Guest Reviews

- Samson (8/5): -
- Peter (7/5): Nice place - but avoid the breaksfast place. - The host, Isa, was so helpful and assistant with planning our days in Monteverde. The people at the breakfast place, Café Cappuchino, had a really bad attitude and were acting very unfriendly towards us. So much that we went to another place for breakfast. A very unpleasant experience.
- Andreas (10/5): Saubere Zimmer, gute Lage, nettes Personal - Die Zimmer waren sauber. Das Frühstück war sehr gut. Das Personal war sehr nett. Nichts
- Aspen (10/5): -
- Alejandra (9/5): - Todo perfecto, lo recomiendo
- Anita Seiw (10/5): -
- Guest (10/5): - Nice place to stay, simply furnished B&B with comfortable beds. There was a good breakfast which is in the next door café (with great views over the valley).
Friendly and helpful owners – they booked us an early morning taxi to the reserve.
- Johannes Dominicus Bernardus (6/5): - De ligging en de gastvrouw Slechte douch en bed(matras)
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kenneth (9/5): A very enjoyable stay! - The owners were friendly and exceptionally helpful, especially with our transfer from the airport.
Breakfast was very generous and delicious.
Location is a close walk to downtown.
- Heather (10/5): Exceptional - Isa was an amazing host, helpful, friendly and very attentive. The breakfast was amazing, and the space was very clean.
- Jane (6/5): First time visit - The owners were exceptionally nice and very accommodating. Even offered us a taxi service that saved us some money. There were a few restaurants within walking distance that were very good. The room was bare bones but very clean. The beds were comfortable. There was a fan in the room that helped. The breakfast was very good and filling. Plenty of food. We were in an inner room with a window to the enclosed hallway, thus there was no air flow, thus our room had a mildew smell. It also would have been nice to have someplace to sit outside.
- Rubin (7/5): Great value. - The homemade breakfast was great.
- Munk (7/5): Good - The hosts were very friendly and helpful.
- Andy (10/5): Great and cozy hotel at Monteverde. - The place is very cozy. The host (Isa and her husband) are very nice and helpful by providing tour information and reserve for you at no extra charge. The breakfast option is simple, toast with fried egg or pancake with syrup. Both options served with fruits, coffee and orang juice. The shower is warm and can be a little hotter. I like hot shower after a long day of ziplinings. The building is at the top of the hill. The parking is a little tricky but the building can park 4 cars.
- Jemma (8/5): Charming place, lovely hosts - Really lovely hosts who were very welcoming, made a nice breakfast (homemade pancakes and fruit), helpful with booking transfers. Discovered a nice cafe very near (cafe capucchino) which had a fab view. Shower was quite dated and sometimes struggled to get hot water. Didn't really have an area to chill in the light. Nowhere really to dry washing.
- Aisha (10/5): Very Clean & Lovely Hotel with great owners - The owners! They are truly what all the reviews say they are, very sweet, very easy to talk to you, very warm and truly the nicest. I booked the wrong days and I’m truly grateful for them still being accommodate me last minute, its my first time solo travelling so it wouldve been a nightmare— and she also helped book/manage all my activities and tell me everything I needed to know about Monteverde down to calling me a taxi or if the couple was just checking in on me during the day, lovely stay couldnt recommend it more NA
- Christine (6/5): Hosts were lovely and the rooms adequate. - The hosts were very accommodating and helpful. The two options for breakfast were freshly cooked to order and plentiful. No hot water tap in the bathrooms. Shower was unreliable and often cold. The property is at the top of a steep hill and therefore the wind noise in the rooms was not conducive to sleep. No option to make hot drinks in the rooms.
- Andra (10/5): A great place to stay in Monteverde. - The property was well located with parking. It was clean and comfortable as well as affordable. The hosts are very helpful and friendly. Breakfast is very tasty. It is a great place to stay. Nothing
- Joseph (9/5): Superb -
- Karolina (10/5): Super happy with the stay and would recommend this place to everyone - Very lovely hotel in a convenient location. The hotel was very helpful with helping to organize our tours and transfer to another town. The part that I liked the most was a lovely breakfast in the nearby cafe included in the price (they served the best pancakes) and had a super nice view.
- Heather (9/5): Very thoughtful and kind staff - We were a party of 3 and liked that we had two rooms instead of one - it was unexpected! Also the facilities were lovely, we liked the big windows. I wish there were more places to hang wet clothing - it was very rainy :). Also higher water pressure would have been nice.
- Nooker (9/5): Relaxing stay - great value. - Friendly and helpful staff. Good location. Clean. Comfortable. Do have parking but not great situation - small space needing rotating of vehicles depending on when you plan to leave - on slope. Directions to the hotel could be improved.
- Lionel (9/5): Simple and practical hotel with very kind staff - Very convenient for gravitating around Monteverde and making various visits to the region, even if the hotel is a little isolated. I really appreciated the kindness and helpfulness of the staff. The welcome is truly wonderful. The room is a little basic and the hotel is a little out of the way, but it's perfectly acceptable. The center is not that far away and we can reach it by taking a 20 minutes walk.
- Alex (8/5): We always stay here every time we visit Monteverde. It's always clean, and a good value. - Clean, well-maintained small hotel, owned by a friendly and accommodating family. Spartan breakfast offerings. Pastries would be a nice inclusion.
Breakfast could open earlier, or at least coffee shoud be made available until it does.
- Laurence (8/5): Lovely hotel good location. - Two choices for breakfast, good standard and excellent tea choice.
Amazon fire sticks in new tvs in the rooms.
Hosts were really friendly and helpful on what to do and helped organise taxis.
Good location. Little out of the centre but easy to walk.
- Camila (10/5): Fantastic B&B! - Fantastic place! I can't recommend it enough
Is a family ran B&B and they were so so nice, friendly, kind and helpful!!!
The room was very big, the toilet was big as well.
Everything was clean
Is a beautiful place and is walking distance to some cafes and restaurants
- Krystal (7/5): Good -
- Carly (10/5): Lovely family run b and b. - The hosts were amazing they couldn’t have helped us more, they booked tours for us and even gave us drs details when I wasn’t well. They were so friendly and it felt likely a really warm family stay. We ended up having two rooms which I’m sure was a bonus as. We had so much more space to relax. Breakfast was perfect. Location was great just on edge of Santa Elena great walk into the town. Nothing. It’s been our favourite stay of our trip
- Susan (10/5): Great customer service! - Owners are so nice and helpful in booking activities/transportation. Complimentary breakfast is good, too. Rooms are hot during the day but cool off at night if you leave your window open. Window opens to a walkway, not directly outside, so make sure the window in the walkway is also open. Fan in the room helps.
Pillows are a bit too thick for my liking, but bed is pretty comfortable (on the firm side).
- Barbara (10/5): Exceptional - It is a lovely hotel in a great location. They were wonderful about helping us arrange tours and transportation. We will definitely stay there again!
- Shiyan (10/5): Exceptional - The breakfast was good. It is about 15 min walking to downtown. There are two restaurants near the hotel. We enjoyed the Indian food. The hotel owner was very nice and helped us to book activities. no
- Mary (10/5): Exceptional - Great location and breakfast
Staff were friendly and helpful
- Llywelyn (9/5): Superb -
- Rory (10/5): Exceptionally friendly and very convenient being just a short distance from the centre of town. - A really friendly atmosphere - Isaura is exceptionally welcoming and helpful. She can also give good advice on local attractions and help to arrnage visits. A lovely room and very tasty breakfast.
- Olivia (8/5): Very good -
- Keith (10/5): Great little place with lovely hosts - Lovely little hotel in Santa Elena. Great, friendly hosts who offered advice on where to go and what to see. Also offered shuttle arrangements for us to visit some of the cloud forests. Great breakfast! Walking distance to downtown Santa Elena and restaurants, walk back is a bit steep though 😀
- Jaana (9/5): So clean, great location, and the hosts were super nice! - So clean, great location, and the hosts were super nice!
- Hediye (7/5): Good - Very nice people but noisy neighborhood, dos barking, motorcycles
- Dirk (10/5): Exceptional - Super helpful staff arranging transportation and activities. Went way out of their way. Excellent bfast.
- Janna (8/5): Very good - Staff/owners were incredibly nice and helpful. They organized a night walk and a shuttle to Santa Elena Cloud Forest for us and both were good value and on time. Eggs were very tasty! It's not far to town but down a big hill. The design of the hotel limits the fresh air inside but otherwise things were all good.
- Tom (10/5): Felt like was part of the family -
- Tim (10/5): Had a great two night stay with wonderful hosts. - Good location, excellent hosts, nice breakfast.
- Eliška (9/5): Superb - Staff on the front desk was super nice! She helped us arrange tours and transfer to next destination and she was super friendly :) Hotel is in good place close to the city centre. Fine breakfest was included, we could pick between pancakes and scrambled eggs.
- Ingibjorg (8/5): Great stay with some wonderful and helpful hosts - We had a wonderful stay at Santa Fe. The room was small but comfortable and very quiet so we slept well. Isaura and her husband were wonderful hosts and extremely helpful in helping us plan activities. It was a real bonus to be able to park the car securily. Breakfast was really tasty and we felt very well looked after. We would definitely stay again.
- Brownfield (10/5): Home hospitality! - Loved the hospitality, Isaura and her husband Cristian made us feel as if we were with family. They went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable. They gave us excellent recommendations to restaurants and excursions and helped book for us. They were accommodating and on call with every need we asked within minutes. My son and cousin kept asking them for things and they were receptive to their requests:) the great complimentary breakfast was homemade and personally served by them. Thank you so much Isaura and Cristian for being excellent hosts and for making sure our 89 year old granny was well taken care of! N/A
- Alexander (10/5): Nice hotel - Simple but very nice hotel. Everything you need in Santa Elena. The room is clean and breakfast taste good. The owners are very helpful if you need anything in your room or planning your trips or transportation to others parts in the country. Highly recommend this hotel.
- Namaba (9/5): Superb -
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (4/5): Disappointing - The toilet blew up
- Haritha (9/5): Superb - Very attentive, welcoming staff. Clean and well maintained. Good location - close to viewpoint for sunset, close to centre.
- James (9/5): Nice little hotel in Monteverde - A great to stay. Isaura is a gracious host. Couldn’t do enough for you to mje sure your stay was comfortable. Walking distance to town and other restaurants. Local attractions will do a pickup at the hotel. Included breakfast was very good. I would stay here again and would highly recommend. Parking can be a bit of a challenge but everyone works it out.
- Saiwarren (10/5): Great value accommodation - Great location, friendly staff, room was large and very clean. Bathroom met expectations. Room price was very reasonable. No decent vegan options for breakfast (just toast and jam), although this is not an isolated problem.
- Lene (10/5): Lovely place in Monteverde - Lovely hotel, nice room, delicious breakfast and great location in Monteverde. The most welcoming host, Isaura goes an extra mile to make you feel welcome and help you. She helped me with tours and was readily available.
- Zoe (8/5): Santa fe - Nice room friendly staff Big hill into town
- Jaya (9/5): Superb -
- Ina (10/5): Exceptional - Great stay, very friendly staff and delicious breakfast included, very recommendable!
- Joss (7/5): Good -
- Anne (9/5): Great place to stay along the CR tour! - It was great value for the $, hosts attentive and helpful.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bas (9/5): Would recommend, pleasant stay with very friendly people - The staff was very sweet, helpful and friendly, really left us with a very positive impression of Hotel Santa Fe. Room is spacious and comfortable. Location was very good for visiting Monteverde cloud forest (for both night and/or day tours). Breakfast was nice and you could choose out of 3 options. We had a very pleasant stay and would definitely recommend. We had some trouble figuring out the shower, but after checking with the staff it was actually quite easy and the shower was very pleasant and warm. There’s a switch on the shower head to arrange the temperature that has to be on the right switch for warm water. Was easily checked and no discomfort because of it. Also didn’t really like the coffee, can be a taste thing.
- Zak (9/5): Superb -
- Sven (10/5): Exceptional - The couple who own the hotel were really nice and helpful.
The room we got was clean, spacious, well furnished and generally good value for the money we paid.
The hotel is about 5 min from where the shops and restaurants are in town, though it is a bit of a climb back.
There is a nice restaurant right next to the hotel.
- Marie (8/5): Good location ver helpfull staff - staff very helpful and went beyond what was expected
booked trips and transfer at the normal price very trustworthy lots of hills to down town if you had be knee problems
- Anca (10/5): Isaura, the landlady, is a delight. She ordered food for me one stormy evening when I wanted to stay in. She made me eg - It is very quiet, very clean, and everything well-kept. One bathroom was assigned to 2 rooms, but because the other room was empty, there was no issue whatsoever.
- Kevin (9/5): Superb - The host was very friendly. She helped me book the tour and mailed my lost chargers in the room.
- Joanna (9/5): Superb -
- Tonia (10/5): I will stay at Santa Fe BandB again - Isuera, Issy, and her husband were the best part of the stay! They were so helpful and went above and beyond to make sure your stay is an enjoyable one. She booked all my tours and transportation for me. The breakfast was delicious and the bed was comfortable. I loved the sunny areas outside the rooms.
- Lech (10/5): Exceptional -
- Minnie (9/5): Superb -
- Patrick (7/5): Good for a one night stay - Very friendly staff, breakfast was very good. Room was smaller than anticipated, but good for a one night stay. In the description, not stated as a shared bathroom (that would have been nice to know). Parking is on a steep incline and limited... wasn't really thrilled about that. The location wasn't too far out of town, but more than walking distance.
- Lewis (6/5): Friendly owners and good breakfast! - Friendly owners and a good breakfast included in our booking!
Also the owners gave good local restaurant advice.. including our favourite Cafe Cappuchino! No outside communal areas to relax or enjoy the view, which is ok in some places but the town has lots of hills and steep roads so would beneficial instead of having to buy a coffee in a cafe any time you wanted to be outside.
The room was also not cleaned at any point during our 4 night stay, and we were only offered new towels once.
Also note, there are also lots of loud barking dogs in the area so light sleepers may struggle, but there are dogs everywhere in Costa Rica.
- Lynn (8/5): Very good -
- David (7/5): Good - No coffee maker
- Ruth (9/5): Superb - The staff were very helpful and friendly. Wish we had an air conditioner
- Pascal (10/5): Lovely host in charming mountain lodge - The hosts were very friendly and helpful with tours and arranging shuttles. The breakfast was delicious with pancakes and scrambled eggs, the room was clean with a nice bed not to hot with nice view on the mountains. -
- Shannon (7/5): Good - Cute B&B that was close to town. Breakfast was nice and included two different options. The owner was flexible with us checking in early and leaving a little late, which was very much appreciated. I wish there would have been something to put my luggage on. I don't like storing it on the floor. We had ants in our bed. The walls are thin so we could hear our neighbors chatting as we were trying to sleep.
- Sandra (10/5): Exceptional - The hotel is comfortable. The statt is extremely nice and helps a lot to organize different tours.
My expectations were exceeded! I can totally recommend this hotel! -
- Bohdan (10/5): Very cozy and comfortable - Very friendly host, she helped with tour booking and transfer. Very good location, 5 min walk from huge market, and even less to nice places for dinner. breakfast was also nice. highly recommend!
- Linda (9/5): very nice and comfortable family owned and operated, were very friendly , would go back for surei - staff were great breafast was very good
- Bruce (9/5): very nice B & B Hosts were wonderful and very helpful. very clean. nice breakfast! - clean room
friendly and helpful hosts climbing the hill
- Ramesh (9/5): Superb -
- Bryan (9/5): Christian and Isa are a delightful couple - very welcoming- and work with you to make time in Monteverde and with them e - walking distance to most things in Monteverde - safe and secure off the main road and distanced from pedestrian and vehicular traffic- private bath and shower - comfortable bed - clean and neat room -fully cooked to order breakfast every morning with fresh fruit, juice and cafe and mostly: wonderful couple as hosts! limited parking in incline so need your parking break to hold well
- Ellie (10/5): Exceptional - Super friendly hosts with great facilities. Everyone was really helpful in telling us about the location and helping us to organise tours.
Breakfast was super yummy too!
- Reynald (10/5): Excellent stay. Owners are very friendly and accommodating. - The morning breakfast was a nice start to our day. Eggs, toast, coffee and fresh fruit.
The owners were very nice and pleasant, easy to talk to and they gave us a Spanish lesson as well.😊 we would definitely recommend this to anyone travelling to Monte Verde.
- Diane (9/5): Delightful. Easy to check in, out and park. - Hosts were very professional &fantastic, interested in us and our trip to Costa Rica. Very accommodating with Abuella. Beautiful view of the mountains, great sitting area outside of the room. Breakfast was ample and delicious. Close to restaurants. Easy to walk tho there's a fair bit of up and down hills. I would book it again. We were privy to hotel and neighborhood noises. Quiet later at night, did not interfere with sleep.
- Charly (6/5): SATISFACTORY - LOCATION AND OWNERS VERY BASIC BREAKFAST /NO TOWELS CHANGING NOR ROOM CLEANING.
- Michael (10/5): Super host and great location - Room was very clean and comfortable. The host was very helpful setting up activities and advice. Breakfast was fantastic with the best scrambled eggs. Very close to downtown. Great cafe right next door.
- Maureen (9/5): Superb - The personal attention was wonderful. We felt safe and looked after. We were able to easily book tours there. The breakfasts were great. It is a hike up the hill and difficult to find. It could do with a sign on the road.
- Simone (9/5): Superb - the host saved our trip by organization a last minute shuttle for us
- Sergejus (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing very helpful owners who helped to book tours and transportation, advised what places to visit in the area. Clean room with comfortable bed, good location on the hill away from busy downtown but still close to the shop and with places to eat. Good and tasty breakfast.
- Karen (9/5): Superb -
- Cédric (9/5): Superb -
- Wendy (7/5): It was a very pleasant and comfortable stay. - The owners were very friendly and helpful, booking tours and taxis for us. The breakfasts were very good - we appreciated the fresh fruit bowls. We liked the location between old Monteverde and Santa Elena, so we could walk to each town but it did involve walking up and down steep hills. The beds were very comfortable. There is no place to hang clothes on hangers. It would be nice to have a rod installed in the room to be able to hang up some clothes other than on hooks.
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mccoval (5/5): Well.. Monteverde is overrated. There are better parks in Costa Rica, like Manuel Antonio. - Good breakfast No hot water. No fridge.
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional - The owners are wonderful. The breakfast was delicious, and I had a great night's sleep.
its very central to everything you need.
They even helped me with my last minute transportation or I would have been stranded. I would definitely recommend. Amazing value.
- Diane (9/5): Beautiful-quiet stay. well managed. - The hotel has been modernized. the bathroom was like brand new!! the little dining area for breakfast was quaint and bright. nothing
- Sheila (10/5): excellent value for an overnight stay in Monteverde and the owners and warm, Friendly and helpful. We would stay again. - Hotel Santa Fe is an excellent property close to town. It is a value hotel but far exceeds value.
The owners are helpful and the breakfast delicious.
