Guest Reviews
- Lily Hoi Li (8/5): - The history.
- Alicia (10/5): - Gorgeous old hall in a very picturesque village and close to so many trails. My single room also had its own bathroom.
Very affordable. Most affordable place I stayed during my trip. Limited food choices in the village. Reserve ahead if you want to eat at the pub.
No laundry facilities available.

- Robert (10/5): A perfect Gem among rolling,
and wooded countryside - It was my first visit, there. In a beautiful area, visited the ancient parish church to hear and see campanilogists, in action. Also, look at the resting-places "inside" the church. There is a village, there, and there are scenic walks from the road the Hall IS next to. Not like Peaks, different altogether. Beds are comfortable with stone- mullioned windows. When we were there there were many families with children. A Breakfast lounge with multiple dining areas around it. We stayed in gender-specific dorms, but for £18, we had a bargain. It looks totally isolated, there is a pub in the village. Beautiful sunset, for us, too. Adequate car park. I would visit again, but for longer. Nothing, it is what it is.

- Justin (9/5): - I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. Hartington is a lovely, scenic, peaceful area to stay in when looking for a break from the busy city life. Best hostel I've stayed at. Also, walks down the River Dove are a must when you're here.
- McDonald (9/5): - Nice atmosphere. No TV in room.

- Anstey (7/5): Great location, beautiful building and a fun place to stay and meet like minded people. - Farm adjacent. Good staff, amazing location. No lock on toilet door, LED lights by bed too light that they disturb those in other beds

- Lubica (10/5): - Liked everything, beautiful location, nice and clean hostel, good dinner & breakfast menu.
We'll be back!
- Kata (8/5): Good value for money and lovely staff - Lovely building and excellent location, great value for money. Most of the staff were very lovely and friendly. Nice to have a shower and a sink in the room. One of the shared toilets upstairs didn’t have a lock, so people didn’t use it, and consequently everyone used the one right next to my bedroom, which can be disturbing several times at night (the head end of my bed was right next to the wall). Parking is a bit small and awkward.
- Kerry (10/5): A Unique Historical Hostel in a Stunning Location - Such a beautiful hostel. Bathrooms and toilets were spotless and nicely presented. I stayed in Bonnie Prince Charlie's room which was simply magical with the original oak panelling dating back to the 17th century. The bed was super comfy and the room was clean and warm. I loved it, and would definitely stay again.

- Micaela (7/5): Great location and great value for money! - Amazing building, lovely clean room and facilities. Shower and sink in each private room. Mattress extremely uncomfortable and pillows hard. However I’m not complaining as all was great value for money!!
- Kaylee (9/5): Amazing location, will definitely be back. - We loved our little room. Great value for money and amazing location. Kitchen has great facilities. Nothing, we loved it.
- Jonathan (9/5): - Nice staff, clean and warm room Nothing
- Adam (10/5): Basic but comfy and a total bargain - It was a great experience for the kids who havnt stayed in an old stately home before Character
- Emma (5/5): Nice host but the rooms weren't up to expectations - The host was very welcoming and the kitchen made us food even though it was very close to closing time. The duvets were thick - luckily. The check-in time was flexible and the check-out time was reasonable. The mattresses were inflatable mattresses, the room was quite large but only had one small portable heater to warm it so it was quite cold, there was dust & cobwebs everywhere and the floor was very uneven and creaky.
- Newman (7/5): -
- Saffron (9/5): -
- Gary (10/5): Brilliant - Stayed in Bonnie Prince Charlies room which he used nearly 300 yrs ago.

She is a gem. The other staff members were also helpful and everyone had a smile. The room was very clean and spacious and the beds were very comfy. The facilities were fantastic - adults, kids and dogs were all catered for. The location was beautiful. I cannot think of anything that I would have changed. And the price was more than reasonable - absolute value for money. I will definitely stay here again.
- Fiona (10/5): Great value YHA - highly recommend. - Excellent value bunk rooms in lovely old house. Rooms are spacious and beds.comfortable. Plenty of lounge areas to socialise. Food is very decent for mass catering.. Fantastic value for money. Room was a little cold but it was a small point - bring warm clothes.

- Shirley (10/5): Love this hostel!! - The kitchen is really nice and the people as well Nothing
- Mur Wallington (8/5): Friendly staff and good value for money - Lovely, helpful staff There was food on offer, but it wasn’t great
- Sarah (9/5): Great place - The hike maps ,whole place The 5pm is late check in times early check out
when its dark nights driveing down lanes with children and not able to see what is around
- Ola (2/5): Disappointment - Staff and clean beds Very loud guests. You could hear everything through the walls and ceiling. Communal area was really crowded. No heating in the bedroom it was freezing
- Martyna (9/5): Great place to stay - It’s a very well kept hostel, very well organised and clean with many communal areas to choose from. I loved its settings, the property is beautiful. I liked everything but the communal kitchen is on a small side. With so many guests it would be good to have a slightly bigger kitchen.
- Fiona (6/5): You get what you pay for! - Lovely old building with original features in a lovely village.
Good value for money.
Clean sheets and reasonably comfortable bed. It was cold, but expected in such an old property.
There was noise until 3am and then started again at 6.30am with other guests coming back and not caring how much noise they made. Doors slamming, singing and shouting!
The lights outside beamed into the room making it as light as day all night.
- Rob (9/5): Great value stay in a lovely old characterful property, perfect for a walking base - Fantastic old building in a great location Nothing at all really - only slight disappointment was there didn’t seem to be the usual selection of board games to play that most other hostels have.
- Oscar (8/5): - Nice strong shower heads, comfy beds and very useful facilities for self-catering including fridges, ovens, etc.
- Averill (7/5): -
- Melanie (10/5): -
- Kelly (9/5): Will be returning ,cosy and cute ,be lovely in summer with the chess board - The staff are the best ive experienced at a yha. Super friendly happy helpful . Cosy rooms and a sale rail my child found some jeans on . Room above us was very squeaky so could hear every time someone walked but apart from that all was lovely
- Roger (10/5): - Everything, value for money, excellence of the staff, what an amazing place
- Steven (10/5): Great place fora budget break - Staff were very friendly, guests were pleasant. Great location. Would definitely stay here again. Nothing
- SIMON (10/5): Fantastic hostel, very close to both toown ( 2mins) and countryside - Superb English breakfast. Loads of food and delicious! Nothing

- Hariclia (8/5): - The staff were super friendly and the hostel itself is so picturesque
- Balaji Kulathu (9/5): Value for money and tidy room with basic facilities - Very cosy and tidy room with basic facilities.
Parking was useful and location was good overall.
The common kitchen space was useful.and the overall experience was positive.
- Jennai (5/5): Liked the location and price but would not stay here again - Beautiful old building and grounds Our room was in the barn and it was really not nice. It felt very old and dirty. I didn’t want to take my shoes off because the carpet was so gross. The bathroom was also gross. We have stayed at much nicer YHA hostels (that we absolutely loved) so I was surprised at the room condition of this particular property. We love staying at YHA hostels but we will not be returning to this one.
