Guest Reviews
- IMRossB (10/5): A Getaway That Truly Includes Every Family Member - We had a wonderful 3-day, 2-night family stay at Sunny Point Resort in one of their 3-bedroom cottages. The cottage was clean, cozy, and well-equipped, and the peaceful surroundings made for a relaxing getaway. One major factor we chose this resort is because it’s pet friendly. We brought our furbaby, who loved the nature walks, chilling at the dock, and swimming in the lake. We enjoyed kayaking on the lake. The kids also had a blast at the beach and on the water trampoline. The whole family had fun at the recreation centre where we played mini putt, table tennis, pool, and basketball. It was a perfect mix of relaxation and fun. A great spot for families, including the four-legged members, looking to unplug and reconnect with nature.
- jspeck3131 (10/5): Father son trip - Excellent experience, would definitely do it again, great place great people, room was perfect for my son and I, fishing was great for me not so much for my boy but had a great time anyway. Outdoor activities like basketball and mini golf need updating.
- K7273VWbriana (10/5): Outstanding stay - The resort is excellent and the service was superb. Great cabins and facilities.
A great spot to stay and vacation. Very private cabins stocked with everything you need.
We took our grand kids and had a great time. Swimming and beach areas are very good. There is a private dock at each cottage for you to use as well.
- 4kend (6/5): Week long family trip in August - We stayed at Sunny Point Resort 1st week in August, I had never been to the area so wasn't sure what to expect. We stayed in cottage 10 which has 4 bedrooms 2 with a queen bed and 2 with 2 twin beds. The rooms are basic but nice, it has a large open living room and kitchen that includes all the basic necessities it comes with a dishwasher which was nice. The bathroom is small but has a full tub. The resort is showing its age as many amenities were run down or not available.
Pros
Large cottage spaced out so you have privacy
Your own private dock at each cottage
Good fishing off the dock, caught a few large mouth bass and a turtle
Ceiling fans in each room.
Your own canoe at your dock
Boat with 10hp motor (additional cost) having the boat was a nice feature allows you to explore the lake and go to the main dock where the water amenities are
Use of all water amenities free of charge
Lake perfect temperature for swimming, clean and deep no seaweed
Cons
Lots of step to the water I believe a section of our stairs were missing as we found an older picture of the cottage that shows there were steps originally
Our dock was not level and was very wet causing a slip hazard, I had to level it out using some existing cinder blocks.
No air conditioning this was not an issue as the nights were cool
One of the rooms ceiling fan was off balance and could not be used
Water pressure, you could not use more than one faucet at a time or you would lose water pressure so unable to do dishes and take a shower
Canoe's seat was broken
Some of the water amenities are broken, the peddle boat had 2 broken seat and not enough SUP paddles
- elodier772 (10/5): Great place to stay, good service - We stayed a few days in a suite at the inn.
The suite was big, with a nice solarium. The place is very clean and fully equipped.
The service was great: when we arrived, there was no heating in the suite. We called the office and the problem was solved quicky while we were gone making groceries.
I would certainely go back!
- SammyC23 (10/5): Wonderful time - David and Ivy,
Thanks again for a wonderful family vacation at Sunny Point. You are doing an amazing job of running the resort since Andy and Sue retired. Keep up the great work and we'll see you again next summer!

- MrSuffren (10/5): Excellent family resort with private cottages - Our family rented a 3-bedroom cottage (#2) for a week and it was wonderful. The cottage is well-laid out on one level with a screened-in porch for all your stuff and a private outdoor deck facing the lake. The overall property is huge. You can hang out at your private dock and swim, fish, and canoe (included with each cottage) around the quiet end of Otter Lake or you can go to the main resort activity area (by the inn) for stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, canoes, pedal boats, and a waterslide. You can also rent a small motorboat with 8hp engine for a reasonable fee. There is so much room that physical distancing from other guests was easy and everything was clean and well-organized and in good condition. We were astonished to also have free access to tennis courts, beach volleyball, horseshoes, and a basketball court. This place has it all. We will definitely return! No loud partiers made for a relaxing week. Definitely for families and more quiet guests looking for a break. Thanks David for your excellent hospitality.
- A3332WDdaver (10/5): Gorgeous lake and area - well run resort - Cabin was spotless on arrival - nice new, or newer everything: stove, fridge, coffee maker, pots, pans, all modern, and an outdoor bbq too. The view is stunning from the 8x16 ft screened in porch overlooking the water ( cabin 6 ), and you have your own small dock and canoe and paddles right there 24/7 and 150ft of shoreline between cabins ! Our dock probably took some damage by the winter ice, so was not level in one part, but it was still very usable. Water is purified and you can drink out of the tap. Very few other cottages in the bay, so its pretty quiet, some visits from tubers and personal watercraft, but not too much. Lots of wild shoreline to explore. Otter Lake is a beautiful gem of a lake - deep, clean water with cliffs and hills - I loved boating and fishing around this lake. Because there are only 8 cabins at the resort, we had no problem with visiting their beach at the main area - easy to stay distanced and often we were the only ones there. Swimming off your dock is just as good. These cottages were probably built in the early 1970s , but IMO, they are well built and well-maintained and comfortable to stay in - no mould or mustiness, mice or ants - very clean. The owners are terrific - always there if you need anything - but we didn't need anything !
- DanO447 (10/5): 10 day getaway - 4 of us recently stayed at the resort in a 3 bedroom cottage. Everything was spotless upon our arrival. We rented a small fishing boat for our 10 days and the pontoon boat for one of the days to better tour the lake in comfort. Ivy and David responded quickly to any requests or questions we had. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we are returning for 2 weeks in August.
We felt very safe with the super sanitizing that was done to the cottage.
- ChrisN1350 (10/5): A Dream of Peace & Quiet - My husband & I came from the chaos of the city to a beautiful restful comfortable cottage on Otter Lake. I highly recommend Sunny Point Resort for its beauty, location, and friendliness of the owners.
- 493rachel (10/5): Amazing place for relaxing fishing boating. Rooms are very clean. Stuff are very friendly - We spent long weekend at Sunny Point resort. We had wonderful time. The lake views are so beautiful. Water is crystal clear and warm. Stuff are friendly. Rooms are clean and quiet. Everyone of group of 13 were enjoyed stays. We will come back soon.
- Reelpr0 (10/5): Best Dog Friendly Resort in Muskoka - Sunny Point Resort is THE place to go if you wish to take your dog on a cottage vacation.
They have very private cottages to stay at with your family and dog or dogs.
Beautiful lake with lots to do and great fishing.
highly recommended - everything you would expect at a privatly owned cottage but at a resort with lots of activities and ammenities.
Great property with 80 acres to explore,
- M0_Afshar (10/5): Sunny Point Resort... you rock 🤟 - Sunny Point Resort is simply amazing! With around 10 private cottages and a dozen of spacious suits, it has different options for any group size! It’s exactly on the lake and has tons of recreational stuff to enjoy eg canoe, kayak, surf board, beach volleyball, ping pong and tennis courts... just to name a few (all for free)! All cottages have their own private bbq grill and access to the lake, while for the Inn suits they have several BBQ grill available on the deck and in the back yard with wonderful lake view!
Very clean rooms with adequate cooking equipments. Also they have satellite tv and internet!
Thanks David and Ivy for being amazing hosts and hope to see you soon!
Cheers
M
- little-lara (8/5): Great spot for a cottage get a way - We booked a last min cottage weekend and were very impressed with sunny point! We stayed at their suite inn number 6 and it was Extremely clean, had our own private outdoor bbq section which was fantastic as you still can see the view of lake and all the amenities in comfort of own space. The layout of sunny point is well thought out and is a great place for kids with lots of activities. Very impressed that boats, paddles etc were included and in very good condition. Dave & Ivy put a lot of work to maintain the property & also give you space during your stay.. it was quiet relaxing weekend without the hassle of booking an entire cottage I think the suite inn are an excellent alternative if a couple or small size family. The cleanliness is exceptional and we will definitely be back because of that.
- 777joannaz (10/5): nice place to have fun and relax - we spent a relaxed and happy weekend in sunny point resort. The cottage had everything for what one needs. Also, it was very clean and well kept. It offers a perfect water sports facilities and nice beach for swimming, canoeing, and tanning. The owner, David was very friendly and professionally.
- B8978UKadrians (8/5): A Fun and Relaxing Place - Our family (five plus dog) spent a relaxing week on the shores of Otter Lake near Parry Sound. Frankly, it was the only place we could find a four bedroom cottage with a dog friendly policy.
It proved to be an excellent decision. With the water levels so high after a wet Spring, beaches were small but adequate for tanning, swimming and canoeing. The cottage had everything one could want including dishwasher and comfortable furnishings. All was clean and well kept.
A good recreation centre with shuffleboard etc, and waterfront accoutrements for the kids from trampoline to slides, and motor boats available for rent, rounded out the offering.
The staff was friendly and approachable.
- pstradiotto (8/5): A beautiful escape - This was a beautiful and quiet stop along our road trip. Our room looked out onto the lake, and we had free access to canoes and kayaks. There's a bit of retro 80s charm to the rooms, and we took advantage of the library of VHS tapes as entertainment that night. The owners are very nice and accommodating. I recommend it.
- 2019NotKaren (2/5): Serious safety issue unprofessional owners - I don’t typically review but am compelled since a member of our party was so rudely responded too buy the new owners.
Alas they claim to have 17 working barbecues. None of the 17 were located at cottage 10. It was not working. Luckily we brought charcoal and were able to use an alternate bbq. As they claim ‘it doesn’t make sense to us that it was in poor condition’ it doesn’t matter if it makes sense or not - it’s not working.
There was no plug under the sink - again okay we made due but maybe having someone go through the cottage with a check list might have eased this situation. It is not on the guest to constantly tell you what needs to be done.
The boat is where I have an issue as it was my husband driving. The lever (wasn’t a lever it was the choke but okay) he so called ‘broke’ came off in his hand but that’s besides the point. The safety kit is not complete - WARNING TO ALL POTENTIAL RENTERS check to make sure there are batteries for the flash light in the boat kit before taking it out. I’m not sure how they would have remedy this immediately (as they stated) as we were not aware until we were pulled over and inspected by the OPP doing a long weekend blitz and by that point it’s to late. They opened the kit and discovered it was not complete. Rather then fine us they let us go because they recognized it was not our boat or responsibility to make sure the kit was complete. As they claim they ‘checked it for all safety items’ is a flat out lie and very very dangerous and I’m very grateful that the OPP let us go.
The no fires thing is annoying but it’s okay I get it.
Painting of the picnic table - no one talked to us nothing was said until after. My husband saw them wiping it down and thought ‘that’s nice’ then there was a knock at the door from a gentleman saying it had just been painted and we cant use it for a few hours. Okay not a huge deal but to lie is uncalled for.
For the grass cutting - maybe give the cottages a heads up before starting would be nice. The baby was awake as soon as the law mower started so what’s the point of stopping then.
Now I understand there are new owners and there are growing pains. That being said responding to a reviewer calling her ‘Karen’ when her name is clearly stated is grossly unprofessional. Putting the onus of the cottage upkeep on people renting constantly telling you what needs to be done again is unprofessional. Responding rudely is horribly unprofessional. If this is the attitude of the new owners that alone should be a reg flag for anyone wanting to rent here.
On top of this the docks back left corner is broken and sinking into the water but based on the owners pervious responses it was also our responsibility (paying renters) to tell them this too.
Maybe instead of making the renters responsible for noting repairs constantly owners should take ownership of what needs to be done and manage the place accordingly.
- Climber43567204373 (8/5): Men's Week Up North - Nice proprietors, very attentive (but only when needed). Upkeep is good. Large land mass. Cottages are comfortable and kitchen is fully equipped (including a dishwasher). Beautiful lake views, isolated cottages (much privacy), very quiet (except for the pleasant sounds of birds, scurrying chipmunks and a breeze rustling the leaves. Minor issues are poor drainage after a downpour, smallish 4-piece bathroom (one per cottage) and, if not staying at the inn, a nicely appointed beachfront that requires a long walk or a very short drive. A recreation area is available for several games/sports. Highly recommended for families and groups who wish privacy.
- V2245UXlaurar (2/5): Not coming back! - We had a good time because of the people we were with but the cottage needs work. BBQ was in terrible shape, no plug for the bath tub, couches need to be replaced, boat we rented was not up to safety standards, they painted the picnic table while we were there so we could not use it, cut the grass while the baby was sleeping, came flying down to the cottage thinking we had a fire going when we were using mosquito coils. We left a day early. Not coming back.
- Paradise16856659470 (10/5): Friend 22people group - It is a great place for both big and small group reunion and leisure time with privacy. Rooms are clean and tidy, no worries about bugs. We rent the largest house GM, so convenient for a few families to spend weekend together, kids and adults could find their own fun. We will be back.
