Guest Reviews
- James (7/5): -
- Karen (9/5): A Very Lovely Stay - I liked the comfortable bed. Overall room was clean, spacious and with a view of mountain out back. I adored the lovely retro bathroom with good water temp/pressure. Also, great service by staff at the office. I could have used some in-room coffee, though there are some great coffee shops nearby.
- Brandon (2/5): - N/A Reception door stays locked, extremely early checkout 10 AM, very expensive for what's offered, the room is not worth the price of the night.
- Sarah (6/5): - Great location. Comfortable bed. I liked that there was a fridge in the room. There were only 2 pillows provided and they were thin and flat.
- Gregg (8/5): - Location was convenient and quiet. Bathroom was small and dated.
- Charles (9/5): -

- RAM2191 (6/5): - Clean room, comfortable bed, adequate space,
- S148FDangies (10/5): Weekend Holiday Trip - Another really nice stay at the Cardinal Inn over Easter weekend
We like to stay in the suite that has the enclosed porch , very peaceful & relaxing.
The room was very clean and nicely furnished. helpful staff upon our arrival.
Thank you for a lovely weekend!
- Lex (9/5): - Great value and wonderful breakfast at the restaurant in town. No coffee maker in the room
- Watts (10/5): Always have a great time. Nice porch to sit and chat. - Room is always very clean. The only thing I would do is put some kind of light in the closet, so you can see. Very quiet and large. Management is very friendly and helpful. No light in the closet.
- Sanchez (8/5): -
- Kevin (10/5): -
- Elizabeth (5/5): Oud en versleten motel. - Lag gunstig op onze route Was al gesloten bij aankomst, moesten bellen om in te kunnen checken.
- Ernest (7/5): -
- Deb (9/5): Convenient, economical, good customer service. - Great heating, lovely hot shower with good water pressure, it was so inexpensive I wasn't expecting much to be honest. Room was very dark with just 1 light.
- Donna (9/5): The property is kept in excellent condition for an older property. - Property manager went above and beyond to make sure I had everything that was needed. Yes, there was record cold. The heater in the room was not able to keep the room very warm. Yes, I could have said something to the manager and probably would have been given a space heater.
- Melissa (8/5): -
- Megan (10/5): Loved staying here everyone was so friendly - Simple check in And friendly staff, clean Slightly outdated
- Patricia (9/5): Very clean room. friendly motel clerk. - Location was excellent for attractions we visited:
Shenandoah National Park & Luray Caverns Door to motel lobby/check in area was locked on our arrival. The reception area was unmanned.I was afraid our reservation was cancelled. I finally saw a phone number posted on door. I called it and a staff member came & unlocked door. I think a sentence to say “If door is locked please call this number.” Or “ be back shortly “.
- Michelle (7/5): Perfect location. Cute 1960's motel. - The room was clean but if you looked closely it wasn't exceptionally clean. We booked here because of the reviews expressing the cleanliness. The bathroom was great and had enough space for all the toiletry bags. This was a huge bonus! The beds were comfortable. The location is convenient to the sights we were there to see. It could have been cleaner. The floors were not that clean. The counters were not clean. The outlets didn't work even though there were plenty. Our shower had horrible soap scum around it. Pillows were really flat. We had to double them to sleep on them.
- CARLTON (8/5): - We were asked to change rooms and the mattress wasn't as comfortable.
- William (10/5): -
- dale (8/5): - THE TV STOPPED WORKING
- Crystal (7/5): Quiet and clean - Quiet and room was clean No towel bar should be in the shower. My husband knocked himself in the head good getting into the shower. The curtain was blocking it
- Kevin (2/5): - We had to pay extra for kitchen which was not mentioned in the details of room. It smelled very musty and we seen cock roaches on walls. The pictures advertised were false, the room looked nothing like what we got. Would not recommend for couple retreat.
- Denise (5/5): It was an OK for 1 night, but wouldn't stay longer. - The price was reasonable and the room was tidy. Room was small. The very basics for lodging. No coffee pot in room. No breakfast. A place to sleep.
- Paulette (8/5): Good value - Very clean and the staff were pleasant. Comfortable beds. Loved the truly vintage pink bathrooms! The A/C unit was loud.
- Donald (10/5): It was great, we loved sitting on the porch in the evening. - It was a great place to stay. We used the honeymoon suite because of the back porch which perfect for our little pup. We were able to put his tie out in the grass for him and we could keep an eye on him. Only thing was the room didn't have it's own coffee maker. We didn't really need to use a full kitchen so we didn't opt for that. But that's the only change I would make.
- Glenn (9/5): - Older INN - a bit nostalgic but rooms were very clean and quiet. Inn was centrally located to all attractions and staff was very friendly.
- Vivian (6/5): It was ok - Location Toilet was too low for my bad knee
Towels were never changed
- Matthew (10/5): -
- Raymond (5/5): - Bed was very uncomfortable. It hurt to sleep on it.
- Kathryn (6/5): - Wifi wouldn’t work, after 3 trips to office we were switched to another room. Room was a bit worn, but clean. AC unit loud.
- CAROL (9/5): - Did not provide breakfast
- Zoeann (10/5): Would love to stay in that room again! Super cute - Very peaceful and quiet. Walking distance to store and restaurants N/A
- Rohan (9/5): -
- Jennifer (7/5): -
- Mark (10/5): A great value option for a stay in the Shenandoah region. - Everything was exactly as advertised - the room looked precisely like the picture on the website. It is very basic, but that's the value proposition. It's also clean with all normal amenities. Honestly everything was exactly what I expected if not better.
- Susan (7/5): - Vijay is so very kind, the housekeeper left soap scum on the shower along with many long dark black hair on the wall of the shower and soap scum on the same shower wall. Manager was informed at 5:00 pm
- Michael (10/5): - It was clean, staff was nice and location was great Nothing
- Lynette (10/5): - The entire vacation. Staff was great. Room was great. Will be returning. Had to leave too soon.
- Jesse (9/5): -
- Alexa (1/5): - the only good thing was the location. it was filthy, mold everywhere, covered in dust, weird stains
- Hong (9/5): -
- Tracey (8/5): Good stay for the cost - Very close to Luray caverns and Shenandoah National Park. Had to call a phone number on the door to get checked in. Towels were all torn up. No coffee maker in the room.
- Cline (1/5): One word TRASH - Absolutely nothing that's why I refused to stay there!!! Everything needs to be better!!!!!
- Paula (8/5): - The Manager/Owner was exceptionally nice. Close to hiking and stored, gas stations. Large room with mountain views in back. A little outdated, a bit of mild in shower. I dont think the price meets the room especially since there was no coffee pot, breakfast etc...
- Stacey (9/5): - Tub and size of the suite Lots of weird locked doors
- Janice (8/5): Happy experience but I wish the room had been a little more spacious. - I've been staying at The Red Cardinal since 1969. I feel a strong sense of nostalgia for staying there. We live coming to Skyline Drive and Lury Caverns. The room was small. No real sitting area. Otherwise we were happy. Love the retro bathrooms...lol
- alves (10/5): -
- Davidson (10/5): -
- Elisabeth (8/5): Welcoming and very clean - The owner/operator is very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. The room was very clean and large ( somewhat dated but we liked it). We will definitely stay again when in the area. Thank you.
- James (1/5): NEVER. EVER. AGAIN. - We wasted $157 because we didn't even get to stay. There was a discrepancy and we weren't able to stay in the room we paid for. Trying to make the best of a bad situation, our family got together for a few moments to meet at the room for some breakfast muffins. In my brief experience at the Inn I noticed a bullet hole in the bathroom window taped over. When we arrived with our muffins and a few family members, the owners came storming to the room. The owners immediately demanded more money because more than 2 people were at the room, granted none of us were staying there even though we paid for a whole night. We left after being harassed and verbally abused by the owner. The owner is a real tool and scumbag. There are PLENTY of other beautiful places in Luray to pick from. This is bottom of the barrel. EVERYTHING!
- Philip (7/5): -
- Alexandre (8/5): -
- Pamela (10/5): The property did everything I needed without breaking the bank. - The room was well maintained and clean with plenty of space. I really appreciated that the parking lot was well lit.
- Paula (5/5): It was fair - The cold floors and the heater needed adjustments
- Scott (8/5): was a pretty ideal spot to stay. - nice view from room, large bathroom, close to everything, no carpeting on floor
- בני (4/5): - נקי ריהוט ישן מקלחת לא מספיק מאובזרת . מחיר יקר מאוד ביחס תמורה
- Sherry (10/5): - Peaceful
- Shari (9/5): We loved it! - The quaintness and convenience were nice. Super nice staff. Room was very clean.
- Strausbaugh (7/5): -
- Christine (2/5): Rather shabby - Not much I rarely give negative reviews, but I did not want another couple headed to Luray being so mislead by their advertisement. The room in the picture looked ok, but the main reason I booked it was because it had a screened in porch where we could sit and enjoy the evening. We were so disappointed in the establishment and overall rundown condition of this "special" room with screened in porch that we left even though we could not get our money back. Walking up to the steps for the room, there was a pile of junk clearly visible, as you can see in the picture. The steps up to the second floor were in need of repair and the landing sagged under my weight (I am an average size woman). Unfortunately, the much anticipated screened in porch that you have to walk through to get to the door of the room had MANY large flying bugs in it that we had to be sure to close the door to the room to keep them out. The chairs on the porch are old and uninviting. The room was dark and dingy (nothing like the advertisement picture) with a press on mural that seemed to be separating from the wall. My husband and I are not in the habit of throwing away money, but we were so disappointed that we left even though we could not get our money back and drove back home from our day away anniversary rather than stay in a room that was so run down and dirty feeling. The only redeeming quality seemed to be that the bathroom appeared clean.. I found that a normal room on their website would be about $65. We paid more than 3x that. Will definitely be checking out websites reviews from now on...Overall - VERY disappointing, especially for the money.
- Antje (8/5): -
- Leigh (7/5): Nice - Did not eat breakfast Later check out
- Donna (9/5): - The hotel was "vintage", with green bathtub/shower & tiles. It was clean & comfortable. The woman at check in was friendly & welcoming. Nothing
- Donald (10/5): I felt safe and enjoyed my stay - I enjoyed my stay at Red Cardinal motel in Luray,VA. Extremely clean room The fan noise in the bathroom was a little on the loud
- Christina (10/5): - It was clean
- Matthew (10/5): Would stay there again - Glean. Comfortable. Friendly staff .
- Mark (10/5): The Cardinal Inn for the WIN - Very very clean! No odors! Very retro...great water pressure, bed was so comfy we slept like babies! Had fridge and microwave. Older TV but lots of chan els...bathroom was 50s but loved it! No coffee maker. All else was good!
- Stephanie (5/5): -
- Stewart (9/5): - Great location for driving into the Shenandoah National Park! Comfy room. Microwave and coffee maker provided Adjoining room separated by a door... Could hear some noise from neighbours but not a big issue
- Ronnie (8/5): - The room was very clean. The vintage bathroom was amazing. It's an older motel, but floors were updated with no carpet. The mattress was a little lumpy, but comfortable enough. We would stay again if we were in the area. Mattress was a little lumpy.
- Debra (10/5): Very nice accomodations - Clean, comfortable; loved the colored tile in the bathroom! Microwave, mini-fridge and table/chair to work at A box of Kleenex would be handy in the room
- Monique (8/5): We thought it was perfect for our needs! - Friendly, clean, nice desk person, safe, funky decor 2 small bugs and a couple dead spiders in the bathroom
- Marissa (5/5): - Price. The outside of the Hotel was cute. Seems safe. Convenient location. Water pooled in shower. Lots of flies. Lack of ventilation, windows were painted shut and not able to be opened. Room smelt too strong of cleaning products/ bleach. No coffee machine.
- Mccuen (8/5): Welcoming staff. Was quick to respond to towel requesrs offered coffee pot gor room use - Room was clean. However the shower drain was plugged.
- Michael (10/5): Super awesome place - Loved it Nothing I liked everything
- Robert (9/5): If in the area again we would definitely stay here. Close to area attractions and restaurants. - The room was clean and comfortable.
- Hoffert (7/5): -
- Eileen (10/5): - Great place to stay!
- carasS4090PU (10/5): As advertised! Quaint & quiet. Rooms are spotless, property very well maintained! House keeper is meticulous! - Stayed for 3 nights. Property very well maintained, rooms spotless, bed comfortable. Staff (front desk & housekeeping) very friendly & helpful. Shout out to the housekeeper, she goes above & beyond!!
Rooms are dark (lots of natural light if you open the curtains) & AC unit was loud but very effective. Didn't love the comforte, used clean blanket in closet instead
Unsure what other reviewer was expecting for room decor, is exactly as shown in pics/reviews. Again, room was spotless, laminate floors, so no carpeting (much appreciated!) but dated furniture. I was pleased & would stay again!
- Crawford (10/5): Great place to stay! - Very quiet. Couldn't tell any other guests were there. Great location. Amazing owner. Felt right at home. Very clean. Highly recommend. Many things to enjoy nearby. Television channels could have been higher resolution but really didn't watch much TV. Internet connection was great though.
- AnaRita (9/5): -
- Claudia (10/5): -
- Wissal (10/5): -
- Sharon (10/5): - Clean room pet friendly very brightly lit at night.
- Philip (4/5): Dissatisfied - Hotel claimed to be dog friendly, but I was charged an extra $23.00 for the privilege of having my dog with me. Additional hidden charges for allowing pets in a supposedly pet friendly motel.
- Subra (7/5): Clean, But not that worth for the price. - Rooms are renovated and beds are clean. The appliances are very old, Power outlet is not working, Bathroom facilities could have been better.
- Weronika (8/5): -
- Vitaliy (9/5): -
- Kate (10/5): A real treat in Shenandoah Valley - This hotel stay was one of the best. The place itself is very well upkept and clean. The honeymoon suite had its own screened in porch with a nice field view. We loved this place and hope to go back again soon.
- Susan (10/5): - Large room, clean and quiet. Great location for our needs, friendly/helpful staff!
- Richard (9/5): The cardinal Inn is a very nice clean place. Would stay there again - There was no breakfast, but for the value of the Inn that’s ok
- Florian (10/5): Sauber und gepflegt -
