Guest Reviews
- Roger (10/5): a very pleasant and comfortable stay. - the staff were very friendly and very efficient, the room was always clean and very comfortable .
- Emma (10/5): Would absolutely stay here again. Great room, parking, lovely food, and fantastic staff that went above and beyond. - We had some last minute changes due to a medical emergency and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us, even though they didn’t have to. They were amazing! Absolutely nothing. They were brilliant.
- Dimitri (8/5): -
- Filion (9/5): Highly recommend - Family feel. Amazing staff who makes you feel really comfortable. Outstanding food
- Patrick (9/5): -
- MELANIE (9/5): Bath, ageless beauty. - Large room and bathroom with warm towel rack. Bed was very comfortable. Quiet at night. Loved having a fridge, glass bottled water. Staff very accommodating. Restaurant was excellent. A bit of a walk with luggage from railway.
- Ashleigh (10/5): Lovely hotel, friendly staff, amazing food and worth every penny, - We had lunch when we arrived and it was very nice and perfect after a long drive. The Breakfast was amazing and perfect way to start the day. We had dinner on the last evening and the menu was nice and I had the fish and chips and would recommend. The hotel has a lovely bar / restaurant with welcoming staff and nice atmosphere and we were luck that the weather was nice and could enjoy the sun in the garden area. It was quick to check in and the radio in the room is a lovely touch as it was nice to listen to music in the morning while getting ready. All the staff were friendly and could not do enough for you. The location is good but there is a steep hill to walk into Bath but there are regular busses with a stop right outside so if you can not walk it is easy to jump on a bus. Easy parking in the carp park behind the pub. There was nothing I did not like I would stay here again and would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Bath.
- Collymore (10/5): - Great location.
Just a 10 min walk into the city centre although uphill on the way back.
Lovely room, spacious.
- Paul (9/5): Great place to stay.Easy access to centre of town.Food was excellent and staff very friendly and obliging. - Very charming, great location and food was excellent Shower could have worked a bit better.Although it could also be operater error,as we are not familiar with this type of tap setup.
- Charlotte (8/5): -
- Scott (10/5): Convenient location and comfortable accommodations with very nice restaurant/bar. - The room was attractive and spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. The restaurant and included breakfast were excellent. We had dinner there as well, and it was delicious and the service was great. Very convenient location for walking into the town, and on site parking was a big plus. Great place to stay! Everything was lovely.
- Robert (9/5): -
- Lisa (7/5): Good location, decent size room - Staff friendly. Decor good. Room size food. Fridge in room with water. Tea and coffee in room plentiful. Mattress comfortable Woke early with deliveries and bottle recycling. Pillows uncomfortable. Hot water intermittent. Quite dusty under bed.
Location is good, 10-15 mins downhill and therefore uphill on way back which less mobile people may struggle with. Also way down went under a underpass ok in a couple but would be a bit wary if single female.
Decepcionante.
- Rosie (8/5): - Loved the decor and all the William Morris. There were two female staff that were particularly lovely and helpful, I think they might have been the managers. Bar staff were more disinterested.
Liked the supply of games in the pub. Restaurant food was good too.
Price was great, probably partly reflected in the walk into Bath and the busy/noisy road, but these are things you take into account on booking. Overall, definitely worth the money. The day we arrived, there were a few small things in the room that were missed. This included one of the two glasses being dirty, only one small bottle of water in the fridge and rubbish in the bin. Day 2 these were all changed / replaced. Overall cleanliness was fine though.
- Plauto (8/5): Voltaria a me hospedar sen dúvida - Bem localizado
Quarto confortável e atendimento satisfatório
Limpeza e conforto custo-bebeficio muito bom
Café da manhã excekente Nada a declarar
- Ashley (10/5): Great sized room with top view - Parking was included and great meals eaten particularly breakfast included All good
- ivan (9/5): - Lovely rooms , great breakfast and very friendly and helpful manager It was slightly expensive
- Corinne (10/5): Perfect stay and location. - Excellent accommodation, comfortable bed and lovely big bathroom with great shower. Cosy pub vibes.
- Garry (10/5): - Comfy bed
Tea/coffee facilities good
Clean Small car park
Food overpriced
Could have included breakfast for the price
- Victoria (10/5): -
- Linton (10/5): -
- Kathryn (9/5): Comfortable stay - Comfortable room with everything I needed for an overnight stay.
- Sportsterphil (8/5): Stay in Bath - Easy to park and close to the city centre. Large room very comfortable. Decor is a little dated and tired.
- Jane (9/5): We loved the rooms and the food, and would certainly stay again if visiting Bath - Great room. Convenient location. Very reasonable price for Bath. Last orders were early, catching us out when we returned after a concert, and even as hotel guests we weren't able to get a drink to take to our room. Had we known we'd have stopped by an off license on the way back.
- Rose (10/5): Dreamy Honeymoon Stay - This place was amazing for our honeymoon! Big cozy room in a great location that’s very quiet. The restaurant is right downstairs which made it easy to pop down and grab a bite or drink.
We drove to the inn but mainly used the bus to and from downtown bath. The hill getting back to the inn from town is rather steep so highly recommend the bus when you’re too tired to do the hike.
We loved it and would definitely stay again! It was perfect!
- Mahmoud (9/5): - Schönes kleines Hotel
- Tanya (8/5): -
- Claudia (10/5): Gemütlicher Retrolook, absolut zum Weiterempfehlen. - Sehr liebevoll eingerichtetes Zimmer. Nichts.
- Gary (10/5): -
- Sean (8/5): -
- Simone (10/5): Fabulous - Loved the bath in the room, exactly what was needed after a day exploring. The prix set dinner menu was great value and very delicious and the staff were all super friendly. Could have had better tea.
- Samantha (10/5): -
- FLAVIO (10/5): -
- Rachael (10/5): - A really enjoyable stay with our two children. The room was perfect, spacious, stylish and quiet. Breakfast was delicious. Great location to the city of Bath. Thank you. Na
- Dawn (7/5): -
- Lucinda (6/5): -
- Stephanie (10/5): Perfect getaway. - The room was stunning. The bed was super comfy, the bath was great. The room was spotless. Loved the cute radio.
The menu was tasty and each dish beautifully presented and the breakfast was also of great quality.
Each team member we encountered was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Everything was great.
- Jacqueline (9/5): Our favourite - Our favourite hotel on our trip. Comfortable, clean, well stocked. Large bathroom, great shower pressure. Not much parking.
- H Rob (8/5): Honeymoon in Bath - Friendly staff, comfortable bed, great breakfast. Drain smell in shower.
- Tallulah (10/5): - The property was clean, quite and cosy
- Marcia (10/5): - Great breakfast with lovely staff
- Kerrie (4/5): Lovely staff, unfortunately cannot Sam the same for the property - Location Shabby looking from the outside, room was very disappointing. Not particularly clean and below par on quality of finish on rooms. Breakfast and evening meal pretty average.
- Laura (9/5): - Lovely spacious room
Clean
Friendly staff
Good parking
Good choice of breakfast options
There was no mention of a bath so this was an additional bonus for me Wasn't an issue more of a personal preference but the sausages tasted more plastic/strange consistency
- Becky (10/5): - Just outside of Bath so a great location with free parking! Beautiful rooms, was lovely to have a bath in the room but also have a great shower in the bathroom. It was a comfy space, with everything you could ask for. Staff were really accommodating and just really lovely. Would highly recommend
- Andrew (8/5): - Location - Bear Flat and by a bus stop Free parking
Comfortable rooms
Good beer selection
Professional staff
- Marianne (7/5): -
- Warwick (10/5): -
- Claire (9/5): Lovely cosy room and exceptionally friendly and welcoming staff. Only a mile walk into city centre -
- Rachel (10/5): - Location is great, an easy walk to the centre of Bath.
- Deborah (10/5): Delightful- well with staying there . - Very clean . The room was beautifully decorated with a roll bath in the room. A modern bathroom with lovely toiletries available.
We had a fridge in the room with complimentary water. Tea and coffee available as well as a coffee maker.
Staff were superb. Really friendly and accommodating.
The pub and restaurant were great as you didn’t need to leave the property if you didn’t want to.
Breakfast was delicious . Nothing to complain about!
- Kelly (10/5): -
- charlie (7/5): - The rooms are lovely The booking info did not state that it was an inn rather than a hotel so we were a bit disappointed when we turned up and found we were staying on top of a pub
- Joanne (10/5): Absolutely pleasure. - Beautiful rooms , great facilities and very new and clean. I couldn’t fault this hotel.
- Katie (9/5): - Very comfortable spacious room & bathroom with a bath The meal in the restaurant below was awful, so didn’t go for the breakfast in the morning
- Elizabeth (9/5): - Great location and price. Lovely room
- anne (10/5): A lovely stay to visit Bath, the Bear had lovely staff and breakfast - Very comfortable stay with a bus stop located right outside.
- David (6/5): staff were pleasant but I did not have the opportunit to raise the issues at the time as nobody was - Size and decor of the room The room was very hot, a/c only produced heat so I had to open a window to cool down and the road outside is very noisy. Toilet poorly fixed to the floor and the hand wash basin was partially blocked. Food was listed as available until 9pm but when I arrived shortly after 8pm food had stopped. Local thai and fish and chips were all closed.
- Stephanie (10/5): Fab stay lovely staff and beautiful rooms - Had a lovely dinner in before heading out to the theatre - told staff we are in a hurry and they totally understood and worked hard to get us served quickly - delisious food too. Great staff - and fun atmostphere in the pub. I had the most enormous bedroom with lovely bathroom.
- Anthony (9/5): Don't judge a book by its cover. Very enjoyable stay. - Outside it didn't look great, but inside it was very pleasant and the rooms were well fitted out and comfortable.
The food very good
Staff and pub very friendly which made for a pleasant evening after being out all day. It is only a 10 minute walk in to Bath and the bus es back are regular and drop off outside the Bear.
The other bonus was that the car parking was free and avialable. The television for some reason could not get BBC and the room would have been better with a chest of drawers to empty our cases and a sofa to relax on rather than a bath
- Amy (9/5): Really enjoyed our stay - The room was designed lovely and the staff were really friendly. Our breakfast was one of the best meals we had on our trip! Really looking forward to coming back and have already recommended the Bear to a friend!
- Rachel (8/5): Well presented and comfortable room - Decorated to a high standard, comfortable and really friendly and helpful staff A big match was on in the bar when we arrived so incredibly busy which made parking tricky and not the relaxing vibe we had hoped for. Much quite the following day so just unlucky timing
- nicola (6/5): Value for money, great staff. Pub with rooms - Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms well throughout with lovely touches. Tea and coffee quality choices, water in the fridge. Towels and bedding good. Strange smell, possibly weird air freshener in room and stairs. Over powering. Paintwork needed a refresh. Very awful bacon on the breakfast.
- Adams (10/5): Excellent and relaxing stay. - The room was comfortable and modern with all facilities available. Breakfast was delicious and the staff where helpful and friendly.
- Joanne (10/5): Very comfortable. Very pretty rooms . The staff were very friendly. The food was exceptional we stayed for evening meal - Clean and tidy . Very pretty rooms Good location
- John (10/5): -
- Carol (7/5): Very convenient for our stay, pleasant room. - Nice room, with bath in the bedroom. Nice bathroom with good looking shower - didn't actually use the shower because we were not there long.
Staff were friendly and welcoming. There was very limited places to put anything in the room.
Breakfast - there was only a cooked option, no fruit, cereal or pastries which you would normally expect.
- sandra (8/5): Lovely stay in a quirky pub approx 2 miles from the centre - The rooms were a very size and quite quirky
Bus stop into town outside
Parking
Breakfast excellent Dirty sealant around bath and shower screen
We had room at back on Friday morning delivery of beer at 6am on Friday Morning waking us up so no lay in even after a long journey the previous day
Limited evening meal menus
- Nicholas (10/5): -
- Helen (10/5): Lovely hotel, couldn’t fault it - Nothing at all to fault, ample feee parking. Greeted by a lovely lady who made me feel at home. Gorgeous decor in my room and spotlessly clean. So quiet too, slept like a log. The evening meal was delicious and well priced, and the breakfast was equally as delicious. Can’t comment on the location as I didn’t leave but I’d highly recommend anyone to stay. I look forward to returning
- Thompson (10/5): A surprising Gem close to Bath - The warm welcome from friendly receptionist, great big bedroom with comfortable bed, big bathroom also, all day food cooked for you so could have my dinner early, location good as regular buses from outside hotel to city centre took 10mins. Such good value. Nothing
- Suzannah (7/5): -
- Shirley (7/5): Review - Very friendly community pub and accommodation. - Friendliness of all staff. Very polite, courteous and knowledgeable about the immediate area.
Issue raised about breakfast which was immediately dealt with. The walls of our room were very dusty and needed a good clean, however, all bed linen, towels, bathroom were spotless.
No cereal for breakfast and the evening menu was average.
- Claire (10/5): Fabulous stay at the Bear, really nothing to fault - We had a wonderful stay in Bath and loved the Bear. From the moment on entering there was a warming and welcoming feel. The room facilities were great and the small touches were thoughtful. From the quality of the bathroom soaps to the radio on upon arrival. A real treat with a stylish retro vibe.
Breakfast was also simple, nice and filling. It’s the basic stuff that’s done right that make it a great place to be.
Staff were welcoming and Tom the owner was knowledgable of the area and really personable. Smiles all round from us and the them.
Absolutely will be back Nothing - all done and appointed very well
- James (10/5): Great staff and rooms - The staff were very friendly , the rooms were really comfortable and well equipped .
Would definitely stay again Lovley rooms ,great location and a very nice breakfast .
- Phoebe (10/5): -
- Grace (9/5): -
- Fredrik (4/5): -
- Martyn (10/5): First class. Will definately visit again. - Super property in easy to find location and short walk into Bath. Excellent rooms and great breakfast. Friendly staff in the pub.
- E m c (7/5): -
- Lottie (8/5): -
- Fiona (10/5): - Really lovely member of staff on reception who offered useful information for getting around and making the most of our stay, including giving us a number for a taxi which we used twice.
- Rhianon (10/5): - Beautiful hotel located on top of an old English pub. The rooms have so much character, the staff at both hotel reception and the bar are incredible. The food at the pub is also amazing. We absolutely loved our stay, cannot recommend this place enough!
A short bus ride down to the main town but Ubers are also super cheap. You can also walk down in around 10 mins but back home is uphill.
- Kat (8/5): Comfortable hotel in a great location with helpful staff, perfect for solo & business trips. - Great location, easy walk into town. Staff very helpful with recommending things to do & walks from the hotel. Room was nice & spacious, comfortable bed. Shower had a good pressure. Everything is nice & clean. The aircon was already turned on, great to walk into a cool room on a hot day. Parking was included, which was perfect for me as I was working in the town centre all day. Sadly the room smelt of cigarette smoke, I know it's obviously from previous guests staying in the room, not the staff smoking & the smell is difficult to get rid of. Marked cleanliness down only for this reason.
- Alistair (9/5): Friendly atmosphere with good food and easy access to the City centre. - A very well situated hotel with a community feel. The shower and water temperature.
- Latysheva (9/5): We loved the room. It was clean, spacious, and had a thoughtful, interesting design. It was warm (which is important to - 1. Cleanliness.
2. Size.
3. Comfort.
4. Design The website had outdated photos of a room with a bathroom.
- seydi_bey (10/5): Exceptional Luxury and Comfort in Bath - If you are coming to Bath, you must stay at The Bear. It is one of the most luxurious, comfortable, and friendly hotels we have experienced in the UK. We stayed in a Superior King room, which was one of the largest rooms we’ve seen by UK standards. It was beautifully decorated with great attention to detail — from the warm lighting to the radio playing as you check in, and even the charming bathtub. The room was spotless, warm, and extremely comfortable.
Our friends stayed in a Deluxe King room, and it was absolutely stunning — almost like a studio apartment. It was very spacious, beautifully decorated, and featured a large bathroom with both a gorgeous shower and a bathtub.
The ladies at reception were lovely, welcoming, and very informative. The food at the pub was also delicious. After staying in many small hotels around the UK, this place truly felt like ultra-luxury. We honestly wished we could have stayed for a few more days.
- sandra (10/5): Fantastic warm welcome, with a great location. - The warm welcome and the room lovely and warm and very comfortable after a cold long journey. The small extra touches, like the beautiful radio, very relaxing and felt like home. I loved the decor and the general atmosphere in the bar/restaurant, was a perfect place to eat. Parking was a bonus.
- Sonya (10/5): A perfect visit to Bath! - The Bear was great! Beautiful room, lovely staff and good location! Dinner at the pub was also delicious! We wish we could have stayed longer! Nothing
- Rachel (10/5): Friendly and welcoming. Would go back - Rooms were lovely, clean and warm. Pub had a great atmosphere and all staff were really friendly
- Joanna (8/5): -
- Tracey (10/5): -
- James (8/5): Good value stay in a a nice area, rooms comfy and clean - Parking was convenient and staff very friendly. Breakfast was pretty average, bacon over done and poor quality sausage.
