• Beverly (9/5): - The staff went out of their way to make sure I had a room available because I was checking in late. The room was at the end which was a perfect location because we were just coming and going. The room was clean and there were towels provided. Only complaint is that the TV was on the blitz. Everything else was perfect. Great for the price.

Property not updated in a while….Would have cancelled if we had time….Just slept and left within 7 hours..

Yeah, the beds weren't uncomfortable and things were outdated, but everything was clean and it gave us a place to stay for the night that was relatively cheap. The couple next door to us lock their key in their room, and the owner was immediately available to unlock the room for them. No fuss, no trouble.

• Krystal (5/5): - It was a place to lay your head for the night. Bed was comfy, owner welcoming and friendly. It was not cleaned well, drywall dust everywhere. Ice bucket broken, no shower curtain. Complimentary bar soap old. No working heat. I'm not sure of a/c, although it looked newer. Furnature left something to be desired in rough shape. In saying all this, it looks like these are new owners trying to make a go of an old motel, which I grant them probably is not easy. We, however, paid more than what I would like for what we got, which is what it is. Im sure in the coming future it will get better. It seems a lot of rooms are under renovations. Be kind always 💛
• SARNIA (7/5): - I really liked the space in our room! It had three bedrooms, which was perfect for our group of six. The location was also very convenient, it was easy to get on and off the highway, especially when driving to Cape Breton Island. There were also many stores and restaurants nearby, which made our stay even more comfortable. However, I didn’t like the smell of our bed. Even though it seemed clean, there was still a noticeable body odor. The washroom and curtains also had an unpleasant smell, and the floor didn’t seem to be swept properly. Overall, our stay was okay, but the cleanliness could definitely be improved.

• Terry (6/5): - It is an older motel so you have to expect things are not going to be top of the line especially for the price. I think they are upgrading a bit at a time. The check in was easy and the man nice, room was clean, sheets were clean, washroom has been updated it was clean. Beds were not comfortable first night was terrible second night was better I guess just getting used to it.. Now to nit-pick, the hot water took a minute or two to get hot but once it did it was fine. there was a big cobweb by the light and the bathroom mirror was smudged looks like it was just wiped and not dried, minor thing.. I did not see any breakfast and no little coffee pot or hair dryer in the room. Total experience it was good.

• NELSON (4/5): - This is just another Motel being run by Newly arrived immigrants. Everything about this motel is Bare Minimum. Beds, linens, microwave, furniture, mini fridge. There was No coffee or tea making appliance in the room.There is No Coffee or Tea available in the lobby. I would rate this place has 2 steps above sleeping in your car.

• Terry (2/5): - There are dive bars, this is a dive hotel. I tried to book a room in April at Hotel North where I stayed last year, got the indication that it was booked, was far from it. WiFi service intermittent at best at Highlands. This place has a terrible local reputation, which it richly deserves. Old, outdated are inadequate descriptions. Do NOT stay here!! Hotel North is the place to be.

• Roger (6/5): Clean, did the job, but not a comfortable night. - The person at the head office was very, patient, welcoming and knowledgeable. The bed's mattress was not comfortable at all, and I realized this just by sitting on it. Also it was placed on what looked like a home-made wood support. I stayed in another motel two days before for the same price but better all round. For my stay here, the quality was missing for the price paid.

Furniture in poor condition, limited number of pillows, no coffee/tea, toilet seat not the right shape for toilet bowl, very poor lighting, room walls very dark and the list goes on. Would not stay here again. The only redeeming feature was that the front desk clerk was friendly.

Paid $109 per night to sleep on a wore out mattress that was held up with 2x6 boards pillows were only 1” thick, a/c unit falling out of wall and knobs we’re broke so you can’t change anything and was cool air at best, Dirt around bed and broken tiles in bathroom that you could cut you feet on, flys coming out of overflow of sink. Handle for shower falling off, toilet seat very loose to the point you could slip off, table stickey with something, smoke detector was missing with paper towels shoved in hole where it was, smelled musty, no dead bolt on door. Wouldn’t recommend it to my worst enemy. Walked into office and waited and waited had to go back out and ring doorbell to get someone. The soap I could not get to lather on a face cloth it’s so cheep. Way over priced for what it is. Not worth more than $50 with tax at best.
• Wendy (4/5): - The bed was broken. The baseboard heater had never been cleaned. The bathroom was so small we left the door open so we had room to move. We had no heat, it didn’t work.
• Mervin (1/5): DO NOT STAY HERE - Location only. Absolutely deplorable. Not only is it extremely run down it’s filthy beyond belief. The laminate flooring doesn’t look too old but it has most likely never been washed. The picture is of a bit of water spilt and wiped showing the grime. There are positive reviews which are either the owner embellishing the property or someone with a chemical habit. There is no effort being put into this Motel DO NOT STAY HERE. The only thing clean was the bedding.
• Alan (4/5): - Had only 1 facecloth and 1 hand towel , the light over the bed had i light hanging out with blud not working, the other blud kept going dimp and getting brighter all night , a short i am sure ! The floor hadn't been mop / clean in a long time , my wifes feet was black ? The hot water took at least 10 minutes to get ? The bathroom had a electric plate over the mirror where a light use to hang ? Over the desk there was a light fixture with no blud in it ? There was no heat turn that was available other then a plug in heater ? Wouldn't return and would not recommend this place to anyone ?
• Lindsay (5/5): Disappointing facilities, amazing staff! - Safe were super friendly! They were the best part of the motel for sure. Good location, about 10 min drive to town and ferry. This is a very sketchy motel. We unfortunately didn’t read the reviews before we went and definitely regretted it. The rooms had fixtures pulled out of the wall (mirrors, towel hangers etc) and stains on the ceilings and walls. There were also some pretty sketchy people staying there and they kept coming up to us and asking us to go into town with them. The staff were great and did come out to make sure we were okay though so we appreciated that.

• Ashley (10/5): - I love the little Courtyard with the barbecue and benches for guests to use. Management was super welcoming to myself and my service dog and everyone was very friendly. The room needs a little bit of work but I can tell it's in process. Light bulbs need to be checked. There was no coffee machine my second stay, but I didn't ask about that so I can't complain. Very clean and comfortable.
• James (4/5): - Sometimes you find a gem....this is NOT it! Check in, no one at reception, just a number to phone. Exterior poor maintenance, peeling paint. Interior, no tea and coffe, mix and match battered furniture. Fridge with broken fascia. Small microwave but no cups, plates or cutlery. Bathroom very small with toilet between shower and basin with barely room to pass. Towel rack hanging off wall, bathmat dirty and holed. Air con unit badly fitted and noisy. The only plug next to bed was on the base of a lamp. But was off when the lamp was off. No good for a CPAP. Never saw any staff during two day stay. Expedia should drop this place like a hot coal.

In fact I used 2 blankets that were in my car to sleep on I was afraid of bed bugs!! So I slept fully clothed!! Horrible and I want a refund!!! Don’t you do any due diligence work?

• Beverley (7/5): The room is very basic, but the motel is in a lovely location, and the managers are wonderful. - The managers were so nice, and super helpful. I needed a can opener, and they lent me one- also suggesting that I might like some spices to enhance my bean salad. They gave some some, which transformed our humble dinner! They also gave us an extra towel, when we asked for one. The furniture was very comfortable. The room has no coffee maker, and no place close by which sold coffee. Luckily, we had our own coffee, filter, and cups. We microwaved the water, so were able to make it work.

Then he wouldn’t take Expedia’s call to authorize a refund. Expedia made many attempts and owner refused. • Jennifer Leah LeBlanc (7/5): - The management were really nice family, and helpful. I do think if they put some money into place replace furniture and clean it up a bit it will be a nice motel. The rooms could be upgraded very old furniture falling apart.

Shower floor “mat” had hug hole in it. Pillows very thin only one per sleeping spot. Mattress was not the most comfortable. Very nice staff. Other young group of patrons were drinking right in front of our room, were respectful though.
