Harriet (10/5): We had a delightful getaway at the Goodstone. - Our suite was so charming. It was clean, well stocked and comfortable. The food was delicious and we enjoyed exploring Middleburg. The only downside was that we visited Monday and Tuesday, and many businesses were closed.

Alex (10/5): - Our family had such a great time here a few days after Christmas. The staff were fantastic and so kind to us during our stay. We also had a phenomenal dinner and were able to walk 50 feet to our room right after. We are really looking forward to coming back when it gets warmer to see the changing of the seasons and experience the pool and wildflowers. Our farm tour with Faith was awesome for our young boys too - can't wait to see everything in the warmer weather!

Richardson (8/5): - Beautiful grounds, very clean and comfortable individual cottages, staff was friendly and helpful. Nice touch was having the wood burning fireplace in the smaller sitting area ready to be lit on a chilly fall day. Would recommend the Inn to friends. It's especially a nice getaway place for couples. A couple of suggestions--upon check in, recommend property alert guests to issues within the cottage. For instance, the gas fireplace in the larger living area was not working. Would have been nice to use it during rainy evening. We learned that the fireplace was not working after a couple of attempts to use the remote, and seeking assistance from guest services. Walkway lights between the cottage and parking area are solar based, which we learned after highlighting safety concern to staff. We relied on our phone lights to get to the car safely.

Jake (6/5): An idyllic stay (if everything goes right) - A beautiful property with extensive grounds managed by a warm staff. Property is dependent on old power lines and well water. Downed trees from wind storms knocked out power to the whole property which consequently cut off ALL water to impacted rooms (no sinks, showers, toilets). Different impacts across the property and a lack of round the clock staffing led to confusion about if power had been restored. Power was out for approximately 15 hrs in the main house preventing meal service. Other parts of the property experienced burst pipes and fire alarms throughout the night. Despite reports that this had recently happened in a similar storm the previous week there did not seem to be back up generators to minimize impacts to guests. Compensation was minimal considering impact and cost of the rooms All that said the staff who showed up in the morning also expecting to have had the power restored were professional and accommodating throughout.

Monica (8/5): Astonishing property. - The property is absolutely gorgeous. The rooms and houses are really pretty. Beds are small. Avoid the restaurant. The bar is great and have a snack but do not stay for dinner. Extremely expensive and awful food. There are very good restaurants close by.
Lewis (10/5): - The meal was sophisticated and delicious yet complicated to order, not presented in a way that you fully understood what you were about to receive.. For example, I ordered Foie Gras and duck brest. Both were sophisticated and well done but at the same time,not as good as I have had at other restaurants. Yet similarly priced. However, I might well return to this hotel again and believe that I would enjoy it more because it takes a while to understand how to operate within the property. it is a beautiful venue. And everyone is nice. It is a few miles from the heart of the very sophiticated shopping area and that it's a disadvantage.

The evening before we could not get dinner reservations so we asked if we could get a take-out order from restaurant. "Absolutely!" Food was yummy. The weather! Mother Nature decided it was more important for us to talk and reminice, rather than get exercise.
Nicole (9/5): Fabulous and Lovely. - The staff was super friendly and accommodating. Our room was lovely—they upgraded us without us asking. The food was delicious—breakfast was included with our stay. It was a great menu with great selections unlike some inclusive breakfast meals at less upscale B&Bs. They accommodated a few special requests and just made us feel welcomed and made sure we enjoyed our stay. It was our wedding anniversary weekend, so we wanted it to be lovely and it was indeed. The property is also gorgeous which made our stay even better. It would have been great if the spa had been open but I understand they were in the process of hiring a new director.
Thomas (6/5): Beautiful b&b lacking on value & execution - Charming hotel with history near Middleburg. The grounds are expansive and beautiful, but I suspect high overhead is driving the exorbitant prices. Seems the venue is geared toward weddings and events which I can imagine would be nice to attend if you weren’t paying. Extremely overpriced and does not meet expectations of a 5 star experience. Staff was pleasant for the most part, but inexperienced, inconsistent, awkward. Food was decent but should have cost half what we paid. At this price the experience should be near perfection, and this place falls short. Sorry, but we probably won’t be back.
314mitrab (2/5): Terrible Experience at Goodstone Hotel - I had booked a stay at Goodstone Hotel through hotels.com two months in advance for my partner's birthday, but our experience was nothing short of a disaster. Despite having a confirmed booking, the manager informed us upon arrival that the hotel was fully booked, without even offering an apology. The night before, I called to confirm our reservation and ensure that the restaurant had a table for us. They claimed they couldn't find our booking and asked me to email the confirmation. After doing so, they assured me everything was fine and said they would contact us if there were any issues. They never did. We drove 2 hours and 30 minutes to get there, only to be turned away tired and hungry. Not only did they fail to offer us a drink or any form of compensation, but they also didn't even give us a proper apology for the inconvenience. This experience was incredibly disappointing, especially given the special occasion. I have already spoken to a lawyer and plan to take legal action. I would strongly advise others to avoid this hotel.

dedoc100 (10/5): An amazing and unique Inn that is five star in every way! - Just returned from an amazing stay at the Goodstone Inn to celebrate our 49th wedding anniversary. GoodStone Inn is amazing in every way! The staff of the Goodstone Inn are all enthusiastic and proud to be members of the team and it shows in the high levels of service they provided to us. As we walked up to check in, someone immediately opened the door for us, assisted us with baggage and gave us a big and hearty welcome. We felt as if we were welcomed into a family. Check in was seamless and quick and we were given an orientation and map to the resort. Each of the accomodations are unique and decored in the character of the theme. This time we stayed in the Hayloft room and it was amazing. There is so much character in each of the accomodations yet luxury and amenities were underlying. Our accomodation was beautifully wallpapered with wonderful bedding and fluffy pillows. Every amenity was thought of including toothbrush, first aid kit, kreurig coffeemaker, amazing towels and italian soaps. It was a beautiful blend of keeping the decor yet providing luxury. We had a jacuzzi which was so nice and a wonderful patio to be able to relax and see nature at its best. There is a bar in the lobby and the bartender is a true professional yet whether you are ordering from the bar or just passing through, he greets each guest and made us feel very welcome. The main restaurant is stunning and is entirely windows to make us feel that we are dining in the middle of nature. The menu is an amazing menu but this time due to another committment we did not dine for dinner but had breakfast this morning which was five star. Our waiter was fantastic and was only interested in how in every way he could please us and make our dining experience special. I wife got an omelette and said she had never had such well tasting eggs and it was prepared to perfection. They have fresh squeezed orange juice and I got yogurt granola which was outstanding. The grounds at this Inn are stunning with a very nice pool. It is wonderful to just walk around and feel at peace with nature. We are so happy we had a wonderful stay but the first thing we did when we got in the car is to see when we can go back. The Goodstone Inn has the perfect balance of a decor which captures the theme of the countryside with the luxury amenities of a five star property!
Hill (10/5): Exceptional - The property is very pretty. There is a saltwater pool with a nice view. We stayed in the Stouard Room, and it was a very large room with a huge comfy bed. It also had a sitting room outside the room. We had a storybook view off our private deck. It was very quiet and relaxing. We ate at The Conservatory, and it was delicious, and the service was a 10! The chef even sent out a complimentary appetizer. We ate a hot breakfast at The Bistro. I had the omellete day 1 and the French toast day 2 it was so good. This is a great getaway for couples or for yourself. It was very peaceful and it's not far from the town. If you like a lot of greenery, animals, and delicious food, this is it. I'll be back for sure.
takemetodisney (6/5): Wedding makes our stay and lots of our money unimportant. No peace this weekend - Booked this trip back in January to celebrate our 28th anniversary this weekend. Had lots of plans to relax at the pool along with a winery tour. Received a phone call the night before are stay that the pool would be closed from 2-midnight!!!! Right when we would return from our private driver tour and planned to lay at the pool and relax the rest of the day!! No time to cancel at this point. We scrambled and our driver was luckily able to accommodate our much later time frame. So, Friday we plan to spend laying at pool as well. All we hear is tent jackhammering for wedding, we get to look at high tops with plastic bags of table clothes all around pool, 80 chairs on the lawn, back and forth rehearsal, three sales tours, you get the point. We spent almost $2,000 for our two nights and had no peaceful pool which was our whole reason for coming. This morning we think, let’s go lay at the pool. Guess what? They removed all the loungers for the wedding and didn’t put the back; horrible!! Stallion Suite was perfect. Lobby and restaurant, beautiful. We had dinner at conservatory and decide to sit in bar after for a drink and a game. Two young girl employees were laughing so loud the entire time (just ask the bartender) there was no relaxation there either!! At pool an ice truck idled behind us for over an hour…. Noisy!!! Please tell drivers not to idle at pool. I could go on unfortunately….. just feel like this wedding made our money unimportant to this place this weekend. So disappointed in the amount of money we spent to relax and couldn’t.
BrettLP (10/5): French Country at its finest. - Just a wonderful property in the horse country outside DC. Large working farm, with several houses for lodging. We stayed in the Farm Cottage…also walked through the Manor House. Has a French Country motif…the stone and ivy are gorgeous. All, quite nice. We walked the 3 plus miles of trails around the farm twice….Easy with a little moderate level walking. We saw fox, hawks, tons of dear, heard fox hounds in the distance, Conservatory Dinner was also excellent. Visited nearby Middleburg which is a very nice small town to walk/shop.
Mark (3/5): No follow up from a “luxury “ property shows they don’t care - Wonderful My room was skunked at 2:00am-5:00am Dinner was awful, had an overcooked dinner and was told a manager would call or talk to us. Never happened. They forgot to take a credit card because I booked on booking dot com and the call me now less than ten times trying to track me down the next day.

The attention to details in the room, the amenities staff- Everything was the perfect vacation getaway spot. We had dinner and breakfast there. Food was delicious, chef did a wonderful accommodation for my wife who is vegetarian and the dining room are terrific.
phoebewillett (6/5): Needs some tender loving care and a new air conditioning unit - Firstly the staff here are lovely they make you feel like you’ve known them forever, the place itself is lovely the grounds are amazing, we staid in the mate suite which was very narrow and uncomfortable there wasn’t enough space and the air conditioning system wasn’t working, it was extremely hot so we didn’t get much sleep we mentioned it the the staff and they offered to move us but I had just flown in with three big suitcases and jet lag… we were told upon booking the pool would be open which it wasn’t but they allocated us two sun loungers and I did dip in the pool to do my spinal therapy, there was a wasps nest in the corner of the pool nr the steps so it was pretty swarmed with wasps, the price they quoted on the phone wasn’t the price we got at the end of our stay, the six course tasting menus was lovely but some of the wines didn’t suit and only a small amount being poured for $800 including the tip the meal for two people was extortionate I’ve had tasting menus in Michelin stared restaurants and it hasn’t been any where near this.. $175 each for the meal was ok but the wine was ridiculous especially for the quantity poured, the waiter made a mistake and gave us the wrong mini bottle of red to start with instead of the original wine for the meal so he deducted $25 off which was just as well or it would have been even more, the place itself is very tranquil beautiful grounds but all in all a bit tired..

254percya (10/5): Unique & Incredible Property + Experience - My wife and I have been to Goodstone twice now over the past few years (most recently for a wedding this past weekend). Both experiences have been incredible -- from the grounds (whether relaxing by the pool, enjoying a drink by the fire pit, taking in the incredible Virginian vista, or canoeing down the river), to the gourmet dining (its own 5 star experience), to the extensive wine list (as a lover of red Bordeaux, I felt very much at home...), to the tasteful & elegant accommodations -- we couldn't recommend Goodstone more. For those looking to get married at Goodstone -- don't hesitate. The wedding ceremony and reception could not have been more beautiful, picturesque and memorable. You felt like you were in your own fairy tale. The staff at Goodstone are also extremely professional, helpful and hospitable... from check-in to check-out and everything in-between. Middelburg itself is a gem of a place (a much needed bucolic escape from the hustle & bustle of NYC... where we live). If we could give Goodstone 6 stars, we would. Suzanne (10/5): A rustic chic getaway in beautiful Virginia countryside. - Beautiful property in lovely rural Virginia. The Hayloft Suite was perfect for a couple’s getaway. Everything was clean and comfortable. The staff were attentive and friendly. Dinner at the Conservatory and breakfast at the Bistro were delicious! We took a hike around the walking trail in the morning. The first mile was well marked but after that we were a little unsure. We eventually found our way back but the markings could have been a little clearer along the whole route.

LoEndMaestro (10/5): A wonderful weekend getaway! - Just returned from a lovely stay at The Goodstone Inn. We had originally scheduled this for our anniversary back in December, but due to a family emergency, we had to reschedule. They were extremely understanding and accommodating to us when we had to put the trip on hold, then eventually reschedule. We ended up going the weekend after Valentine's Day, and we had a great time. We stayed in the Hayloft Suite, which is in the main house, but pretty quiet and secluded. It was very clean, romantic, and well appointed. It also has a huge private deck with a great view, but it had snowed the night before and was pretty cold, so we didn't make full use of it, but it was a nice feature. We ended up arriving two hours prior to check-in time, but it wasn't a problem. They immediately got us into our room, and we had a nice relaxing afternoon before dinner that evening. Dinner in the Conservatory is where they really shine. I think they must have made some notes in our reservation regarding the unfortunate situation that caused us to reschedule, because we had reservations at 7pm and they had the best table in the house waiting for us...front and center of the room, right in front of the fireplace. It was perfect. Thankfully, they were still doing the tasting menu from Valentine's Day, which was a nice surprise. Every single course was excellent, memorable, and perfectly paced. The sommelier helped us choose an incredible bottle of wine, and the overall service was flawless. Breakfast in the Bistro is included with your nightly rate, and it's not some weak, psuedo-continental breakfast. You get around 6-7 entrées to choose from, and both my wife and I loved what we got. Again, service was top shelf. The grounds of the inn looked amazing, but as mentioned before, there was snow on the ground, and it was pretty cold, so we just enjoyed indoor activities. One minor thing I'd mention would be the bistro bar. I think it was a staffing issue, but we came down from our room about an hour before dinner looking to get a drink and wait for our reservation, but oddly enough, the bar was closed. It wasn't that big of a deal for us, as we had wine in our room so we just grabbed a couple of glasses and poured our own, but 5-6 other couples showed up for dinner looking to grab a drink prior, and they seemed a little disappointed. I think having the bar open would not only add to the overall experience but also be a tidy profit center for Goodstone! But the hospitality industry is still tough post-pandemic, so I'm not complaining. It was all hands on deck downstairs in the restaurant, and it was a truly amazing dinner experience. Anyway, we really enjoyed our weekend at Goodstone. Thanks for everything!!
willo592 (10/5): Anniversary Get Away - Staying at The Goodstone Inn was special since it was our 25th anniversary. We chose the spacious Mare suite. The concierge was kind and very helpful. We had dinner at the Conservatory restaurant shortly after arriving. We also ate breakfast in the morning at the Bistro. The food taste and presentation were outstanding at both restaurants. The bartender and waitress staff made it even more special for us. I am looking forward to returning soon.

Enjoyed the sunrises and sunsets and the walking paths. - The colonial motif, stone construction, good finishes throughout, kitchen and living room to share, security locks. Room originally assigned was on third floor of a cottage in a low valley far from dining area and very ADA non compatible. The tub/shower combo was hard to use and slippery when entering and exiting.
Janet (10/5): A favorite destination to stay and dine! - We were very impressed with everything. No one else was staying at the Spring House so we had the whole beautiful house to ourselves. The place was gorgeous as it was decorated for Christmas, was modern, (looked like it was just remodeled), and was comfortable and cozy with a fire in the fireplace. The bed was excellent and the bathroom was everything you could ask for. Dining at dinner and breakfast was delicious! Will definitely keep this place in mind for a spring or summer visit so we can take advantage of the hiking, birdwatching and pool experience. No problems or complaints.
Anne (10/5): Such a beautiful and peaceful getaway. We intend to return soon! - The breakfast was amazing. Their bacon was the best I’ve ever tasted! The yogurt parfait was top-notch, and I’m not usually a crunchy-granola kind of girl. Incredibly comfortable sheets and bedding, although at 5’5”, I felt like I could have used a little staircase to get into the bed, lol! Ice maker in kitchen was broken, but as soon as I brought it to staff’s attention, they provided bagged ice.
CapitolCat (4/5): So pretty but not everything it once was - Lovely fall weekend that we looked forward to for months. We went overnight for my husband’s birthday. Room in the cottage was cute and quaint. Yet, we could hear every noise from the adjoining room and the baseboard heat banged most of the night. I had stayed in a cottage several years ago, and I was disappointed not to have it stocked with water and pastries as it was on my prior stay. There was one water bottle in the fridge by the time we returned from dinner. No more bottles arrived in the morning. Most disappointing was dinner in the Conservatory restaurant. Atmosphere is very nice. Yet, the entrees were odd like Cod with marinara and linguine. Service was unpolished with plates taken while we were still eating from them. Final touch of a petit four was thoughtful but the taste was really terrible. Two members in our party spit it out. It is a lovely setting but the attention to detail has fallen off.
culehmann (6/5): Winners and Loosers - Goldstone definitely was a mixed bag. It has the feel of a place that is struggling to make its mark. We liked dinner especially the white truffle fettucini. Lovely ambience, nice fire, comfortable seating, good service, and a great oyster amouse bouche. There is a beautiful bar but when we arrived early for dinner to have a drink at the bar, we were refused service as "they were too busy with dinner". The farm is beautiful and you can do some stargazing there. The drive out was beautiful. Our accommodation looked like it was last remodeled in the 80s but it had a quaint charm. The night was cold and during the whole night pipes turned into percussion instruments from contracting. I had 3 hours of sleep. The bathtub wouldn't turn off. Breakfast buffet was at best mediocre, even the coffee wasn't worth a second cup. Level of detail was lacking at multiple times, be it the out if stock wine or the missing spoon at breakfast to stir coffee. In summary, for price charged we disappointed. We wish them luck in delivering the experience matching the charges.

We had a beautiful stone cottage with 2 bedrooms, living with fireplace and a fully equipped kitchen. The breakfast is wonderful with local foods. The dining room in the evening is a great place. The menu is fabulous and I wanted everything on it. There are many places to eat in Middleburg and this is one of my favorites.

olivia622016 (8/5): Nice place - I have been to the Goodstone several times. Following are my thoughts: Rooms are pristine. Beautiful appointments and design. Housekeeping is exceptional and unusually careful to detail. If you go for the casual dinners upstairs, go early - The kitchen runs out of menu items and you don't won't to be disappointed. Drinks come very slowly. The bartender seemed to be focused on those at the bar. Understandable, but... Pouring a glass of wine shouldn't take 30 minutes. Go to a winery, and have your own wine before going to dinner. Breakfasts are good, probably need a few different options. We were there multiple mornings and offered the same choices each morning. So, it was good, but can improve.

ANOUL (8/5): Needs to get back to where she used to be. - We have stayed at Goodstone at least ten times over several years. We summarized each of our first five-or-so visits as “the final result exceeded the sum of the parts”. Our visits were truly exceptional. But more recent visits have not met what we believe to be the criteria for a five star rating. During our stay a few days ago, a piece of ugly cleaning apparatus was stored at the the pool both days. We were in the Mare Suite and there were many tiny bugs in the tub/ shower. The wonderful young lady that served us at breakfast and dinner was not well versed in her job as representative of the kitchen ( but she was very pleasant, intelligent and conversational). The Adirondack chairs at the fire pit had not been cleaned and were victims of bird residue! The same was true of the croquet set. I could go on. In short, Goodstone simply no longer gets our fifth star. The attention to detail that earns that star is no longer present. Management should either step up its game or adjust their rating and pricing.
pcva456 (10/5): Great experience. - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Inn. We stayed in the Halyloft room in the Carriage House. The room was well appointed, clean, charming and had everything we needed to make our stay a lovely experience. The outdoor deck off our room afforded lovely views of the property. The dinner served at the Inn was wonderful and all of us enjoyed our meals. The Inn had something for everyone and was able to accommodate gluten-free with no issue. Stewart (Stuart?) the bar manager was able to craft several cocktails just to the taste of several in our party and the wine list was extensive. What a lovely experience all in all.
Beankitty2 (6/5): Pricey and not worth it - We were very excited to stay here for our annual Scrabble tournament and New Year’s dinner with longtime friends. Beautiful property, nice room (Stallion Suite) but managers were very inflexible for New Year’s dinner. We were given the choice of 5 pm (?????) or 9pm. Too early or late. The 9pm seating was later canceled, without us being informed in advance, Probably because dinner was $300 or more per person and more with wine pairings. So we argued to get in at 7 —- and the room was half full. Pretentious multi courses, some good, but overcooked pasta and almost inedible shoe leather beef tenderloin. I cooked better for Christmas. For breakfast, the espresso machine was broken, saving us from $10 lattes. Regular coffee is included. The TV in our room was near impossible to figure out and the offered pound cake treat was stale. Staff was willing but service was not smooth. We waited for a front desk person to check in. What we objected to most were the prices … it is insane to charge $25-$35 for a glass of wine and $24 for a five-ounce cocktail. The bed was comfortable, but the floor was not clean. And being told we had to breakfast by 9:30 am New Year’s Day? Luckily they were flexible, but we felt the cards were stacked for the owners’ convenience. Not sure we will be back.

Robert (6/5): Beautiful Property Underdelivers - Goodstone is an old estate, and there is a wonderful vibe of former luxury to it. The staff are very friendly and helpful, but there are not enough of them (or their management is lacking) to make your stay as luxurious and seamless as they would clearly like it to be, or as the price would suggest it should be. Some things we noticed: - delayed check in due to there only being one person available to show you to your cottage (most of the rooms are in small buildings you must drive to) - prix fixe menu at the restaurant was fine, but didn't bear comparison to other multi-course fine dining in the area - AC was broken in a 3rd-floor room, making it unusable - the room we were moved to was positively dowdy in decor, and also not modernized (not enough outlets, bad wifi, small vintage double bed, nails sticking out of antique dresser drawers ....) - lots of peeling paint and cobwebs, especially around windows There's no question that the estate has a lot of charm, but it's too obvious that the upkeep of it is a challenge. We had a perfectly nice time (the bar in the carriage house is fun, with elegant board games for your amusement), and it was neat to stay in a museum-like accommodation - we enjoyed exploring. But it was not the superlative experience you'd expect for that kind of property and that price.

Rachel (8/5): Lovely property, nice meals, room overpriced. - The property is quite beautiful... several buildings spread across a relatively wide area. We were in the Ambassador room, which is in the Spring House, about a half mile from the main inn. The house is very cool... several hundred years old and has two porches, a sitting room, and a kitchen for common use. The room itself was average... small and the decor felt dated (like 1990s dated, not 1890s dated, which would have been charming)... I'd say the room was overpriced. Dinner (not included) and breakfast (included) were very tasty... pretty standard fare. All of the staff we encountered were lovely and we definitely enjoyed our stay, but I'm not dying to go back.
Sandra (8/5): Perfect retreat from the city - My husband and I could not wished for a better place to retreat and celebrate our anniversary. We stayed in a beautifully decorated French country cottage and enjoyed the peace and quiet from the surroundings. Unfortunately, the kitchen was being renovated and we could not try the highly-rated restaurant, and this is the only reason why we have not given the highest rating. We plan however to go back to enjoy the full experience.

Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent Service and Food in a Country Setting - We stayed at the Spring House in the Goodwin room. The room was very comfortable and the jetted tub was a pleasant extra. The 4-poster bed was very comfortable. The whole house was very clean and cozy. The breakfast was so delicious and the service was so friendly. We had omelettes with homemade croissants. Everything was fresh and homemade. We also enjoyed afternoon tea which is complimentary and includes homemade baked goods. I love how we were able to strike up conversations with quite a few of the staff. We walked the trails one morning and it was beautiful. The only issue was that the walls are quite thin and not soundproof at all. We could hear everything. But it is an old house and everything else was impeccable. So Goodstone Inn still earns 5 stars!
Cynthia (6/5): Nice but a little disappointing - This B&B is very nice, but I gave it only a 3 overall for two reasons. First it's pricey and at that price point I expect more luxurious accomdations. While the room was nice and the bed very comfortable it was no grander than a $200 night room. Second the shower was less than reasonable in design. It was in a very deep jacuzzi. I'm 5'2" and had a difficult time getting in and out of it. The sides were at least 2 ft high if not more. The rain shower head on the side of the tub was almost too short to make it in the tub (and didn't work well). An older or disabled person would not have been able to use it. All in all the B&B is pretty, nice, and clean, but not a good value for the money.
