zia (10/5): - Room was clean and had modern bathroom and adequate furnishings. Close to the shopping centre with plenty of parking available. Friendly staff and breakfast was good as well. No complaints at all and will likely stay there again soon.
Shirley (8/5): Return Visitor - Having used this hotel previously, we knew the layout and the routine/operation of it. My Husband described it as 'shabby chique' due to the age/decor within the hotel, stair carpets are badly worn & only service lift working (the guest lift hasn't worked for several years) We booked with breakfast which was nice albeit attention to detail could have been better via the waitress. We were greeted 'pleasantly' on several occassions by the numerous reception staff however there was one male receptionist that we felt was abrupt, cheeky and lacking good customer service skills. I wouldn't hesitate booking again as it was in a good central location for our needs. We did notice that on the 2nd floor there was a smell of stale cigarette smoke even though the rooms displayed no smoking signs.
Syed (4/5): Need a revamp, dirty rooms. - I asked for a complimentary 2 hours stay on the day of check out but they refused and instead asked for 10£ per hour. Very unprofessional and disappointing. I had to book for another day , so paid extra £31 for the stay. I would want it to be refunded back. The rooms were ok, but lamp shades were full of dust, toilet was full of spider webs. Carpets were dirty.
Paul (4/5): I’ve heard of shabby chic but this is just shabby - The hotel is so run down it automatically puts you into a negative state of mind immediately. Carpets doors walls stairs everything was ragged torn and at least 40 years old. If I had known the hotel was like this I would never have booked. To cap it off the lift was broken too… and the free breakfast wasn’t available as the receptionist said “I have no idea what is happening with the kitchen. I don’t think anyone is there so there will be no breakfast”
Thomas (6/5): - Cheap basic hotel . Breakfast server appeared overwhelmed. Self serve continental breakfast empty ( no cutlery, glasses bread , juice all at one time ) . Had to ask for it to be replenished. Quality of cooked breakfast ok . Noted excellent cleaning of tables etc in dining area .

Verified traveler (6/5): Reduced rate stay - Experienced a few issues but staff did sort them out promtly and in the end we had a very comfortable night. First room had not been serviced, second room the TV didn't work but the third was great and recently renovated. A few flies and a puddle from a leaky window. Car park was also unsecured which wasn't well advertised prior to booking. Overall for the reduced rate paid, we got what we expected.

Andrew (6/5): Not as pictured - Hotel itself was pleasant enough. However our room was lacking. The bathroom was not as pictures on the site when booking, seems improvements are ongoing and we had a bathroom with a really ages shower. Cracked tiles and dirty grouting. The shower was fixed..so could not be adjusted. Bedding was clean however the sheet was too small to properly cover the mattress. Reception staff were very welcoming and helpful.

Paul (8/5): Comfortable bed. - Nice hotel with a comfortablebed, check in staff fantastic. Onsite underground parking is a bit dingy, could do with brightening up and better lighting. Stairs from carpark to reception need new carpeting as very soiled and spoils the overall feel of a nice hotel. Would I stay again? Yes.

Ian (2/5): Stay at The Bruce Hotel - On arrival was informed that not only the Resturant was closed but the whole kitchen & dining room was closed so no breakfast available only a very poor selection was available as a ‘grab & go’. Room faced onto the road which although was quiet at night soon got busy & noisy in the morning. Room was cluttered with mirrors, pictures & other forms of artwork. Rest of hotel looked worn & tired, needing dressing up & redecorating.

Irene (2/5): The worst hotel ever - Our experience was terrible. On arrival after an eight hour car journey we were advised that there was no restaurant or bar facilities. There was only one staff member on site covering reception, so no management to complain to. We then had to leave the hotel and search for somewhere to eat. Got back to the hotel to our room only to discover that the TV didn't work. There was no batteries in the remote control. Night Porter put batteries into the remote but TV still didn't work. We then discovered that it was the wrong remote for the tv, so he changed the remote and finally got tv to work. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, therefore, had a really bad nights sleep. In the morning I needed to use the hair dryer but unfortunately the attachments didn't fit, so had to go to reception and ask them to replace it. We were unfortunately booked into this hotel for another two nights, and in that time there were no staff or management. If you wanted to change bedding then you had to do it yourself. In my opinion this hotel should never have been opened as they were unable to provide any service. There was nothing on their web site stating that there were no facilites, otherwise I would never have booked. In fact they were advertising their new restaurant. On checking out I asked reception to pass on my complaints to management and was assured that someone would contact me. I have been home now for over a week and no one from the Bruce hotel has been in touch.
Stuart (4/5): Disappointing - Had been told before booking that the restaurant would be closed. No idea why, but the was fair enough. However when we arrived the place was like a funeral home. No music playing at at or any ambience. Not only that but the bar was closed as well !! Rory, the receptionist, was brilliant. Couldn’t have been more helpful and was so apologetic. The room was dismal. Nowhere to sit. This was an upgraded room so who knows what the standard was like ? Rory offered us another room but it wasn’t much better. We actually decided to cut our losses and went to a different hotel. My other half had told me great things about this hotel, but on this showing, I wouldn’t hurry back. Owners should probably listen to what their staff say !!!

Lawrie (2/5): Bruce hotel disaster - My room had an absolutely foul smell from start to finish. The customer service was terrible as I wasn’t even shown where my room was. The bath room was extremelly dirty, I wouldn’t have even used the bath as it looked as if it hadn’t been used for weeks. My room was so uncomfortable I felt like I was lying in dirt. Both me and my friend were extremelly unimpressed.

Alastair (8/5): Bruce Hotel, tired but good value. - The Bruce surprised me. Public areas are presentable and reasonably well decorated. The bedrooms are comfortable but could do with updating. Then again considering the room rate this all better than it should be. Of note I carelessly left a tablet behind and this was recovered, so many thanks to the staff. Unscrupulous honesty, which will get my return business. Thank you.

A (10/5): Great value hotel - The Bruce Hotel offers fantastic value. Great Scottish breakfast in the morning. Bang in the centre of East Kilbride, therefore handy for the Central Belt of Scotland. Don’t expect stunning views or huge rooms, just well priced compared to the rest of the market in East Kilbride
Verified traveler (8/5): Not the best, not the worst. - Staff in the reception and in the restaurant were lovely, think the receptionists name was maybe Lydia? Not sure but she was very kind and helpful. Room was very cold and damp and there was so much noise all night that sounded like an extractor fan or something like that. When we went out and came back our tv and light was on as if somebody was in the room while we were out which was a bit uncomfortable. Probably about what you’d expect for the price to be fair.

Unprofessional & noisy resetting tables & no apology bumping my chair. Shower tiny, bed comfortable. No real warmth from any staff during the entire stay. Shame as us Scottish are normally so warm and welcoming.

The room was dirty, hair everywhere, shower was too small with fungus growing everywhere and the little water the shower produced flooded the floor and soaked the bedroom carpet. Company out the back started heavy works machinery at 5.45 am. The hotel receptionist was more interested speaking on a mobile than deals with guests. Asked if I could have room service and was told they don’t have any plates. First and last time in this dump. Better accommodation out there and cheaper.

Shower was terrible it dripped rather than flowed. This room was not what was shown in the photos online. Some rooms might be being renovated as signs said but there was no evidence of this. I'd be embarrassed to recommend this accommodation to anyone. Avoid at all costs

Mark (8/5): Decent hotel - Rooms small but clean and comfy. Tea and coffee making facilities. Towels and toiletries supplied. Staff lovely and very helpful. Breakfast not so good, waitress takes and writes down your order and delivers something totally different or items missing. This lets hotel down. Lift a bit cranky, doors shut very quickly easy to get trapped and a couple of women got stuck in the lift . Very clean hotel and reception staff are great.

Several guests parked in the entrance making it difficult to exit the car park. The food was good and the service was pleasant. the hotel was undergoing refurbishment but I could live with that.

Receptionist very helpful at check in especially as I had 2 reservations for the week, she ensured I was re-located into 1 room for the duration of my stay (hotel very full). Only issue for me is the lift is still not working (awaiting spare parts), it is several weeks now WAITING FOR THIS TO BE REPAIRED. Actually the exercise does me good, I guess that makes this another POSITIVE.

Alan (8/5): Great Value for the Price - Great location, free parking. Was undergoing some improvements but didn’t disrupt my stay. Room was clean, bed comfortable and housekeeping was good each day. Didn’t realise rate included breakfast.
Maureen (8/5): Pleased, overall - I was pleased overall with the hotel, bearing in mind the disruption caused by the refurbishment. The staff were friendly and efficient, especially at breakfast - a delicious, varied meal (although the toaster needs an upgrade!).
Stephen (6/5): not sure i’d book again - The hotel is very very tired. There are posters displayed apologising for the condition & outlining that they are upgrading the hotel. I couldn’t see any signs of building work but hopefully it is upcoming soon. Some people in our group had to change rooms due to the state of the room. Our room was ok. Breakfast was fine & reception staff were very pleasant & helpful

heera (2/5): Worst hotel stay for the year - The hotel is in renovation mode, the room was very disgusting, the window was broken so as the bathroom room, There was this weird smoke smell in the whole corridor. After the horrendous night, I thought the breakfast would be at least okay but I was so wrong. All they had was eggs and cereals. I was fuming at this point, They should shut this place until the renovation is complete.

Verified traveler (8/5): Never been in East Kilbride! - The Bruce is being refurbished and it does need it. It was comfortable the staff were pleasant and the price was excellent. stayed on a dinner bed and breakfast and it was excellent value for the money we paid.
