• Donna (2/5): - I couldn’t stay here with my kids, as I didn’t feel comfortable with our room. The hotel didn’t look or feel clean. Our chair in the room was ripped with no material on it, the bathroom was separate from our room. We ended up stayingin a different hotel for the night, when I returned the next day to drop off the key, the door to our room was opened.

• Shirlee (8/5): - All rooms are upstairs. The outer door is not secured with a lock but the rooms have new, secure locks.
• Elena (8/5): - This is very character hotel with lots of interesting artifacts collected by the ownwer over years, this is not typical hotel with a hotel service etc. If you are looking for a comfortable star service this is not a right place for you but if you are up to some adventure/or something memorable you will find it there.
• G (6/5): - Very interesting and historic old building with lots of old paintings anf artifacts in every room. The place was almost completely dead though on a midweek in July. Restaurant wasn't open and there were no other restaurants in this tiny town. The bar was closed when I attempted to enter at 8pm. The hotel room was basic but clean but I was disappointed by how quiet and empty it was.
• Vyacheslav (6/5): - It is interesting experience for sure. However, the general Hotel condition is not great. Most importantly, the towels and bed sheets are dirty, everything is covered with dust.
• Carole (8/5): - I liked that it is a historic old building and that it has an art gallery in it - lots of interesting art everywhere. Proprietor was pleasant, helpful and welcoming. As it is such an old building there are a lot of stairs to walk up and carry belongings, no elevator. I did not mind that but would not recommend to anyone unable to manage stairs.
• Mark (10/5): - Gilles was great checking us in and showing us around. The history in this place is worth the stay alone. Dave your pictures for your friends and family and not social media. This is a word of mouth place that needs to be seen to believed. Can’t wait to get back
• Rosely (4/5): - There were cobwebs on the walls everywhere even in our room. While the bed was clean, the restaurant was closed and there was nothing available for the continental breakfast in the morning … we looked twice to see if there was anything available.

• Robyn (2/5): - Not very accommodating, very dirty commons area, would not dare to have coffee or eat anything in there. No room in the little common fridge to put anything. It was filled with lots of old food. Two of the bathrooms were very dirty as well. The room was OK not much to report there. Saw very little of the staff who didn’t seem to be bothered. If you left your room door open, the cat would come in and make itself comfortable.

• Debbie (4/5): Night in an art museum. - This is a quaint old building. It’s like being in a museum. Art lovers will be entertained for hours. People are friendly and welcoming. The sheets were clean. The washcloth was stained. They should switch to dark colours. It may be the water. The room was dusty. This could have happened when the window was opened. Don’t expect fancy. It has a 70s laid-back vibe. We upgraded to private bathroom. That was Not clear on the booking site. Breakfast was fruit cups and pudding. Chill out and go with the flow.

• Ian (8/5): Small town delight - The front desk guy was extra helpful and made my stay. An old hotel that does not lack for knick-knacks. If you need an elevator or TV keep looking. I will stay there again.
• Ken (4/5): - When we last saw this hotel 14 years ago, it was very well-kept with a nice restaurant serving delicious food & drinks, and unique rooms with interesting artwork abounding. We came back this time to find the restaurant no longer in operation. The rooms are still unique, but the towels are old and thread-bare. The room was clean, but the ‘breakfast room’ and TV rooms were very dirty. The outside areas of the hotel have garbage all around. We should have stayed 14 years ago.

• Richard (4/5): - Decided to stay here because of the history and thought it might be interesting, but found it to be merely and old hotel with worn out furniture. Many of the rooms were not in use and full of junk. Arrived and was told that my room did not have a private bath but would have to walk to one down the hall (Not mentioned when I made the reservation or on the Hotel.com web site). For an extra much inflated fee I could upgrade to a room with a private bath. Stay was definately not what I expected from Hotel.com site. I i was in the asrea again I would not plan on staying here.
• Rikki (10/5): - The manager was super friendly and easy going. Our room was upgraded at reception and was perfect for us, even travelling with two dogs. The price was reasonable and the area is nice and quiet with access to the Trans Canada trail nearby to walk the dogs. The artwork is the coolest pet. A very unique place out of the way. I would stay there again and recommend to others.

• Doug (10/5): - This hotel is in a building that’s over 100 years old and it is not in the best condition. I like that, because most motels these days all look like they had the same father. Ymir isn’t even large enough to be called a Village. There’s the hotel, a small general store, next-door, and the bakery that hopes to re-open someday, and nothing more. The Ymir Hotel has an impressive life, funky and eccentric atmosphere. I found it intriguingly curious and an enjoyable reprieve from the cookie cutter motels that you can find everywhere. The innkeeper was a font of information and history. Among the other curious things about this in is that the office is open from 3 PM to 9 PM. He is outgoing, friendly, and enjoys spending time with the guests. I will definitely stay here again.

• Clifford (4/5): - This is a HOSTEL, not a hotel. There is a shared washroom. The rooms are only big enough for a bed. Our room was supposed to be 140sf with a queen bed. We had a double bed in a room that was smaller than 10 x10. Staff were super nice but stay away from this place.

The property is run down but clean.Eclectic and the thousands of pieces of art, antiques and pure junk may be of interest to some. Some fast food available at the store next door. Friendly staff. Steep and long wooden stairway to access rooms at second floor.

The room was clean, but the rest of the hotel is sadly not clean enough to consider eating there. We absolutely recommend it for inexpensive, fun accommodation, but be aware the common areas not up to todays hygiene standards.
• Sandra (8/5): Interesting, Old and rustic. Love the art. - If you're fussy about having a perfect hotel, this is not for you period but for us, we thought it was great. It's a very old hotel going up 2 dark old flights to stairs an older looking rooms, but the beds are clean.. It was actually amazing, the history and the art is very precious. The people are earthy and real And clever period Don't miss the amazing trails and the amazing beautiful river outside the hotel. No food around the town, so for breakfast, go to Salmo which is very close. Nelson..Fabulous
• Verified traveler (2/5): Worse than sleeping in the car. - Avoid. Hostel setting at best. I’ve actually stayed in far far nicer hostels. I don’t think I would stay again if it was free. Camping or sleeping in the car would have been a nicer/better experience.
• Brenda (10/5): - This hotel is very unique and filled with art, artifacts and everything else you can image. Only down side was the so not serve dinner anymore so must travel to Salmo. There is a store next door that has everything including awesome coffee for the morning.

• Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointing - It's a nice art museum. Prior reviews mentioned the owner/proprietor, whom we never saw. At least one local family was in residence at the hotel. Lots of coming and going from the room next to ours. Signs said "Absolutely No Smoking in the Hotel!" But, cigarette smoke was in the hallways and also came into the room through the window. The lounges on each floor had dirty dishes piled up, food around, and the small fridge was packed with family food.
• Ruth (4/5): - I am sorry that I cannot recommend Ymir hotel. While our room and bathroom were clean the rest of the place was not. I would not eat there if the food was free. This probably used to be an interesting place to stay but now the clutter and unsafe food practice is sad. There is only a convenience store for food . Buyer beware!

• Debbie (10/5): - An experience I would recommend to anyone who loves history and is an eclectic art lover❤️ An old historic hotel from the late 1800's, located in a beautiful little mining town from years gone by. Nothing is new and everything tells a story, from the hundreds of pictures on the walls, to the old doll on the shelf or the vintage lamp in your room. There is even a couple dogs and handful of cats that visit with you throughout your stay. Beds were super comfy, bathrooms located outside your rooms, little kitchen room with daily snacks, and super friendly hotel staff. No elevator or tv in rooms; a truly unique experience for anyone wanting to stay somewhere different😊👍
• Paul (10/5): - Hotel Ymir (pronounced Y-mer) is in an old hotel from the mining era. The owner has populated the inside with art collected over his lifetime. You cannot fail to be moved by this collection which makes you realize in a new way that art matters. The location in the BC boonies is also evocative & the locals are charming.

• Edith (4/5): - With my cane, we had to go 3 flights of stairs so we left our luggage in the car as the "bell boy" was just a kid and wasn't going to have him carry it either Then, we decided to sleep in our clothes because the washroom was down the hall and, due to a medical condition, it was necessary to go often...To register, I had to cross a bar that made me very uncomfortable. So this place was just not one I'd recommend, especially with kids, though I really liked the family running the place.

Not so great: the room with two beds contained only one good bed, plus an old futon. The restaurants had been closed for months (despite the website implying that they were open) and the "breakfast included" consisted of cereal bars and canned fruit. Also, the kitchen area was dirty. The little store with coffee shop corner next door saved us for supper and breakfast. Overall I am glad that I got to experience this historic place once, but I would likely not return.

No food service at the location because of Covid rules were in place. It was difficult to find people to work at the Hotel because many were collecting the CERB benefits.
