secondary lock; the chain lock was broken and the dead bolt did not work. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The rest of the hotel outside of the room and lobby is falling apart and should be bulldozed.
- Douglas (2/5): - There was literally poop on the floor by the elevator.
- Gina (4/5): - Do. Not. Stay. Here. The pictures are nothing like the actual property. Manager was very nice and accommodating, however, property was unkept and unsanitary. There seems to be a Jewish camp that attends here and/or lives at this property. Kids are running around everywhere and on every floor.
- diane (6/5): - Old property. Creepy and wonderful. A glimpse of the past. Hopefully on its way to
Recovery
- Peter (6/5): - Descent place to stay at a reasonable price. A little old, needs updating.
- Shara (8/5): - This was modest place to stay. My room was large and clean. It looked out on the most beautiful tree filled with golden yellow and orange leaves. The space has seen better days, but the price was right and they allowed pets.
- David (10/5): - The view was amazing from my room.
- Dale (10/5): - It’s a great place to stay and the staff are friendly and helpful. Ready to answer any questions. Highly recommended
- Hong (4/5): - The representative was so nice when we check in, but the room make me so disappoint. I killed two big flying bugs in the room!! And the facilities within the room are super old. Shower either too hot or too cold. Window so dirty! Just one night is enough. Never book here again.
- Manuela (2/5): Hotel Shining - The place is completely run-down. Everything is broken and it is creepy. The carpet was pulled up, there were broken tiles, things were lying around. Nothing from the ad was true. There is no tea room. There is no breakfast. It is an awful place that was probably nice at one point.
- Dakota (4/5): - Bed sheets and towels had stains and human hair embedded in them. Towel had a blood stain.
- Regina (8/5): - Property lobby redone. Room looks modern and nice size. Bed comfortable. Got good price. Elevators look old but run fine. I would return.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Guy on the front desk was great! Very respectful and knows what he's doing. Asked for a room with a good view but he couldnt find any availability. Thank you, sir!
The lobby has seen better days. Maybe in it's heyday this was really grand. Looks like there's some improvements planned or going on because i see rolled up carpets and flat screen TVs piled up. Kinda looks clean if not for those.
The elevator's up button looks broken but worked. Inside the elevator, the Lobby button was an upside down 7. A vandalized plaque tells you not to jump.
The room is opened by actual keys, not key cards, although the doorknob setup has that slot for the keycards.
In the room, the sliding doors for the closet rubs on the carpet on the floor. No microwave. Room looks clean. I don't know if the tv channels worked. We brought our firestick and connected it to their no-password wifi. Room phone did not have a dial tone. Tried to connect and reconnect all the cable on the phone and on the wall. Didn't work. The bed was comfortable. The AC worked. There were extra pillows and beddings available in the room. Enough towels for us to use. Mini fridge worked. Keurig coffee.
Hot water for the shower and sink. Bathroom throne got royally clogged! Water just wont go down!
- EVELYN (6/5): - This hotel was very shabby. The lobby
