Guest Reviews
- Christina (10/5): Breathtaking views. - Wonderful hotel. Beautiful view. Breathtaking.
Just difficult to climb up the hill so recommend taking a taxi.
- Esteban (10/5): - Great place to rest and relax. The view is great and the staff is outstanding. My wife and children had to leave really early to catch a train and they setup a table for them to have breakfast, even when it was outside their usual time. Is a great hotel to experience St. Moritz without having to pay that premium hotel experience but still enjoy the best of Swiss hospitality.
- Yoinc_Ec (10/5): Swiss hospitality at its best without that premium price. - Great place to rest and relax. The view is great and the staff is outstanding. - Vipul (10/5): - Since we knew the hotel was close to the railway station, we called for directions after exiting from the station. The staff walked halfway to the station, greeted us and brought us to the reception desk. The check in was smooth. The staff provided valuable information on the neighborhood and places for dinner. The best reception and check in in Switzerland.
- 190christye (10/5): Beautiful hotel stunning view - Excellent hotel in a beautiful location. Spotlessly clean, very friendly staff. Very welcome after a long day on the road with car trouble. Breakfast was abundant and good, I can only imagine how fabulous it is in the wintertime. Location a tad remote but totally worth it
- Christina (10/5): - This hotel was spotlessly clean, the staff was super friendly and helpful. Beautiful place
- Annabelle (10/5): - I agonized about which area of St. Moritz to stay in. As we were there to ski, I chose this ski in and out property to maximize our one full day on the slopes. I couldn't have chosen better. Our double room was perfect. Also, we speak Italian, so we were pleasantly surprised to find out the gregarious, very personable owner and his staff were Italian. Like the saying goes, "it's not a party if it's not at Salastrains"... It was definitely a party! Grazie mille Signor Grillo dell'ospitalità eccezionale!
- Coxjoun75 (2/5): Very bad experience - Relying on their unique location, the owners of this hotel are totally neglecting their guests.
Outdated facilities
Uncomfortable bedding
Bathroom cleanliness (black toilet bowl)
No lobby or common spaces
Noise from early morning
Elevator out of order
No reliable Internet service
- ToujoursLaRoute (6/5): Nice place, very average food - The set up of the place is really great, also the position, and you really think you are lucky to have a table. But the food was big deception (for instance my potato was undercooked and my wurst burned...), which was quite a shock for me considering the aspect of the restaurant. Prices at roof, really do not worth.
- Fritz (8/5): - idyllisch ! Sehr freundliches Personal !!
- Vacation589777 (2/5): Rude staff - awful expressed - We sat at a free table on the terrace and tried to order 2 beers after a day on the slopes. Because we were not looking glamorous/ dressed up / plastic, we were not served whereas everyone else around us was. Totally ignored, made to feel totally unwelcome in the extreme. We left , don't cone here unless you are their type (fur clad and surgically enhanced)
- Verified traveler (8/5): - So peaceful & relaxing...
- Jkausar (4/5): Cool and unfriendly treat - I read someone’s reviews regarding this hotel . At booking time of the hotel my husband did it . When we both get down from train went to checked with information. They said it is in high level. You can avail cable car as transport at day time. But car is only way . He was panicking after listening that . We tried to call booking com when we reached there. He was very down . Whether we stay or not stay does not hotel staff matters . I understand..They thought we are joking . But later we tried to control and nice with them . I told my husband it is family run hotel … be cool , digest your high sickness. Where ever he goes with me avoid cable car . This morning we checked out the lady receptionist was mentioned it twice you had already paid for two nights. She mentioned that 200 meters high from city is not nothing . No one understand what type sickness is even sometimes me . I personally didn’t like it . Someone’s comfort is main issue here. It is Italian people who run the hotel. They are not friendly at all .
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Einmalige Lage, entsprechend Superaussicht.
- Jnelson_11 (10/5): Simply fantastic - Cozy family run hotel on the slopes (by the Salastrain lift). Authentic, reasonable for St. Moritz and perfectly situated above the hub bub for an amazing Swiss alpine experience. After breakfast, pop your skis on and hit the perfectly groomed slopes. The ski area is arguably one of the best in Switzerland with something for everyone. The staff is charming and understands what it means to be hospitable--the restaurant is excellent with a great Swiss and Italian favorites. The terrace is magnificent with music, great drinks, sun, and a view (blue sky days are the norm here).
What more to say?--once you stay here you will spend the rest of the year figuring out how to get back!
- Linghui (6/5): 4.5 - Beautiful views! Room is clean and staff very helpful , only thing from me I’m a light sleeper , they have bar and restaurant under my room, I didn’t get a good sleep and rest during the stay, it just me. Awesome ski- and ski-out !
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing views of the mountains from the room. Great food in the restaurant
- Fairtourist (8/5): Made for people who loves skiing - In this hotel is everything you need for short skiing weekend. Amazing view, lifts, ski rental, ski school, kids area, popular ski teracce with good food and service are on site. Rooms are not latest fashion but works for the purpose.
It is only less than 10min to city so it is not big deal to go there for shopping or have even dinner there. If you want easy access to slopes, can easily stop at hotel during skiing date and want to ski to your hotel after ski day at slopes then this hotel is for you.
- Jn14000009 (10/5): Fabulous Hotel, Incredible Setting - Everything about this place is right--
The location is perfect--up above the town at the mid-station level near the Salastrain lift on Corviglia side of the valley. You literally put on your skis and ski down to the Salastrain lift that takes you up to the higher valleys. The skiing is incredible--the equipment is great, the slopes are varied and well groomed and there is plenty of off-piste for those who are more adventurous. The skiers are excellent and very polite. The terrain is high alpine at its best and the views are awe inspiring.
The Hotel is traditional--if you want concrete and iron and glass then you should go somewhere else. It has a beautiful alpine terrace with a great view over the valley. There is a small cozy drinks tent for apres or during ski. The restaurant is cozy as well--I loved the spaghetti bolognese--fantastic. I also enjoyed the simple but hearty breakfast that included eggs and other Swiss breakfast fare.
The rooms are simple and traditional as well--I was happy with my single--decent bathroom, comfortable bed, closet, desk--what more do you need when the slopes beckon?
The service was family style and personal--when I left my favorite shoes they found them and were kind enough to ship them. They arranged transport and check in and check out was flawless. Smiles all around.
Great spot--I can't wait to go back and get some great food and skiing in..
- Roberto (8/5): Perfect for an appassionate skier - Great place for ski-in ski-out. No frills hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel has a great view. It is exactly what we were looking for when decided for this hotel. Very clean room and it is on the top of the mountain. Woke up with the sounds of the bells hanging from the cow's neck. The hotel was very quite, due to the in between seasons. Breakfast was very good. The staff was very helpful even though we did not see anyone on the front desk for most of our time there. We will certainly go back.
- BEAntw (10/5): Top location, 5 star service - I was a bit scared about staying at this hotel after seeing pictures of older looking rooms and especially bathroom, but I couldn't have enjoyed more staying here. The location is just excellent if you are a skier. You can ski-in/out, ski school is just in front and the restaurant of the hotel is a lunch hot spot. The view from the room is spectacular. If you want to go to town it takes you just 5 minutes by car. Yes, the rooms are very basic but everything is spotless and actually you really don't need more for a sporty holiday. I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else if I return to St. Moritz.
- Peter (8/5): Commanding view! - Lovely staff. Very out-of-season so I can't comment on ambience, but the staff were very friendly and anxious to make my stay as pleasant as possible. A stunning location high up on the slopes, with a short car or taxi required to get to St Moritz town.
- ashutosh (8/5): - The hotel is on a mountain top with stunning views. It is a little far from the town and but accessible by rope ways and taxis. The owners were very nice, welcoming and took care of us. They even provided a free drop off at the train station. Winter here might be even more exciting as the hotel is right on the ski slopes.
- MrsSimmo12 (10/5): Lunch in the sun - We have been going to this wonderful hotel for years. We ski in the morning, then meet for lunch here on the terrace. It is great for people watching, the service is good, the food yummy. If we can be bothered we might ski in the afternoon, or get stuck into a good bottle of wine then take the funicular back to town. Salastrains is brilliantly located half way up the funicular, you can walk from there or take a horse drawn carriage. We highly recommend it.
- AndrewO168 (10/5): Fantastic venue for lunch - As a family we have been using the Hotel Salastrains for lunch when we are in St. Moritz for many years. The atmosphere, service, food and location are all of the highest standard. Earlier this year on a short Cresta trip we were lucky enough to enjoy wonderful sunny weather in the Engandine Valley. Our daughter and her boyfriend went skiing and we arranged to meet for lunch at Salastrains which is immediately adjacent to the ski slopes. My wife and her friend undertook the fairly arduous but incredibly scenic walk from the village to the restaurant whilst I took a cab directly to the front door. An alternative is to take the furnicula to the first station and walk or take a horse drawn carriage.
The welcome at the restaurant from the owner was effusive and after drinks in the comfortable loungers outside the restaurant we had an excellent long lunch in a packed restaurant and were serenaded by a first class singer and accompanist. The trip back to St M in a horse drawn carriage was expensive but worthwhile and we decided to repeat the trip the following day. It is also possible to ski down to the village through the trees.
The restaurant is not cheap (nothing is in St M!) but the experience is outstanding and worth a visit if only from the people watching opportunities!
- 414derrickd (10/5): Holiday - This hotel is the best location for skiing and when you are with childeren. The view on the mountains and the childeren ski garden is wonderful. The staff is very friendly and the food is delicious. We had a wonderfull holiday on the top of the world. We are coming back next year!!
- lopalops (8/5): A Fabulous Little Place on Top of the Mountain - It was my son's birthday and we wanted to go up to St Moritz but not spend 500 CHF for a room since we were a big group. I decided to try the Hotel Salastrains as we love the Corviglia Mountain and always go there for walks. It was a fabulous weekend! The rooms are very simple, small but clean. They could do with a renovation but when you look at the view outside they immediately seem less shabby! The welcoming of the staff and how they too care of us made up for any room imperfection. They treated us like family: making special dishes for my fussy kids, bringing the food up to the room for my nanny, and served us a spectacular dinner Friday night. Their restaurant is really good and very popular. They always have people and serve food and drinks at any time (except from 5.30 to 6.30). There are large groups that come for drinks and stay on for dinner and sit there for hours in the sun. The owners come and shake you hand and introduce themselves and then sit with a huge table of friends, eating and drinking. So the atmosphere was jovial and fun. They have a outside restaurant and an inside, also very cute. You can eat or have drinks and lounge. Having breakfast in the sun at 2500 meters is priceless! In front there are mountains and fields and you can hear the cows bells in the morning as they go up the mountain. A lovely sound to wake up to! My kids were happy because there is a playground in front of the hotel, and my dogs were happy not to have to be on a lead! We took long walks up the Corviglia and ate very well. A memorable weekend!
- Chehofff (10/5): The Best in St.Moritz for skiing - The hotel located on the hill over the St.Moritz city. If you want to go to the city, you should take tram-funicular, it takes one station and about 5 minutes. But the most important advantage of hotel's location is special for skiing. Hotel located quite close to pistes and chairlifts. After skiing you can without any stop slide down directly from hill to hotel's door.
Rooms are clean, warm and comfortable. Restaurant and breakfast is really great. Live music every-night. Staff is incredible.
Strongly recommend, if you looking for stay to skiing in St.Moritz.
Hidden gem!!!!!
- WorldAdventurer_7 (6/5): Very far from the city center but a nice place to get away from it all - We were looking for someplace to stay in St Moritz last minute that wasn't too expensive and had a nice view. This place definitely has the latter, albeit only accessible by car at the top of the hill. Prices weren't too bad either taking into consideration that all of Switzerland is expensive.
