Guest Reviews
- Olivia (4/5): -
- Noelia abigail (2/5): To be improved - Location Dirty bathroom and kitchen.
People making noise in the hallways after midnight
- Richard Andrew (7/5): Good place to chill out , walking distance to city, - Allways a relaxed atmospere, with a few chickens, in the garden, to start the day. Quite a busy road, so if your a light sleeper, might be a problem.
- Rebuffo (9/5): Very good stay! The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable, and the overall experience was pleasant. -

- Hassan (8/5): Highly recommended. - Spacious / powerful shower / Electric code for the door.
- Lucile (10/5): Perfect - Cosy and clean, it’s a pretty small hostel that makes you feel at home ! The outside is great, the kitchen and showers are super convenient and clean. Loved it !
- Naoki (6/5): Pleasant -
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - everything
- Xiao (10/5): Exceptional -
- 민영 (2/5): Very poor -
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - The friendly atmosphere and the garden wad lovely too to relax in
- Alessio (8/5): Very good -
- Lilian (4/5): Disappointing - Location was good for walking to/from the city centre.
Good communication from the property although there was very little presence on-site. Bunks, mattresses, bedding were all of poor quality - it would be nice to have a basic curtain on each bunk. No other furniture in the rooms or lockers/shelves for bags. I ended up staying on a friend's couch one of the nights as it was too hot and uncomfortable in my bunk room.
There was only one women's toilet and shower, which meant that there was almost always a queue.
Kitchen looked and smelt dirty, place in general needs some TLC
- Kathleen (8/5): Very High Price - I asked for a bottom bunk and got one! But it was by accident, not with the help of the staff. The person I had been communicating with before I arrived greeted me by name and was friendly. There were two quiet rooms where I could sit comfortably and work on my computer. It was pretty far away from the bus station.
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - All fab
- Stewart (8/5): Good - Relaxed ,good location ,the garden Nil
- Fine (8/5): Very good - Really comfy beds. Lots of nice people. The shower curtain was a littel moldy. Pots and Pans in bad shape.
- Robert (8/5): Very good - Kitchen, Backyard, Chicken Only one shower for people 1,75m+
- Sachin (8/5): Very good -
- Beth (8/5): I really enjoyed my stay and would happily return. - Kitchen was clean and well-set up. Room was comfortable. I really liked the backyard, and it's resident chicken! Computer room was very convenient. Communication with staff by email was a bit difficult, but in person was very friendly.
Finding my way from the airport to the backpackers was quite difficult and there was not helpful information on the listing to refer to. It would have been good to know in advance that there are no buses to the backpackers. It's about 10 - 15 minutes walk from the central bus station, but an easy flat walk.
- Bryan (10/5): Relaxing, clean, safe, friendly place - Chickens! General atmosphere was very homely. The lock on the dorm room (7) was a little sticky and difficult to open at times
- Annelie (7/5): Good -
- Chantelle (1/5): Couldn't check in, no refund either -
- Vanshika (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tinman (10/5): Exceptional - parkMy new home away from home.
I live near to Christchurch, and there are times I must stay in Christchurch.
This is so homely, and so close to the CBD, and lovely Hagley Park.
- Anett (7/5): Good -
- Francesca (4/5): Disappointing -
- Shannon (8/5): Looks like a place that caters more to locals, and I mean it in a good way. But a place is a place - SF2 cabinet & Netflix in the TV room, property cater more for locals due to it's old look inside, , good garden out the back & the kitchen showed the recipes for 3 of kiwi made foods Only 2 showers were going as 1 was out of order. This place ain't bad but may have to book a private room when I return again
- Philipp (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (4/5): Overpriced and unclean - Nice backyard and patio area Bathrooms were small, unclean and smelled awful
Kitchen was unclean, my food was stolen multiple times
- Zsófia (8/5): Very good -
- Adam (5/5): Passable - Friendly staff and others staying there. Cleanliness of bedsheets, kitchen.
- Deisy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jonathan (9/5): Superb - It was my place for a long term stay. The bed was very nice and there were some plugs, USB connections, a small bag and a night light that simplified my life. I slept in a 4 beds room, so I never felt overwhelmed for the number of people. The backyard garden was lovely and the staff was very kind. The space in the kitchen is reduced and it's difficult to have space in the only one fridge. It would be nice have a good sponge for washing the dishes.
- Joni (10/5): Great host~ - Warm and friendly atmosphere NA
- Wilnny (10/5): I highly recommend backpackers who come to Christchurch for solo travel to stay in this hostel! - The public area, room, and toilet are comfortable and tidy, and their hostel has a bedroom toilet exclusively for women, so you don't have to worry about privacy and safety。
- Diego (10/5): Exceptional - Everything great, was the 2nd time in around the world and definitely coming back everytime i go to Christchurch
- Satoshi (6/5): Pleasant -
- Alex (8/5): Very good -
- Radka (5/5): There are better places out there - Beds have individual lights and sockets. I do not recommend this hostel, only if you really need just a sleepover. All spaces are very small, rooms don't even have as basic thing as a rubbish bin, of course no lockers. Bathroom ran out of toilet paper, and it has no soap. Unisex bathroom is disgustingly dirty... Kitchen tends to get dirty, too. Check-out is at 9.30 am!!! No common room or lounge except the kitchen. Most people seem to live there permanently, so not much of a traveller spirit.
- Luca (7/5): Helpful manager - Very helpful manager, helped me to book the taxi for the night ride to the airport Small kitchen, people liked party there
- Jazmin (1/5): party house - got my room key and it said no smoking and no alcohol then went out and got back to a party in the kitchen where the staff and guests were drinking and were smoking with music up and i cant not get steep at all and i won't stay naiad night where i was booked for two night i pay for i stayed one night
- Richard (8/5): Good base camp for Christchurch, if you have a push bike or csr, - Self catering, although, there was tea and coffee free.good kitchen facilities.good showers clean, toilets. Not much wrong with the hostel, used it three times now, and would recommend it to others.
- Doris (10/5): I had a very relaxing stay. - Great location, nice facility
- Jeanne (7/5): Good -
- Max (6/5): Pleasant -
- Valerie (8/5): Very good -
- N (5/5): Passable - It had everything you need for a basic stay, shower/toilets on bottom and 1st floor, equipped kitchen, fridge in the private double. Not too far to walk to town. Easy fixes to make the room better - move the mirror out from behind the TV, a full length would be better. The room has no hooks or racks to hang wet coats or towels. 2 of the 3 nights there were people talking really loudly in the kitchen / corridor at 2.30-3.30am despite the signs. In general the hostel is a little run down.
- Mary (7/5): Had a great stay but room for improvement - see previous notes - Liked the fact that the manager invited me out for a bit of a stretch class in the afternoon - good times Didn't like the fact that the girl who cleaned the hostel cleaned the kitchen between 6.30 - 7.30 am when most people have breakfast and then cleans the bathroom from 7.30 - 8.30 am when most people have showers. This does not make any sense at all especially when guests are travelling for flights, tours etc
- Pitch (7/5): pretty good, will recommend to peers. - reasonable price and good location
- Bronwyn (10/5): A lovely homely place to stay, very central. - Excellent location in the centre of Christchurch, bus stop just round the corner, 5 minute's walk. Excellent customer service, Manager / Owner very helpful and will go out of his way to ensure you have the perfect stay. Clean bathrooms, plenty of hot water for showers. Clean and tidy kitchens. Clean rooms with a comfortable bed. I loved the back garden and BBQ area the Manager / Owner has developed, a very homely, relaxing and comfortable place to spend the evening and meet up with fellow travelers from around the world. The next time I am in Christchurch I shall be back to stay at this hostel and shall recommend this accommodation to others while holidaying in Christchurch. No complaints
- Ginger (6/5): Pleasant - It was okay for one night only. I wouldn't want to stay longer. Kitchen was okay so far.
Small computer room where the luggage was stored after check-out. No lockers or cupboards in the rooms to store the luggage. Not really much showers or toilets - luckily I didn't made the experience of the rush hour in the morning :)
- Kate (9/5): Superb -
- Fuszard (8/5): Very good - Some ware to stay in christchurch
- Lucia (3/5): Disappointing - Located to 20 minutes to the city centre, with a good garden and wide kitchen. Very dirty, the bathroom was two consecutive days without cleaning with the same beard hair on the floor. Only one bathroom for all rooms in the first floor. No heaters in the room so it's quite cold. In the room there are 4 blue led lights that can and will disturb your sleep. Not a comfortable bed. When we were having breakfast in the kitchen, the guy at the reception decided to clean the floor with smelly lye. Very obsesionate with recycling. If you want to smoke you have to walk 20 metres from the front door, is not allowed to smoke in the backyard or in the parking area. Alcohol is not allowed not even a beer or a glass of wine while having dinner.
- Inon (8/5): Very good -
- Percy (9/5): Superb - Yes it was good the only issue was i had an issue finding the location however i got help from the location transit information service they told me what bus to catch and take to this location than had the bus driver to let me know when i get near so than i found this location The location was to difficult to fine but than i managed to find the hostel i just remembered the street's to walk down to the downtown area and back to the hostel other than that nothing with the accommodation hostel it selt everything was good
- Alex (7/5): Good -
- Kath (8/5): Very good -
- Joan (3/5): Poor -
- Talanstan (8/5): Very good -
- Kristy (5/5): Passable -
- Baldy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ping (10/5): Really enjoyed my stay at the backpackers, very clean too - The location is easy to get around to library, shopping center. It is also close to bus stop which is only a 3-5mins walk.
- Joseph (5/5): Below average - Good location to walk into the city Bedroom and bathroom were not clean. Couldn't see any staff on site to deal with any issues. Bed springs weren't great either.
- Kartik (4/5): Disappointing - Bunk Bed making noises
- William (6/5): Pleasant -
- Nadja (5/5): average - the host is great and the atmosphere is home-like. it is very cold in the room and the building itself - it was the reason why I left. The room didn't look like on the photo. to be honest - there are better hostels in Christchurch and they don't cost much more than this one.
- Carla (6/5): Pleasant - Location
Bathroom was clean Kitchen wasn't very clean
No handwash in the female toilet
- Ijaz (7/5): Good -
- Nivya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Basu (8/5): Very good -
- Chloe (2/5): felt uncomfortable wouldn’t come back -
- Renee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Benjamin (7/5): Good -
- Sarah (7/5): Big comfy rooms, nice place - Really great big rooms. The staff were helpful and kind, and it was good value for money. The garden was lovely though it was too cold for us to enjoy it properly. Loud music playing late into the evening above our room made it difficult to sleep when we had an early flight. It would be good to add more plates and bowls to the kitchen.
