Guest Reviews
- jomo (8/5): - Arrived earlier than my check in but was allowed in n very helpful staff.
- ellemme229 (4/5): Dark, Cavey, below par front desk staff - This hotel has an eerie atmosphere and 'unique' decorations. It has many rooms in the basement that do not have a window to the outside, and thus no natural light or fresh air. The room I was in had maintenance issues that only added to the "dungeony" vibe of the room. To add to the unpleasantness, after asking the front desk man if I could change my room, he said no because it was late and since they do not change the sheets every day, the potential next guest who would have the misfortune of staying in my room would have to also sleep on my dirty sheets. The breakfast is at best mediocre. The wifi was non-existent in the basement
- Nicholas (2/5): Poor maintenance and so not clean. - I didn’t stay. I left immediately.
- vumiles2016 (10/5): never disappoints - second stay at this hotel over the Easter weekend.....it was a great place....got there hours earlier than they were expecting us. They had our room ready... All the staff at this hotel was super friendly. The bedrooms were comfortable. The breakfast was really nice..especially some homemade sweet bread they had....security was good. I can always recommend this place to anyone making an overnight stop in Maputo
- KateG2733 (8/5): a relaxed place in a central position - After they first tried to give us a room in the basement with no windows or ventilation, we ended upin a room with windows near the pool. he rooms facing the pool looked good, but you could not open the curtains without being seen.
Breakfast was delicious with plenty of fresh fruit, great coffee and fried bacanand eggs.
Minus: No kettle to boil water, no glasses, only the second time did we have afridge in the room. Att the price I would have expected tea and coffe making facilities... but then this isAfrica!!!
- Baasrupert (2/5): Pathetic - Villa das Arábias boutique hotel Maputo
What a letdown. For the price you get no toiletpaper, no towels, a broken shower head, broken tiles in the bathroom, no door handle in the bathroom, aircon that wets the whole floor when switched on, one plug point to charge if you unplug the lamp, clogged shower & basin drain. If you ask, you get a key to your DIRTY room. I would have given it a ZERO star!
Sorry, never again!
- 558jenniferb (8/5): An Island in Maputo - We were a group of 10 Germans on holiday. The personal were friendly. They went out of their way to help. We were given the honeymoon suite which for anyone wanting an over the top version, this is the place.
- MIRRIAM (6/5): Experience - They need to improve on their breakfast.
- Hilda (6/5): Ok ställe - Helt ok men dåligt wi-fi och personalen glömde bort vår förbokade taxi. Frukosten var sådär.
- Nokuthula T (10/5): It was awesome - Perfect
- Verified traveler (2/5): Worst experience ever - Well the breakfast was so bad there’s no buffet you get only one egg like you are a child, the rooms are so dusty when you have blocked nose it’s going to be worse and lastly the WiFi is so bad before going out to meetings you can’t even check your emails
NB : please the owner of that place must up his game that place has potential but it’s like it’s not being taken care of
- KIA (8/5): Unique and Clean - Pleasantly surprised by this Arabias Boutique Hotel. The staff was super friendly and their public areas were beautifully decorated! It was very unique and cozy. The rooms were clean, but we just had a broken and clogged shower. There for only one night so we didn't bother to ask for a fix. Best tip for this hotel: DO your laundry here! Super cheap. We had a small basket of clothes washed and freshly scented for 700mts.
- Collo (4/5): - The Hotel does not provide water in the rooms; some rooms like the I used was very dusty; water is very important and needs to be availed in every room every day.
- Robertapy (2/5): Terrible experience!!! - My room smelled of mold and my daughter's room was so noisy, because of the pool's motor, she couldn't sleep. Every time we returned to the room at the end of the day the air conditioning was on probably to disguise the terrible moldy smell but it did not work and the room was freezing on a winter day. You could barely get to your room because of the narrow space between the pool and the walking area. The breakfast staff was unfriendly and wouldn't even say good morning back to you. Most of the furniture was damaged in some way and the room's distribution was awful, there was very little room even for our suitcases. There was no floor towel in the bathroom and only one toilet paper roll so every time you needed more, you had to go and ask. Also, only one socket in the whole room near a desk.
- BMbale (6/5): Just Average - The hotel is located centrally close enough to the sea as well as town center.
Rooms are clean enough albeit old beddings. Only highlight is the swimming pool with the best rooms located around the pool.
Adequate for business travellers
- stephane (8/5): très bon compromis - l,établissement est assez central mais pas super bien placé
en revanche c,est sympa et acceuillant
le rapport qualité prix est vraiment très bien
le petit dej est plutot pas mal
l'athmosphère est agréable
- DoctorRajesh (6/5): Average Hotel - I stayed in this hotel during my business trip to Maputo. The service given to me was average and rooms are bit small. The food was good and atmosphere as well, bar and restaurant closes very early in the evening . This is average hotel.
- Thandiwe (8/5): South African visiting Moz - It was as good as can be. Breakfast menu needs some variety. Air conditioner was delightful and the pool. Extra detail can be incorporated to bathroom hygiene (more than one toilet roll, cleaning agents, towels etc.)
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Hotel staff are extremely rude and generally do not care about customers needs
- richard (4/5): There are better places for the money in Maputo - to be honest, my stay was disappointing. the breakfast was not good when i was able to eat, the room was ok but the cleaning staff started early (at least for those of us suffering from jet lag) and was very noisy. the location is good and the rooms acceptable. the shower had poor water pressure
- 223winstonp (6/5): Do not be fooled by photos - Room had leaking cistern. Only one towel in the shower. No shower mat.
No side table next to the bed Mattress very hard. Finishings must be redone. Toilet seat broken, could have been fixed on normal hotel room maintenance!
No drinking glass in the bathroom .... the list is unending.
Does deserve the status of a boutique hotel.
- Breakawaysplus (2/5): Bad experience - Totally not happy with this hotel. A lot of defects which are not attended to. Breakfast not adequate and not so fresh. No proper parking and vehicles are parked outside in the streets. Would rate this place 0-1
- Linda (2/5): The bad site of Maputo Villa Arabias - The experience was very bad and we received no assist from yourselves and the hotel when we tried to cancel the accomodation. The rooms were not good and with lots of defects. One of our friend had a shower head failing on her head and I fell with the bath tub.We could not find enough breakfast for all of us and had to pay the rooms in full for earlier checkout and pay penalties. I'm very disappointed. Our overall experience was bad and unpleasant.
- Marguerite (8/5): Unique aesthetic in downtown Maputo - I love the unique decor of Villa das Arabias. The hotel has done a terrific job using great fabrics to highlight the great architectural elements and make a very small space feel luxurious. Air conditioning worked extremely well. The pool is a great amenity on hot Maputo days, and having a drink poolside was a special treat. Breakfast was good and service was fine. There were a few funky things like the shower/tub, which (a) wasn't firmly attached to the floor and (b) had a layout that made it impossible not to get the whole bathroom very wet.
- Lina (6/5): Convenient - It was fine nothing major to report
- drewbdennis (10/5): Great hotel - I stayed here for 5 days, and must say it was an enjoyable stay. The staffs are welcoming, and the food is delicious. Got to taste the local beers of Mozambique. They also offer free internet, just in case you didn't know about it.
This place great for the family and kids wanting to take lovely holiday in Maputo, Mozambique.
- Ed (6/5): Reasonable Stay but Nothing Special - A decent place for a stop in Maputo, but the hotel is not as nice as the pictures and I wouldn't describe it as a boutique hotel. It feels dated and the decor is on the tacky side. The pool was not very inviting. Breakfast was not great, but fairly decent and included a lot of fresh fruit. The room was a good size and we had no major complaints overall.
- aaronma (4/5): Better Options - There are better options for a little more money. The room is very dated and there is a window with a wall a couple feet away. The bathroom does not have a shower. The tub had a sprayer, but no curtain so there was water everywhere inside the bathroom. The breakfast was horrible with very limited options of an egg and some fruit. I would not recommend staying here.
- Gillian2915x2 (2/5): SAD!!! Do not let pictures fool you! - We booked 3 double rooms after viewing the pictures. Our rooms all were dirty, unsafe (with strange steps in awkward areas) and stuffy. Room 1025 had net drapes on the ceiling resulting in dust, small insects etc that continued falling out throughout the night! Spiders could be visually seen trapped in the net.The bath had no plug and taking a shower resulted in water splashing all over the room as there is no protection (shower curtain). The toilet was blocked and we had to request toilet paper in all 3 rooms. Room 1026 had same problems with 1025 although in this room the basin had a huge leak at the bottom. These 2 rooms are near reception/kitchen and noises start from 5.00 with staff reporting for duty. Room 1005 had no bath plug, no loo paper, no A.C, and was equally as disappointing. Television channels are non existent. Breakfast is terrible and unappetising with very little prepared early and works on a 1st come - 1st eat. If you breakfast after 7.30 you will be lucky to get a coffee. We tried to cancel after our bad 1st night they refused although our complaints were valid. They unfortunately had credit card details and our moans meant nothing except, either way, they got their payment! Do Not Waste Your Time or Cash on this place.
- 482duncana (8/5): Quaint, comfortable and conveniently situated - Villa das Arabias has friendly and helpful staff, the breakfasts are good, the rooms are adequate, but not great, and the bathrooms are OK, but it is a bit odd that one has to request new rolls of toilet paper from the front desk after housekeeping has been through the rooms.
That is a small quibble, though, and everyone was utterly helpful and charming from the parking attendant to the manageress, who was a mine of excellent information about what to do in Maputo.
The fact that the rooms surround a rather attractive swimming pool is a unique aspect of the hotel which adds to its charm.
All inall, a pretty good venue, for a boutique hotel.
- mavoko (8/5): Fancy hotel in Maputo - Very nice hotel in the center of Maputo. The room (standard) was a bit small, but clean. The staff was quite friendly and helpful (e.g. Organizing a taxi) and we could safely store our luggage after check-out. There is a small pool and a restaurant, however we weren't really advised so we only realized on check-out.
- remogisler (6/5): nice decorated, rather unmotivated staff - well it was only for one night. it's rather to expensive for what it offers. it is nicely decorated in an Arabic way. reception staff was not really communicative and motivated. the location at the main road is convenient. for one night ok if you are willing to pay the price..
- BenLamprecht (8/5): Value for Money - I had a very pleasant stay. Staff is friendly, helpful and speak English too! Both the Airconditioner and Wireless Internet works well. Remember that you need a 2 point electric plug for your laptop!
Taxi / Airport: I could not find a Taxi Driver at the Airport who spoke English, but later found Agostinho, phone +2588470811, who drove me for a week. I am very happy to recommend him.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Business - business trip, good for 1 night stay.
- Not Provided (8/5): Amazing experience in Maputo - It was amazing. Innocentio went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. Breakfast was yummy. Night swims are a must!
- 99JCPINHEIRO (6/5): Nice courtyard, friendly staff, but that's all - Nice courtyard, friendly staff, but that's all. Rooms smell awfully, they are very small and quite strange in terms of organization. The carpets in the common areas are old, smelly and very kitsch, all in all just the courtyard on the side of the pool was worth visiting.
- Racerchicklet (2/5): Don't bother staying here!! - Who rated this a 4 star?? Do they really expect me to park my car in the street...hek no. Please find better accommodation. R5000 or $480 for 4 nights is a waste of money!! The rooms smell I had to ask to be moved to the other hotel villa das mangas which is waaaay better. Next time book a well known hotel like Protea hotel. The Mangas is better
- MozEcoTours (4/5): Dreadful - Boutique? Maybe when it was conceptualized. The only element that rates positively is the 'courtyard' lounge which is pleasant and cool and not a bad meeting place. As for the rooms: dingy, grubby, small, with no natural light. The corridors were full of old mattresses leaning against the wall. The carpeted stairway leading down to the basement (where the rooms are found) was threadbare and very dirty. The reception staff were reasonably efficient but I had very limited interaction. There are so many better options at the same price that this is one to avoid.
- Ambrose (10/5): Bravo to Vilas das Arabias - great
