Guest Reviews
- Daniel (10/5): - Honestly this place was great. I saw birds roght out my patio window and looked out to the mountains. It was a great value and the owner and his family were very friendly and welcoming. Take the short hike to the top of the property and enjoy an amazing view. This was such a cool place to stay. The room was extremely comfortable.
- Rachel (10/5): - We had such a lovely stay at Belcruz. When we arrived, Randall welcomed us with a great explanation of where to go in Monteverde and took us to our room. The room was great - clean, comfortable bed, spacious, great view. Breakfast was delicious. We needed to plan our next move after checkout, and Randall made us drinks while we sat in the restaurant/lobby and planned - and saw a few cool birds right out the window. Plus, we got great hand made bird ornaments that his wife and daughter make on site - definitely the coolest gifts we saw in Costa Rica. Wish we could have eaten dinner, too!
- Daniel (8/5): - Restaurant was closed.
- Melissa (10/5): - So it’s not easy to drive here. Somehow Waze took us on a gravel road for miles it wasn’t easy to drive. So just make sure you get directions on the pave road. It’s beautiful and serenity kicks in. The manager is extremely nice and his dog is the best!
- Marjorie (10/5): Una estadía relajante. - Excelente, es un hotel pequeñito pero tiene áreas de conservación hermosas, las habitaciones estaban bien y la vista muy hermosa. Muy tranquila, pudimos descansar.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good for birds! - Great location, excellent for birding with a few trails on site. Breakfast was included and was very good. No AC but room was fine with just a fan (in May). Did have a small fridge as well.
- Laura (10/5): Good for birds! - Great location, excellent for birding with a few trails. Breakfast was included and was very good. No AC but room was fine with just a fan (in May). Did have a small fridge as well.
- Sandra (10/5): Amazing. - We had a spectacular stay at Belcruz. Randall and his team are gracious hosts. The property is BEAUTIFUL. Dinner at the hotel was a highlight of our trip. Would 100% recommend this hidden gem, can’t wait to return on our next trip.
- Grant (10/5): - This hotel was a wonderful surprise and exceeded our expectations. It was a little out of town, but we had a rental car so no issue. The host was fantastic and very helpful, the room was spectacular, and the walk between the room and the restaurant was amazing.
We spotted more wildlife in the short walk than our two hour tour through the Monteverde cloud forest(plus we weren’t overwhelmed by hoarded of tourists bussed in from elsewhere). We spotted toucans, parrots, toucanets, a motmot, even a raccoon, and of course the curious monkeys from the restaurant.
It was a great stay, and if we can ever afford to visit Costa Rica again, this hotel will be on our list of places to stay again.
- Katrina (10/5): - We loved our stay here! Everything was clean, and the property is beautiful to walk. The owner and his family are so kind and friendly. Every morning for breakfast, we would watch the monkeys in the trees that would come right up to the window where we sat.
You won’t be disappointed here!
- Connie (8/5): - My first impression was our hotel room was a bit, “dated” but, the rooms were spacious and clean. There was one firm mattress and 1 softer one. We had an incredible view from our balcony. We got some beautiful sunset pictures as suggested by the front desk clerk for us to take a five minute walk up the mountain at sunset. We had one of our suppers at the hotel restaurant and both our dishes were fabulous! The breakfast meal was very nice and while having our breakfast this morning we had the pleasure of being entertained by monkeys right outside our window.
- Weili (10/5): - The owner is very informative, food in his restaurant was excellent,Room was clean, property with beautiful mountain view, will recommend this property to friends
- Lori (10/5): - Excellent hospitality and food in this family-run business. The views are stunning and the rooms spacious and clean. This place was one of the highlights of our trip.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Incredible place with great views and amazing food - We had an INCREDIBLE time at Belcruz! The owner is so welcoming, accommodating, kind, etc. and the property is spectacularly beautiful. Plus, the food is amazing! We opted to have dinner there and it was the best meal of our 10 day Costa Rica trip! I can’t reccomend this place enough! Support this family business and stay at Belcruz- you won’t be disappointed!
- Ann (10/5): - The staff was very helpful and pleasant. Helped arrange tours and activities. Breakfast was fresh and filling. Don't miss out on delicious dinners and great atmosphere. Take time to explore extensive trails on the property with lovely views. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Only recommendation is more lighting in rooms, especially bathrooms.
- Corinne (10/5): - Everything about Belcruz was great! We stayed in a standard double room with our son. The rooms were clean and spacious with a gorgeous view of mountains and rainbows every morning. The beds were on the harder side but that would be our only compliant. The breakfast was great every day (served from 6-9am I think). The owner Randall also really added to our experience. It's a family run business that he started. He helped us book our tours when we arrived (don't wait to book anything - do it when you arrive or they might be full for the day). We had a car so it only took 5mins to drive to Santa Elena and maybe 25mins to Monteverde Cloud Forest. Great location.
- Marta (10/5): - WOW. The pictures do not do this place justice! I was so impressed, not only with the place itself but also with the breakfast and attentiveness of the staff. I wish I lived closer to Costa Rica so I could come visit here more often.
- Donna (10/5): - Great place to stay
- Ashutosh (10/5): - Outstanding staff and a very homely feel. Amazing views from the property
- Amandine (10/5): - I had a great time at belcruz B&B. Randall was very helpful before and during the trip, It’s a family owner B&B and they were all very pleasant. The food was great too and everything was clean. Highly recommend
- Joeline (10/5): Amazing hosts and views - Our stay at Belcruz was fantastic! Randall was the sweetest host- very helpful, informative, and attentive! His son was also sweet and helpful. The views from the room were breathtaking. There were also beautiful trails on the property. I wish my stay was longer. I highly recommend you stay here!
- Dinesh (10/5): - Great staff and service!
- Tomoko (8/5): - Nice property with a great view. Close enough to everything Monteverde has to offer. Breakfast was outstanding (homemade granola was awesome!) Highly recommend it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a room with a beautiful view on the mountain and at night, wow ! the view was extraordinary. Room was large and clean with a large bathroom. The restaurant offers good food. Randall, fluent English, and family were very sympathetic and useful.
- Kathleen (10/5): - Great location for bird watching from the back porch! The owner is very helpful with identifying which birds you see and has binoculars on hand. Hummingbirds are frequent. Our room was clean and comfortable and we enjoyed sitting on our porch overlooking the beautiful view. If you don't bring a car (we didn't), there is a walk between the office/restaurant and the room. About 50 yards through woods and on a bridge over a creek. We enjoyed Santa Elena and the owner was also very helpful in planning excursions.
- Judy (10/5): - Great find. Cute cabins with great views of the hills. Room was very clean and spacious. The owner and his wife welcomed us with a cup of coffee when we arrived and gave great recommendations on what to do and where to eat. He even called to help make reservations for the activities we wanted to do. They have a restaurant with nice views where you can watch the hummingbirds while you enjoy the complimentary breakfast. At the back of the restaurant is a short trail that leads back to the cabins
- Verified traveler (10/5): - View is amazing. Only negative is the noise from nearby road
- jia (10/5): Great hotel - we stayed four nights in Belcruz B & B in January 2020, and we were very happy With our stay. The cabin was very spacious and beautiful. The free breakfast was delicious. The hotel was not inside the town, so we were a little concerned first since we did not have a car, but it turned out that the hotel was very close to all tour places. Randall was so accommodating. He gave us a lot of great suggestions what to do and arranged all tours for us. We had awesome time. Randall and his family was always eager to help and provided us five star services. We highly highly recommend this place!

- Verified traveler (10/5): - The place is located away from the hustle of the main town. The room is neat and clean with a fridge and electric kettle. The view from the balcony of the mountains and the valley is awesome. Beautiful flowers outside the balcony as you sit and enjoy the sunshine on a bright day. The walk to the restaurant for Breakfast each morning was a unique way to start your day. Only drawback is that wifi in the rooms need to be better. Would go back again and definitely recommend this place.
- Andrew (8/5): Quaint Hotel near Monteverde - Quaint Hotel/B&B near Monteverde. The owners are extremely nice and helpful, breakfast is included and the views are fantastic. It's about a 10 minute drive to "downtown" Monteverde. It doesn't have all the creature comforts of a luxury hotel, but you can't beat it for the price.
- Prasad (8/5): - Beautiful mountain views, private trail up the mountain, two room cottage that is beautiful by itself, very quiet and remote from the noises of traffic
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The rooms really need TV. The B&B is far from town and nights are long and dark. Other than that, this place is paradise on earth. We saw more wild life from our cabin porch than all the tours we took. It was amazing! The owner and his family are wonderful and that is an understatement! Great breakfasts, we wish we could live there! Just can't say enough about our experience with these fine people!
- Marie-Francoise (10/5): Worth more than what we paid - You certainly get your money's worth at Belcruz. We had a unit with 2 queen beds in 2 rooms separated by a wall and curtain, a large bathroom, a fridge, a table with 4 chairs, a porch with 2 comfortable wooden armchairs. I loved that it was pitch dark when all lights were turned off. Complimentary coffee or tea upon arrival, we had a generous and very tasty lunch. We rushed our breakfast because we had to get to a tour, but what we had was very nice and plentiful. The hosts were super friendly and helpful. They booked reservations at a nearby coffee/chocolate/sugar plantation and to the cloud forest reserve. Happy with both. You could either drive from the building of the rooms to the reception and restaurant, or walk through a little path in the woods and over a creek. Charming! WiFi and internet were fine. No TV which I did not miss! The only possible negative would be that the noise from the road carries up to the rooms, so I heard a couple of loud motorcycles going up the road early in the morning. But my guess is that you find a lodging far removed from the road (hard since the slopes are very steep), this will be a common occurrence in the area. Be sure to get a car with high clearance, preferably 4WD, the roads to Monteverde are as bad as their reputation! Getting to the Belcruz rooms by car is no exception.
- Shari (10/5): Bel Cruz - It was amazing. Great couple family owned and operated.Lovely free breakfast and great dinners. Lots to do and see. Would go back there in a minute. Highly recommended.
- Rebecca (8/5): As advertised - Nice cabins and pool area - but we were awakened one morning by loud machinery. Turns out there was something wrong with the water and they had to shut it off. Stuff happens, I get it. But when I went to talk to the Guy at the front desk on Friday morning, he was unapologetic and offered no options for making coffee, or providing drinking water, (and certainly an awkward bathroom situation for our family). He was pretty condescending about the whole thing, simply stating that he knew there was no water, did not know when it would be turned on, and it was out of his control. If he had simply offered bottled water and dropped The attitude I would have no complaints about our stay. The rest of the staff was very friendly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place to stay - Gorgeous views of mountains and the owners are the greatest, will definitely go back
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Place to Stay - Extremely clean and comfy. They made us feel at home from the first minute. Great breakfast. Don't hesitate on staying here.
- Janie (10/5): Calm, serene and cozy - Randall made us feel like family, the morning lattes, yummy breakfast and cozy cabin feel. He helped make arrangements for the El Trapiche coffee tour ( don't miss this)
- Brian & Nicole (10/5): Quiet escape in a jungle setting - We truly enjoyed our stay at Belcruz. The accommodation was spacious, clean and bright. It has a great view of the surrounding hills and offers the opportunity to relax or explore the walking trails on the property. Great value for the money.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Felt like home - The owner and family were amazing. Extremely hospitable. There were humming birds everywhere during breakfast. It was definitely a highlight of our trip.
- deb (10/5): Great little B&B - We stayed for two nights. Rooms are very basic as you would expect with the price. The location was perfect. Grounds had beautiful walking trails to and from the rooms and the reception area. We saw wonderful hummingbirds and a toucan at breakfast. Randal and family were very helpful in helping with tours and activities. Breakfast was good as was the one dinner we had at the hotel. We were stay again for sure.
- Patrick (10/5): Awesome Experience - This is a small area in the mountains, sublime and beautiful. The property is on the owner's hillside farm. He planted over 300 trees that attract every bird you would ever want to see in Costa Rica, and he's more than happy to point them out to you, let you borrow his binoculars, and supply you with free coffee and great service all day. Not really a bnb (which is great) because the rooms are up on a hill, a short trail through coffee trees, banana trees and sugar cane. My wife and I felt so comfortable here and I'm glad we booked with them.
- Steve (10/5): What a great place! Outstanding hospitality! - We discovered this "gem" at the last minute for our 3 days in Monte Verde. What an excellent find! Great food, nice clean rooms and outstanding hospitality. Randall and his family went out of their way to ensure our comfort and needs were met. The friendly, helpful atmosphere was so much appreciated. The home cooked meals at this quaint inn were excellent. The owners even helped us spot our first "Toucan" in the wild right outside the door! We were extremely pleased with our stay and it exceeded our expectations.
- don (8/5): On the way from Arenal to Montverde - Nice place in a quiet neighborhood. Great breakfast and nice staff. No stores nearby but we were able to find the place as we stumbled upon it driving from La Fortuna. Gps does not help as the hotel was not listed on it.
- Tom (8/5): Nice B&B just out side of town. - This was a great place to stay. The owner was very accommodating and the views lovely. It's a little difficult to find, even though the office is on the main road, so make sure that you're looking for the sign on the left side of the road on the way into Santa Elena. If you see the driveway to Extremo, you went too far.
- Travelinj (10/5): Views, stars, best breakfast in Costa Rica - Our experience from start to finish with Randall and his family was fantastic! The rooms are lovely, clean and comfortable, the view of the mountains and coffee farm is exquisite. The trails through the property are well lit at night and beautifully maintained. Belcruz is just far enough out of Monteverde proper that you feel like you are in the country but it's close enough to town that you can run in for a drink or meal very easily. The food at Belcruz is delicious. We ate outstanding breakfasts and dinners there on multiple days and enjoyed the hummingbirds and other wildlife that are easily visible from the dining deck. We can't say enough good things about Randall and his family who run everything themselves. They are kind, hospitable, and gracious Spanish teachers. Randall helped us navigate the area and made reservations for us for various tours and attractions around the area that were wonderful. We felt like we had been invited into their family. Belcruz is also an excellent value for most travelers. We hope to return there many more times.
- John (10/5): Nicest People in Costa Rica! - Randall and his family really went above and beyond my expectations! The rates were so reasonable I guess I wasn't expecting to get things like great food, excellent coffee, and a lot of helpful advise. It is a beautiful, magical place. We saw rainbows every day and a moonbow at night. The "free" breakfast is very generous and high quality, delicious food. Randall's homegrown espresso is absolutely the best I have ever had anywhere. He is a very interesting person and we really enjoyed chatting with him. I hope to make it back there someday
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Staff, Room, and Views. - The room was spacious, clean on a beautiful property. The cabins overlook a beautiful valley. There is a cool walk through the forrest to get to the main lodge area with food/coffee/deck. We saw a huge variety of humming birds and other wildlife on the property. The owner is very hospitable and friendly. The food was very solid. Also the price was extremely cheap for what we got. Would go back or recommend to anyone.
- Cheryl (10/5): 2 night getaway from the coast - We booked this room based on reviews in Trip Advisor. We wanted a nice, quiet convenient location to stay for a day trip to Monteverde Cloud Forest. Our drive was 3 hours so we booked 2 nights so we wouldn't have to rush through our sight seeing.
It was a beautiful location, full of lush greenery that attracted more birds than we saw in the cloud forest (which was none).
Our hosts were amazing. Not a detail was missed. Their food was delicious, tour advice was spot on and they answered any questions we had about the area,
We highly recommend them. You won't find better hosts.
- Richard (10/5): Lovely B&B with Wonderful Hosts - From the moment we walked in the door, the proprietor welcomed us with warmth and hospitality. During our stay, he helped us book local wildlife tours and pointed out out tropical birds from the balcony of the main building.
Belacruz includes a restaurant in the main building. We enjoyed some of the best typical Tico food that we had during our trip. Breakfasts were generous and delicious. The lunch and dinner prices were very reasonable.
We enjoyed the grounds for exploring and wildlife viewing. The balcony offers a great place to see hummingbirds and other birds.
Belacruz offers spa services and I had a delightful 1-hour massage just a few steps from my room.
The other guests we met were very nice and we enjoyed their company.
