Guest Reviews
- Jeen maria (10/5): - Clean Atmosphere. Nice stay
- Russell (4/5): - The property is very old with some updates but still smells like a very old place. No operating bathroom fans and very small room. With all that was in the room it was very crowded. We had to plug in the fridge so it took along time to cool down. Knowing the room was booked this should have been thought of prior to us showing up.
- Mona (8/5): - The owner/ manager was extremely courteous and very nice.
Was concerned in regards to a missing smoke alarm
- Renee (8/5): - retrofitted older motel. deadbolt not working. Nick was very nice. Other patrons up at 4 am making lots of noise. Glad to have fridge and microwave. Just used to sleep
- Anthony (4/5): - Old out dated Cobb webs in the corners ,flys , nats flaying around everything seamed to be clean besides that just not very good with the price in my opinion
- Nancy (10/5): Great Budget Stay - The Mindemoya Motel is a reliable place with friendly owners and clean rooms. We’ve stayed several times when visiting family, it’s convenient to all attractions on the island and the owners are lovely.
- kelly (4/5): - It was close to Providence bay which I wanted but overpriced for the outdated room I got which was the farthest in the entire motel. I felt like I was hiding out. Pastel colour scheme from the eighties whereas the other rooms had a modern colour scheme. Walls were all marked up everywhere. Room was freezing cold and way too hot at 4:00 in the morning because I couldn't regulated it well because thermostat was from the seventies. He said all the rooms were the same which they weren't. I won't be returning.
- Andrea (4/5): Not very organized - The owners seemd a little confused, even though i had already booked agead of time. He said they would give me an a different bigger room because the tv in my original room was not working. He then went into the room he was giving me, exchanged tv's. The room had two beds, but only was made up, the other only had a mattress cover.
We were given 1 face cloth, 1 hand towel, 4 shampoos.
I think the owners are doing the best they can, but it's not great.
- Robert (8/5): - Quiet friendly owner clean standard rooms
- frank (8/5): - 👍
- Julie (10/5): - A few upgrades have been done in the room were I stayed in. Nick is very nice and helpful. I would stay there again when I go back to manitoulin island.
- Marifer (10/5): - Really nice stay, and they were really friendly and nice, they gave us eating and recreational recommendations.

- Christine (10/5): - Very clean and quiet. Owners onsite and very helpful.
- Che Ebenezer (8/5): - Room is clean. Host is friendly and customer service is great. Close to Provenance Bay which is a great beach.
- Dana (8/5): - Friendly staff, clean room
- Steve (4/5): - Beds were good. Adequate for a room just to sleep in.
Poor internet connection.
- Rafael (10/5): - Staff was checking by phone when I was checking in which was very proactive
- Janet (8/5): - Owners were very helpful and friendly. Great service
- Manuela (8/5): - Fair value
- Walter (6/5): - The room was clean, beds were fine, delicious coffee!
Some serious TLC of the motel and surroundings would improve the ratings and therefore occupancy !
- Steven (8/5): - Owners are friendly and great, always ready to help with anything. This hotel is greatly situated for various activities. The accommodations aren’t the best but it’s clean. Wifi internet is non existent, supposed to have Starlink shortly
- Angeline (8/5): -
We enjoyed our stay and the owner name Nick he is very friendly helpful and kind. if we ever going back again next time we will book on this motel again and I will definately recommend this motel to my family and friends.
- Daniel (8/5): - I stay at a lot of motels and this one was spotless. A fantastic location to enjoy Providence Bay minutes away.
A new tv and dresser combo and this would be one of the best budget motels I've stayed at.
If you are looking for a clean, comfortable no nonsense place. This is it!
- Ted (10/5): - Very warm welcome.
- Al (8/5): - Property is dated but clean
- Adela (10/5): - Great place to stay on the island
- wieslaw (10/5): - During my recent trip to Manitoulin lsland , l had the pleasure of staying at Mindemoya Motel, and l cannot recommend it highly enough.
From the moment I arrived, l was impressed by the level of cleanliness and attention to detail throughout the property.
The room was spotless, well maintained and provided a comfortable and inviting atmosphere that made me feel at home.
The true highlight of my stay was the owners, Nick and his wife. They were incredibly friendly and helpful, ensuring that every guest had a pleasant experience. Their warm hospitality and genuine care for their guests' comfort truly set this motel apart from others.
The atmosphere at Mindemoya Motel is both welcoming and peaceful. It felt like a safe heaven where l could relax and unwind after a long day of exploring the nearby attractions.
Speaking of location, the motel is conveniently situated close to several points of interest, making it an ideal base for sightseeing and adventure.
Overall, my stay at Mindemoya Motel was exceptional. The combination of a clean environment, wonderful owners , great atmosphere and a safe location close to key attractions made for a memorable and enjoyable experience.
I look forward to returning on my next visit to Manitoulin island.
- S (10/5): - It’s clean, newly renovated, great service
- kathy (2/5): - Very small room and bathroom
- Ray (4/5): Not going to stay again - The room was so small you couldn’t even change your mind in it. The bed was older than me and I’m 74. Couldn’t understand a word the clerk said
- jaspreet (10/5): - I loved the hospitality extended by the hotel - Mindemoya is a small quite town with a small town charm.
- Sayem (10/5): - Last minute, not bad
- Chris (6/5): - The owners are very nice and repeatedly asked if they could do anything to make our stay better
- Karen (6/5): - The new owners are in the process of renovating the property. The bathroom was completed and nice. The thermostat did not work. Therefore we were not able to regulate the heat to comfortable level during out stay. The owner stated that they are in the processing of changing out the thermostat.
- Paal (8/5): - Looks like there are new owners. They are currently renovating the property. The room is clean and in very good shape. They have done a nice job. It’s a basic motel but would recommend for a one night stay.
- Vern (8/5): - motel was being renovated and materials laying out side. My unit was complete and super new. I thought the stay o/n was over charged as other stays at other motels that we used where $20 to $50 cheaper for the similar facilities. Other than the costs it was good
- Janet (6/5): - The room was very, very small and we were thankful we were only there for 1 night. The only other issue was the bathroom, although nicely renovated, did have a mildew smell. We would not consider staying there again. The owner was very pleasant and the room was clean.
- Karl (8/5): - Property is clean and quiet providing a good nights rest while traveling.
- Raymond (6/5): - No shower head in bathroom. Small Rooms.
- David (4/5): - Noisy bathroom fan in adjacent room going on and off all night.
- Carla (4/5): - Seriously overpriced. Old property that it appears owners are trying to update. Bathroom ok and new carpeting. Linens were awful. Old fashioned bedspread was concerning—hard to believe it’s washed after each stay. Pillows uncomfortable. Everything related to where one sleeps is sub-par. If the mattress was new, it was inexpensive. Bottom line, it is the type of place typically found in the very bottom tier of pricing—not in a mid tier.
- Sarah (10/5): - Excellent customer service. Room was clean and we had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend!
- Glen (10/5): - Nick & his wife work extra hard to please there guests.
The new renovations look great and rooms bright and clean.
Here is the disappointing partExpedia did nothing to assure our stay here at the motel.
Do yourselves a favor avoid Expedia and deal with the hosts themselves.
I rate the Motel 5 star
Expedia zero they would have left us out in the cold never booking our stay ......sad
- Linda (8/5): - The hotel owners were pleasant and helpful. Our room was clean as was the property. We enjoyed the ac which worked well, as did the shower. We also liked the convenience of parking in front of our door . Our only disappoinment was the tv which was not " smart" and offered an extremely limited number of channels.
- josie (2/5): mindemoya - we booked the room but when we arrived he said he didnt have the booking..but to call and cancel and then he would book it for us.. but then he said he had it but because it wasnt the same room type he didnt want to give it to us via hotels.com or said for me to pay the 15percent on top that he had to pay hotels and i said no and we left..this hotel shud not be on hotels.com as they dont want to pay for being on the site
- Francis (10/5): - Great
- Helen (8/5): - It was okay and the owner was extremely helpful
- Adam (2/5): - Got there to check in to double bed room the “sleep 4” get there and the guy tired to charge me for the third guy! Never stayed cancelled the reservation. And I want my money back.
Nothing in the listing that I had to pay for more then 2 people. It said sleeps 4 adults.
- Joan (8/5): - Property owner is in process of upgrading hotel in this little town motel with new tubs, sinks, and tile floors in bathroom and new carpets. He is also in process of putting siding on building. It was quiet with no noise of construction during the time we stayed. The owner was a pleasant gentleman. The beds could use a light blanket as it was only a sheet and quilted type bedspread.
- Gordon (4/5): - Tiny little room and very old and beat up
- Manfred (6/5): - The staff was very kind and extremely helpful. Wifi didn't really work.
- Brian (4/5): - The room was updated and clean. The management was very friendly and helpful. The room was expensive for what you got - it was quite small. The management has obviously been working to upgrade the property but has a long way to go. By the way I travelled for more than 15 years on business across North America so have experience with the best and worst properties.
- Cheryl (10/5): - Very pleasant couple operating this Motel!
It had been renovated inside our room which was the perfect size for our needs
The exterior is a work in progress as was explained!
They take pride in the ownership and quality of their property
Complimented her on the quality of their towels!
Wish I had some at my own place 😊
- Thong (10/5): - The motel is clean and nice and the owner is friendly.
- Jithin (10/5): - Was really a nice stay. Will recommend for others especially family
- Delwyn (2/5): - Very filthy, smelly rooms with very outdated furniture torn and broken furniture. The owners were rude. When complained about the FILTHY Oven ,the caretaker(the lady at the front desk) she said if you don’t use it then you don’t have to worry about it( then why is the room is so expensive..: for hot water?) the rooms were not at all cleaned properly and the lamps were not working( which means they never inspected the room before giving it to the guests) and only after a complaint they changed it. The showers won’t give hot water consistently and suddenly you will feel a jolt of cold water charging you during your hot bath. The floors were shaky and felt like it would collapse at any moment and for every complaint you gave to him(Nick the caretaker/ property manager) got more angry. It was quite apparent from the pitch of his voice and then we stop arguing. I would request Expedia to inspect the property to know the reality of what they’re giving it’s customer and remove this property from their ads as it is dangerous to stay there.
- Mike (8/5): - Management was in the process of renewing the rooms. I was done . was nicely done but needed a few finishing touches. Bed was very comfortable and quiet.
There was no restaurants in the area that was open.
- Liz (6/5): - The room was clean. It was extremely small and there wasn’t a place to hang your coat or clothes. The bathroom had no counter space for toiletries. It made for an uncomfortable stay.
- James (2/5): - A dump. Mostly a local resident hotel for the down and out. Office was a dump with just enough room for one person to stand surrounded by boxes and trash. Outrageous to charge that amount!
- Kathleen (4/5): At least the room did not smell musty. - Some upgrades were done in the room and bathroom. No bedside lamp. The mattress had a vinyl projector which made any shifting in bed very loud.
Very thin walls. Luckily the people next door went to bed early. Front office is a mess. Not very welcoming.
- Lori (8/5): - Just a stop over and room’s recently redone. Proprietor pleasant.
- Ginette (2/5): - They canceled my reservation the day of check in and left me and my 8 yrs old granddaughter with no hotel. We had to sleep in our truck. Driving from Wpg to Niagara
- Azhar (10/5): - The owners of this motel are amazing. Nick and his wife were really friendly and accommodating. Don't judge this motel by the outside, as the inside is really well furnished and kept clean. The fridge had a smell but the owners assured us that they're aiming to replace them. They mentioned their plan on completing all inner renovations before moving to the exterior.
Keep in mind that the address shown by Expedia is a little off (you have to drive further down past the chrysler dealership), but just call the front desk if you get lost!
- Sumit (10/5): - Amazing place
- Jim (2/5): - They couldn’t find the reservation. Told me they ere full.
The place was a filthy dump in the middle of nowhere.
After driving 10ths , we had to drive 2 more to find a room.
Was told to cancel online and I’d get a refund, I am waiting for it.
- Mike (10/5): - Very accommodating!! Went way above and beyond to help us with an item left behind when we were on a deadline to catch the ferry from South Baymouth. Also, made personal items available for our dinner that we grilled onsite. Outside upgrades are in process, but room interior was very nicely upgraded! We were on a motorcycle trip going through Manitoulin Island and this was a great place to stop and stay!
- Andrij (10/5): Great time! - Had a really great stay here. Manager let us know of some great places to visit and ended up having a really great weekend!
- Stephanie (2/5): - The owner/manager of this place is horrendous to deal with. His customer service is horrible. He called me because the visa debit I had on file to hold the room didn’t go through and advised he had cancelled it. When I offered a MC he said no I already sent the cancellation to Expedia. He told me it was too late to do anything about it because it’s already cancelled.
We were taking the ferry over to Manitoulin Island, I had booked this place over three months in advance and now he’s telling me it’s cancelled. We were so upset. He wasn’t willing to help at all so I had to get Expedia to speak with him. He speaks so fast you have no idea what he’s saying and isn’t willing to help in tough situations.
We didn’t end up staying the night as the ferry was cancelled and we couldn’t get over to the island. He charged my credit card anyway. We will NEVER stay here if we decide to go to the island again.
- April (2/5): - They cancelled our room the day before we arrived at the motel.
- harinder pal (10/5): - very nice
- Douglas (8/5): - A nice quiet place to stop over for the night. Dated motel but room was clean and comfortable. Mgr was friendly
- helen (8/5): - owner very friendley, our sheets are fresh and hung out side ( loved them ).
- Joe (2/5): - Nothing
- Cody (10/5): - Nice quiet little motel in a quiet little town. Newly renovated rooms, perfect for a quick nights stay when traveling through the island. Owners are very friendly and ready to help you at a moments notice.
- Alexis (2/5): - The conditions of this place words can’t describe. The beds were not even put together and I don’t mean with bedding. They were literally not assembled. Dirty, filthy, very very disappointing. Should not be a part of Expedia.
- Tyler (8/5): - They were doing Reno’s on our regular booked room so they put us up in a larger room (basically an apartment) will be back for sure!
- Kimberley (8/5): - The hosts were very pleasant. It was a bit cold in the room at first, but nice once it warmed up. Unfortunately not the cleanest place.
- Francis (8/5): - Property is neat and clean but outdated. Nick and his wife were very helpful.
- Andre (10/5): - It was comfortable
- Robert (6/5): - The picture on the left misrepresents the current overall appearance of the property. It looks run down and in need of a major face lift. It is very basic.
- Gavin (4/5): - New building but shabby construction and very small room. They could easily have made it just a bit bigger and thus much more comfortable. The place was very difficult to find and get to, especially in the dark. Should come with good directions. Wouldn't go there again. BTW, new towels were brought for us, cheap pillows and linens were tacky.
- Hiltrud (2/5): - Too extensive, not worth the price
- Paolo (10/5): A gem in the wilderness - The owner was amazing and a welcome for us after a long trip to Manitoulin Island. They went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The island has an old charm and this motel is one example of that. A comfortable and friendly stay in an island almost untouched by time.
- Romana (8/5): - Nick was very accommodating from the beginning. We had a very comfortable stay. Room was clean & cozy. The location was close to town and eateries & M'Chigeeng which has many areas of interest
- Suzanne (6/5): - Property is old and run down. Thought i was going to fall through the floors. The old indoor outdoor carpet is the only thing that kept us from falling through. The room was clean is the only good thing. Way over-priced gor such a old run down motel.
- Michelle (6/5): Outdated, but has promise - A bit outdated, no frills motel. Some clutter outside and around property. The room was still being cleaned when we arrived at 4pm, however the owner/manager was very nice, and tried to be hospitable
- Thomas (2/5): - Avoid if possible. This is the worst of everything.
- Victoria (8/5): - The Mindemoya Motel suited me just fine for a quick overnight stay on Manitoulin. It's a "basics" kind of motel, but it did the most important things well: my room and linens were very clean (I could smell the sanitizer upon arrival), and the host was very friendly and even phoned me right away to let me know I'd left something behind in my room accidentally.
The A/C was a bit loud but since the evening air through the window was cool enough I turned it off. The WIFI was hit and miss, only getting two bars most of the time and sometimes dropped out altogether. I didn't use the TV but I can report that it was getting roughly 20 channels in standard definition.
The Mindemoya Motel is also nicely, centrally located on the island, which was a priority for me, and a short drive into the village where there was a grocery store and LCBO, a couple of restaurants, ice cream shop, hardware store, gift shop and some other conveniences.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice motel in a nice place!
- Jeremy (2/5): - There wasn’t much to like about it
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely setting next to wooded area
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The floors NEED to be replaced in this place. The whole floor was spongy and the room caved towards the Center. Couldn’t step without everything sounding like it was going to fall. Water pressure was good until someone else used it. The walls were very thin and you get a lot of noise travel room to room. Was not worth half of what we paid for it. Very overpriced.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I didn't like that there was no restaurants within walking distance and no shops near by.
Staff was very accommodating & friendly but motel needed upgrades.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Tiny room 8’x15’. Old bed quilt that I didn’t want to touch.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The walls between units are very thin. My next door neighbour snored very loudly and prevented me having a restful sleep.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The location was what we wanted but we were kinda shocked that Expedia recommended this Motel and a $95. We've stayed in $50 motels/hotels that were better. Extremely small room, not a queen bed as advertised. Wifi didn't work, run down. Smoke detector without battery. Walls pealing. Old uncomfortable mattress on a bed that most people would take to the dumb. No shower head in shower.$40 should be the price. We should have had to pay $95 and wish partial rebate were possible. We would have been better to book on our own a much better place in town for 4 dollars more.
- Mithouna (6/5): Over price - Very old hotel, they dodnt really have our room ready for us. I also think that i over pay, 2 nights for $260 i didn't thinknitvwas worth it.
Byt the owner was very nice.
