- Q3203PBgailb (4/5): Kingston Cottage is not what you think! - We just finished a Birthday Girl's Weekend. Our experience with Barnsley Resort was been almost a love/hate relationship. Our original weekend was scheduled in January. A snow/ice storm was in the weather forecast and it was very stressful for our hostess to get the reservation cancelled due to weather. The only option was to reschedule to another weekend. The house that was reserved was not available but the reservationist gave another larger house at the same price. We were very excited to have been rescheduled. (The storm did hit and we would not have been able to travel home until Monday). I had read about the Kingston Cottage and was very excited to see the expanded wet bar. Because the previous house had a full size kitchen and dining area it was assumed that the Kingston Cottage would have one. At the time of the reschedule nothing was mentioned about the lack of a kitchen or dining table. Imagine our surprise when we walked it and there was NO STOVE or Dining Table. There was a bar with 2 bar stools. The kitchen had a very large selection of cocktail glasses, plates and silverware. No coffee cups, dish clothes or towels , sponge, bowls, pitcher or items needed for mixing cocktails. The group who arrived early had to go to the beer garden for dinner when they had planned to cook dinner. There is an AWESOME Ice machine. The beds are comfortable, the porches and rocking chairs are nice and the seating arrangement is nice too. However, there were extra guests in the form of roaches. When we called on Saturday morning to mention that we had discovered the problem we were told that is unusual for the Kingston Cottage to have bugs. Our group believes that the Kingston Cottage is not rented very often and that explained the bug problem as well as lack of kitchen supplies. When we requested coffee mugs and a bowl to mix waffle batter both items were delivered promptly but still for the cost of the rental it was very disappointing that the items were needed in the first place. We had reservations for dinner on Saturday at Jules and the meal was delicious.

- Safari05485294335 (2/5): 2025 Christmas Brunch at Barnsley Jules Restaurant was a disaster! - We attended the first Christmas Brunch hosted at Jules, and it was the worst experience that we have ever had in the 20+ years we have been going to Barnsley. This is not what we have come to expect from Barnsley. The menu was sub par, the food was not prepared well and when served was not played well and cold. Soup was cold with no spoon provided. We would have preferred to go to the Woodlands where we have never had a bad meal. Jules doesn't even come close to matching what the Rice House had to offer. Grossly overpriced. Last year we attended the Easter Brunch which was awesome, but because of our experience at Jules, we will not return this year. What has happened at Barnsley over the years is sad, we have had so many great memories there.

We called in advance and they told us pool open and room ready…I had a massage booked so I went to that was ok. Our lunch was disappointing at woodlands as my husband is gluten free and we were told his tacos could be made gluten free and were fried. We had to wait quite a long time for our food and check. Ok so turn me around. Music seemed to be blasting each time we ate at woodlands and with large family groups it was very noisy . We stopped at Jules as we had reservations and the manager invited us to their event that evening. Ok hoping for a turnaround. We finally got our room and it was perfect. Delish cookies in the afternoon and scones in the morning were a delight. The dinner at Jules was beyond our expectations and so we ate there every night thereafter. The staff couldn’t have been more warm and kind. We loved it and can’t wait to return. Our last day we couldn’t shower —no hot water! Alas we still loved it and would return. This is truly a treasure.

- johnhN3579UL (2/5): Terrible dining experience at the beer garden and service. - We had 4 couples meet for drinks and a lite dinner. First you had to stand in line to order a drink and food. Only one terminal to order the food then you receive a number and take your drink to a table. We started with a pretzel that took 20 minutes to get, then went back for food. Big mistake. The wings were drowned in butter but tasty. The loaded potato was cold and dry even after the condiments. The “server” aka food deliverer did not smile once and looked like she hated her job as much as I hated the service. I went to refill the beverages at the bar next to where they take the food order and couldn’t get one of the three bartenders to acknowledge me for 5 minutes. Yes I timed it. When we got the bill it had the standard 20% service charge which I’m not sure for what. Another member at our table never even received her food because they forgot to put the order in. I don’t recommend wasting your time or money. Shameful to be titled a resort more like a dump.

- Avalache (8/5): First Visit to Barnsley Resort – A Relaxing Southern Getaway - My wife and I just returned from a 4-day stay at Barnsley Resort, and we couldn’t have picked a better place for some R&R. This was our first visit, and we stayed in one of the cottages cozy, charming, and well-appointed. From the rocking chairs on the front porch to the plush bed and comfortable living area, it felt like a home away from home. And thankfully, the A/C worked like a champ, crucial when it’s pushing 90+ degrees outside. The resort grounds are absolutely beautiful, with something for everyone: horseback riding, fishing, clay shooting, golf, hiking trails, a peaceful meditation garden, and even the ruins of the original plantation home that add a unique historical element. We spent a good amount of time lounging by the pool, which is well-stocked with towels and offers food and drinks from the pool bar. You can also rent a cabana if you want some extra shade and comfort. At night, the resort lights several fire pits where guests gather to wind down, s’mores and good conversation included. The one downside is the dining options. The Woodlands is the only full-service restaurant on-site, and while the food is good, the prices are on the higher side so plan ahead and definitely make reservations. There’s also the Biergarten, a casual outdoor spot, but it was closed during our stay and had a private event the one night it was open. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, and the vibe was a mix of families, couples, and older guests all enjoying the peaceful setting. Just a heads-up: the resort is a bit remote, so next time we’ll be sure to bring a few essentials with us. All in all, Barnsley is a charming, relaxing spot with Southern hospitality and plenty to do—or not do, if that’s your preference.

The entree list was very limited and priced above many other similar places. Our food was okay but certainly not outstanding, and one of our party had to wait fifteen minutes for his food after everyone else was served. He was comped a dessert. My $30 fish & chips was mostly batter, I had to hunt for the grouper, fries were good, as was the complementary bread. My wife's pasta was below average and salad nothing special. Her wine was all right but overpriced. 20% is added to every bill regardless of the size of the party. Overall a disappointing evening food wise.

- 469graceys (2/5): Review Title: Beware of Unauthorized Charges - I stayed at this establishment on May 30 and 31, and my experience was nothing short of a nightmare. Upon check-in, the front desk staff asked for a card to cover incidental charges, but instead, they ran my card for the full remaining balance of my stay, which I didn’t even pay for—someone else covered that for business purposes. I reached out to Renee on June 13, and while she did refund my money, I was horrified to find that the very next day, I was charged again! They processed my credit card without my consent, which is completely unacceptable. This place clearly does not respect their guests’ financial boundaries. If you value your hard-earned money and want to avoid unauthorized charges, I strongly advise against staying here. Save yourself the headache and look elsewhere!

- mpedhsu (6/5): Not as expected stay at The Barnsley - We visited the Barnsley with my son, his wife and their infant son. I have to say that the resort is underwhelming. It is advertised as an exclusive luxury resort but it’s below the standard of other luxury resorts that we’ve vacationed in. The value for the money is not there. Pros: The grounds are beautiful. There are multiple activities for families with young kids. It seemed ideal for a wedding weekend. Service at the restaurant was professional to some degree. Con:s: There’s much to be desired with housecleaning. Our rooms were not cleaned at all while we were there. The cottage where my son and his family stayed was dusty and the bathroom floors didn’t seem clean. The worst was that they found a roach hovering by the sink on their last night. They had to quickly pack and cover all their suitcases to make sure they don’t take any of these bugs home with them. There were only 2 restaurants while we were there, with one serving food buffet-style. The food was so-so, nothing special with the menu or the presentation of the food. Overall, the resort has potential. Management has their work cut out for them to make the resort match its description as advertised.

Brent at the Biergarten, Olivia at the Woodlands restaurant on two different evenings and at the golf course, Taylor at the Woodlands and at the Inn. Two other excellent events: the Bourbon tasting with Jackson and the Wine/ruins tour with Karrie. Their focus on their customers experience was above and beyond! The experience each of them provided is the reason their names are top of mind. My family and I have stayed at many resorts around the country and abroad and the key at Barnsley is the staff that makes this amazing property and its experiences a joy for all ages. We will be back hopefully soon!
- caneym2025 (2/5): Families beware - Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Barnsley Resort following a deeply troubling experience involving a security guard who falsely claimed to be law enforcement to my 7-year-old son and others. Despite informing local management and the Davidson Group’s executive team, leadership failed to take meaningful action. Instead of addressing the serious issue of an individual exhibiting potentially predatory behavior, they focused solely on his attire—directing him to stop wearing clothing with law enforcement insignia and to use Barnsley-branded apparel instead. The core problem—this individual verbally impersonating law enforcement to children, staff, and guests—was ignored. It was treated as a minor inconvenience rather than a serious breach of trust and safety. Families expect security, integrity, and accountability—not evasive leadership, deflection, and security guards deceiving children.

We vacation often in East Tennessee and North Georgia, and this place had recently caught our eye. And let’s be clear: the *property itself is stunning*. The architecture is charming, the cottage décor hits the right balance of rustic and refined, and the spa was world-class. The golf course? Absolutely beautiful—one of the prettiest I’ve ever played. But here’s the thing: the experience didn’t live up to the setting. Let’s start with the basics. Housekeeping was non-existent unless we asked for it. On day two, they didn’t even empty the trash. The in-room coffee maker was broken. We requested a new one. That one was broken too. The third machine finally worked—barely. The restaurant was underwhelming. The food lacked creativity and flavor—far from what you'd expect at a luxury resort. And the service? Uneven. Sometimes excellent and sometimes slow. Room service? Don’t expect anything close to luxury. We ordered dinner the second night and got a paper bag full of plastic containers and disposable utensils. It felt more like a budget hotel than a high-end resort. And for what it’s worth, that “picnic-in-a-sack” cost us over $150. The staff overall were friendly—except at reception. That team seemed completely checked out. Not welcoming, not helpful, and not informed. We also drive an EV and checked ahead to confirm they had fast chargers. They said yes. They were wrong. What we found were two tired-looking Level 1 chargers—basically useless. After two hours, we got an additional 3% battery and a charge (pun intended) of $11. The front desk shrugged. Literally. Thankfully, we found a real charger at Buc-ee’s nearby. The little things added up, too. No offer to help with our luggage, drapes hanging off the rods, paper coffee cups and fake creamer in the room, etc. Details overlooked that should never be ignored at this price point. **Bottom line:** Barnsley Resort has *enormous* potential. But it needs a leadership team willing to raise the bar, invest in training, and focus on delivering a truly exceptional guest experience. (They might want to study Blackberry Farm—or just read *Unreasonable Hospitality* by Will Guidara.) We ended our trip a day early and ate the cost. That should tell you everything.

- shannonmQ6893QP (6/5): Lots of potential, but falls very short for the price point - Lots of opportunity at the Barnsley, but much yet to be desired. We chose the Barnsley because it’s dog friendly, advertised lots of hiking trails and a 4-star hotel. Unfortunately, the stay did not live up to the expectations. The pros- all of the dining staff are amazingly friendly and knowledgeable! The food is also high quality and lots of diverse choosing. The Biergarten was only open on the weekend and we were able to dine once and it was quite nice. The con- the check-in staff wasn’t friendly and didn’t want to be bothered with questions about where hiking trails were located. No dog welcome bag/bandanas as described for the dog pet fee. To this end, we asked 3 other people and no one knew where the hiking trails were. We scanned a QR code in our cottage and it didn’t work. We found one trail and never ended up finding any others with lack of signage given how prominently advertised. The cottage was dirty and truly needs a deep clean to be considered 4-stars. The corners in the cottage near the ceiling had daddy long legs/bugs, water damage and paint peeling near windows, baseboards covered in hair/debris and towels had stains. The bathroom doors had obvious dirt and stains. We arrived Saturday evening and spent as much time outdoors since we weren’t thrilled with the room, but on Monday morning and then the remainder of our visit it was filled with non-stop construction noise, landscapers and traffic. It was hard to sit outside as it was constant buzz saws and landscape equipment. The only restaurant open was Woodlands and with the dogs we needed to dine outdoors but had to leave our lunch early because landscapers came to trim all the hedges in front of where we were sitting. Lots of potential here, but training of staff and choreography of visitor experience needs honing. While the cottages have been updated they definitely need a deep clean. It’s a shame the staff hasn’t been held to a higher standard given the potential to be a remarkable stay. For the price you can stay at Lake Oconee Ritz where the attention to cleanliness and guest experience is perfected.

Staff were everywhere but not intrusive. We loved the fire pits which burn in the morning and evenings. The variety of restaurants and the spa were also appreciated. The only complaint was that the weather wasn't really warm enough for dining at the outdoor Biergarten (we had dinner and breakfast there) despite heaters and a fire place. Nothing Barnsley could control. There are limited "indoor" places to just hang out for a resort of this size so be sure to pack to be comfortable out doors whatever the weather.
- 705knk (10/5): Great stay, beauitful grounds! - Overall we had a very enjoyable stay! This is probably the most luxurious accommodation in the area (although very price compared to nearyby hotels). We were visiting family near by in Cartersville and it was a quick drive to and fro. The grounds are beautiful, and the rooms are spacious. We stayed from Saturday through Tuesday the third week of March and the resort was very quiet and not busy (Saturday was the busiest we saw). The rooms were quiet and we had a decent sleep, although our mattresses were a bit soft. We had young kids and they enjoyed the resort too. The smore offering with a bonfire in the evenings were a nice touch, and scones with tea/coffee at the Inn were enjoyed by us all. We did not get to enjoy any restaurants or amenities, but stopped in the gift shop and golf shop which were nice. Resort does have bikes to enjoy on the property, although we didn't have time to use them! All staff we encountered were kind and accommodating!

- jsmithsteel (4/5): Diminished Customer Service - I have been traveling and staying at Barnsley Gardens since it opened in 1999/2000. Literally dozens of times, to include family events, scheduled corporate retreats for my company on several occasions, visited the shooting grounds and played countless rounds of golf and dinner reservations. Barnsley has always provided first class service and the amenities are 5 star. Unfortunately, I scheduled a trip in late December 2024 and had to cancel due to sickness. Because I was not within their 14 day cancellation policy, I was charged $288 of a $399 stay. the resort was not at capacity and had rooms freely available. I called to discuss the charge and was told I would be called back. After a week with no call, I called back to speak with "Terra", the on site manager. She informed me that Barnsley was unwilling to give any kind of consideration. Most disappointing and short-sighted given my travel history with the resort. I have taken my last trip to Barnsley and am sorely disappointed in their policy and diminished culture of customer service.

Our bathroom was clearly not cleaned before arrival (hair, soap scum, etc on walls, in corners, etc.) We had no paper goods (cups, toilet paper or tissue) and were not given extra pillows as requested. Calls to remedy this were ever fulfilled. We were in a house and the living room never got above 45 degrees. While the physical updates to decor are nice the service & cleanliness are subpar. Food was cold, old, or often "out." We have loved this place but probably won't return.

Amenities and activities are plenty - golf, sporting clays, spa, fitness center and pool. The family really enjoyed the firepits and smores and riding bikes all over the property. Overall a great experience. Pool was overly crowded and the food lacked the quality of the other facilities at the same prices. Fitness center is too small and cramped and when it's 100 degrees outside, it's the best place to get in a workout. Subtle tweaks here and it's a 10/10 all day.

- George (10/5): Wonderful - Wonderful experience always! This was our fourth trip to Barnsley. Please please please re-open the beer garden during the week and have more opportunity to eat. Only downside to this place is essentially you’re eating at one restaurant breakfast, lunch and dinner during the weekdays. It used to not be that way years ago. Also, it would be nice to have a the bourbon tasting machine in the lobby at all times since it is so unique and to also have bourbon tastings every night. Thank you.

There was supposed to be live music in the beer garden in the evening but it didn't happen. Our room had a shower that leaked water all over the floor. The ice machine on our floor did not work so we had to go downstairs. That machine worked but it was missing parts that made it difficult to use.

The sitting area near the lobby was very cozy, and we, as well as many others, took advantage of it. Roaring fire, games, reading, drink, coffee, etc. The spa showers and steam room were moldy. The showers were not cleaned on our first visit, but we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and try it again. However, the showers were not touched the next 2 visits as well. I know because here were empty plastic bottles left in the showers. The room we took was a king room. It was beautiful but had a small counter in the bathroom with no table in the entry where the mirror was located. Therefore, there wasn't a place for toiletries or make-up and hair items. It was extremely inconvenient, especially since the room next door with 2 queens had a large counter in the bathroom as well as a table in the entry with a seat to be used as a vanity.
