Guest Reviews
- William (10/5): Hot Springs - Very comfortable. Great to have a dining room to use.
- Chantae (6/5): - The ac doesn’t work very well when it’s hot out.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great beds and excellent showers. Beautiful building as well
- Hannah (6/5): - The owners of this property were very helpful regarding check in and directions. I don’t believe the property is worth the price they charge. It is an old building and not a typical hotel so for what you get I feel it was overpriced. For the most part is was quiet and fairly clean. There is no staff on site after 8 PM and there is a lock code in the main entrance to come and go which was not the safest to me.
- Joanne (10/5): - Absolutely delightful old hotel, beautifully appointed and located on the Main Street in a very lovely little town. We were delighted to find that this was more of a BnB than a hotel. Lovely furnishings and every comfort accommodated. A nice bar and common area and a lovely dining room serving absolutely delicious food with excellent, friendly service! There are also spa facilities on site - sauna, granite room, sand room and massage therapy rooms available. Communication with host was clear and prompt. Convenient access with door codes and clear directions and explanations. I can highly recommend! 10 out of 10! We wish we had planned to stay more than one night. We will definitely stay there if we come to the area again!
- Rick (10/5): - this is a really great property. These folks are just getting started with it and managed to gracefully handle all issues even though they’re in the throes of starting up their Airbnb they were wonderful staff, and I truly look forward to seeing them grow and growing this business with these really cool historical rooms and space.
- Justin (10/5): - We
- Verified traveler (10/5): Best location and great rooms with charm. - The building is from the 19th century so it has a charm to it. The floors are pretty good. The heater was able to make it comfortable as it was maybe 40F outside at night. Maybe it was colder. I really want to love this place as the location is great, the owners were very friendly and accommodating but keeping in mind the price in a perfect world the hallways wouldn't creep in so much noise from other guests. That's perhaps my only complaint. The doors being perhaps the thing I wish kept more sound out. It wasn't bad but I was with my kids and definitely imagined we were making noise too. With good weather the walkability of this location is amazing. THe new construction for the sidewalks is gorgeous and we enjoyed visiting the food, shops and movie theatre. The river is also a joy to walk along. The room was great but for the price I wish it was a bit nicer. I would stay again though as the location is just too good.
- Joanna (10/5): - Was a very beautiful room, cozy n private. Definitely planning on revisiting!
- Laura (4/5): - Out dated, not terribly clean. Decor is lacking. Very minimal not worth the price.
- Patricia (10/5): - This is a very nice property and we enjoyed our stay. Rooms are very nice and updated. Construction on River Street detracts from the whole Hot Springs experience but when it’s through it will be nice. The hotel is historic and is within walking distance of restaurants and shops, along with Evan’s Plunge (pool). I would stay again!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Minimal service hotel. - This hotel is just a hotel - not a “resort” or “spa”. Service is minimal because they are in the process of selling up. If you just want a comfortable room for the night, you’ll get that, but don’t expect anything more. The restaurant was closed, as were other restaurants in the town. Whole city seems to be struggling to survive, meanwhile all the streets are being dug up for renovations resulting in one giant construction site and a frustrating temporary one way system.
- Kent (6/5): - Should not be promoted as a spa...a partially renovated 100-year-old building, yes.
We stayed on a Monday night. It was Very weird to have to walk through a restaurant full of people eating supper, with our luggage to carry our bags ourselves up a flight of stairs to our room.
Restaurant staff left the building at 10 pm, so when we came down in the am to leave at 8, the front door was locked! Didn't know if we'd be able to get out as NO ONE but us was in the building!
Lastly, I had reserved the room on a spare credit card hoping to change the actual charge to another when we stayed. The first card had been "run" and charged off days before we arrived, and I was not allowed to change cards (per the owner by phone)
The whole experience was a way too "Boutique" for us to ever stay there again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Just...ok - Room was small. Community fridge only where our beverages were stolen and our pizza was rifled through. Door locks are tricky. Will do for a night's sleep, clean and comfy beds but not awesome for the price.
- Susan (6/5): Hotel in Hot Springs - This hotel is well located in Hot Springs. It is clean but a little weathered. The room was comfortable and there are plenty of common rooms to sit in. A lot of activity in the restaurant and bar.
- Phil (10/5): - Great place
- Faye (10/5): Lovely Vintage Hotel - Love staying in vintage hotels and this did not disappoint! The community area with fridge and table was much appreciated. Will definitely stay here again!
- David (2/5): - Run!! Do not go here. Pricey, with terrible air conditioning (ancient window unit), lights not working, moldy smelling towels, tv screen sprayed with sticky substance, and communal fridge, with bad ice. Oh, and lots of flies. I'd rather sleep in my vehicle!
- Sam (8/5): - Unique hotel, never seen anything like it. Beautiful old stone building with incredibly high ceilings! good food in restaurant.
- Gordon (6/5): - Concept of the old Inn is lovely BUT needs a lot of work…now sure about security issues…not worth the price honestly…fancy shower
- David (6/5): - It is a vintage hotel that was poorly renovated. It has no charmed. My room was furnished with old mismatch furniture. The hotel is way overpriced.
- Oscar (10/5): Random hidden gem! - Great hospitality! Very accommodating to any needs we had. Best Chislic ever! Would definitely stay there again!
- susan (4/5): - Restaurant closed due to wedding reception & only one place invtown open. No one around & for help after 9 pm. Water in faucet horrible.
- Johnny (8/5): - Great location comes with history. Be prepared for historical level services but for use that was never an issue. Good steaks and food at hotel. Breakfast down the street and walking distance to spa. Easy access to park. Everything we wanted.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Julie was great!! Helped us upgrade, with dinner, and around town suggestions. Hotel done well with it’s age and charm.
- Rika (4/5): - This place could be a hotel with unique old charms. It needs to be cleaned better - the bathtub drain was clogged with matted chunk of hairs. We were stepping on whatever the pieces were on the floor. The dry sauna had a sign of ' take shower before use.' No water was running and there were no towels. Far from what you imagine from spa and resort.
- Tim (2/5): - We arrived in Hot Springs, ate lunch, and then visited Evan’s Plunge. Our 7 month old son became ill while at Evan’s Plunge so we made the decision to drive back to Gillette. I spoke with one of the owners of the “resort” and told him our situation. He expressed that they have a 48 hour cancellation policy. I understood that. Then I told him that we couldn’t predict our child getting sick. He then said that he would discuss it with his wife. I didn’t hear anything back, and still ended up getting charged for the night. I understand that a hotel needs to make their money, but I figured a mom and pop hotel would understand a situation no one could predict; especially in this day and age. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Absolutely disappointed.
- Sheli (8/5): - The old time charm and grandeur of the hotel was wonderful. There was no place in town to get any decent food.
- Laila (8/5): - The bedroom was very comfortable (loved my pillow!). The bath shower/tub did not have safety bars which for an old person was not comfortable. Our bath had nice amenities in the tub but our room had no Kleenex or after bath lotion….2 very minor things!
- Verified traveler (2/5): This place was terrible. - Not what it claims. Don’t stay here. Never found the hot tub. Restaurant, bar and anything to eat is not within walking distance.
The river is not visible from the hotel, anywhere. Tiny a/c window unit was totally inadequate. Got our money back before we settled in. Very disappointed in Hotels.com
Did not use them for our next stay. May not use them anymore.
- Kirstin (10/5): Charming and comfortable - We only had a quick overnight and wished that we could stay longer. The hotel has great historic character without sacrificing comfort. The owners were friendly and helpful. Due to COVID, we couldn't take advantage of their full range of services/amenities - but look forward to returning to do so in the future. Truly a delight.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Old property differently not a resort. Had booked spa 2 weeks earlier on the day of check out. The adolescent that checked us in failed to mention no therapist available. No one was ever at desk to talk to. I would never recommend this place to anyone.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - DO NOT reserve through expedia. I made a reservation neither expedia nor the property owner would let me out of when I discovered by reserving directly with the hotel I could have saved $100! Who gets the extra $100? Do expedia and the property owner split it? If you are going to stay here, call the hotel directly to reserve.
The hotel is pretty nice, but for $180 for their more minimal rooms (I paid $280 through expedia) I think they could have towels in the room-we checked in two hours after check in time) and perhaps a clean bathroom door and walls (beautiful white trim with smudge marks everywhere.) It was not an overworked staff issue like we'd seen at the other hotels we stayed at in the Black Hills - several rooms were wide open so you could see what they looked like, so I would guess the place was maybe half to 3/4 full when we stayed.
We didn't use the spa. The rooms themselves are really nicely decorated, and the beds comfortable. Its a fun change of pace from other hotels, but not worth $280 for a dusty room with no towels. We didn't really enjoy Hot Springs as whole, so I doubt we'll go back, but if I did, I would try another hotel. This one is not worth the price tag to me, even at $180.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The one staff person we saw was very helpful with check in. However, the town and the hotel felt rundown and depressed. The bathroom needs updating and the room door felt more like room doors in a home versus secure hotel doors. Overall, I would not recommmend this hotel.
- Kathleen M (6/5): What’s in a name? - Not what I expected from “resort” & “spa.” I’m sure it will be great when it’s finished and I know Covid impacted that progress, but …
Staff was friendly and helpful if you could find the one person on duty.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Loved all the charm of this establishment and the friendliness of the owners and staff.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Too little for the money - The lobby lights & nearby bar area were off and nobody there to greet guests. I had to ask a man in cowboy boots & work clothes if the place was even open for business. The freight elevator requires a metal accordion door inside to be closed before the thing worked. Staff left it ajar so personally had to go down stairs to fix it or carry heavy luggage down the staircase. Ice in communal refrigerator was frozen solid. Not sanitary for guests to be handling shared ice that came out of a bag & placed in bins. The window a/c unit started making so much noise in middle of night I had to shut it off. The deadbolt on the door didn't work. With no visible professional looking staff in lobby area, all the lights off on 1st floor and not being able to lock the deadbolt to the room...as a solo traveler I did not feel safe and will never stay there again. Lastly there were no recommendations given regarding nearby places to eat or get breakfast. Sad & disappointing because I was expecting so much charm.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Hotel was beautiful, very old and historic. Smelled very fresh, room was beautiful, comfortable and had lots of space and nice views.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Cool old place, never saw anyone else in the place. Never met anyone at the front desk, or at check out.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - If you're looking for an authentic old-time experience, this is your place. Keep in mind, the Ritz this is not. But the charm of the old days is all there, from the Victorian high ceilings, to the chandeliers, to the great big parlors on every floor. The elevator is even the ancient kind with pull-close doors, and it won't go until YOU pull them closed!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Truly enjoyed our visit would stay there again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very fun and unique property. Loved our stay. We will be back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice classy little place. - I liked this hotel. Really tasteful and charming decor. Located in a good area with two nice breakfast cafes nearby. Good architecture. Everything was clean. Didn't feel cookie-cutter.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I loved everything about our stay! So welcoming, and very relaxing here! We are very thakful for the easy, and friendly check in. It was a very beautiful hotel and spa. We can't wait to return. Thank you! 💜
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Well maintained, quiet, easy accesses, and the bed was sooo comfy!!
- Enola (4/5): Not so nice of a place!! - Bedspread was tore everytime I would pull it up it would tear more the fan didn't work no coffee anywhere paid for the spa pkg and the hot tub was broke! Cold in the room at night very noisy in the morning!!
- Victoria (8/5): - The massage therapist was amazing.
- RON (10/5): - Loved everything about my stay, quiet, great ambience, just wonderdul
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very nice place to stay, very much like a bed and breakfast atmosphere
- Todd (6/5): Underwhelming and overpaid - One night stay on our way to Badlands and Mt Rushmore. We were excited to stay because of the reviews and the promise of a River View room. No staff to greet us, no dining options, no hair dryer or ironing board and NO River View , just a view of the road that goes over the River. For the price paid we were deeply underwhelmed to find old furniture and bedding and only a shared communal fridge which is just gross during Covid times.
- Shawn (8/5): Overnight stay in Hot Springs, SD - We were in the area for the 4th of July weekend, we booked this hotel really late, but were pleased with our stay! The lady who greeted us was very friendly and welcoming! Our room was very clean and ready. I do think the outside of the building could use some work.
- William (8/5): - Ask about wifi. Didn’t work for us but only there one night. Obviously under slow renovation but very good beddings and toilet amenities. Very clean and very helpful and friendly staff.
- Bec (10/5): - The owner was wonderful- attended to anything we needed. The location is fabulous on River Street. We enjoyed the massage chairs and heated floor rooms . Will stay there again .
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location. The owners are working hard to keep the original theme in good condition.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Love old buildings with characters. The owner are wonderful
And awesome personalities. Down to earth very people people. Love it 😍
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The building has the unique qualities of a historical building. Quiet, location, handy parking, good restaurant.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I loved how old the building was and how tall the ceilings are
