Guest Reviews
- David (10/5): - Enjoyed our stay
- Kimberly (8/5): Good amenities and busy pub. - It’s a nice place. Quiet after about 8pm, the pub restaurant is always busy and the food is nice. The staff are lovely and it’s just a nice chilled place to stay. It has WiFi and lots of parking. Bathroom is clean and has a good shower. :)
- Martin (8/5): - The Mill fitted in with my plans ideally ie. accommodation, food and a drink all under one roof. The rooms are in a slightly dated annexe but this is not detrimental. Clean, tidy decor and quiet with adequate parking spaces. Decent breakfast included in the price, plus a good selection of pub food for an evening meal. Staff were all helpful.
The only minor issue was very poor water pressure in room 13 (unlucky for me) - having a shower was challenging to say the least and I reported to the proprietor.
- Lee (8/5): - Good value stay in a spacious room. Bed was comfortable but the water pressure was very low which meant that the shower had very little power.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Did not sleep well at all ... - Pros: Hilarious bar staff!
Cons: Very small room with paper-thin wall; you can hear everything in the car park and people stomping above you. Not recommended if you are a light sleeper.
- Elaine (8/5): - Friendly helpful staff. Clean comfortable rooms. Secure gated rear parking area available, perfect for our motorbikes. Arrived quite late in the evening, left early so didn’t eat there, but did enjoy a nice pint of real ale when we arrived at 10pm. Great for an overnight stop to break our journey.
- j (8/5): Perfect location - Attending family funeral in Leicester. East to come and go. Lovely and peaceful. Staff very friendly and helpful.
- Phil (2/5): - Stayed in room 18. Whenever any room called for water the water pump housed close by made a loud noise with vibration. You could cope with before you tried to sleep but throughout the night it was horrific. Got absolutely no sleep.
- Jan (10/5): - Warm, clean and tidy. Staff topped up tea and coffee as required. Only issue was cool to warm water for sink in bathroom. Thank you
- Andrew (6/5): - It's the only green king pub I've stayed at where the rooms were cold and no way of changing the heating. The windows wouldn't shut properly and there was a noise all night from the external water or heater pump. I kept waking me up. Think it was because of where my room was so if you're staying it's a great place great value for money just don't stay anywhere near room 19 or you will be awake most of the night.
- Mary (4/5): Not an enjoyable stay - Absolutely awful stay got no sleep due to noise from water pumps then when we came to have a shower there was no hot water
- Rickie (8/5): - Food wasn’t as good as before and didn’t have what we wanted on the menu
- Stephen (8/5): Well done Greene King Inns - Really friendly Staff. Good food and bargain at low cost. Great Parking. Just a little noisy with busy road passing by had to close window during nighttime. On the whole great place to hole up if visiting Leicester.
- Jason (6/5): - Fairly cheap price for the area, however the water system in the block of rooms is extremely noisy! so when someone comes in from the pub next door at 11 and decides to have a shower, you will not be able to sleep and when someone has to get up at 6am to leave and decides to shower you will also not be able to sleep. Okay for one night i suppose but longer than that i wouldn't have been able to cope.
- Stephen (8/5): - The room was very cold on first entry. It took a very long time to warm up.
- Stephen (6/5): Put the heatets on for your guests. - The room was basic, but generally clean and comfortable. There wad a desk and chair, but no comfortable chair to relax in. However, the room was cold on arrival, and the heater which was labelled 'leave on' wasn't working. I was offered 2 alternaive rooms, one only had one heater, the other had 2. They were all off, so I chose the one with 2 heaters which were working and left them off an went to th pub for a drink. It was getting warm when I returned so acceptable. Breakfast the first morning was ok, but on the 2nd morning there was no yogurt of any type! So I didn't get my usual greek yogurt and fruit.
- Rickie (10/5): - Clean and good staff. Good food
- Rickie (10/5): - Excellent room and good staff and great food
- Verified traveler (6/5): Unhappy stay - Booked two rooms. One room had stains on net curtains and looked grubby.
Rooms were very cold, not enough heating.
Every time you used water in bathroom it was very noisy and again when neighbours used their water it could be heard!
Therefore a very noisy and disturbing stay.
- Michael (6/5): Ok at best - This hotel was ok at best.
The room I was in seemed to have a macerator nearby so whenever you or other people around, used the toilet, shower, bath or sink. The thing would kick in and make an awful noise. The bathroom door was difficult to open and close but you had to close the door as there was a bright light outside the window and the bathroom had a strange smell.
- George (10/5): - For staying while diving at Stoney Cove its perfect. Nothing fancy (which I don't really want anyway....) but comfortable, clean, wam and friendly helpful staff and a very good meal at the pub. Excellent value. I will be staying there again for sure.....
- Jane (10/5): - Was reasonably prices, nice and quiet, clean and bed very comforable. Very well placed for city and hVing facilities to eat on the premises was very convenient. Will return again definately.
- Peter (10/5): - Very good, plenty of parking, good food reasonably priced.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Excellent stay. - Friendly staff. Good value restaurant. Lovely comfortable clean room.
- Kenneth (10/5): We wouldn't stay anywhere else in the area! - Hotel staff were warm and welcoming, as usual.
Cleaning staff can't do enough for you to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
Bar is clean and comfortable, reasonably priced and a reasonably varied menu.
- graham (8/5): - The property is rural but right next to a main road. There is little around it but I knew that going in.
The rooms are nice and well presented but the shower is pitiful and the shower pump is so noisy.
The pub attached is ok but nothing special
- Alexander (10/5): Clean, spacious, good price, huge car park. - Good value for money especially considering the price, the staff in the adjoining pub (reception for hotel) were most helpful,
No frills but, clean, ideal for a stop off overnight etc, decent sized rooms, great bathrooms and merciful on the wallet,,, stayed before and will do again
- hilary (8/5): - Lovely refurbished room with a comfy bed.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room itself was fine, except it was freezing cold! The electric heater was not sufficient to keep the room warm.
- Karen (8/5): Clean comfortable value - Value for money. All rooms been updated. Room 6 very clean, bed comfortable and room warm. There are 2 heaters but only needed to use one as they really kicked out heat. Shower ok but would be better if hand held was not stuck in its holder and unable to lift off. Takes ages for hot water to come through. WiFi not good at all. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Meals in the pub are generous in portions and good quality. Would definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very clean, comfortable and quiet with welcoming staff
- Verified traveler (2/5): good location, terrible service - the rooms were very clean however service was terrible. we tried to ring the hotel for over 2 hours to say we would be checking in late, they never answered the phone and when we got there the manager had a terrible attitude and said there was no food left and proceeded to tell us a sob story about being short staffed. We then ordered a takeaway for delivery and went to get a drink whilst waiting, the bar staff didnt know what types of wine they had. When we went for breakfast the fruit juice jugs were empty, the hot water urn was empty, there was no butter, all in all terrible service. All the tables were dirty and the girl serving didnt know how to work the till.
- Nick (10/5): -
- Steven (10/5): Great place to stay - Only recently renovated friendly staff!!Stayed here before
- Gareth (10/5): - Great place to stay, quiet rooms, food next door good, pool table and sport on tv.
- shaun (10/5): - Friendly staff and clean
- Ian (10/5): - Lovely accommodation with friendly staff.
- James (10/5): Comfortable and clean - Fabulous value for money. Clean, spacious and comfortable. Really like the fact that it’s part of a hungry horse. Only slight negative is that the water is on a pump and is a little noisy. Saying that we would definitely stop here again and would recommend!
- Colin (10/5): MILL ON THE SOAR - Rooms at this place are immaculate and clean. Large tv in room. Bathroom fantastic.
The pub itself is second to none, the service is excellent just as the food they serve.
I would recommend a stay here if in the area. Puts travellodges and Pemier Inns to shame and is a fraction of the cost.
- John (8/5): Small mix up - Bit of mix up when we arrived key had gone missing. Given key to another room but was occupied. After 5 minutes at reception it was sorted Not the fault of the staff on duty in the end original room key found and had a good nights sleep
- Maureen (6/5): - The bed was very cosy, room basic but clean , needs updating.
- Elaine (10/5): Very enjoyable stay - Very nice clean comfortable room. Clean comfortable bed.
Perfect location for us visiting family.
Receptionist very pleasant.
- andrew (10/5): Excellent - Nice big super clean rooms and attached to a very nice pub.
Couldn’t fault it.
- kelly (10/5): - It was basic but essential enough for my needs
I will definitely use again
- John (10/5): - It was my first time here, the room was lovely an clean , the pub had a lovely atmosphere, staff was friendly.
- Kevin (6/5): - Very good everything I needed
- Paula (10/5): Lovely place to stay - Lovely friendly, clean and spacious. Food is great too! Plentiful and you won’t go hungry! Staff couldn’t be more helpful even did us a packed lunch for our course at Stoney Covey. Ideal location and plenty of safe parking. Would definitely recommend and would come again 😁👍👌
- neil (6/5): Very tired and dirty. - Food in the bar is typical to what to expect at a Hungry Horse, unfortunately the accommodation block resembled a 1980's council block, very tired and run down, dirty tea spoon, dirt wring in the toilet, very old Mira shower with fixings barely hanging on, thank goodness it was only one night.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Early check in as we had to go to a wedding and was not a problem. Very impressive service.
- Rona (8/5): The perfect resolution! - On the second night of my stay, I encountered an issue with some unwanted guests in my room. I notified the manager and this was immediately and efficiently dealt with. I was moved to another room and was upgraded for half the price. My family joined me on the next night and the room was opened up as an adjoining space for me and my family which worked out perfectly for us in the end. The manager was very apologetic and handled the issue very promptly and accommodated me and my family for the remainder of our stay. I would definitely come back again when we visit to stay here. Thank you for being so understanding and going the extra mile for me and my family.
- steven (4/5): Steer clear - Bathroom was horrendously disgusting, felt totally embarressed booking this and bring my partner along. Check the attached photos of mold and just plain dirty conditions. This place needs a full overhaul
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The Staff just make this place, an excellent Team, fantastic customer service and doing their jobs always with a smile. Thank you for a nice stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Unfortunately there was no wi-fi or TV signal in my room, but the room was very nice and clean.
The staff are lovely - friendly, helpful and courteous.
After a long day and tiring journey it's really nice to be greeted by a genuinely friendly face.
Definitely coming back!
- John (8/5): - Fine for working away given the current situation. Nice pleasant staff
- Verified traveler (8/5): would recommend just needs a little tlc - Lovely hotel, convenient, staff are great just a few niggly maintainance issues. Exterior Doors don’t fit properly, in winds they rattle and you can see light at the side, heating was very hit and miss, hot water in shower wasn’t hot! I will be staying again without doubt.
- Petr (8/5): very good for price which you have to pay - spacious room & bathroom (bath, not only shower), comfortable bed, friendly staff
just smell in bathroom?
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The rooms in the annex really need some updating especially the bathrooms.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The room we stayed in was dusty all over. The glasses had marks from previous guests and dust on too. There was dead flies on the window cill.
Above the doorway too our room was covered in cobwebs and spiders.
- Rekel (4/5): Disappointing first booking with hotels.com - I wish I had checked the bathroom when I first entered the room. I was in a hurry and literally dropped my bags off and turned tail. Had I checked the bathroom I would have been straight down to reception to request another room. For those of you considering a stay here definitely avoid room 17. The room had a strong overly sweet odour as it it was an air freshener trying to mask the smell of smoke or vomit. It was strong enough to make me cough most of the night.
The bathroom was straight out of a 1980s hospital bathroom. Grit on the floor a stained bath and a chipped sink complete with hair. The shower was a tepid trickle. With the state of the bath I felt cleaner when I got in than when I got out.
The bed was unforgiving in any position and the pillows were cheap with no give. I am not surprised I wasn’t asked how my room was upon check out. I would have been ashamed to ask how anyone staying in that room had a comfortable night. I have stayed in cleaner and more comfortable hostels.
I have booked another hotel with hotels.com and I am genuinely worried that I have been miss sold on the standard. I have used other booking sights before and always been happy that the descriptions and ratings were fairly accurate.
- David (8/5): - Friendly staff, got there late but still able to get food, room was comfortable and clean, needs a bigger tv
- Chris (8/5): Our stay - Hotel was nice and staff wrre too. The rooms had an odd "peaty" smell though.we had friends in other rooms and they said theirs also had the same odour.
- derrick (10/5): Good value & location for M1 - Good location for M1,excellent reception & parking Enjoyed food & will stay again.Good value for the money
- Mark (4/5): Visit to Mill - Pub was closed for refurb , so no meals or breakfast , rooms need a refurb
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Hotel tired but it was very cheap. Full English Breakfast for under £5!
- Lindsay (8/5): - Nice room and staff
- nick (4/5): - Just needs a good revamp ! Breakfast was terrible
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room itself was lovely, the bathroom was.....functional and let it down a little bit
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The room and public areas are very tried and in desperate need of a refurbishment
- nigel (2/5): Shocking and outdated rooms - The place is like faulty towers on checking in at reception it was more like a room full of rubbish . Rooms very average the bathroom shocking the shower dribbled the toilets enamel was all eroded away leaving the toilet looking dirty .On the morning breakfast was 8am as we was told by reception staff . When we walked over to the pub where breakfast was served it was shut !!! Other customers were there also we knocked on the doors no answer . At 0820 we managed to raise a member of staffs attention who informed us they are running late won’t be ready till 9 am !!!!
I am so glad I never pre paid for breakfast we would if lost out we couldn’t wait as we had to leave before they belatedly opened due to another place we had to be .
Poor no very poor yes letter of complaint has been sent to Head office we shall see what is said .
- tracey (4/5): Good location - Food dreadful appeared to be microwave heated
Rooms ok but bathroom and toilet dirty
- Sean (4/5): Not great - Wi-fi was hopeless and there is hardly any mobile phone signal so made the stay very difficult. First room they gave me smelled of smoke but they did find an alternative that didn't. Food wasn't great either. Think they need the feedback so as to take some actions to improve...
- Chris (4/5): Budget Hotel near Stoney Cove - Upon check in staff did not have our reservation. Denise the staff member checking us in was rude and less than helpful, until a manger came to sort things out. They had magically had another customer with the exact same name as me check in before us, then we were given room keys to a room that was already occupied. Had to return to the Bar for a different room #, once this was completed we were okay. It's a budget hotel that will do for a night or two, but I would not take my children there overnight. Upon check out staff attempted to charge us more than we were quoted on Expedia, and at first the staff member told us that that was the price she had and not willing to budge. It was not until 3 different mangers came by to sort things out. So I was happy to end up paying what I was quoted, but I would by no means recommend this hotel. Pub staff was great and food was pretty good aswell.
- Sam (4/5): A dive ! - Hotel room dated and in dire need of refurbishment. Bathroom suit has lost most of its enamel, shower curtain dirty, toilet blocked. Room felt grimy, stunk of sewage and engrained smoke - got no sleep. Had booked for two nights but couldn’t face staying a second night. Overpriced for its condition. Didn’t eat at the adjoining pub so can’t comment but was charging £15 each for breakfast. Manager was good enough to give us a full refund, so no hard feelings.
- JM (4/5): Disappointing - The staff was friendly and accommodating but the room was very dirty...full of spiders, webs and dirt. Badly in need of updating!
- Ian (8/5): Average accomadation with nice staff - Pub good great beer and above average food at very reasonable prices.
Room.... bedroom pretty good but bed too soft for me, bathroom tired required cleaning of window and bellow sink unit and a fresh coat of paint wouldn't go amiss. Cracks in base of bath and sink and toilet looked like they were previously grey as their were large chips in the white coating.
- Verified traveler (6/5): room nice - bathroom lets it down a lot needs refurbishment, our door lock didn't work!! we had to put chain on but anyone could of got in when were out. Asked for more tea/coffee ect to be put in our room as there was 3 of us but only 2 cups, housekeeping didn't do this so was unable to have a brew and had to wait till someone was in pub to get some. The young lady who we dealt with was lovely and helpful, she apologized for everything. We had breakfast there unfortunately it wasn't as nice as picture in menu.
- Mark (8/5): - Pleasureable stay
- anne (6/5): Regular stay - We have family close by so have been coming to hotels in this area for years. This hotel is disappointing as the bathrooms need a big upgrade as they just re enamelled last time and it's chipped and very dated, our toilet was black !!!! Not nice and we have to have an open mind as my husband got bitten the first night so there may be some other occupants in the bed with you. T.V. Bit on small side 16in and no biscuits this time with the complementary tea/coffee. Standards slipping.
It's a stop over and as we try but cannot get into the Premer Inn in Hinckley says it all. Hopefully they will look at I movements in their bathrooms this year.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good and not so good ! - Room was nice and warm, clean bedding and towels.
Furniture very tired looking, and bathroom fittings stained and chipped.
However very comfortable bed, and because we were visiting relations convenient location. OK for one night stay, but probably no longer.
- Carolynne (8/5): Just ok - The place is quite tatty and scruffy...such a shame because it has fab potential. The staff are clearly unhappy and the place needs a good spruce up. I would go again as we got a good deal..£41...but I wouldn’t pay much more
- Laura (10/5): - Always book here and always have a pleasant time would defo recommend
- John (8/5): - Good for overnight stay food good bed comfortable
- Verified traveler (6/5): Disappointing. - Service was very bad in the pub and staff seemed more interested in chatting than actually serving anybody. Room was OK but needed updating.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Room was fine for one night stay, very warm too. - Room fine, bathroom clean and tidy. We had room on first floor, up steep concrete stairs.rest
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We had an overnight stay, which was very pleasant.
