Guest Reviews
- Eric (10/5): The view - The view and sercice was amazing, but that hill to get to the place was very high, good thing they have a suttle to beaches, the rooms view was amazing and immersing.
- Adrian (10/5): - Beautifully appointed guesthouse with fantastic family rooms. The staff are just the loveliest people imaginable. The pool is great and the view even better. Has to be the standout in the PG area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very safe quiet relaxing the owner Owen very knowledgable wise man beautiful views very helpful I would definitely stay again best coffee ☕️ thankyou for taking care of us food good quality and reasonable
- Wyvern (10/5): - The mountain view on the balcony is absolutely breathtaking.
- James (10/5): - Owen and his lovely wife, Maying, have built a most lovely small resort in the hills over looking the White Beach area. The views from the restaurant are stunning. In back of the hotel is a huge valley and the mountains on the other side. Every employee went out of their way to make my trip enjoyable. During your stay if you have time, please check out his Tribal Hills Adventure Park for a unique experience. Another cool thing to do is to visit the nearby Mangyan Village. My favorite thing about this resort other than the people was the brewed coffee in the mornings while peacefully overlooking the ocean below. Plan to be in the restaurant for the amazing sunsets..
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved staying here for the short time we spent in Puerto Galera. The free transportation to the beach and port was really nice, also the food was excellent! Loved the hike to the nearby falls and our guide was really nice. Thank you!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It’s a very nice hotel.
The dogs barking at 6.30 a.m are a bit annoying.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The resort offered free shuttle transfers to nearby places which we found very helpful. It also offered transfers to and from the ferry which was also very useful. The restaurant staff were friendly and accommodating and the food was always spot on. The reception staff were incredibly helpful both before and during the stay providing me with information to assist with the travel to the island.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff is super-friendly and helpful, and food is great. Owner even invited us to a party at his home on Christmas eve! My fiancée and I had a wonderful time.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location for families who want to enjoy tranquil mountain views, beautiful beaches & fresh seafood. The facilities at Tribal Hills allow fun & excitement for all ages. The pool & spa can be enjoyed by all & for those who like a little adventure i reccomend the ATV experience. Staff are always polite & helpful. One of the best family friendly island getaways that i have experienced.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Friendly stay - Friendly service. Not much to do in the area but a good place to stay before leaving/arriving from Batangas Port.
- Dave (10/5): - We loved everything about this hotel and our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. We were fortunate to have a corner room (#15) with a huge terrace that offered views on one side of the water and beautiful sunsets, and on the other of the steep mountains and dense forests of Mindoro Oriental. I was worried that being up on the mountainside we would have trouble getting to the beach, but there were always two drivers on call and they took us to the main beaches and picked us up again whenever we asked. We ate all our meals from the hotel kitchen--mostly in our room because our terrace was such a beautiful place to dine al fresco. Every meal we ate was delicious, and the servings were so generous that one lunch would feed us for two meals. The two women serving in the dining room were very congenial and friendly as were the ladies in the office and the drivers. The place had the atmosphere of a happy and well run community. Probably due to Owen, the British owner who built the place and with whom we had several fun and conversations. The pool was clean and refreshing. If you go to Puerto Galera be sure to visit the village of the Iraya Mangyan at Talipanan, across from the far end of Aninuan beach (the best beach.) These are the local indigenous people, some of whom still live in their traditional ways deep in the mountains above. Their woven handicrafts are beautifully made, inexpensive and make the best gifts I have seen in the Philippines.
- Xiaotian (8/5): - good shuttle service
- Single Ladies (10/5): superb hotel with a amazing experience!!! - The hotel, the people and the food were great (Food serve per order is good for two @ reasonable price). The best place to relax compared to getting a hotel close to white beach. Well, we can't blame them of the technical problem.. air-con was shutting down due to the wind that caused electrical problem. But they're into improving their facilities to its best. Another thing is.. going-up and down to the hotel was an unforgettable experience!!! Everyone was screaming!!! Hahaha!!! That was really fun!!! Most of all, the owner of the hotel was so simple and approachable. We enjoyed our stay!!!
- Richard (10/5): Great scenery. Great value - Nice place to get away. Scenery from room breath taking. Views of ocean and mountains.
- ellen (10/5): Overall review - Although not a beach front hotel, we enjoyed our stay, staff are very friendly, helpful and approachable. We love the hilltop environment even though it rained the 2 nights 3 days . We also love the shuttle service which was always readily available when needed. Will highly recommend to family and friends.
- Christopher (10/5): A Gem of a Place - We stayed here in October for 4 nights. It was fairly quiet , being off season, so we virtually had the run of the place. We stayed here having read good reviews on tripadvisor and were not disappointed. The view across the valley in the morning was spectacular. The resort is up some steep hills but there is a courtesy bus available at call. the staff were all courteous smiling and helpful. We intend to stay again on my next visit to the Philippines in February
- ej (10/5): clean rooms, friendly staff, adorable dogs - hotel rooms are clean.staff are accomodating and courteous.
- sheldon (10/5): Canadian couple - It was amazing view. Great staff amazing spot. The food was Great ! the hotel helps you whatever you need. I loved it here. Great price the shuttle is great.
- Neil (10/5): A gem of a hotel - The hotel is clean and comfrable. With amazing 360 views of the sea and the mountains. In what was a rather chaotic trip this hotel was the perfect refuge.
- Marta (10/5): Great place to stay at!! - My 2 friends and I stayed at Tribal Hills from about 2 weeks. We had stunning view to the mountains from our room. Not very close to the beach, but transport to 3 different beaches was provided for free (up to 10 pm).
Staff was very friendly and helpful with finding a tour guide to Mt Malasimbo and any other queries regarding tourist attractions, transport etc. Hotel meals were delicious!!
Everything was as per description on the website and our expectations. We highly recommend Tribal Hill! Great atmosphere, friendly people, stunning views and a lots of things to do.
- Lawrence (8/5): Breath taking views - Our stay at this hotel started with a free shuttle from the pier to the hotel. We were greeted with breath taking views here. The owner there is very friendly too....some problems is the branch road to the hotel from the main road if you have a car or motorbike...it's too high to climb but just use the free shuttle and it's ok.....the wi if is very weak and difficult to find A.T.M here but enjoy the simple life for once.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great rooms, great view, great staffs mountain res - Really enjoyed my stay here. one side is the view of the sea and the other the mountain. imagine waking up to these views side by side. they are not beach front but they provide shuttle service for guest going to and fro white beach or talipanan. just need to contact the driver or the kind receptionist. Booked a standard room and i would say it is way better than the other standard in resort i have been. There is a restaurant if you want to eat but just until dinner time. Staffs are great as well, very attending just tell them what you need. if you dont want to go to the beach there is a swimming pool for adults and children and a minibar you can order refereshments to. definitely recommending this to my relatives and friends. see you again soon Tribal hills.
- Luke (10/5): Incredible view, friendly staff and plenty to do. - We checked in to our room and had a bit of a leakage issue in the bathroom. The owner came down and identified the problem, upgraded us for our stay. Friendly bloke. Friendly staff all around. Free lifts to town, the pier and aninuan beach. Will stay again in the future. Thanks guys, Luke & Nicola
- R&R (10/5): A million dollar view! - Hotel is away from the busy area, not too far from the beach and there is a very good transport service to go to the beach (I don't think you would want to stay at the beach area). They have the best spot and overviewing the whole area as it's up top a mountain. Definitely a wow effect as soon as you come out of your very own balcony! if you are looking for a total relaxation this is definitely the hotel for you!
- Peter (8/5): Nice hotel with a view - You really feel like you are in your own paradise with fantastic views of both land and sea. The rooms are spacious-I recommend the deluxe room as they have great balconies. The resort offers free transport to the local beaches and I also recommend the waterfall hike.
- gilbert (8/5): nice resort with nice view - very nice experience, nice quit location on a hill, nice view, a bit far from the beaches, but the resort provide us a ride each time we decided to go to white beach or others location , the food is good, we rent 2 motorbikes for the day at around 750 pesos each, that include the gas tank fill-up.
- Jennifer (4/5): Away from the beach - The hotel is way uphill, you only have to rely to the hotel shuttle all the time. They do free shuttle from 6am to 10pm, you can call them after 10pm but they charge 500 pesos for a very short ride. They'll provide you a wireless hotspot which didn't work during our stay, no phone to call the front desk, you have to use minutes from your phone. No free breakfast, they provide instant coffee, not brewed unless you ask for one which is 100 per cup. Housekeeping is upon request. Will never use this hotel again nor recommend it to friends.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Recommended for families - Wonderful place, great for families. They offer free local shuttle services since the hotel is up a short very steep hill... the restaurant has a fantastic sea view, with food and service ok. Archery not to well in shape but the Billard table is great,
- Del (8/5): Beautiful Mountain View - Check-in easiest of any hotel I have ever stayed at. Food was only fair, with a limited menu and so so service. Shuttle service was very good but did not run late, past 10pm. So if you went to town for dinner and drinks you had to watch the time closely. Nowhere at the resort to buy snacks such as chips and munchies for the room.
- Andreas (10/5): Great resort with beautiful views - Spent 3 nights with my wife and 3 of her family members at this great mountain resort. We'd rented the penthouse, and it was excellent. Modern, comfy and with all amenities. It occupies a full floor, 110 sqm, and has a huge balcony with mountain views. At about €100 per night for 5 people, I also think it's cheap considering the luxury of the suite!
The only down-side was very spotty and slow internet, but this is an issue more endemic to the Philippines as a whole. Internet is just not up to western standards, and considering you're in the mountains...well.
The restaurant on-site is not the best, but serves standard Filipino fare cheaply. About €4-8 for a main course. Only evening we ate there, we spent around €34 for 5 people. The staff was friendly and helpful.
The best parts of the stay were the good swimming pool/bar area, and the 2 tours arranged by the hotel that we did. Sea tour and land tour. Almost a full day with private drivers/boats with great experiences. About €100 per tour for 5 people (negotiate price!).
Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay at Tribal Hills, and would certainly go there again if vacationing around the White Beach area in Puerto Galera.
- Joey (10/5): Great local Philippines getaway! - This was our second time at Tribal Hills and we (again) really enjoyed it! The food had improved since last time, the rooms were comfortable, and we even got to take a free tour to the falls. If we return to Puerto Galera, we will definitely try to stay here. Great place!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful Views of Mountains and Sea - We stayed at this hotel for two nights with a group of friends. It's in a beautiful location, high on a hill with beautiful views all around. The hotel is in a quiet relaxing location, but there is quite a bit to do just within a short walk. For longer distances, they are happy to shuttle you around.
- GB (10/5): Awesome hotel in the mountain - We enjoyed our stay in this hotel literally on a hill. Great hospitable owner and staff. The views from the rooms were stunning. There is a free shuttle that brings you to and from white beach and the other beaches as well. Will definitely consider staying here again when we return to Puerto Galera.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Mountain location is beautiful. Rooms are somewhat dated (CRT television), but functional.
- chaim (10/5): Clean and Relaxing atmosphere - We enjoyed the 3 nights we stayed at Tribal Hills. We had a room with a wonderful view of the mountains. As far as I'm concerned this is the nicest getaway for the entire area. Access to White Beach for activities was very convenient as we were provided with 2 numbers of the drivers who would be able to transport us when we wanted to go and come back.
I would definitely stay here again if I come back to the area !
- Nicholas (10/5): Great time - Everyone and everything about this hotel were great. Very laid back and relaxing environment.
- from NY (10/5): Heaven on earth - This place is truly amazing. Excellent location, magnificent views, very friendly staff and great food all at a very affordable price!
- Jeremy (10/5): May 2016 - Fantastic get away place to stay really enjoyed and would book again .. Hotel is on what feels like a mountain side but it's unique and staff are happy to drive thou anywhere . Try the Free Waterfalls walk from the hotel but cover up and wear trainers or sensible footwear.. I went off in rubber flip flops totally unsuitable. And when I requested first aid back at the hotel there was no support or band aid available. If like me European then cover up with sun screen ..
White Beach is an amazing place .. My second visit , very easy access from Manila and probably better than Borocay plus closer
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good value for money - Stayed for a few nights with family. Hotel restaurant was surprisingly good for breakfast and dinner. Nice relaxing escape with nice situation and scenery.
Service could have been better but I suspect this was a result of the owners being away. Rooms were tidy enough but not cleaned daily as standard.
Very good shuttle service to local beach and White Beach. Personally, I thought White Beach was quite a tragic and depressing place so I was glad that Teibal Hills was sufficiently far away that I didn't have to go there more than twice.
Take some mosquito repellant for your balcony at night.
Overall, it's good value for money and a nice place to have a relax with your family up in the hills.
- Chris (10/5): A world of our own - Initial reticence about being a little way from the beach evaporated as soon as we entered our wonderful penthouse room. We felt in a world of our own, with the most magnificent tropical forest view in one direction and azure waters in the other. We were not completely removed from the sound of the village below but upon our return home we actually missed the daily wake-up call from the roosters!
The staff were so humble and welcoming, as well as being disciplined in their daily tasks. The owners Maying and Owen were delightfully engaging and generous with their local knowledge.
The ready availability of transport down to the beach, town or port (upon departure) was fantastic.
- Ty (10/5): Great Shuttle - Little ways away from the beach but has a great shuttle and driver who will help driving you to any beach and can assist setting up and tours or activities.
- marco (8/5): A jewel hidden on a hill. - Fantastic place. Pleasant staff. Far away from beaches but a shuttle takes you there when you desire.
- Si (10/5): Tribal mountain resort. Oh YEAH - Perfect to relax and enjoy the awesome views from the hills. Top facilities excellent staff and service and a few mins from 3 beaches. Ask Remy for island tours and enjoy a cold beer whilst fishing. Very affordable getaway
- Verified traveler (10/5): Awesome experience - Though the place is far from the beach hotel , the hotel staff provides a pick up and drop off at the beach ! They have atv that u can rent ; also the staff are very friendly And worth a stay !! Definitely come back :)
- Ye Jin (8/5): Outstanding service, great view, smelly room. - Free shuttles to and from hotel to White Beach and more. Don't pay for a cab from the ferry port and call the hotel. The employees went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable, and went to extreme lengths to make sure I got to the ferry on time and even argued with ticket office for my ticket refund.
The room is dark, faint odour, uncomfortable, but big. I would have left a horrible review if it weren't for the amazing views (hotel is literally on a hill) and the amazing people that made my trip. Puerto Galera in general is such a beautiful place with great activities.
- yuksel (10/5): Feel totally relax - Lovely plaice staff so friendly my second time I enjoy last time as well
- Verified traveler (10/5): Awesome. - Awesome view. Free tour to waterfalls. Free shuttle to beaches. Excellent food and friendly staff. Room deluxe n clean. Archery was so much fun. Thumbs up!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful location, wonderful views - Beautiful place, looking out over the sea from the restaurant and the mountains from the rooms. Crazy exotic gardens with all kind so of flowers, trees and plants.
Rooms large and comfortable, staff helpful and friendly, went trekking to the falls but ran out of time for snorkeling at coral gardens and a session on the archery range.
Good sized portions and freshly prepared food in the restaurant. Good coffee too!
I will be back again!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Excellent resort but far from White Beach - We got to White Beach in a heavy rainy day. It's quite far from the White Beach port to the White Beach. The street is very terrible and small. Two cars can't go oppositely. Tribal Hill provides a free shuttle to take customers to the beach and back. But, we should contact them first. So, most of the time, we move by tricycle. It's very important that you should always bargain with the tricycle or taxi drivers, there. The beach sight is interesting in daytime, but in nighttime, there is nothing. Just stay in the resort.
- Ryan (8/5): Nice hotel. Far from the beach - This was a great hotel, but it was very far from the beach. The shuttle service was very accommodating to help us down to white beach. Their tour guide and restaurant were higher priced than we could find in town, but the views were excellent from the top of the mountain.
