Guest Reviews
- DeeH606 (8/5): Older but nice hotel good rate - Was a days inn now independent. Very nice staff. Room small but clean quiet and comfortable. Woman at desk accidentally kept charge and ran it up to our room at. 11 at night. We could have been halfway home without realizing gone. Older but that’s ok. Convenient to town and train.
- J3252WLangelj (4/5): It’s a miss unless u r desperate - Decently clean, warm, dry. But it’s a weird depressing vibe of a hotel that used to be a hospital.
I stay in many budget motels and this is a solid two possibly one star.
And since TripAdvisor requires 200 words in this review I’ll finish with JUST DONT !
- Verified traveler (4/5): - This used to be a hospital. All rooms are on the 3rd floor.
- whisperedreams (2/5): Dont go! - My husband and I, were recommended by another hotel manager. ( Which was contracted out , for pipe line workers) Come to find out , he was affiliated with this Inn. At least , his cards were advertised at check out desk. Was also lead to believe , all hotels were contracted out , but this one. Was false information. The price after seeing what we paid for , was over the top. ( $95 ) After booking a room. Third floor. We were told the elevator was not working. So three floors with bags we had to climb. No offer of help. My husband has lung cancer. So was not an easy task for him.No matter health , they should offer help! The room was dirty. Carpet made you feel you needed to wear socks. Chair seats were stained from soils. Bathroom was like a truckers shower room. TV was at old. The remote to TV was missing. Bed was suppose to be a queen , was a small double. Lumpy mattress , as well as lumpy pillows. Had to unplug refrigerator, due to the noise it made. All in all nothing was satisfactory! Shameful they even are doing business. Need to shut down , fix elevator , and re do rooms! Or close!
- U89SQroberts (2/5): Broken Elevator...Missing Remote...over priced - Looked like it used to be a decent hotel. The desk clerk was nice and this is not her fault. After paying $107.00 was told room is third floor and the elevator is broke. I have stage 4 lung cancer and a heart condition...sloughed bags to room. Room was not clean in my opinion...tv had no remote...clerk tried to find one/no luck. Refrigerator was very noisy so we unplugged. I wouldn't stay again. Seemed mostly office space-they should stick to that. The Super 8 Windham was much, MUCH nicer...and cost less.
- Patricia (6/5): - There was no air or heat on, but luckily the front desk had a fan so we could put it in our room. I think the hotel is a little outdated, but the staff was very nice and recommended a great place for dinner (Mama Mia’s).
- Frederick E (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay there. The only contact we had with staff was at the front desk. They were very friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Over all satisfied. - Bed was a little hard, breakfast could be better, had to ask for towels and toilet paper. Staff at the desk was very nice and handled problems quickly.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Easy check in and out. History of being a hospital is pretty cool.
- leonard (4/5): Creepy - I must be getting old but this Hotel was once a hospital and it really has done very little to hide the fact, and if you want to get a feel of what it will be like to live in a Nursing Home with Medical Offices on the ground floor etc.this is the place for you. I only stayed one night. Happy to be back on the road. Like I said I must be getting old!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Elkins, WV - Staff were really nice but hotel seems to be an old hospital that was converted into a hotel. Rooms are very small and had a bad smell. Everything is a bit old and room had a big 80's style TV with no remote but they have good wi-fi in the rooms. Price was ok for what we got. BTW, check-out is at 11am and they don't have late check-outs.
If you stay in Elkins, look for another place unless you want to save money. Have dinner at the Vintage restaurant, food is great.
- jeff (6/5): good for one night stay - room clean. staff nice, continental breakfast a joke.
- sherris157 (4/5): Very strange place - Long check in and I was the only person there. The key programmer was broke and had to wait over an hour for maintenance man to come fix it. The lady checking me in was very friendly but distracted. She ran my credit card through and said it was declined although the gas station and restaurant had no problems. The wifi offered was from Days Inn and only worked on third floor. The room was very very small but clean. The other floors were rented out as offices too. If I had known there were other hotel options I would have went somewhere else for the night. I'm not even sure there was an employee there from 11p-7a because the front desk was not regularly manned. I question the safety in hind sight. The little restaurant connect to the building around back had inexpensive and good breakfast food but CLEARLY treats patrons of color VERY differently. WILL NOT EVER EAT THERE AGAIN!
- melissacD3061MC (2/5): I would rather sleep in my car then return to his hotel/past hospital bldg. - Took forever to check in-slow service. Elevator was old. 2nd floor is for corrections. 3rd Floor is for hotel guests. I cannot sleep without AC. The old unit did not work for AC. When I told the front desk-she acted like she was agitated. She said she would be right up to check it but she told me to open a window instead. Had to go back and request her to come two more times before she finally did. She told me the AC was working but it was not. We went into the hallway and she said it was cool in the hall. The AC does work in the halls but the rooms are units from the hospital days in the late 1970's. She said she would bring me a fan but she never did. My back was wet from sweating and I went back down and requested another room. She said she only had suites left and I would have to pay more money which is ridiculous-where does customer service come into play? She did not look me in the eye and acted irritated. She called her boss who told her to put me in another room and charge me $25.00 more! This room was not a suite which was strange as she said suites were all she had left. The room was not any cooler. I tolerated the night with no sleep. I think I would have done better staying in my car. Breakfast was a joke. Hardly anything to eat. Man I met at the tiny breakfast "closet" told me that no one wants to stay here as the air conditioning in none of the rooms work-said all units need replaced and they don't want to foot the bill so they ignore people complaining. That is why the rooms are so affordable-you literally roast. I stayed here in May and I wouldn't even imagine the temperature in the rooms in July and August. I couldn't tell you about the beds. I stood up most of the time near the window praying for a gust of cool air. All the hotels were full in the area or I would have went somewhere else.
- privilegeda (8/5): Amenities - Plenty of amenities. This hotel room had a microwave, a hairdryer and a refrigerator. Would have liked an better or upgraded television. Good closet space. Had a center room and it was not noisy at all.
- KalinaMarie (2/5): Mini family vacation - I do not recommend this place. Although the staff were friendly the rooms were not very clean and for 200.00 they definitely could have been better rooms. I had to go buy cleaner with bleach before my kids or I could get in the tub.
- bhcarlson (8/5): Small town Hospitality at its best!!! - Completing a month long stay at the Elkins Inn and Suites. Being a travel technician in the medical field, I have stayed at many hotels. The Elkins Inn and Suites, hands down, has the best customer service. I am a hotel snob and will say I misjudged the fact that this is an old hospital. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. All the staff are personable and attentive. I highly recommend!!!
- mlwadventures (4/5): Do not recommend - I am pretty laid back about where I stay, but this was truly an unpleasant experience. The building is very confusing, there are several other businesses on the lobby level so if you accidentally enter the building from the back it doesn't seem like you are in the right place. It looks like you are in a hospital which turns out you are. The staff when I checked in was pleasant enough, no complaints. The room I stayed in was very hot with no thermostat, the sheets and towels were dirty with a previous customers hair all over them and there is a weird window that looks in to the hallway. I did try to find another place to stay but every hotel was sold out so I sucked it up and decided to stay. Just before 11PM a guy used a key and walked right in to my room. I freaked out and called The front desk to be told that he works there and accidentally went into the wrong room while delivering coffee. There is no circumstance where any hotel should open a door without knocking. The fitness center is a joke in the creepy basement and the continental breakfast was mini muffins and bagels. Overall the place is dirty and creepy, I will never stay here again and would not recommend to anyone.
- sjoara (2/5): Terrible Place. Terrible Staff. Terrible Time. - The room was significantly SMALL! My husband, myself and our 3 kids were put into a room which very much resembled a Prison Cell. In fact, I dare say a Prison cell has more room than this did at one point I felt like I had committed a crime & was being "punished". It was beyond small. It was uncomfortably cramped- so much so, the sink was approx. 20" from the bed! The TV/Stand and bed(s) were so close to each other it was just enough room for one person to walk by! It was so uncomfortable and strange on how small this room was!
I asked for another room, one that was just a bit bigger and one that had a bathtub in there as we have a handicap child and giving bath(s) are much easier than showers. The woman was completely RUDE and became very agitated by us even asking this question, and told us flat out "No, we don't have one". No apology, not kind words, just "No". She was completely Unpleasant, mean spirited and down right unfriendly.
In the morning as were getting ready to leave, I received a call from the downstairs clerk who said and I quote "Someone in another room can hear a blow dryer going, could you please be sure to turn it off"- I informed this man that I would NOT as I was drying my hair from a shower I took, and I would certainly not stop blow drying my hair as I have every right too! I was floored by such an ignorant phone call!
When we checked out downstairs, I informed the front desk what a miserable stay we had and that I was very unhappy with all that transpired, I will given the "Oh well shoulder nod" he looked at me and said NOT a word as if he did not care. He was beyond rude!
I will NEVER EVER return, nor would I ever recommend this place to anybody! The staff needs to learn manners, decency, friendliness and what it means to be professional! Absolutely TERRIBLE in all aspects!
- vincelewis1 (10/5): The friendliest place I have ever stayed - This is a renovated hospital actually, and all of the rooms are on the 3rd floor except for the suites. The rooms are small, but clean, and there are many offices in the building on the other floors. It is a unique experience, and there are obviously some folks that it isn't fun for, but my stay was incredibly nice. The staff was friendly and the little coffee shop food and prices were wonderful, with a nice little patio to sit on with friends. My family and friends that came to the Jazz Walk Concert that I played were thrilled with the facility as well. I definitely will stay there again whenever I am in the area.
- paulap920 (6/5): Too hot to breathe. - I had to take a room at this hotel because most of the others were full due to events going on in Elkins. As I was checking in, one couple was leaving because the room was hot. I questioned the desk clerk and he told me that the air hadn't been turned on and it needed time to cool out. Well, we were going to go eat, so I ask if he would kindly turn the air on for me so it would be cool when we returned. When we returned to our room, it seemed plenty nice and clean but was still so hot you could not breathe. I picked up the phone to call the front desk and the phone didn't work either. So I used my cell phone to call and ask where the AC controls were because I had stripped all my clothes and was still burning up. The young man told me there was a control under the window. I told him I was at the window and there was none! I then said to him, "you told me you would come to this room and turn the air on. Did you?" He then informed me they were working on the air on 3rd floor and it should cool out any time. Needless to say, it never did. The manager was kind enough to bring me up an oscillating fan. I managed to get through the night with the fan but I will never stay there again. Unless you are a tiny little ole lady that freezes in the summer, I would encourage you to find a hotel with ac, not an old converted hospital.
- ritac903 (2/5): Never again... - Dept of Corrections is in the 2nd floor!!! The window had many dead flies in it, so I closed the curtains so I wouldn't have to see them. The room was then quite dark, as the lights were inefficient. There was LOTS of NOISE outside the room when I checked in, & I was tired so called the desk to see if I could be moved to a quieter location. I was told there was a room on the 2nd floor, but she was told to not sell it. Later when I saw the WV Dept of Corrections is on that floor, I was relieved they hadn't moved me there. At breakfast, the coffee was cold & the hot water for oatmeal was cold, even though I had just seen an employee bring it into the b-fast area. Horrible experience!
- 900janelg (6/5): Good rates, lobby nicely remodeled - There was a room rate special when we stayed here overnight earlier this month. We didn't try the free breakfast. Our room was adequately standard. It was on the third floor overlooking a busy, noisy street. But, we were so tired, it didn't bother us. The room was non- smoking, but I suspect it was once a smokers room. There was a room down the hall where the smoking was so heavy, I almost gagged as I walked by. Friendly, helpful staff. Good nights stay for the price.
- J (8/5): Simple, comfortable. - Ckean, simple, quiet, and comfortable in a mixed use building. Would recommend and will return.
- PLConklin (8/5): Clean and comfortable - Got into town late in the day and due to an event in the
area all hotels were booked. As we were leaving town we
took a chance and stopped here.
I was a bit hesitant by looks of the lobby. Very dated but they had a vacancy
and we were beat.
The room was very simple but most importantly very clean. One of cleanest rooms
I have been in in a long time.
Breakfast was in a cramped room and just basics, bagels, cereal juice & coffee
Staff was very friendly and helpful
- Verified traveler (4/5): dishonest advertising - when I went to book online had two different prices and then got there and got another one that was higher. that is dishonesty in my opinion places should not post one let alone two and then charge a higher price when you get there. they also made it seem that they did not have a lot of rooms left to stay in and they hardly had anyone stay there no wonder go figure
- Carol (4/5): Disappointing - I was shocked how the room was I paid 109 dollars for a 30 dollar room. there was not even a microwave in the room, I guess I was glad it was only for one night.
- yakfit (6/5): haunting - We stayed one night last week. I did not read any reviews as we were last minute needing a room. I told my husband "this is a hospital!' As the elevator door was closing to go to floor 3, a man walked by and said "this is not a hospital!"I looked at my husband and just thought, that was strange that he would say that to me. After midnight, My husband woke me up as I was screaming because there was a woman in a hospital gown tying to push herself into bed with us.I went back to sleep and then he woke me up again as I was screaming because there was a babydoll head next to my husband's head n the bed!" I took a photo of the bathroom and the entrance door to our room and there are 2 orbs in the door photo. The lobby clerk told us that it was a former hospital. I think it is haunted.
- 410pw (2/5): Bedbugs! - Stayed here one night as a last resort because other motels in the area were full. The staff seemed friendly but we thought it a little strange that there were a number of medical offices and businesses (even the County Bail Bond office) located in the building along with the guest rooms. Then we woke up with bedbug bites the following day! Checked the online Bedbug Registry and found that this motel - formerly called the Elkins Days Inn - did indeed have previous bedbug incidents on record. Will NEVER stay there again - would rather sleep in our car if it comes to that.
- shoxgdp (6/5): A budget stay with a twist - I knew ahead of time this was formerly a hospital, so I wasn't freaked out. It's clearly a budget level of lodging, so don't hold any high expectations. If you're a 5-star hotel type of traveller, you won't be happy. I was just overnighting, and needed a simple place to stay, and this was just fine. Nothing fancy, didn't have an issues other than a bit of noise at night from other customers. If you can overlook the slightly dated decor, you'll do just fine.
- 169darrylm (2/5): Old Hospital!!!!! Ghost Hunters should visit this place. - Upon entering this hotel I noticed that the layout resembled the entrance to a hospital there was a gift shop to the left. I made it to my room and found it even more resembled a hospital room with only a shower and commercial style toilet. After further Investigation the truth came out It was an old hospital that someone decided to convert into a hotel. Not at all impressed. Did not sleep well the price was cheap but that was the onlly thing this place had going for it.
- Terry (8/5): Comfortable Stay - The room was very clean, and comfortable. Minimal noise from the adjacent room was noted, but not distracting or annoying. Would stay again if in the area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Everything was fine, staff was helpful, really good with our dogs.
- George (6/5): Different! - What can you say about staying in a hotel/room that is a remodeled hospital? If you want to arrive in a wheelchair, and take a shower in it, this is your place! Oh, don't forget the restaurant located in the ex-morgue - cold finger food their specialty!
Seriously, room was comfortable and one of the few available in the area, with this being the height of fall leaf viewing. Price was reasonable. Just don't expect the Hilton - more like Perez Hilton (a little odd).
- Verified traveler (10/5): We wrote a note in the room. - We enjoyed our stay.
- Lisa (2/5): Hotel or Hospital Room???? - When I booked this hotel, I did so because I thought it was part of a national chain and felt that it would be pleasant and comfortable with a base level of amenities. I did not realize until we checked in that it was a renovated hospital with office suites located in the same building. I believe the sign at the check-in area said it was locally owned.
The rooms truly were the size and layout of a hospital room and the bathroom was APPALLING. It looked like something straight out a 60's hospital or perhaps a prison. There was no place in the shower to place items like shampoo and razors. No soap was provided for the sink or shower. The smell, however, was even worse--part hospital, part nursing home.
We only needed the room for one night otherwise I would have asked for a refund and driven to the next town. To be fair, it was clean but old bathroom tiles never look that great.
- Linda (4/5): Old Hospital converted into a Hotel - Rooms were very small and cramped. This is an old Hospital turned into a motel.. there are private businesses on the first floor of which you have to pass to go up the elevator to rooms. The continental breakfast was poor and for the price I would NOT recommend this hotel. Last but not least there were NO ice machines.. If u want
ice u have to ask the desk clerk on the 1st floor and they have to get it for you!!! I have never heard of such a thing, it was ICE???
- Jean (4/5): Disappointed - We were disappointed with our stay at this Days Inn. First day, only 2 towels & 2 washclothes. Second day,
one towel & 1 washcloth. I requested a bar of soap and got none. Windows were dirty on the inside.
The bed was comfortable.
Hotel entrance was beautiful.
- marcus (2/5): Old with a moldy spell....no closet, brk tolet - I have never stayed in a hotel so bad..there was a mildew smell, the tolet was broken there was not enough electrical outlets in the room, the elevator was scary
- Andy (4/5): Overpriced accomodation - The room was spartan and felt like a hospital room. The receiver to change channels on the TV was secured behind the TV so the only way to change the channel was go up and point the remote behind the television. The cost of $90 was much more than should be charged. No continental breakfast except on Sunday.
A very disappointing stay at an inferior hotel at a greatly inflated rate. I recommend finding another place to stay.
- susan (2/5): horrible rip off - we rented the honeymoon suite because we needed a bed for our 8 year old granddaughter and thought a Jacuzzi suite would be fun. what we did not know is that the tub was in the bedroom where you had no privacy. the toilet was in a closet, with a shower which we found out later was because it was a former hospital. the pull-out sofa bed that my granddaughter slept on was perfect for her size (60 pounds) but when I sat on it, I went to through to the bottom. there was a "great" restaurant attached to the hotel only open for breakfast and lunch so we were happy to hear that. BUT the place was closed on Saturdays. he could have told us that since we were staying just for one night - and on a Friday - so we had arranged for people to meet us there and there was nothing open.
- shan (8/5): Pretty decent hotel - Overall the stay was decent, one thing I didnt appreciate was, when I called the front desk for towels they had me go get them from the lobby rather than bringing them to me. Other than that the stay was alright. But I do feel the price for a night at this hotel was a little crazy only because the hotel is pretty average.
- H Ward (2/5): Very Dissatisfied - First night, the TV was not working and the staff indicated that there was no resolution since it was the weekend. They offered to move me into another room the following morning. The room itself to which I moved was worse than the first room and I was unable to connect to the internet even though I was told initially that it was working. There seemed to no concern from staff relative to any of my concerns, there was little to no effort at resolving any of the aforementioned issues. Each of the several staff members I encountered made me feel like I was inconveniencing them by raising y legitimate concerns. It is very unlikely that I will ever stay at another Days Inn.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great hotel - Great choice, I would stay again. Our non smoking did smell alittle like cigrettes.
- chris (2/5): Not a place to stop!! - The clerk was rude. The rooms were very small. Pet prices were over priced. The hotel was old and unkempt. Much better choices in towns before or after this one.
- Robert (6/5): Ok for last second place to stay. - We came on a motorcycle and the lighting in the parking area was terrible. Although the hotel upgraded us to a suite because they didn't have the standard room, the bed was exremely uncomfortable. It was supposedly a queen size but was a full size and it felt like sleeping on a couch bed. I was pretty dissappointed in the "continental" breakfast and mini bagels and mini muffins, but the coffee was good. We decided to have breakfast at the, attached, short order restaurant and it was very good! This was a last second trip that we had no choice on where to stay, because all the major hotels were booked, and unless we had no choice, again, we would not purposely stay here again. The staff was helpful, but fairly indifferent.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice enough - I booked a ground floor room and come to find out there aren't any rooms on the 1st floor. Ended up on the 3rd floor. Not much of an inconvenience though as they did have elevators pretty close
- Verified traveler (8/5): OK stay - everything was fine however the breakfast should have offered tea/greentea flavoed creamers the pictures on the web page are not accurate they are not even of the place we stayed.
- Verified traveler (6/5): bad beds first night - The first night, our beds were the worst, like sleeping on a cardboard box. We conveyed this to the front desk. The next day while we were out fishing, they moved us and all of our things to a new room. The beds were much better. The hotel could use some updating.
- M&M (6/5): Not the best but not the worst! - This is an old hospital converted into a hotel. All rooms are on 3rd floor so have to take and elevator up and down for ice, etc. First floor has other business in it. We did not have any promblems like some people have posted about smells or ghost, etc. HA HA ONly problem we have was the air system and that our room was HOT. There is NO seperate Air Conditioning settings for each room. The whole building is on some sort of central air thing. The Hallways were nice and cool but our room was HOT. The Unit was blowing warm air out and wasn't on heat! We had to keep our door & windows open to cool the room off. Unlike some hotels where internet keeps disconnecting it was pretty steady connection here which was good. Also stated on expedia that 2 double bed rooms had microwave and fridge but our room did not but for the price of the room I can live with that.
- Jason (2/5): Don't stay in this haunted hospital. - Where to begin? I should have done more thorough research prior to booking this hotel. First thing you should know, this place was originally a hospital. The staff told me it hasn't been a hospital for 25 years but the "hospital smell" is unmistakable. The 4' doorways, the smell and decor all say hospital.
Upon checkin, I found no staff present. I waited for over 10 minutes at the front desk. I looked all over, rang the bell 3 times and even called the front desk phone with my cell phone. No answer to the main hotel phone number.
I checked into room 328 and was immediately overwhelmed with the smell of feces. I quickly went back down to the front desk and requested another room. They were gracious and accommodating about giving me another room. This room did not smell but was very small, dated decomand in serous need up an update. My sheets had cigarette burns and the shower was just a tile floor --bring your flip-flops for use during the shower.
Overall, this place seemed like a haunted hospital right out of a scooby-doo episode.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good Hotel Value - This hotel is a bit quirky as it was a hospital that was converted to a hotel. The building has wide hallways with curbs that previously kept the carts from banging into the walls. The elevators are deep so the gurneys could be wheeled in....and the rooms are hospital room sized. The showers and bathrooms are hospital design with tile, stainless handrails and large industural drains in the shower. The lower floors are offices for attorneys, Doctors and orginaizations. There is limited parking in the front and the rear parking lot is big - the rear entrance used to be the Emergency Room access and looks like it.
We enjoy the hotel and have stayed here several times before. It is a good value and is very clean and the staff is very friendly and efficient about checking you in and out. We were not bothered by any traffic noise and we slept great.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Fits the bill - GREAT PLACE TO UNWIND FROM FISHING TRIP.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Poor - Try to avoid it.
- Arthur (4/5): COnvenient, but... - Room was small, building confusing, steakhouse just passable. Still, for a one nighter it ws okay.
- Christine (8/5): Pleasantly surprised - I was pleasantly surprised at this hotel. It was clean and the staff was great! We ended up taking our son to the ER in the middle of the night. I told the second shift night person that we needed fresh linens for the rollaway bed since our son had gotten sick all over them. When we got back at 4am, everything was sitting outside our door along with bags and odor spray.
The hotel only had a queen bed available so we needed a rollaway. I wish as people checked out, they would have offered us a larger room with 2 beds. It would have made our stay more comfortable. It was very crowded as our son was sick but again, the staff was great! And pleasantly surprised, this hotel was nicer than I expected for it being older.
- bob (2/5): A converted old hospital. It felt really bad and looked worse. - A converted old hospital. It felt really bad and looked worse.
- conrad (6/5): clean, ample ,and employees friendly. would stay again. - Mattresses were somewhat lumpy and pillows were insufficiently filled. Two pillows were not enougn to sleep well with, This was the third time we had stayed there and is still probably one of the better bargains for this market. There were two other motels in the area that we refused to stay at even though they were cheaper. Room was clean, linens also clean and changed daily. Room attendants did a good job and all employes were friendly. We would stay there again especially with a fe improvements.
- Kelly (8/5): Good motel for the money. - Rooms are a little compact but reasonably priced. Fairly good location in relationship to other services. Friendly staff. Quick service.
- lisa (4/5): very not impressed - This hotel received exellency ratings until 2007. They have let things slip. The building could use some TLC.You know what they say you get what you pay for.I'll make sure I book my next trip early.(somewhere else)
Management needs to spend a little money on new mattresses and new iron it was also burnt.
- Verified traveler (2/5): STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!! - Old Hospital. Cardboard matresses. Slip in your car, you will get more rest.
