Guest Reviews
- DOMINIC (6/5): - It was nice but far from the city
- Kristel Mae (10/5): - Great place to enjoy our honeymoon. It’s quite, safe and easy access to the Ruins and Paradise Beach. It’s far from Santa Fe Port though but we rented out motorbikes to explore around the area. The property is clean but could do better. The hairdryer was broken but they gave us replacement right away which is nice.
The staffs are friendly. I just wished they offer more drink options (alcohol) they have wines but pricey. Overall, we like the place and would love to come back.
- jeffersong684 (8/5): The spot! - Purely Aesthetic the attention to details are insanely good they have arts on the walls and doors. They have this santorini vibe going on. The private beach is okay as well. Amenities are complete -- the infinity pool is enjoyable.
Customer service of staff is not bad and can still be improved.
- Marcob387 (10/5): ABFAB Plus - SNAPSHOT: Like other reviewers, we strongly recommend this small, boutique seacliff hotel for a relaxing and laid-back holiday. While couple rooms are not big, they are very comfortable, clean and tastefully furnished. Staff are friendly and very helpful; shout-out to manager Marielou! The outdoor pool and beach are a treat - this place is a wonderful retreat. We look forward to staying again in the future.
PROS: Bedroom AC and on-demand hot water system in bathroom both very good. Room air purifier also installed. Mini-fridge in room. Small bedside table with lamp provided. In-room wifi is strong. Infinity pool is small, but kept super clean. Plenty of outdoor furniture including tables overlooking the water. Each room has hanging racks for drying clothes. Slippers/thongs are provided. Ocean is wonderful for swimming - clean, clear and soooo warm! Canoes/kayaks available. You may be disappointed with the beach however since there is only a narrow white sand strip hugging the shoreline on both sides of the hotel.
CONS: Limited storage space for luggage and clothes. No safety deposit box for valuables. Insects are a problem at night outside, so pack your bug spray. Suggest management installs blocking curtains as some guests may be bothered by outside security lighting at night. Only one channel accessible on cable tv in our room.
FYI: Be aware that this hotel is located away from the town centre, but that is a big part of its idyllic charm. The hotel is a relatively short ride by tricycle or motorbike, however. From Santa Fe port to hotel takes about 15-20 minutes. No entertainment venues are close by, but there is a very good seafood restaurant within easy walking distance of the hotel. It is the only eatery in the vicinity unless you count the occasional roadside hawker. No kettle, microwave etc. in the room. Instant coffee sachets are provided. Plated breakfast is simple filipino style - good, but not great. Wall-mounted soap and shampoo dispensers plus hairdryer in the bathroom. Beach/pool towel provided FOC.
ADVICE: Be aware that brown-outs occur regularly on the island and last for at least one hour. Bantayan Island takes the full brunt of a tropical sun in the mornings and early afternoons so pack plenty of sunscreen and stick to shaded areas if you are heat sensitive.
- allan_y1965 (10/5): perfect to get away from the crowd - kandugyap is a small resort with a pool and access to a beach in a small cove. you could spend quality time by the pool, or sitting by the Adirondack chairs provided overlooking the sea. with only five rooms, the place was very private and we barely met other guests of the resort. service was more of a homestsay feel than it is a hotel. staff were courteous and helpful. room and bathroom were both clean and comfortable. getting around, we rented a motorbike which we drove ourselves for only 350 pesos per day. from santa fe pier to kandugyap, we spent 150 per trip for a tricycle for two passengers. a perfect place to be in bantayan.
- 933samanthat (10/5): Simply Paradise! - This is my happy place <3 I've been coming back to Kandugyap frequently since August 2021 and I must say that this place is like no other. If you're looking to unplug from the rat race and enjoy the simpler things in life, you've found your place. It's my home away from home.
They've upgraded their amenities significantly since I've first come here - there's fast and stable Fiber Internet (PLDT & Globe), free breakfast (you can choose from a few options), comfortable beds & pillows, soft & fluffy towels, and friendly & accommodating staff.
The location is a bit further out from the main tourist area, but motorbikes/scooters can be rented or you can hitch a ride from their rover (for a fee) or hire a tricycle with a driver.
Kayaks and paddleboards can be rented from this resort and it's always nice to go out and explore the nearby coves and beaches. My favorite thing about this place is the view! Sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place.
- AMlabster (2/5): WORST PLACE - DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. Here’s why:
1. RECEPTIONIST is RUDE. NOT ACCOMODATING (named DORIS) never show up in our 2days stay here
2. NO STAFF to take care when u need something
3. BEDSHEET IS THE WORST ONE. DIRTY. Picture is attached
4. TOWEL is gross and old
5.SHOWER- Water is too slow
6. POOL- DIRTY & NEVER CLEAN
7. BFAST food is so LITTLE. 2slice of tocino meat. unacceptable
8. VERY FAR from Good places to eat or Bayan
NEVER AGAIN to this place. Definitely the worst last 2days we stay in Cebu that we spend 8days here. Better go to JELLYS RESORT. You’ll get what u paid for. SERVICE & FOOD.
AVOID THIS PLACE!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location for a family vacation.
- 0516Timc (10/5): Great Place To Stay - The only negative was having to leave. Honestly, the location was beautiful. Great views. The infinity pool was great to swim and relax in. The staff was the best! They were very approachable and friendly. The professionalism from the staff was also nice. Their breakfasts while looking out at the ocean couldn’t have been better. We will definitely want to stay here again!
- Ghera (2/5): - They should treat there customer in friendly way. Woman who works there are so unfriendly and can't even smile at you.
Plus I paid too much extra because if you have family to come visit you, You have to pay 200 pesos entrance and if your family going swimming its 500 pesos just ridiculous.....And too much noise because they have construction going on. Even my daughter doesn't want to stay another night. That's how horrible the place is. Not a good experience. we didn't enjoy at all. just horrible experience.
- Marcus (8/5): Very relaxing place - Could be an amazing resort if a restaurant and bar would be installed. In fact necessary because this resort is very isolated. Staff was not very friendly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Relaxing and excellent experience - If you want to relax, this is the best place to stay! Awesome view and property!
- Lise (8/5): Good silent stay - The staff could make the general service better. Not clean towels every day, no cleaning after the first night. Place of the resort is wonderfull. Good breakfast. Hot water in shower did not work very well because of unequal waterpressure.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The property and its location is great as long as you are conscious of exactly where it's located and how distant it is from Santa Fe - the main tourist center in Bantayan where all of the restaurants are; it is a solid 20 minute bike ride away. On the upside however is the privacy. It's in a very secluded part of Bantayan; so if privacy and tranquility are your priorities - and pretty much all of the beach areas of Bantayan are quiet and relaxing - then this Kandugyap won't disappoint.
My only complaint is that I felt a bit deceived by the established and whether it was intentional or not is uncertain, however essentially I booked their 2 floor villa/house for 6 people for $80 only to discover upon arrival that that rate is for only 2 guests which is absurd because who would book a 2 floor giant home for only 2 guests? And thus, we were asked to pay an additional $200 (10k pesos) for accommodate for the 6 guest vacancy. I'm not sure if this is a genuine marketing blunder by Kandugyap or Expedia, however nonetheless common sense in my mind says nobody books a giant 2-floor home for just 2 people.
And lastly, there were little to no toiletries in the shower and restroom. For the price paid and other resorts available in Bantayan that offer similar sized villas for a similar price - such as Coral Blue - I felt a little bit of neglect on the staff's end towards the guests. They weren't rude or anything, but again when the price reaches a certain threshold, expectations rise.
- mandy0029 (8/5): Peaceful vacation - Since I am the type that really values privacy and tranquillity, I really enjoyed my stay here. There were hardly any people around - there were, after all, only 3 rooms in this resort. It's perfect for travellers seeking a quiet respite from their daily grind. Room amenities were adequate (hot shower, toiletries, cable TV, free bottled water, fridge); pool was nice - not too cold nor too hot; and I didn't have anything to complain about the service. We asked for breakfast to be served at 8am the next day, and they did. They also offered free transfer from the resort. No resto but you can have food delivered. I would definitely stay here again. :)
- Robert (10/5): House by the sea - This is our second stay at Kandugyap, the place is awesome! The staff are always very courteous and treat their customers well. While the facility is slightly outside of Sante Fe proper, it is a quiet retreat that is close enough to go into town on a Saturday night to kick up your heels!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Amazing Stay - It was indeed amazing! Best vacation by far. If you’re looking for a quiet, peaceful and relaxing place to stay, Kandugyap House by the Sea will give you that tranquility. A very instargam worthy resort. Even their breakfast! And plus points for their service.
- sallyannt64 (10/5): Beautiful!!! - This place is a hidden gem!!!! Absolutely gorgeous and I would highly recommend. Very quiet. The views are outstanding! Even though there isn’t a restaurant, they ordered us a takeaway. The staff are very friendly. Everything was kept very clean. The pool was just perfect.
- zeeeeeeeel (4/5): Could have been better - The place is ooohhh sooooo breath taking. But, customer service is something that weighs the guess' experiences dominantly. We were there last December 2017, and have experienced horrible service yet we ignored it cos the place was really one of a kind. We went back this August, and have tried pay for day tour since we haven't been able to book a villa reservation because there was room available and it was a long weekend after all. The receptionist or caretaker said that there is no day tour anymore. To our dismay, one of my friends tried to take some photos of the lamp or chandelier just to at least have some memento to the place that is supposedly sooooo worth coming back for. But the receptionist stopped her. She could have been nicer. She could have been welcoming. She could have at least smiled. Ganda ganda ng lugar pero bat ganon? Tsk
- helenj550 (6/5): This place is overrated! - The staff are nice but undertrained, this place is not as fantastic as it is shown in photos, it needs renovation. We stayed for 2 nights in the Villa, room was huge but no wifi access, staff told us the wifi was not working due to strong wind :) shower was malfunctioning, water pressure was so slow. There was a power black out during our first night no generator and we had to wake kuya up sleeping in the receiving area to help us finding some candles :) and one thing there was a Mama Mary figurine at the attic and her one eye was staring at the dining area that i could see when i look up, was scary that I had to turn the figurine to the opposite side.
There was a construction going on in front of our room, so we could not stay by the pool for sunbathing from 8 am onwards, we could not swim either as the current was so strong, photos show fantastic beach side but not during our stay. To be fair this place is so serene if you need isolation, just needs developed.
- iLa_Noah (10/5): The Best Resort in the Island - One thing we've learned from our trip in Bantayan is that 2 days and 1 night is not enough in this beautiful island especially if you are booked in Kandugyap House by the Sea. They only have 3 rooms in this resort. 1 is a villa which is good for 6 pax or more then the other 2 rooms are good for 2 pax. We booked the Dolores Villa and it felt like we owned the whole resort coz the guests in the other rooms were always out exploring the island. Such a peaceful place perfect for rest and relaxation. The staff were very accommodating too. They served yummy breakfast, lunch and dinner. They don't have a restaurant but you can ask them to cook and even go to the market for you for a minimal fee. We also love their pool. Although, this place is far from Sta. Fe proper but no worries coz they have a shuttle service for you. Such a mesmerizing place that you don't wan't to leave.
- Methyl (4/5): Off-the-grid - Not what I expected. The weather was a factor though. It was too windy and the water condition was rough. I bet the entire stay would have been great if the weather was good. The place is really nice, you'll have a sense of privacy. The staff were great, helpful and accommodating. If you want to be off-the-grid, this is the place to be.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a great time at Kandugyap! We initially wanted to book for 2 days but it was already fully booked the next day. Our one day there was well-spent. We love that the location is far from the crowd and we get to spend the whole place almost to ourselves. The place is great for couples and families. Glad that there are also nearby restaurants. Would definitely stay here again when we go back to Bantayan.
- Pensierodivergente (10/5): Excellent! - i'm italian, I been in this resort two times, first with my wife, and the second time, last January 2018, with my family.
The place is magic, as paradise.
In the morning you can wake up and stay in the swimming pool or just sit on a chair to watch the wonderful panorama, the men that they fish early morning..
Then the service is excellent, kindly and nice, they prepare typical breakfast for you every morning.
We had rent scooters for go around the small city.
The Island is wonderful, but not so easy to reach from Cebu city, you need almost 4 hours by bus from Cebu city bus station and 1 hour of ferry too.
But it's worth the travel.
I advice to stay at least 1 week.
I hope i'll come back soon there, in the same resort of course!
- Hansky18 (10/5): highly recommended - location situated in a cliff overlooking the sea so the view is excellent and very relaxing. We love to just sit on the lounge watching the boats passed with the sound of the birds and splashing of the waves on the background.-- though situated in the cliff it is just a few steps on the beach so it is very accessible even for senior folks. The sunrise is very beautiful, I didn't miss any sunrise on my entire stay, each day i experienced different colours and beauty...it is beautiful.
The resort is not in the main sta. fe beach but i have everything i need in the resort, as a matter of fact...We have been only once to kota beach and we didnt like it much because the beach looks dirty on low tide though it is very enticing on the picture and drone shots that we took. Other attractions is just walking distance from the resort like the cliff diving, ogtong cave and the paradise beach. The resort is quite small with only three rooms available and infinity pool...so we enjoy our privacy and tranquility...which gives us a very relaxing holiday away from the noise of the big crowd.
Room is basic and not big enough but the bed and pillows are comfortable, it is clean including the bathroom and interior match with the concept of the resort.
Food, the resort doesn't have in house restaurant but you can ask the staff to buy and prepare food for you at minimal price. Breakfast comes with the room and it is good and satisfying.
Staff - they are the best. They are very nice and very accommodating...they try their very best to do all our request. We can feel the sincerity of their service and make us feel at home.
Overall, We highly recommend Kandugyap house by the sea , It gives us a feeling of vacationing in our own rest house and there are many instagram-worthy spots with in the resort.
- poohbearl0u (10/5): Bantayan haven away from home - It was the 2nd time for me and my uncle to be in Bantayan and the first time for my parents and brother.
My parents rarely like to travel so it took me months of "stalking" resort reviews until I stumbled across Kandugyap's page somewhere in the world wide web. It was like love at 1st sight as I browsed though the pics. And I kept my fingers crossed that the 2 nights and 3 days trip I planned for my family would be worth it.
And it was. From the time I was booking the place and coordinating with the owner prior to our arrival, I was already impressed by how fast they responded to my queries and accommodated my requests.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and they helped us arrange our tour.
But despite how beautiful the other sites were, we were already happy enough staying at the resort and in Villa Dolores and enjoyed the use of the pool and the beach. There were a lot of picture-worthy spots in the place itself. Also since the place has limited no. Of rooms, we felt that the place was like our own.
The foods they cooked for us were also very good.
Will surely come back and recommend Kandugyap House by the Sea 👍👍👍
- KimMichael30 (10/5): Excellent View - This is a highly recommended accommodation in Bantayan. We arrived at the port exactly 11am after SInulog week and our land transfer was already waiting for us. Staff were really nice and helpful. View from the pool, overlooking the sea is excellent. Breakfast was good.
The only thing we do not like the most is the proximity from Santa Fe which is pretty manageable.
To the owner, I am very sorry if we had to leave a day earlier as we just have to stay with our friends nearby. We really appreciate your kindness. Can't wait to go back here and stay longer.
- JP (4/5): Good Place to swim but bad service!! - Well, it was very good to swim both in the sea and pool. There were just 3 rooms so it was very private. I can recommend this hotel if you just wanna enjoy swimming, but if you want a good service, I will not recommend. The staffs were not accommodating and they seemed kind of annoyed whenever we asked them for sth. Plus, the room was quite small, there were no toothbrush and there were a lot of ants, which I hated the most However, I really enjoyed staying there bc I was able to swim and do snorkeling for long and it was totally private
- Verified traveler (8/5): Can't wait to go back! - Great service and off the grid. They helped us rent a scooter and also provided shuttle service to get around to most places (eg. island hopping, cave resort). The staff were friendly and even shopped at the market and cooked us lunch at a minimal cost. The pool was nice and refreshing and lots of seating to hang out. Steps to their small beach and the snorkelling there was nice.
- jerryocampo (10/5): A fabulous find in Bantayan Island. Highly recommended! - I fell in love with Kandugyap house stunning location and the amazing pool. The accommodation was simple but yet very comfortable even during electric power cuts their own electric generator kicks in to ensure your aircon runs throughout the night!
The breakfast was lovely, freshly prepared by the team of wonderful staff who maintains the rooms, pool, garden etc so immaculately clean during our stay. There’s no restaurant but they offer a breakfast to order the day before so don’t forget to order yours. During our stay the staff also cook for our lunch and dinner for a small fee. Compliments to the staff at Kandugyap House for ensuring we had an amazing peaceful vacation!
- Dhuana (6/5): we haven't got any conformation from the hotel - we haven't got any conformation from the hotel so we end up paying the port fee and vehicle when we arrived at the port it should have been free. They told us about the process when we already arrived at the reception
- Al (8/5): Clean, simple, a bit out of the way. - Nice little place, clean, simple, a bit out of the way, but the staff really try hard to accommodate and to be helpful.
- 583acea (10/5): Private getaway! - Oh, this place is a gem! We arrived here around 10:30 in the morning, though we're not yet allowed to check in but we are free to roam around the area and enjoy the pool. Then, after an hour they allowed us to check in because they are done cleaning the room. Room is okay, nothing special but it has a homey feeling to it. Clean and cold room.
For the food, I advise that you'll buy one before heading here. Though they offer all day breakfast for Php 160. But, you don't have to worry because you can you can ask Kuya Nonoy to buy food for you in the city, and that's for free. (Of course we gave him a tip)
Getting here is not a problem, from the port you can ride tricycle to Kandugyap which is priced for only Php 50. Tricycle there offers tours as well, starting from Php 400 per head, depending on the place you wanna visit.
To summarize our trip here, it was wonderful and something that you wanna do again! We'll surely go back here.
This place is a darling and instagrammable! Perfect for millennials! ❤️
- kringa2017 (10/5): Four Thumbs Up! - "best decision talaga that we chose Kandugyap over any other resorts in Bantayan" - my girlfriend and I would always tell each other.
We arrived at Hagnaya Port around 4 in the morning and we immediately called Kandugyap to ask if they could pick us up at Sta. Fe Port when we arrive and also request for an early check-in. We were glad and surprised that the owner answered our call and happily granted all our requests. (We're really sorry sir if we disturb your sleep. Hehe) Upon reaching the terminal at Sta. Fe Port, we are delighted to see their striking in-house rover waiting for us along with the driver who greeted us cheerfully. Upon arriving at Kandugyap, checking-in was a breeze, we were introduced to the villa and the staff left us on our own to explore the place. The senior citizens (my mom, aunt and uncle) were readily amazed by the looks and atmosphere of the resort.
The only CON about this place, in my honest opinion, is its location in terms of transportation and access to stores & restaurants. I don't remember seeing any tricycles passing by the house (except maybe tour tricyles or private ones), there are few ones waiting outside Ogtong Cave Resort though but you have to walk a few hundred meters to get there. Anyway, you can always ask the staff on how to get around town or you can just hire a private tricycle to drive you around. I also recommend to buy food & other stuff that you need before checking-in or when you get the time to stop by at the town's public market.
If you're looking for a place to just chill and unwind, away from the hustle and bustle of the town, and if you can't stand the noise and activities of too many people in one resort, Kandugyap is just the right place for you. If we are to visit Bantayan Island again someday, we will definitely stay at Kandugyap House by the Sea again. <3
- vicmayor1977 (10/5): Excellent Stay by the Sea - Location: located in Sta Fe. Kandugyap is a bit far from the Center of Sta Fe. It is 2.5 km from the Port. It is in a quiet area and rental of Motor is advisable. The resort has its own service tricycle for a fee.
Check In: Fast, friendly and efficient handled by Malu.
Dolores Villa: The Villa is HUGE. It has 3 Queen Sized Beds. 1 Bed on the ground floor with a Cable TV and 2 beds on the loft. It has a living room, dining room and fully working kitchen where you can cook. There is a water dispenser in the dining room. The Villa has 2 AC Units. The beds were very comdortable and pillows were plenty. Blanket though is Very Thin but it doesnt matter for me.
Bathroom: the Bathroom is quite small. The toilet has a bidet. There is hot shower but water pressure is very weak. Soap and shampoo were provided.
Grounds: Kandugyap is a small resort but very well maintained. It is like a piece of Greece in Bantayan. Very nice resort with magnificent views of the sea.
Beach: the beach area is in a cove. Sand is powdery fine. Water is crystal clear. I really enjoyed the beach and during my 3 days stay never got to share it with anyone. Do expext though to see bits and pieces of litter in the water probably brought there from other areas.
Swimmimg Pool: well maintained pool.
Food: Kandugyap only serves all day breakfast. The breakfast they served was good. You have a choice of corned beef, tocino, chorizo plus some other choices all served with rice and a fruit plus drink. You can have them buy seafood or meat then have them cook it for you for a fee or buy it yourself. Or cook it yourself if in the Villa. Best bet for food is to go to town center of Sta Fe where there are a wide range of choices.
Service: there were some complaints about service. I rate service depending on the establishment and since this is a family run resort i adjust my expectations lower and they did live up to that expectation. Service is more of a at home type of service. And staying at Kandugyap did feel like home.
Overall: It was a stay i enjoyed immensely. I did not go wrong in booking with Kandugyap.
- 828darekh (6/5): Nice place ... not the best staff - Nice Owner and this place have incredible beach and super view ... and this is all positive what we can find !!!!
We rent scouter .. in 2 days is broken 4 times .....
We stay 3 weeks in this place ... Shower broken if U try use they Falls down from wall ...
light lamp outside and light on the wall inside room dont works
we have breakfast with nice view made only ONE time in 3 weeks !!!
If U pay for something extra in this hotel .. make sure U have change money because they newer dont give U money back
2 beers cost 70 peso .. if U give 100 peso dont expect they give U money back
Only one person in this place speak basic English
The best bad what we observe ..... when we eat breakfast .. and Hotel is full of costumers ... One from staff walk in and kick small black dog !!!!! all people in hotel sew this and no reaction !!!
- Mean (8/5): - Quiet place. good place to relax unlike other beach resort that are crowded,. great staff. definitely i would always want to come back here .
- mayang (10/5): Perfect Staycation - It's my second time in Bantayan Island and Kandugyap House by the Sea is the perfect place to stay. Perfect place for staycation. Room price is affordable and worth it. The owner and staff were accomodating and readily available to our needs. Best part is, free drinking water.
- adventure begin (10/5): Awsome/relax - The best way to escape all your worries in life...stay in kandugyap.the most relaxing place, not crowded, food is well served.nice people.great resort.
- Liz (10/5): Your Own Little Santorini Hideaway. - It's a very very charming little cliff property tucked away off the beaten path. It is away from the busy side of Sta. Fe. The place was quite perfect for us, since my husband is not into crowds, knowing Bantayan to be a haven for tourists esp in summer. It's a little piece of Santorini in Bantayan. Their beach line is short, but it's very very private. There are only 2 double rooms and 1 villa in this resort, but because it's new, it was very nice and vibrant. When we were there, there were only 5 of us. The staff was very accommodating. The only cons are, other than the breakfast meals and some chips (doritos, ruffles), there was nothing else to eat there, which was a bit of a struggle when we had our baby with us. There was also power outage for a few hours. You can buy food from the local market and ask for the staff to cook them for you at a nominal fee. For a small fee, they can take you to and fro to the center Sta. Fe. The staff are really there for your every beck and call. I hope they will get a standby generator, even if this is only for fans and to charge our devices. We'll be back soon with the rest of our family. Thanks, Kandungyap, for the short but very memorable time!
