Guest Reviews
- Melissa (10/5): Like a resort in the Catskills! - This hotel is like staying in the movie Dirty Dancing. We enjoyed it immensely and recommend it..alrhou we were off season so the resort dining had not opened yet the pool, hotub, and suana were all up running and perfect for our stay! We were the only guests in the hoteland it was perfect!
- Patti (8/5): - Beds were comfortable. Water pressure was great. Rooms could definitely use upgrading. They had a 70's vibe with old carpet and paneled walls.
- Chrissy (10/5): - The staff were very accomadating. Very nice and clean rooms.
- Michael (4/5): - Hotel needs updating, no micro wave in the room. The pool only had 10 chairs, had to sit on the concrete
The resort has so much possibilities just needs management that wants to
Invest
- Mel (10/5): - Nice older ski lodge.
- Jeremi (8/5): - Very close to town easy to get to very nice overall
- Crystal (10/5): - It was nice and quiet.
- Barbara (6/5): - I like that the resort is far from people, cars, highways. Is situated in the middle of nothing with lots of trees/forest all around, not a lot of people.in facility, in the pool, outside and inside. Is very peaceful, deer are coming close to be seen. The buildings are not in very good condition, but every time we are there, I can see that the rooms are painted, new carpets, new tiles in the bathrooms, on the wall and on the floor, comfortable beds with nice clean sheets, even TVs are much better then before. I would wish for a refrigerator in the room without request it and much cleaner pool outside but overall we had a good, peaceful, relaxing time at comfortable price.
- Oleg (10/5): - natural surroundings area and landscaping are great.
- vanessa (4/5): - Very run down . Poor customer service at the den restaurant
- Ronnie (4/5): horrible - dirty, sheets weren’t clean, spiders in room, shower gross, beds were hard and they said i could pay in cash and get there wouldn’t accept it
- Heidi (4/5): - It was ok but they said they did not have my reservations and I had to go there before the plans we already had which took over a he and a half and when we arrived we found out pool n hot tubs inside were closed and they said they don’t do hotels . Com and tried to charge me more I had to see a manger to get price fixed and I been so stressed since I’m up sick to my tummy the anxiety from this ruined my vacation
- Peter (6/5): - Indoor pool was not available.
- JORGE (6/5): - The place is old but quite
- Verified traveler (8/5): - very outdated but it was clean and nice for our family trip.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - They need to take some time and clean common areas, halls, elevators etc. And the TV was from the 1980s. Seriously was made in the 80s
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Xxx
- Kathleen (6/5): Fresh Paint - Rot is taking over the buildings on the property. Around the buildings on the grounds are evident water lines from flooding which draw attention to moss or algae crusted and rotting wood and exposed rusted metal. The rot is evident even on the inside.
The indoor pool area has three mushrooms and one shelf fungus growing on the ceiling. If you inspect the area you can see evidence of other fungi that were removed.
Every building would benefit from some TLC and paint.
- Richard (10/5): - More than we could have hoped for at this place. Sure, it could use some updates, but they make the most of what they can here. It would take an army of shipped in workers to really whip this giant place into shape. Excellent breakfast buffet at Dantes. Friendly staff even though they were short handed.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The room was outdated and disgusting. Did not feel as if it was cleaned at all. We ended up staying at a different hotel. The skiing is definitely the only plus side of this resort.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Booked a room with Expedia. Upon check-in, two members of the hotel staff, one a manager, told me the room was a higher rate than what I booked and I owed a balance. However, neither staff member could explain why they were charging me more. In fact, the female manager was blatantly rude and asked me if I wanted the room or not.
- JACQUELINE (8/5): - Overall property was in good condition. Beds were comfortable. Only problem we had steps to go up and down and couldn’t get valet cart past a certain point. No biggie but was not convenient. Everyone was so accommodating and helpful. Mask policy was loosely enforced.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The rooms was old with paint peeling, wall holes were repaired but never painted, room was dirty and filled with lady bugs. It’s with in walking distance to ski lifts but I would not stay there again. Your better off driving in from farther hotel.
- Lisa (10/5): - It was amazing. The staff was extremely welcoming. we couldn't be happier our daughter is having her wedding their in 1 year!
- Andrew (4/5): not a great experience - Our room felt like it was in the basement. Nothing special about the room. We were in a no smoking room section but there were people smoking in their room. Plus there was a party going on with many drunk people talking loud and knocking on doors. I will not go back to this place
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice resort. Hot tubs were only warm but maybe because there was very few guests. Room was ok. Needs some updating on h/vac equipment. Dinner and breakfast were excellent.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Family getaway - Beds we’re comfy, very quiet and peaceful, staff was nice and helpful. Outdoor pool was nice, bar area was nice. I recommend having weekly drink and food specials most places do.
We went to Devils lake and it was beautiful.
- Thomas (8/5): Tom - Rooms are nice. Pizza and Breakfast was very good.
- Heather (6/5): Just okay - Overall, the stay at Devil's Head Resort was just okay.
Daddy long leg spiders certainly enjoyed their stay in the bathroom. The beds were small and not all the comfortable. The food was pretty good. That was probably the only good thing about the stay.
- Migdalina (10/5): Migda - Everything was ok and we like the restaurant food too.Thank you!!
- Tomasz (8/5): Ok for the budget - We stayed only for one night. The resort is beautifully located. There is nothing wrong with it but it needs remodelling and refreshing. Everything is old and simply worn out. :)
- Al (6/5): - The property was nice and close to everything we wanted to do had a beautiful golf course and ski slopes on the property. The rooms and beds were decent but a little outdated. The room amenities were awful though. Tube TVs and no mini fridges. The bathroom floors were clean but showed years of wear and tear. The staff was friendly and engaging but our first room was unable to be opened so we were moved to a newer* building which wasn’t much of an upgrade. In all it was a bit shabby for how much we paid a night
- Paul (8/5): - We stayed for only one night and we were short time in the resort but its nice resort and we had nice time
- Amber (8/5): - Rooms were musty and out dated, pool area was nice, the area was pretty
- Adam (4/5): July 4th Weekend - Dust in places I would expect to have been sanitized. Spiders and spider webs all over in the room. Frogs in the indoor pool area. Shower broken and unusable.
- Visitor (8/5): - Nice hotel, a bit dated but kept up well. Very close to Devil's Lake :)
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Room was cancelled due to resort closing down because of covid-19 pandemic.
- Alena (10/5): - Old resort, but had a good time. Rooms are old style, amenities include swimming pool and jacuzzi. The pool had a strong chlorine smell - did not go there.
- Sean (8/5): - The skiing and conditions were alot better than i expected. This was the reason i went there. Lifts were new and the quads all pretty quick. Never waited more than a minute to get on a lift. Staff at the lifts were very friendly. The room was a bit outdated but didnt spend much time there. Would go back for the skiing.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The whole place smelled rank and was pretty beat up, with scratches in the walls and chipped paint on all surfaces. The resort really needs some maintenance and TLC. The biggest frustration, though, was that upon entering our room, there was a door hanger on the dresser advertising free pizza delivery to our room. The flyer was for the on-premise restaurant, the Cliffhaus. However, when we dialed the front desk to order, no one had any idea what we were talking about. Ultimately we spoke with five different people who all told me they don't deliver to the rooms. In the end, a manager at the Cliffhaus did finally take our order and deliver it himself, but was baffled at why we even had the door hangers in the first place.
Seems a shame that they have such a prime location and seem to have invested a good bit of money in the ski facilities, but apparently have no clue how to run a hospitality business. There seems to be a real lack of communication and training in the resort, and our experience will cause us to look elsewhere next time we plan a ski vacation.
- Martin (10/5): - Not too far from Chicago land perfect place for family if you love 🎿
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Skiing was good. Property is old and hazardous. Hotel in sad shape. Lamp wires in room fire hazard. Staff untrained and no management working. Falling apart.
- Brian (6/5): Ski - Very Convenient for skiing but the hotel is older and slowly getting updates.
- Carlos (4/5): Good mountain with very unprofessional resort ppl - Mountain:
It was fun, good snow, not too many riders on the weekend.
No place to park tho.
Resort:
Lots of untrained personal that don't know what they have.
Said people will not even try to help. I asked how to get to the mountain, he told me to go all around the parking to the other side of the resort.
Instead of just telling me to walk through the building.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - There was a mold smell coming from the bed closest to our room window (room 107). There was also a big yellow stain on one of the comforters.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I liked how close it was to the mountain it was very convenient. But the rooms are dirty and very dated. our bed had a huge caved in middle. Uncomfortable. Definitely needs to be updated. The signage on how to rent the skis is nowhere to be found. So we went all the way to ski rentals to find out you had to pay at the front desk. It would have not been nice to know that in advance before having the whole family go down there. I think the staff was very nice. And it has a lot of potential but needs a lot of updating and cleaning and proper signage
- KristiRuby (10/5): - Perfect for a ski weekend. Parked right by the magic carpet, so no lugging gear. Once little one got cold, we took her day care and skied the rest of the day. Childcare “kids night out” on Saturday so husband and I could go to nice dinner (Drifters Brewery - amazing!) fun skiing, fun bar with DJ, all around great vacation (but the rooms are super basic)
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Ski in ski out location is great and it wasn't overcrowded on the hills or in the restaurants
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Hotel was outdated , whirlpools didn’t work , fitness center was a joke , thought the overall hotel condition was like being back in 1978
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Told us we had to check out at 7am. Confirmation said 11.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Place is a dump! Outlets don't work, rooms are a mess...yikessssss
- Verified traveler (4/5): - It had a nice view in the back, the hotel lobby and hallways and things in that Nation seem unkept
- Rachel (8/5): Nice but no breakfast - This location is beautiful and full of beautiful views. Rooms are comfortable enough. My kids loved that the pool was big and there were tow little hot tubs. Biggest complaint is lack of breakfast. I believe there is a restaurant on site but as an avid traveler I like to have a quick bite and considering this is a "convention center" I feel the lack is a negative to come back.
- Steve (4/5): - Stayed here for a wedding. The price for the type of property is insane. Everything is very dated and poor condition. Odd smell throughout the building. Staff was pretty nice other than one person at the front desk and a bartender. Food was the only good part of the stay. Terrible layout and the rooms are not nice, especially for $150/night. I would have been happier if it cost only $70/night.
- Mark (4/5): - Rooms smelled like mold calcium build ups on shower faucets paint peeling throughout room
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The property was very dated and run down. The amenities were few and far between. For the price that they charge for the room, there should at least be extra pillows and a flat screen TV.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Rooms were like a crappy dorm. Old tube tv, no fridge or microwave. Not even a chair. Dead bugs, toenail clippings on the floor. Bed was surprisingly ok. Place needs a major update.
- Anon (6/5): - The rooms were dirty and dated. Had old tube TVs. Toilet so small like a kids toilet. Whole facility seemed dated and old. The staff were all friendly and cared about the people there only positive about whole experience.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice and clean. People are very friendly and willing to help.
- sandra (8/5): Family visit - People were great!!! Rachel was our breakfast waitress and was awesome. The property is a bit run down and glad I didn't pay full price. No refrigerator, noisy AC unit, old tube style TV, no internet in rooms. Needed a place to sleep and that fit the need. Bed was comfy and good pillows.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The location is beautiful and the resort has so much potential, but it felt run down and dirty. It was not a pleasant place to stay.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Update this place. Stuck in the 70’s. Disgusting and dirty. There is no way I would eat there when you see how dirty the rest of the place is. But the golf courses looked beautiful
- JohnN. (8/5): - Overall a very pleasing stay. The staff were friendly enough and helpful. Really enjoyed the outdoor fire pit area for our night gathering with friends & family. The kids enjoyed the pool. The rooms were pretty basic
and definitely in need of slight repair and updating... but hey, we did not come to sit in our room! Again.. overall we enjoyed the stay!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The hotel room was extremely dusty, the toilet seat was broken, the tub drain was rusty. The property seemed untouched style-wise from the 1990s. An enormous unstable box tv sat on the dresser and threatened to tip off and crush someone, perhaps a small child. Even more dangerous was our fifth floor window that opened wide with no screen - wide enough for an adult or child to fall out. Don’t be tempted by good prices. It’s not worth the trip.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I like that it was out in the woods , very nice. Great golf course
- Verified traveler (8/5): - very pretty setting, easy to find, like the map that was handed out upon arrival.
It was off season so much of facilities were not open. Not too much to eat on the premise.
- Daniel (4/5): - We made reservations weeks earlier for a king size bed. We were given two full size beds instead. The front desk stated they had made a mistake and could do nothing about it since no other rooms were available.
The tv was...antiquated. The sink was dirty.
The beds were comfortable though
- Karla (10/5): - Overall everything was great.👍 had a awesome time by the pool, the food was delicious.
- Michael (8/5): OK place to stay but not up to date - The hotel is old and dated. The room didn't have a refrigerator or microwave to use. There was only the outlet by the sink to use to charge your phone. But the bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. The outdoor pool was good and the indoor pool has a hot tube. The WIFI sucked and due to the hotel remote location my phone had only one bar.
- Alexa (2/5): - Beautiful and peaceful location! Gives you the time to unwind from the everyday life. Rooms are nasty, dirty and old. Carpets are stained, spider webs every where, stains on the walls. The cleanliness of it is extremely poor.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The area was beautiful. Convenient and close to Devils Lake State Park and Lake Wisconsin. Pretty disappointed in the resort though. Very old. It felt like walking into an old college dorm. The bathroom was dirty and lots of water/calcium deposits and stains. The room said it had fridge but ours did not have one. The ice machines were filthy and had mold growing around the dispensers.
- reid (4/5): Dirty rooms and dirty bathroom - Everything from check in started off wrong.. first off, i booked a king bed room with a "view" and got far less. They put me in a 2 bed double bed room. The room was DISGUSTING(see pictures) the bathroom was running a close tie to the room's actual cleanliness. After realizing(40 min later) i had the wrong room, i went to get the "right" room. To which the management said there was nothing they could do. Whatever. The building itself is falling apart. The pool was super dirty. I wouldn't stay here again based on the fact that A) management didn't fix or attempt to fix my room situation. Not even, "we're sorry".. again, whatever. And B) there's next to No SERVICE there. Wifi is minimal.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Changed my room bed type from queen to two double beds, looked run down, mold on the ice machine, dirty around the entrance, rust stains in the shower.
- RC (8/5): - Nice grounds. Great location. Excellent restaurant. Rooms dated but clean and comfortable. Price fantastic. I would recommend.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Facilities very dated, no secure WiFi, restaurant and bar were ok but very limited food and drink options. Price was good for an overnight stop but wouldn’t want to stay longer.
- JR (2/5): - Hard to find. Many issues with multiple rooms. Asked for money back and left
- April (6/5): - We reserved a room with king size bed but ended up with 2 full size beds. Facility could use general maintenance and upkeep. There was no direction at the entrance where to proceed for check-in. Staff were nice and helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Loved the pools and beautiful grounds. We had some good food at the bar and a very good breakfast. Rooms are dated and could use some improvements. Customer service was excellent.
- Tracy (6/5): - The staff was absolutely phenomenal! Very friendly and helpful!
- Douglas (8/5): - The resort is dated, but quaint and it was nice being almost the only people in the hotel for most of the week. Very quiet and comfortable for the price
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Overall very nice quiet bar area needs updating
Would be nice if had laundry facilities
- FIDELR (2/5): - At 10 PM, 2 ladies happened to opened our room door, apparently they were assigned the same room as us,. total confusion with one of the rooms i rented. AC was not working properly on one of my rooms. front desk made it an unpleasant visit , wont visit again
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Tv very old , carpets very very old, smell bad, over dusty not clean
- Jessie (4/5): Gross - The room was extremely gross. Mold in the toilet, hairs in the shower, dead bugs in the bed.
- Laura (8/5): - Loved the area. Top rate customer service made up for this being an older resort.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Renovations please - Hotel needs renovations, indoor pool area looked rough. There is no cleaning service at the Inn after the people come in the morning to make up used rooms. I’m not sure how the hotel keeps up without code violations. The area outside the area is beautiful, Devils Lake is worth the visit.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - It was a place to stay. Property needs updating; cable; TV and WiFi service.
- Brendan (2/5): Worst Hotel Stay I've Ever Had - The stay started out bad, the front desk did not give good directions on how to get to our room, after having to go back to the front desk to ask for more clarification we found it. Once it in room it only got worse. The room had that musty/moldy smell to it, toilet was leaking in the bathroom, cobwebs in the corners of the room, a film of dirt on all hard surfaces, mold in the shower, and what I justified had to be paint from the door stained the carpet (had the redish/brown look that blood does). The room was in such a state that I felt the need to check for bed bugs, thankfully didn't find any. If the room wasn't bad enough, around 3AM I was woken up by what sounded like a pounding on our door and a man talking loudly in the hallway. I opened out door to find an employee on radio. I asked what he needed and he informed me that another room had people screaming inside it. This was just the cherry on the top of a terrible stay. This was the only hotel near a wedding we were attending and honestly I wish we would have just saved the money and drove home for the night.
- AntDogg (10/5): - Everything it was a nice place jus a little out dated the tv was cheap the with poor signal over all everthing was really nice
- Hattie (10/5): Good for the peice - Overall, had a enjoyable stay. Was a great location to tour devils lake and be close to the dells. Room had a box tv, and no fridge, but bed was comfortable and the pools were nice. In the end, if going in that area I would stay here agian.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Not a great choice for families. The hotel is very run down. We stayed on a Saturday in the summer, which meant the hallways were filled with a combination of drunk golfers and drunk wedding goers until very early in the morning.
Given the state of the hotel and the lack of any dining options within 20 minutes, it seemed a bit ridiculous that the restaurant only had entrees priced around $30 ea.
I may return to ski here again, but will not stay at the hotel.
- Pamela (10/5): - Very clean, friendly staff. Beautiful nature with trees and golf course.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Pool was a plus. The golf course was beautiful. The air did not work well and the hotel smelled rather musty
- Kendra (6/5): Dated with limited wifi - We booked a one night stay and were disappointed with how dated the room was. The room was very basic. The bathroom was very tiny with very little water pressure. The indoor pool was also dated and very cold. The best part of the stay was how quiet the building was. We never heard anyone above or beside us.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Did not have the room I reserved ...were pleasant enough and tried to accommodate. I just want what I want while on vacation!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Check in was fine. There were me, my husband and two other couples. In our room it looked like the toilet had never been cleaned. It was disgusting! The AC barely worked in one couples room and the shower head in the other couples room barely worked. I didn’t expect five star for $95 but for $95 it should have been better than that!!!
- Mark (10/5): - Everyone, from front desk to chairlift attendants to waitstaff to cleaners were so friendly. Not regular level friendly... like extra level. Like they all owned a piece of the property and really cared that our experience was positive.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Inn was in disrepair...very outdated and in need of new carpet, furniture, etc . No hot water in shower!
MTN was awesome!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Absolutely loved the ski hill. Staff could use some work from the lift operators to the hotel check in desk. I have stayed at this property before with much better results, not sure what has happened but I hope it gets back to what it once was.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The service was incredibly slow every where except ski rental. The signs were confusing. Front desk was incredibly slow. The room keys rarely worked.
