Guest Reviews
- Georgina (10/5): Great stay! Book it! - Great location, excellent value, friendly staff, warm communal areas and warm bedrooms. We stayed in a family room which was great! Comfy bunk beds. Communal areas were useful, spacious and well organised and the games room in the basement a bonus. Plenty of loos and hot powerful showers.
- Rachel (8/5): Excellent, a real pleasure - It's the first time I'd ever stayed at a YHA even though I'm 73! I went on the recommendation of a friend and it totally lived up to my expectations and more. The large white fluffy towel was a total surprise - the icing on the cake! I would definitely consider staying at a YHA in future when on a hiking trip. Many thanks It's not a big thing, but ideally I would have liked a choice of cooked eggs in the morning, perhaps boiled eggs too, given I don't like fried eggs.
- Anthony (10/5): The staff was very kind polite and friendly - We liked the location the view from the meeting room was spectacular Absolutely nothing we didn’t like
- peter (10/5): The staff were super helpful and friendly. The breakfast was delicious too! -

- Johnson (10/5): - Good staff, fair price, decent all round Nothing
- Emma (9/5): Great - Perfect location, clean and friendly. The kitchen got very crowded.

- Elettra (8/5): - Molto comoda, centrale, accogliente con tutte le necessità come lavanderia comune, cucina self service ma anche colazioni e cene Materassi scomodi
- Trish (9/5): it was excellent - Breakfast was amazing, and the location awesome
- Ana (10/5): Really comfortable place, amazing staff, lovely property, and lots more positive etceteras! - The location is great. Although it is in a very specific part of the Lake District, the bus station is a few steps away from the hostel. I was there during an awful snow and managed to get there with little issues. I had the room to myself, but everyone I saw around the hostel was very nice and considerate.
Breakfast was good, I only got the continental but seemed like more than enough (they had bread, cereals, porridge, and drinks). Staff was incredibly nice
It was my first time coming to the Lake District, and staying at a hostel, and I would definitely do it again based on this experience.
Thanks for everything!
- Nicky (9/5): Budget friendly , convenient for a family - Great location Nothing
- Paul (9/5): - Great location with well kept, clean facilities. The staff were lovely including the chef in the morning who was very pleasant and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay and have since looked at other locations to visit. The bed was a tad uncomfortable, it was well used and so it was worn creating a sort of divet where you lay.
- Hamza (9/5): -
- aditya (7/5): -
- Karen (9/5): Fab location, nice staff, spotless rooms and bathrooms. - Location Room was too hot
- Lukas (9/5): - Zapadlé místo, které ale bylo v dochodové vzdálenosti od podniků ve městě. Obsluha velice příjemná a snídaně vynikající. Recepce není celodenní, tudíž je potřeba si naplánovat cestu s dostatečným předstihem.
- Debra (8/5): Best budget choice for a central Lakes location. - Lovely grand old place with spacious rooms and lovely catering facilities. Games/TV room was so large and comfortable. I never sleep great on YHA mattresses, but it’s such good value for money.
- john (10/5): - Had a private room for 4
Enjoyed breakfast All good
- stephen (10/5): Fabulous can’t wait to go again - Location ambience warmth facilities comfortable and great value for money The staff were super friendly too . Great breakfast too x The booking on is a little late ( 5pm ) fine in summer but dark in winter

- Kate (8/5): Good value, clean, comfortable and welcoming. - Beautiful house, huge bedroom, clean bed linen, good self catering kitchen and dining space. The basement where the dry gin room is smelt so badly of damp.
- Dominique (8/5): -
- 虎牢关 (7/5): so-so - the location the WiFi, no WiFi in the room
- sean (9/5): Warm, friendly , enjoyable place in a brilliant location. Great Value overall. - As with all YHA's - friendly staff; you bump into interesting folks; simple, yet good food; no fuss; great location; wonderful reading rooms and common areas; nice bar Mattresses could have been less springy / bouncy.
- Chin Yoki (8/5): - Clean and comfortable. Very decently priced and central. friendly staff.
- KING Kelum (10/5): -
- Yvan (8/5): Amazing location and great value for money. - Amazing location, great facilities inside the hostel such as a well-equipped kitchen and large dining area. Also nice comfortable lounges and interesting grounds for the kids.

- Hakan (8/5): -
- Muhammad (9/5): Superb -
- Relax (4/5): Disappointing - Lovely big building with lots of character, peaceful surroundings It's self catering option, we could use the ovens and kitchen, eat our own food but couldn't drink our own alcohol. This was because they sell alcohol so we could drink our own. They sell food but we could cook our own so why can't I drink my own beer ? We were having a night on a budget but at £6 for a bottle of cider it was abit of a stab and didn't think that was fair. Expensive drinks to claw some money back but it's left a sour taste. Especially since we could cook our own food

- Matthew (10/5): Above and beyond - Everything was spot on from arrival - the incredibly welcoming atmosphere, the room, the lovely breakfast (great value) and the staff who went above and beyond to help us. Special thanks to the manager. She helped us jump start our car when the battery went flat! Would recommend this place to everyone.
- Julian (9/5): Superb -
- Batrisyia (9/5): Cozy room, Comfortable beds, Complete facilities, Wholesome staff, Strategic location, Amazing value for money. - I really liked our room, it was really cozy! The beds were so clean and comfortable, my friends and I had great nights’ sleep. The restrooms and showers were also really clean and all functioning properly. We really loved how there were common areas and game rooms, and even a small kitchen for guests to cook their own food in! We put that kitchen to good use. The staff were all very friendly and helpful as well, they made us feel very welcome. The location is very strategic, being very close to the town shops, and also being the same footpath up to Easedale Tarn. Overall, I think considering everything, this is definitely a great value for money, and it was worth every penny! I would come stay again, no doubt. I think because the Hostel is located on a slightly hilly area with very little night lights along the way, it made it slightly uncanny to walk up to the Hostel when it got dark. But other than that, everything was tip top.
- Brian (2/5): Not great - Standing outside in the middle of the night after fire alarm went off
- Caroline (8/5): Very good - Not keen on the lodge very noisy
- Navdeep (10/5): Exceptional -
- Caroline (10/5): Exceptional - The staff are so helpful and friendly. Nothing
- David (9/5): Superb - Friendly staff. Very welcoming, hard working. Superb breakfast. Other residents behaving badly. Not the fault of the hostel and swiftly dealt with.
- Bogdana (10/5): Really nice place for hikers - Really clean rooms and good food service, great location in Grasmere and great value for money!
Overall very comfortable stay.
- Matthew (9/5): Great value, great location. - The staff were friendly. The location is great.. 5 minutes walk from the bus stop. Umpteen walks straight from the hostel door. Breakfast was good value as were the rooms. Toilets and showers were clean. It’s a bit old and creaky but that’s to be expected.. it’s an old building.
- Shetty (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fortesa (8/5): Very good -
- Andrew (10/5): Good YHA Hostel - The hostel is very centrally located in Grasmere and provides basic but clean accommodation. The room was small but warm and ample, whilst showers and kitchen facilities were all good. There are numerous lounge areas whilst staff were all very friendly.
Car parking was provided free of charge. There was nothing bad really. Everything was fine.
- Barrett (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gergely (8/5): Great choice - Its much more what we expect for this cheap cost. Everything prompt and excellent. Staff friendly, facilities friendly. Windows singke glazing and heating just get on later, room temperature nice at night but ou r clothes hard to dry
- Drew (9/5): Beautiful old house in Grasmere - Central location to Grasmere & private parking. Beautiful old building.
- Jennifer (7/5): Cheerful staff and cheap accommodation- perfect! - The staffwere very friendly and helpful, checking in was easy. The shower was powerful and hot. The beds were comfy and the room had a little basin and mirror. We had a private room with two bunk beds for £25, which was a bargain! There isn't enough parking, so you have to leave your car down in the village. Our room was next to the toilet with a fan going all night and doors banging.
- Bennett (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kathleen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kifah (8/5): Very good -
- Ian (7/5): Lovely location, great accommodation for the price. - Great location, nice and clean, friendly staff Flashing sensor on the ceiling of the bedroom was very bright, lit up the room every few seconds.
- Peta (10/5): Perfect - Lovely yha perfect setting, easy to access on public transport friendly staff
- Margaret (6/5): The bedroom was more basic than I expected but overall it was good value for money - The duvets were really warm.
The staff were obliging and cheerful
The lounge was comfortable I was not expecting bunk beds. They were uncomfortable and too short even for me at 5 feet tall.
The floor by the basin was sticky.
The menu only had one vegetarian dish available.
- Lee (8/5): Very good -
- Scott (8/5): Very good - Location was excellent, lots of great walks right on your doorstep and close to all the pubs and cafés in Grasmere. Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms, bedding, toilets and communal areas all very clean and well kept. , Didn't eat at the hostel but seemed like a good choice of food available. Parking was limited although I was lucky enough to secure a space . Hand dryer in toilet was on the wall just the other side of my bedroom , this did wake me up a couple of times . Could be moved or replaced with paper towels.
- Marzena (10/5): Wonderful and inexpensive place to stay in Grasmere - The cleanliness of the place is remarkable, the kitchen and kitchenette, bathrooms and showers, the reading and dining area and finally the room. Fresh white sheets and comfy mattress. Super friendly staff! There is a free of charge washer and dryer in the drying room in the basement. Amazing! Nothing I can think of.
- Irene (8/5): Great location - Lovely location, friendly staff and comfy beds The WiFi signal was very low and didn't reach our room at all
- Jilly (10/5): Absolutely brilliant stopover with my son. Staff couldn’t do enough to make us welcome and the full English breakfast wa - Centrally located in Grasmere
So clean and well staffed Nothing
- Ekaterina (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful place, wonderful staff, atmosphere, frequency, delicious breakfasts, we liked everything very much, we didn’t want to leave. Very good hostel🤍
