- Travelsnus (10/5): If You’re Attending A Convention… - I stayed at the Albany Renaissance while attending a convention held at both the Albany Convention Center (ACC) and Empire State Plaza (ESP). First of all, my experience with the front desk staff was absolutely excellent. I’d like to call out the young man with glasses who was there on at about 7:15 am on Saturday, May 2nd, who saved me from a first timer’s serious miscalculation about the convention centers! He could not have been kinder or more professional. Also, the help I received in navigating the room service (excellent food from the onsite restaurant) and leaving the attached parking (super convenient and quite secure) was also courteous and efficient. The room was spacious, clean, and well kept. The walkway to the ACC (5-10 minutes) was extremely convenient, and one can access the ESP (20-25 minutes) as well. It needs a bench or something in each section; people with mobility issues were struggling, and the front steps definitely need a railing. However, these are very easy fixes which I hope the hotel will implement, and overall I would certainly stay here again.

The restaurant was good, the connector was great in the below zero weather to reach the capital cent - The connector between the hotel and convention center was great in the frigid weather. We could see the capitol building from our 9th floor view. We payed ahead of time through our app. When we checked in, we were charged a second time, it was about $150 more than what I originally paid for. We did get the refund 5/6 days later.

- Nancy (4/5): Clean, comfortable room. Disappointing front of house staff - The room was very clean and comfortable The woman who works days at the front desk was very unprofessional. Every time I approached the desk, she acted like she was being put out by my presence. When I was waiting to check in, I witnessed her being rude to a guest that wanted early check-in and then proceeded to talk bad about her when she left. The younger gentleman who is also helping at the front desk was lovely. Perhaps you should give her job to him. I also had a less than stellar experience with the shuttle driver. I asked for a ride to the airport and he sighed and looked at me like I was putting him out. The front desk clerk (woman) said he was feeling sick. I offered to take a lyft but the only appropriate staff member (young man) assured me that it was no problem. Not that it matters, but I am Bonyoy Platinum so I was given early check-in. The food in the restaurant was adequate and the staff friendly, but the furniture was very worn and tired. I would have been embarrassed to have a business associate meet me there.
- nycresident2010 (10/5): Luxury Overnight in January - We had a very nice, luxurious stay at the Albany Renaissance. Our room was large and had a beautiful view of the Capitol in the snow. A quick walk up the hill led us to Empire State Plaza, with pretty holiday lighting and ice skating. Our room was so nice! It was very well appointed, with great toiletries and quality towels. good lighting and space to relax. Front desk staff were very nice, and helped with parking questions. What a lovely experience!

- 773cassadyb (4/5): $300+ a Night Should Come With Better Care - We have stayed at the Renaissance Albany Hotel before and previously had no complaints, which is why we chose to return. Unfortunately, this most recent stay was very disappointing. While many of the issues started out minor, they became much bigger due to how they were handled — or not handled at all. On our first night, we realized we forgot toothpaste and attempted to use the phone in our room to call the front desk. The phone would not work, so we pressed several buttons trying to get it to function. Unfortunately, the only button that worked dialed 911. We immediately told the dispatcher it was a mistake and hung up. I then called the front desk from my cell phone, asked about toothpaste, and walked down to retrieve it. Several minutes after returning to our room, someone knocked on our door to check on us due to the accidental 911 call. We explained the situation and mentioned that the room phone was not working. We were asked if we wanted someone to look at it the next day, and I said noon would be fine. I also mentioned at that time that the sink drain plug was stuck essentially closed and could not be pulled back up. Later, when we went to shower, the first towel we grabbed was already wet. While we were not happy about this, we decided not to use it and simply used a different towel rather than making an issue out of it. The next day, we left our room before noon. When we returned, the sink drain plug had been pulled up, but it still did not function properly and could not be opened or closed by us. We also noticed that the thermostat had been changed to a much different temperature than what we had left it set to. Even worse, there were dirt specks all over the bathroom counter near our toothbrushes and covering the entire inside of the sink. It was very clear a mess had been left behind after maintenance. We also checked the phone again — it still did not work. I went down to the front desk to ask if there was some sort of trick to the phones and was told, “sometimes the phones just don’t work.” I also showed a video of the mess left in and around the sink. I was told it should not have been left like that and that someone would be sent up to clean it. I was given two $10 food vouchers for the restaurant. Housekeeping later entered the room, left a few extra towels, took the garbage, and left — with attitude. The mess was still left behind. I went back to the front desk again and explained that nothing had been cleaned. I even said I could clean it myself, but was assured someone would take care of it. An older gentleman then came to the room and told my boyfriend he was already there to clean the mess. When he pointed to the toilet and said “see, sink clean,” my boyfriend explained that was the toilet, not the sink, and pointed out the actual sink. The gentleman muttered something and proceeded to clean it. When I returned and checked, while it was somewhat cleaner, the maintenance mess still had not been fully cleaned. By this point, it was late, and we were completely over it. None of our issues were properly resolved, and the experience left a very bad impression. Each time I went to the front desk, employees were standing there looking down at their phones, and the level of care and urgency simply was not there. I have worked in housekeeping myself for several years, and I never would have left a guest’s room in that condition or repeatedly failing to follow through — especially at $300+ per night. Unfortunately, after this stay, I am not impressed and would seriously reconsider staying here again.

One floor lamp and one small lamp on nightstand between bed. Beds were good. One sofa very low to the floor; difficult for older adults to arise. No hand rail near low toilet. Inadequate staff in restaurant. Service is slow. Food flavorful but temperature only moderate. Overpriced.

- JoodyC (2/5): Stay away if you have accessibility issues - Terrible hotel for accessibility. The front entrance has four steps with no railings. Accessible entrance is 30-40 feet away, THROUGH the luggage storage area. Then back to the front desk. The employees I dealt with either received no accessible training or have forgotten it. They found a wheelchair for me, but wouldn’t help me to my room because of insurance concerns. I was supposed to wheel myself or travel with a companion. The phone in the bedroom was on a mid-room console, not near the bed. I gave this one star because I couldn’t give it a minus.

The lounge for platinum had more food choices than most us lounges generally have including a variety of fresh fruit and hot food items. The staff were helpful. The exercise center has more machines than most hotels (But I of course it is not a gym). The lobby is a great old hotel vibe My only suggestion would be better signage from the convenient garage to the lobby.

- Verified traveler (6/5): hidden EV charge - Clerk at check-in must have been having a bad day, she was curt and dismissive. Before booking I called ahead to see if the hotel had EV charging. They said yes we do, right in the hotel's parking facility. When I got there, I found they had two EV spots. One didn't work, the other was slow. But the problem then was that EV charging was extra fees nobody had mentioned. So in addition to the $22/night parking fee (announced), there was $30-$35 EV charging fee (unannounced). I asked front desk to credit my account; this person was much nicer though not hopeful. But she did check with the manager, who agreed to credit my account -- but then they never did. The hotel and room itself was very clean and comfortable.

- Melissa (10/5): - This is a wonderful hotel. The staff was extremely nice and helpful and the rooms were very clean and comfortable. Food at the restaurant was also very good. We highly recommend this hotel if you are in Albany!
- brown_okstate (8/5): Friendly Staff - This hotel is located downtown across from the New York Stare Capitol building. It is walking distance and a short drive to many restaurants. They offer a free shuttle (first come, first serve) to destinations within a 5 mile radius. The hotel was clean and comfortable, and the staff were very friendly.

- Nancy (10/5): Service Above and Beyond the Call of Duty - I went to the parking garage to put things in my car. To my surprise, the key fob did not open the door, no matter what I did. I thought I would have to call AAA, but the lady at the front desk said, “Let’s try this first”. Two men from the engineering department came. Although I thought my key fob was to blame, they were able to determine that the key fob was in good working order. They also showed me how to take an actual key out of the key fob, so that we could open the car. I didn’t even know that key was there. Even though we were now able to access the car, it still didn’t start. eventually, they told me that they had figured out that I had drained my battery. The overhead light failed to go off when I exited the car on the previous day. We still did not have to call AAA. They had a device that charged the battery of my car. I was saved! It seems to me that this is definitely service above and beyond the call of duty. I was impressed with their professionalism, their courtesy, and their expertise. This hotel seems to take very good care of their guests.

- neatntidy (4/5): Poor service - We stayed here for one night with two kids as part of a trip to Cooperstown. Room was not very clean and front desk staff were rude. Any time i had to go ask something I felt like I was bothering them. Barley acknowledged your presence. Would most likely never stay here again or recommend the hotel. The size of the room was nice but that is about all i can say about it.

Next morning discovered a cabinet tucked away at end of reception where water was $3 also found a water dispensing machine neither of which did the reception tell us about.

- HarlanL60763 (8/5): A great choice in downtown Albany. - Perfectly fine hotel in downtown Albany. The room was quite spacious and comfortable. The bed was excellent. Good shower: plenty hot water and decent pressure. The hotel restaurant was pretty good and the staff was friendly and helpful. Easy access to the parking deck. If your travels take you to Albany, I would definitely advise a stay here.

- Peter (6/5): - The Albany Renaissance is a nice hotel but seems to be on the brink of being neglected and becoming overwhelmed by many factors.!it’s in a great location has terrific parking and a good restaurant in Wellingtons. For me my stay was too expensive considering the state of everything. Comparable price level hotels offer far more in overall premises conditions, ambience and service .!I am not saying my services and interactions were bad but for what I paid more could have been offered.

- Maude (2/5): Most expensive hotel in the area with zero justification for the price. - Nothing at all. It was just ok. I purchased 4 rooms for my family and I as we were there to attend a wedding. We were also celebrating our sister’s cancer remission. I let the hotel know in advance. I was truly expecting that they have something brought to her room, but no!!This cost me $4,200.00 for 4 days, 3 nights. One guest had a flight cancellation and couldn’t make the first night. Needless to say, I was still charged for that night. The hotel didn’t even provide bottle water in the room. I had to purchase the water bottles!! We had to track down the maid to change our sheets on the second night. She told us that we weren’t schedule for a room cleaning. Our towels were never changed. If you’re looking for any conveniences, you won’t find them here. This “luxury” hotel doesn’t offer any bellhop services, salons, spa or dry cleaning services (as advertised on their website). It has only 1 restaurant, which is high priced with mediocre dining. I had breakfast with my brother. He had an English muffin and I had wheat toast, we both had 1 cup of coffee, that’s it. It cost $16.00 before tip.

- kakiphony (8/5): Clean, comfortable hotel downtown with amenities - We stayed at the Renaissance for one night after walking out on our booking at another Marriott property (the Fairfield) in downtown Albany. After our horrible experience at the Fairfield (chemical smell so bad my throat burned), the Renaissance was an oasis. The room was clean and had no odor. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom spacious, and the shower had good water pressure. The blackout curtains worked well. We had a drink in the bar and service there was quick and courteous. We appreciated the adjacent parking (the Fairfield has no dedicated parking), and the shuttle service. The bathroom toiletries are on the nicer end.
- PeggyZino (6/5): Not great unless you need to be right near the capital center - Can only recommend if you need to be near the capital center. The beds are comfortable and the shower is good but the rooms are poorly lit so if you need to work the environment is not practical. They stopped providing bottles of water in the room, not even for sale. When I asked about it I was told it was a management decision that is not popular with guests. As a Bonvoy gold member I’m not at all impressed by this property.

- KMLNY (8/5): Starting to show its age - It’s been about 15 months since I’ve stayed here and I have to admit, it’s losing a bit of its luster. Somewhat of a frequent flier, I’ve stayed from newly opened nearly 10 years ago to at least once a year. It is the nicest hotel in downtown Albany hands down. Large, really comfortable rooms, the staff is always so welcoming and helpful. Its restaurant and bar adds convenience, as does the adjacent parking ramp and shuttle. Sadly, I noticed right away that the lobby wasn’t as shiny as it used to be. The furniture shows wear and tear and just looks tired. I hope management doesn’t let it slide too far. That would be a real shame.

- Suzanne (10/5): - Very nice location and hotel. Great for walking to museums and local sites. We have an Electric car and we're pleased that they have level 2 charger on site. Only problem was one of two connectors is not working and we thought after we had inquired as to EV location in garage they would have advised us about the known malfunction so we wouldn't waste our time trying to make it charge. On site shuttle driver Jim gave us a lift to a local shop .... Appreciative as it was too cold and too many blocks away to walk!

- Bradley (5/5): Dropped the ball - Pretty hotel Night staff very annoyed to be asked for extra blanket At the restaurant we had a group of 9. very rude to our group..told us we were gonna have to move to bar ...fine.. 2 seconds later turn back to a female in the group and say leave or I'll call security..when I spoke up...tells me you ain't gonna scare me from my restaurant..never waited on us we had to go to the bar to ask for anything...and he would have received a 300 400 dollar tip as we spent a few hundred in the restaurant. Was my daughter's college graduation dinner...should be fired..a very liberal...minded restaurant and hotel would not stay there again or recommend to anyone..pretty to look at but the good stops there

Hotel was not crowded so that may have helped but great front desk and breakfast service. Gym was empty and very clean. Be back soon!
