- Pamela (10/5): - Pięknie położony, bardzo nastrojowy, pyszne śniadania i miła obsługa
- John (10/5): - Building and setting Cockerel
- Samuel (9/5): - Beautiful surroundings, friendly and knowledgeable staff Beds weren't the most comfortable, the mattress was quite sunken in the middle
- Farhana (8/5): -
- Mark (8/5): Excellent little hostel - Very local to Grasmere and Elterwater and food was good and wholesome
- Tobias (9/5): Lovely YHA, Great staff - High quality YHA. Unbeatable price. Wonderful location. It's not "what I didn't like", just remember you aren't buying a £150 hotel room! As long as you're up for cheap and (very very very) cheerful, you'll have a great stay.
- Sarah (9/5): Loved meeting other travelers and walking the grounds and nearby trails at this location.Phenomenal! - When I needed a personal item and asked at the desk, one of the staff was quick to provide me with what I needed. I was so grateful for the use of the kitchen so I could refrigerate my food and have access to a microwave and eating utensils. Our door didn't lock very well, but there was a notice up saying it was being worked on. Honestly, not much not to like!
- Thahira (10/5): -
- wioleta kiwak (10/5): - Beautiful scenery close to lake. Derek beautiful star ⭐. Great place for recharge batteries
- Michael (10/5): -
- Valerie (8/5): Parfait! - L’emplacement magique, le personnel adorable, tres bon rapport qualité prix Il manquait juste des petites lampes pour pouvoir lire dans son lit
- Arushi (8/5): -
- Aakash (10/5): - Loved the location and the people. I guess the property is a little old, and would've liked some type c ports but nothing to be mindful about.
- Christopher (10/5): -
- Suzana (8/5): Great place - All good No handle on our room door
- kate (9/5): fantastic youth hostel. - Great place to stay, staff very friendly, great breakfast. Derek is a very cool chicken. Beds were a little bit creaky when you moved.
Evening meals not as good as the fabulous breakfast.
- bhavna (10/5): - I recently stayed at YHA Langdale in the Lake District and had an excellent experience. The service, staff, and cleanliness were all outstanding—everything was perfect with no complaints at all. The location is amazing, with a beautiful large garden and stunning mountain views from the window.
Our room was a bit cold, but when we asked, the staff quickly provided an extra heater. Everyone was friendly and always smiling, and they were very helpful with any request—we never felt turned away.
The price is also very reasonable for such a great experience. I have stayed in YHA hostels in London and Bath as well, and they have always been consistently excellent. Whenever I have the option, I always choose YHA, and I highly recommend it Staff

- Misbah (8/5): - It was very beautiful location
- Ellie Mae (10/5): I loved everything about staying here. It's the perfect place to stay if you enjoy being surrounded by nature and yo - I loved the location. Perfect for accessibility to hikes and strolls. I loved the feel and style of the hostel, I felt very peaceful and relaxed when I was staying here. The only thing I would say is that there's no luggage storage but the environment felt very kind and trustworthy so I wasn't worried about my stuff.
- jade (9/5): - The hostel was really clean and had an amazing drying room so that all my stuff was dry overnight. -

- William (10/5): - Oh my days. It was the first hostel I have stayed in before with my son. And it was an absolutely wonderful and magical experience, and full of the true British spirit with all different ethnicities. The staff are absolutely spectacular and my cup of tea indeed, so friendly you feel so safe and secure with them, and their kindness and willingness to help you enjoy your experience, is above and beyond the line of duty. The food was exceptional and the chef was absolutely amazing, with the best smile I have seen in a long time. The breakfast was equally amazing too in the morning. Highly recommend this magical place to anyone who would like to experience something new.
- Billy (4/5): Not the most relaxing of hostels due to noise. The grounds are beautiful - Location was ideal Cold showers, small kitchen to service the needs of many guests
- Mountainbike1 (10/5): Great Langdale walking weekend - Beautiful old building in an amazing setting. Brilliant, helpful staff, comfy beds and amazing breakfast. Lots of spaces to relax. No where to park. A motorbike was taking up potentionly 2 spaces? Dirty showers, only 1 out of 4 were hot! Cappucino was nearly £4 and was just throffy milk.
- Alice (9/5): Perfect for hiking weekend - Everything you need for a hiking weekend and great value for money: same price as a campsite but we got a private room with private bathroom, great kitchen facilities, also serves food and drinks. Friendly staff too! Noisy going to sleep but i think you’d expect that from a youth hostel, and for £12/pp/night you can’t complain!
- Liam (10/5): Staff were all sound as, breakfast good, it’s a hostel, the beds do the job but everything was clean and sound. Will sta -
- Kempek (4/5): - Localisation of the hostel and communal areas/sitting rooms decor. Cleansless was on a low level, smelly rooms and smell of frying/cooking oil coming through the doors, whitch made all clothes smell like I was cooking for hours.
- Guest (4/5): - Having a drying room outside of the hotel, down some stone steps is pretty inconvenient. My bedding in the stunk of stale BO, and most of the doors in the building could do with a drop of WD40.
- Barbara (9/5): - Es war wunderschön, in diesem alten Herrenhaus sein zu dürfen. Ich bin keine gute Autofahrerin, so ist mir die Fahrt dahin durch die schönen aber so engen Wege schwer gefallen.
- Alexandra (9/5): - Beautiful setting Overflow parking difficult to access with bike trailer
- Guest (10/5): - Great place , staff were amazing
Facilities were superb
- Francis (8/5): Great place in a great location - Amazing location, great layout Some facilities weren’t working
- Chris (8/5): - Great views lovely staff very helpful

- michael (10/5): - Everything! Cheaper than camping! Better location than camping, you'd have to really, really like pitching a tent sorting out all your stuff etc etc etc. We rocked-up and had none of that, booked brekkie and went on our merry way...... Nothing cos miles better than camping!!!
- Sebastian (10/5): -
- ZOEY (7/5): - Great facilities and value. No heating in rooms, had to get portable one from reception.
Was awkward to get there on the route I came up from Elterwater side, the road was flooded, coming the Grasmere route had a better road.
- Javed Zaman (10/5): - Great place for staying in Langdale. Very clean and convenient
- Thalia (10/5): -
- Alejandro (9/5): Definitely worth it - Beautiful location, extremely friendly and helpful staff Our radiator wasn't working and spent 2 nights slightly cold. Double blankets helped, though
- Robertas84 (5/5): - Location excellent Smell in the male dormitory. And no hot water in the evening

- Lewis (10/5): Really good. Overall a brilliant place. Peaceful ambiance. - It was clean and kept well.
Food was sound.
The staff were exceptionally great.
Helped me out as my phone charger died on my 8 peaks challenge and borrowed me one so I could charge my phone and ensure I met my alarm the next morning to set off back home to Sheffield.
- Emily (9/5): Quintessential YHA hostel in stunning Lake District - It’s a YHA hostel and quite cheap so I always temper my expectations but this is one of the nicer ones I’ve stayed in. The location was lovely and quiet and it’s a pleasant view, the women’s bunk room was quite spacious so there was plenty of room for us and our things without stumbling on each other, and the bathroom was remarkably clean. There were also great seating areas inside and out and a decent amount of parking though it did fill up completely so I don’t know if anyone ended up having to park elsewhere. Truly nothing. For a hostel at that price, it was way more than I could’ve hoped for.
- Alex (8/5): -
- Mark (10/5): - Beautiful building and location
- Flora (8/5): - The old building has a lot of character. Great spot in the middle of Lake District. Welcoming staff. Showers were a bit dirty.
- Guest (10/5): - Very nic
- Nicholas (7/5): A remote YHA with much character - Comfortable beds. Clean room. Spacious. Local pubs in Elterwater. -
- Anit (10/5): - I really enjoy the place . If you planning to stay here I recommend this. But there is no near by shop if you came to enjoy the weather you will like it.

- Liz Thomsone (9/5): Friendly staff, great building, peaceful location with view of a hill and lots of trees around it. - The location was good, the building is excellent and really interesting and lots of places to sit in the evening with views or cosier internal room. Good views from the windows in sitting and dining rooms. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Other guests were interesting and chatty. Good kitchen with two fridges and a freezer plus all that you need for self catering. Plus the cooked breakfast set us up for a good days walking on our first day there. Would have preferred dimmer lights in the toilet area for night time. I wore my dark glasses!
- Guest (10/5): -
- John (10/5): - The location is beautiful and your 5 minutes walk from stunning views in every direction Games room was closed
- Theresa (8/5): -
- Charlie (7/5): - Could do with more plug sockets in the rooms, struggled with a large group
- Samina (8/5): Good for exploring the hills - Very spacious in lovely surroundings. Fab facilities Squeaky bed
- Sharon (10/5): - The price at this time of year, excellent, especially for Britain.
The location is remote and quiet.
The hostel was quiet at night, had a great sleep. (A Cockerell will however wake you early!)
Bed and pillow comfortable.
Very clean.
Great facilities and a Hot shower!
Lovely walk down to Elterwater and great base for the surrounding areas.
Beautiful property.
Didn't eat here so can't comment on food / breakfasts Signage! My sat nav took me anywhere but where I was meant to be! I think more signs leading to it as im sure my car is t the only one doing it and my phone lost its serivce. A local man advised after a long time looping!
Only then next day when walking did I find a clear cut route and feel absolutely stupid! But still, more signs! 🤣
- Kai (9/5): - In the most beautiful corner of the Lake District. Wonderful mansion, dedicated staff. That we arrived after dark - too late to appreciate the setting. But seriously, it is a youth hostel, it is not supposed to offer luxuries and you know that when booking a room.
- Lisa (10/5): Peaceful and safe - Extremely professional staff and the facilities were amazing Not applicable
- Matthew (10/5): -
- Max (10/5): Lovely solo weekend escape. - Enjoyed the location, a perfect base to start many hikes. I thought the hostel was clean and well equipped. Stayed in the 12-person dorm, but everyone was quiet and respectful. Although, of course expect lots of snoring and people going to bed at various times (bring a sleep mask and ear buds). Also appreciated that they had spare shower gel as I forgot mine! Would have liked an ironing board
- Guest (10/5): sehr schöner Aufenthalt in der absoluten Stille der nordenglischen Berge. - sehr freundliches Personal, sehr schöne Lage, schöne Wandermöglichkeit direkt von der Jugendherberge. Nichts
- G.J. (9/5): Excellent! - The hostel is situated in a very nice place surrounded by forests far away from traffic roads so it’s an extraordinairy quite place, in the evening you only hear the owls in the forest.. the building is a nice and atmospheric former Victorian hunting lodge with a lot of old architectural elements and lots of space. The staff is very helpful and friendly, the meals were very good, I stayed there for a week and had a pleasant stay, it’s incredible value for money and I would strongly recommend it! Ventilation in the male dorm room could use some improvement
- Beth (7/5): - Great location, good breckfast for additional cost. Great value for money. Showers barely worked. Black out blinds in the rooms would be nice.
Snoring lady in my room, I wish snorers could be in seperate rooms.
- Charlie (9/5): Excellent value stay in the heart of the lake district. - Lovely friendly staff, great facilities including dining options and games, interesting old building, can't fault it for the price- great value. Bedroom was very smelly (dorm room). The windows wouldn't open very far to mitigate this. The shower wasn't hot. Not freezing and quite powerful but not hot either. The tables in the dining area are very sticky (although they do clean them, so not sure why?!).
- Emma (10/5): - Like stepping back in time, beautiful house and surroundings.

- Irina (8/5): Very good -
- Siobhan (10/5): Exceptional -

- Fariborz (5/5): Passable -
- Hugo (10/5): Beautiful - Amazing locations, very nice hostel and friendly staff.
- Rachel (10/5): Clean, welcoming and great location - It felt clean and very welcoming. The location is fantastic for walks from the door and easily into Grasmere. Nothing. All good :)
- Michelle (9/5): Superb -
- Hayley (9/5): Excellent stay, will definitely return. - Peaceful location, loved the veranda that allowed you to sit outside and enjoy the surroundings come rain or shine. Parking was a tricky, the car park was full and nowhere on road to park, hung around until we saw a car leave then drove in!
- Hayley (8/5): Will return, enjoyed our stay - Location, staff, comfort Parking availability, breakfast not warm enough.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional - Safe. Relaxed but friendly atmosphere
- Shalitha (9/5): Superb -
- Tony (10/5): Ideal place to stay. Even for oldies like me - Perfect location 👌 Nothing
- Glennon (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kadimcherla (7/5): Good - The location of the property was so beautiful. The rooms were kept clean. The in-house food was good. A great place to make new friends and memories. The water from the showers were a bit too slow.
- Victoria (8/5): Very good - Amazing YHA location, a stunning house with great grounds surrounding it. Many amenities available at the location, friendly staff and guests. The shower pressure was pretty much non existent
- Liam (7/5): Good - comfortable enough hostel room, showers and toilets were okay, cooking area was pretty good. spotted deer in the paddocks. full of primary school kids doing school projects, part and parcel with booking a you hostel of course.
- Isaac (8/5): Very good - Beautiful Location and a friendly rooster to wake you up in the morning. The rooms were hot in summer
