Guest Reviews
- Francis Alan (8/5): - Good place for a short stay
- Ahmad Amirul Amin (4/5): - Small table to out things. No place to hold your cloths. No shower gel
- Mardi (8/5): - Good location close proximity to many restaurants, ATMs & Starling Mall . 24/7 helpful reception staff . Free water bottle refill, comfy mattress. Room needs deep clean , wall power socket broken . Hot water only tepid . 45 mins Grab car ride to central KL .
- Verified traveler (6/5): Run down - Hotel is quite run down after corvid. pandemic
- MrSighton (2/5): Not Good ---- On Mid of the Year 2022 - Insufficient of Man Power
Can tell how exhausted the reception is just by looking at her soulless eyes
I told her my room aircond is not working the next morning
She dont feel bad for me at all
Not even bother
Most of the room here is without window
Ventilation were bad
No escalator
People with long hours travel schedule
you may need to climb 2~3 floor to reach your room
Damnnnnnnn
- Joey (2/5): Bad, Worst, Terrible, Awful - Terrible front desk service during check out. Rooms hygiene are all in very bad condition. Even got yellow and red stain on bed sheet I wonder did they even change it. No hairdryer, no water boiler, broken shower heater and TV, I wonder what can be worst?
- Qi Siang Jeffery (4/5): Overrated ..... - Room was very small compare with photo show and old(a bit yellow). Reception was not showing happy face when we check in.
- the_broke_travellerr (4/5): Poor rating is an understatement. - Pictures in the hotel was pretty nice, with massage machines, and clean beds. But thats a lie....
However, when i booked a family suite, the bedsheets and towels wasn’t changed after i put the makeup room sign.
Beware of the “not so friendly” attitude at the service counter.
For the same price, honestly, you can find other better hotels.
If not, pay a couple more bucks for a better hotel!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - No hanger to hang clothes and towel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Memuaskan kebersihan yang bagus..
- BeyondBanality (4/5): Better options nearby at same price point - Stayed here a couple of times for proximity to One Utama shopping mall (MYR7-15 by GRAB) because the hotel there is expensive. Not sure why people would otherwise stay in Damansara since there are budget hotels in the city as well.
Plenty of amenities within walking distance such as cafes, bars, local coffeeshops. Two fantastic speakeasies are in the same row (Hyde and 61 Monarchy). Nearby street parking is free, but difficult to find especially weekend nights when it is peak period at the bars and cafes.
The cheapest room is around MYR70 (+ MYR10 if you are a foreign visitor)- no windows and just enough space for a bed and table. Sheets are stained but smell clean. Typical of such budget hotels, there is no separate compartment for shower so the water floods the entire bathroom (my pet peeve!!!). Drainage can be poor depending on your luck. No shelves to put any toiletries so you need to bring a toiletry bag or basket with a hook for your stuff. Only liquid soap provided in a mineral water bottle (mega weird).
No stairs to get to the rooms.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room is clean, however the lights outside the walk way was terrible. Lights keep flashing and no one bother to change the bulb.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Im enjoying my stay here.
- Hotelprincess01 (2/5): Horrible service - Took 3 hours to check in. The person working at the front desk had a terrible attitude, was incredibly rude and did not take his job seriously. Besides, after the 3 hour "cleaning", room given was dirty. Toilet seat was broken.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel to sleep - A couple of things you must be aware before you book this room - there is another Sovotel on the other side of the area and there are rooms without windows and also, no elevators. With that out of the way, the room I stayed was small but at that price, it's expected. It is pretty clean and quiet - cos the other guests were quite courteous. If they start talking loud, etc. you might be able to hear.
Location-wise, it is good if you are looking for food in that area. There is no metro/subway nearby and you'll have to take a cab. Car park is limited and it's in the open public area even though I saw a couple of reserved spots in front - maybe you do get easy parking.
As it is a hotel repurposed from a few shophouses - don't expect any other facilities. The bed is comfortable. Aircon is quiet.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean and value for money. Basic but sufficient. Location is good
- keecheng (8/5): Comfortable small room - Excellent cleanliness. Small room for standard queen size with window. Room only ready at 3pm. Toilet bowl no flushing water. That were the only negative comment from me. Shower Water pressure is good. Suggest to provide a floor mat in the room so the room flooring will not get wet when out from toilet.
Very happy with the stay. Hotel near to lots of restaurants and a shopping mall.
- Huilong (6/5): Small but functional room in great location - The hotel is location in great area with lot of nice eateries (at affordable price). It is also near to large shopping malls (1Utama, eCurve).
Room-wise: The room is small but with decent queen size bed. Toilet is too small without any racks or shower curtains. Each room comes with a small massage chair which is a bliss after a day of work. But it is not suitable for work travel as the room does not come with a desk / chair.
There is no F&B options in the hotel, apart for one table and 2 chairs in the lobby. But, why pack back when you are surrounded by food options.
Cleanliness: There was no room makeup service over the 2 nights stay, despite i put up the sign. :<
- Apple (4/5): Non-smoking become a smoky room - Our room 309, I requested a non smoking room and it becomes at full of tabacco smoky room. When I inform the receptionist she just offer me a perfume spray for it. Whole night I become a nightmare staying there.
As early at 7pm I do not hesitate to check out the room.
Then I inform the receptionist again about the massage machine is spoil , but didn't seem any response from the staff.
Will not recommend SOVOTEL HOTEL to other.
By the way, because the bad air flow day after staying there I had a bad sore throat.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice place to stay - There's another Sovotel branch at the other side of Uptown. Make sure you go to the right one. Wish they provide free shutter. The hotel has no lift thus have to walk up to 3rd floor with my heavy luggage. Overall is a nice place to stay -surrounded with good food and near the mall.
- sereneangie (4/5): Not coming back here again - Well, first of all, the key card didn't function well and the staff couldn't fix it despite numerous attempts so it's a hassle for me to go in and out. The room basically doesn't have much to offer. No complimentary drinks. No closet, no hangers, no toiletries, not even a phone to call for room service. The Wifi isn't good either and I couldn't use it on multiple devices. For a new hotel (and in the city), I'm not impressed at all. I've been to hotels cheaper than this and these hotels are way better than this one.
The advantage is the location because there are a lot of restaurants, cafes, and shops nearby including a laundry. However, I'm still not coming back. Just not worth it.
- wong (10/5): pleasant stay - convenience location
- Abdul Rahaman (10/5): It's a great place. - Friendly staff. Good service. Room service is great.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Parking space - Hotel staff did not manage to reserve a parking space for hotel customers even the sign board is prepared and the parking space is always park by non-hotel customer until midnight
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great place for a short stay - The room is minimal but clean and comfortable. The price is fairly ok for the room I choose with a queen bed. Could improve on the towels (abit dirty) and provide toiletries (eg. toothbrush & hair dryer).
Overall, it's a good place to stay for 1night.
- Seong Boon (10/5): Overall hotel environment is comfortable. - The room is clean but the wifi is very slow.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Front desk staff needs training in English. We couldn't understand half the words he said.
- BorneanLady (8/5): Value for money for overnight stay - What i love about this hotel is the foot massage. My husband cant get enough of it especially after a long day walking, we just can't wait to get back to the hotel and try it on. It was a lovely place, location is superb, a walking distance to The Starling Mall and lots of eatery and bar nearby. we stayed at 3rd floor, but we travel light. Not recommended for those travel with heavy luggage. If you do, suggest you get 1st floor as they have no lift.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Was a nice and clean, the receptionist was very polite and helpful.. The area also nice and very convenient to restaurants and public transportation.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Above expectation - Very nice hotel. Just a bit congested shared parking.
- steven (8/5): - Overall good experience , decent price , convienent location
- khoo (8/5): affordable pricing with many nice cafes surrounded - 1. very nice hotel clean & friendliness staff.
2. plenty of cafe surrounded till you do not know which one to go.
the only drawback, super difficult to find parking
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Room is way too small with minimal toiletries provided.
- Quraishia (8/5): - satisfied with my stay . nothing to complain about. :)
- Verified traveler (8/5): Convenient location - Lots of food choices, massage and shopping mall around its vicinity
- Verified traveler (8/5): Value for moneyw - Check in was hassle free. Many eateries around, difficult to find parking and value for money.
- zulkipeli (8/5): parking space - good except parking problem
- Loga (6/5): 1st stay in boutique hotel - Impolite staff during the check out 23rd Nov17.
No morning greetings. Maybe it is a standard for boutique hotel.
- 960laurencec (6/5): Hotel & PJ Uptown amenities - Next door to the hotel is under renovation (Sovotel extension to next door) from Monday to Saturday & it's very noisy. The extension will official be ready by end Nov 2017. So unless you are out whole day, then don't stay at this Sovotel Hotel. It's a non-smoking hotel. Room is very crampy just enough space for one person to walk around. No toilet accessories. So have to bring your own toothbrush, toothpaste, soap bar etc. Only shower cream is available on wall, one variety only. For 🚿 it uses the heating box unit. No free tea or coffee but has a kettle & a foot massage machine. Along the corridor there's a water dispenser. Consolation, the staff are nice.
Advantage of the hotel is it's location. Along the street walking backward(one way traffic only)has plenty of eatery cafes & pubs. At the other end there's even a self service laundry. Behind the block, there's a Muslim Indian coffee shop serving all kinds of Muslim food & roti platter 24 hours. Across the road from the coffee shop, Starling Mall, a newly opened shopping mall with plenty of restaurants, cafes & retailing shops. Not to mention there are plenty of Banks around the area with ATM machines.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The hotel was under renovation which was not indicated on the website. We checked in at 2.30pm & renovation works with drilling sounds could be heard from our room! :( Even on the next morning (Sunday) the drilling started at 8.00am! This disrupted our sleep hence we could not get a good rest. Disappointing. Should provide a discount or voucher as a form of compensation.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Average stay - Overall stay is good but room are too small. Very convenient.
- YunY_13 (6/5): . - I stayed in that hotel for a night due to competition the next day. The room I stayed was a luxury type so basically it's bigger compared to the size my friends'. A massage chair was a highlight of the room. I like the open-wardrobe is placed near the bathroom. The cons was that there's no lift because the room was at third floor and we brought luggage.
- chephrenchua (8/5): Simple but nice for 1 person quick stay overnight - Firstly, it's a public carpark, so no security to look after, parking is a nightmare during office hour but better at night.
The reception is friendly, and the rooms are upstairs, no lift. So if you are lugging heavy luggage, good luck staying on the 3rd floor.
Currently there is renovation going on, likely ongoing till september end, so be ready to wake up to noise at 8am.
The place is very near many food outlet and the new shopping mall, so plus point for that. It is also very easy to drive out to TTDI or LDP as it is very near but not directly beside these two noisy highway.
Room is small but good enough for 1 person, a loving couple will like the small space available. Massage chair or foot massager is available but very worn out, likely after a few hundreds feet going in and out of it. I didn't try though.
All in all, it is cheap and good for a quick stop over, staying more than 2 nights I probably suggest other place.
- Lai (6/5): Meet expectations. - Quiet place to stay.Lots of restaurants surrounding.
- AddieY (8/5): good location within damansara utama vicinity - uptown is famous for being a food heaven, and with a new mall there Starling Mall, there's even more reason to frequent this place. There are 2 sovotel boutique hotels here, mine is Sovotel 101, located behind the corner starbucks and Chilli Pan Mee shop. The other one is Sovotel 36 - facing LDP highway. Do take note while making your booking :)
My room is clean, facilities are good and hot water shower working fine. Bed is also comfy and drinking water is provided. You can borrow a hairdryer from the front counter is needed. With the money Im paying, im very satisfied with the service I received.
One complain, there seems to be a renovation ongoing next door. It was a Sunday, yet at 9am I could hear drilling and hammering right next to my room wall on the ground floor. It went on for 2 hours and stop slightly before lunch time.
- jo k p (6/5): Nice Budget close to 1Utama Mall & Starling Mall - Budget hotel small but ok clean .
Near 1Utama Mall, taxi 10 mins & Starling Mall, walking 5 mins ,
Plenty food outlets rattling around walking will do , day time till 10pm some
- Verified traveler (6/5): Please consider to install lift ... - Perfect location and it is easy to grab Uber service. Check in is a bit slow. Room is relatively small but overall it is okay. The only setback to me is no lift service and I need to drag my luggage to 3rd floor
- Verified traveler (8/5): Overall good stay - Overall good except there's a day where there's no Housekeeping due to cleaner did not report work
- Wee Guan (10/5): Good n nice hotel with abundance of foods - Bcheck in n check out very fast. Room is clean with good wifi. Air-con is cold and hot water pressure is good. Local food all around the hotel and some shops even open 24 hours. Texas chicken is round the corner and new big Sterling mall just behind hote.
- RENWEIP1 (6/5): smell of cigarettes is very heavy - The hotel location was good, but the hotel beside was a karaoke so was so noise during night time & Noise stopped after midnight The smell of cigarettes is very heavy inside the room.
Lot's of food surrounding the hotel area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The foot massage is cool but it is worn out already. Look old
- abuzar (10/5): - Neat n tidy room. Not so spacy. Thats all. Its good for business travelers...
- Ahmad Fadzlee (6/5): Confusing. - There are 2 hotels similarly named. Have to be extra careful or faced the traffic jam getting from 1 hotel to the other.
- Blaker (6/5): Feedback - Average satisfy.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Budget hotel in PJ - A simple budjet hotel in PJ if you are looking for a clean room to crach. Has all the minimum requirements.
No toiletries given. Plenty of eataries around.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Basic clean hotel with great location - For the price you it's quite good, especially considering the good location. But the hotel doesn't have lift and the sound proofing is like non-existence (you can hear the other room or corridor noise if they were talking a bit louder than usual). Lastly, when booking uber/grab, because as it will always point to the Sovotel uptown 61 instead. try booking using ocbc as landmark instead
- 699tingtingl (8/5): Big surprise! - Upon checking in, the front desk staff was very friendly and informative. In fact there are two Sovotel in PJ uptown, we went to the wrong one. But the front desk staff able to trace our booking and gave us a clear direction even they are not local Malaysian.
The surprise in the room was the branded foot massage machine. This help a lot after a busy and long walking day.
Finding food is definitely not a matter AT all! Many bank around this area too. Pharmacy Rezing just behind the hotel, very convenient.
- Verified traveler (6/5): good rates - good rates and a lot food nearby
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Basic, clean and location suitable for our purpose. For the price value for money
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Location ws good, Lots of food and transportation was easy.
- Wanderwomaninlove (8/5): Good service - I booked the hotel for 6 nights. I was warmly greeted by the receptionist named NICK. He was very smiley , warm & helpful.
I was concerned about the unavailability of lift as I had a big luggage , and wanted to have a ground level room. But he suggested the upper level since I am here for a long time and suggested that ground level might be noisy. He even offered to help with my luggage, with great enthusiasm.
However , housekeeping can be improved further. The bedsheets / duvet is very worn-out, and looks dirty . The massage device also looks old, though the concept is super.
Another staff named Zahid was also very helpful when i mentioned about the bedsheet after my 3rd night . He changed to new ones immediately with a smile .
Overall, the customer service is excellent, but the cleanliness need to match up to it .
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Room is small like japanese hotel but the location and room cleanliness gets a thumbs up.
- D401HDleej (10/5): Nice place for you to over night - Thanks to Sovotel hotel. Sovotel hotel is a budget, simple, nice and hygienic place to stay. If u r on business or leisure trip, this is the place suit to you. There are many food shop around the area. During night time, this area is happening! There is many shopping mall around the area. One U shopping mall and Paradigm mall are nearby! Most important, The Starling shopping mall is going to open soon(just behind the hotel)! It is convenient for all type of trip! Thanks to Sovotel.
- Raymond (10/5): 1 of the best budget stay at Petaling Jaya - Value for money. Affordable, cosy, clean and great place to stay. Shopping mall is just 5mins drive away.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice Toilet - Value for money.. and i was impressed by the nice toilet..
- LiamDowson (2/5): Do not stay - Got put in this dive for 3 weeks when I moved to this country in March, it pretty much was the worst part of being in the country.
Loads of mine and my wife's clothes went missing during our 3 week stay.
Originally we planned for 2 weeks but had to extend to 3 weeks due to housing issues, when we asked for an extra week stay they tried to move us in to another room even though the hotel was completely empty.
When we eventually left a day earlier than what we booked it took 4 hours to get a refund for one day, we then had to return as they had refused to give us the deposit for my boss.
Do not stay in this place
- chen300 (10/5): Reasonable Price - Stayed at this hotel for 1 night. I had request the room with window and the staff very friendly which try to search for the window room for me. Finally got the room at 3rd floor. The room cery clean and comfy, small but it is a reasonable price with what you paid for. Toilet clean. Parking for the daytime will be quite difficult park because they don't have their own parking lot.
- 732chuans (8/5): Well overall not bad - Well overall not bad, aircond is quite cold
Reception is nice
Free gintel massages
Wifi not bad
For me a good design for the room
But no hanger in bathroom, and no elevator have to walk up, it just enough place for a person to walk in the room
- Wilson (8/5): Good stay - It was a pleasant experience and service was good.
- vainz92 (8/5): Great Value - For the price paid, the room was pretty good! Comes with towel and an awesome shower. The electrical foot massager provided was a pleasant surprise. The machine itself seems to be quite old (the faux leather was a wee bit worn off), but functional. Air-conditioning was good, bed is pretty okay, all in all, a pretty good deal!
On the downside tho, there's no elevator or lift, so if you get rooms on the 3rd floor, do expect a bit of exercise. Also, the sound isolation between rooms is not that good. Do be considerate and keep your noise level down.
