We enjoyed the bright room overlooking the Sidmouth Cricket Club. My husband enjoyed his breakfast on the first morning. The reception staff were professional and eager to please. Only received one night’s amenities kits and they were hidden behind a mirrored cupboard.

The bedroom was so hot and windows could only be opened a tiny bit . A good quality fan was provided in bedroom but it only circulated the already hot air . Although we really appreciated the lovely sunny weather, the room was unbearable.

- Johnjo42 (10/5): An excellent hotel with traditional values and wonderful staff. Our first visit but not the last. - This hotel is wonderful. We came as part of a coach party staying for four nights but we were all treated as individuals and no differently from independent guests. We had our own table for two throughout our stay and the food was excellent both at breakfast and at dinner. The hotel is adults only and, being out of season, most of the guests were retired people ( nicer term than OAP's!). The staff were very friendly and attentive. They are obviously used to working with older people and nothing was too much trouble, especially when looking after guests with disabilities. We had requested and were given an excellent twin bedded room with a walk in shower and a sea view. The hotel has high standards and requests that gentlemen wear jackets and ties at dinner although one or two guests who hadn't brought them were fine in less formal wear. Our luggage was taken from the coach to our room and vice versa when we left. The hotel is family owned and part of a small group of hotels in Devon and Cornwall. This really showed. I can usually find something to moan about when staying in a hotel but the only thing is that the hotel was too hot for our liking. Our bedroom was very warm even though there was no heating on and we kept our window open. I think it would be very hot in the summer. Only other problem was that the lift, which seems pretty old, broke down one afternoon although it was fixed in a few hours. The Belmont is next to the Victoria, another hotel in the group. The Victoria has many more facilities including a pool and spa and Belmont guests are welcome to use them. Many of our fellow coach travellers had been here several times before ( one lady 7 times before) which is a great recommendation.

- david622026 (10/5): Excellent Hotel - The hotel is ideally located on the sea front and close to the town. Whilst it is an old property it is very well kept with a high level of decoration throughout. The customer service was exceptional and quality of food very good indeed.
- Kritique12 (10/5): Nearly flawless - I would have two minor gripes with this quite magnificent hotel. The coffee was, in general, too weak and was never quite hot enough. This applied to breakfast and also the after dinner coffee. And secondly the breakfast plates were never cleared away quickly enough. These are very small tables that do not allow much room for side plates and cups and saucers. Everything else was exceptional.

- Cindy (10/5): We came for my father's funeral, so although a sad occasion, we were extremely well cared for. - The staff were lovely, ery helpful and always smiling. We had my father's wake in the restaurant and the service was faultless. Wade especially made it a very smooth experience and the food was lovely. We had scampi in the bar in the evening and it was utterly delicious. The rooms were very hot. We had to turn the radiator right down but once we had done that, it was quite comfortable. Some alternative pillows would also have been welcome.

We found the room and all the facilities perfect. Overlooking the sea and within walking distance of Sidmouth's amenities was a welcoming discovery and being able to use the pool and spa in the sister hotel, the Victoria was a special treat.

The little details that were added for the dinner in the evening of NYE - the balloons - were a lot of fun and the staff joined in too which made the night. The food was outstanding. The accommodation was also outstanding and the view from the room meant that the fireworks at midnight were enjoyed so much more. We could not fault the whole experience. The staff were genuinely interested in talking to us and knowing if we had everything we wanted or needed. We will return. The Casino Evening was fantastic and created a really joyful and memorable evening.

- PAMcCully (10/5): Luxury by the sea. - An hotel we have been visiting for nearly 40 years at least once a year. Service, quality of surroundings and delicious choice of food have never varied beliw excellent. Plus the position yards from the beach and the town centre couldn't be bettered.

The Bar / Lounge was perfect for pre-dinner / after dinner drinks. Dinner was of good quality and portion size ,my only small gripe was the slghtly basic vegetable offering .

- MichaelFaulkner (10/5): Birthday night away - First time stay for my wife and I. Have to say that the hotel is lovely, in a great position, and is a handsome building. The standard of service, by all members of staff, was first class, from when we arrived to when we departed. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was lovely, well equipped and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was excellent. The nicest touch was discovering a birthday card left on our table for my wife, from the team on reception, which was a great and unexpected surprise since I wasn't aware that they knew it was her birthday. A very kind gesture. I thoroughly recommend The Belmont Hotel as a great place to stay in Sidmouth.

- MICHAEL (10/5): Excellent! We shall return! - Ideal location, welcoming and helpful staff, comfortable room, excellent food. Also the lift was a great help as I have mobility issues. Nothing to dislike. The only problem was Storm Bram which confined us to the hotel most of our stay! It did at least make us grateful for all the facilities provided at the Belmont.

Sidmouth itself is a delight with individual shops catering for all tastes and the Belmont is well positioned to make the most of your stay
- Margaret (10/5): Just a lovely relaxing stay in a wonderful place. - Location central for Connaught Gardens and the town. Whilst staying at The Belmont I went to the Victoria to use the Spa facilities, excellent. There is nothing to complain about.
- Freedom790161 (10/5): A bit of genteel luxury - Nice to be well looked after for a couple of nights. Beautiful rooms, delicious food and excellent service. We took advantage of an offer, which made it a bit more of an affordable treat for us. The bedrooms were very hot despite switching off the radiators and opening the window, but its hard to get that right for everyone. As those who rarely go to such hotels a bolder statement about the dress code for the evening meal and the lounge would have been helpful - as it was we made good use of a local charity shop to buy my husband a jacket and tie.

It is advertised as 'Adult Only', so I thought it would be good for a romantic birthday weekend away. It was more like a care home! We seemed to be some of the youngest there and we're over 60. Heating on way too high!

The food is first class from breakfast to evening dining. Nothing is too much trouble. We had a fabulous few days and are looking forward to returning in the New Year.
- 181cath (8/5): Elegant timeless service - Visited the hotel for a 2 night stay, lovely sea view room. Staff are so professional, polite and keen to please. Food was very nice although the breakfast service lacked attention to detail with incorrect orders slightly spoiling the start to the morning. This is a well run hotel with excellent standards and a manager who goes round talking to guests, impressive!

- gregjh2024 (10/5): GregH - The Belmont is a classic British hotel that has retained a level of service that matches the best available. A prime location on the seafront, immaculate rooms, and a broad range of (e.g. Spa....) facilities, shared with its adjacent sister hotel. The silver service restaurant is very high quality, both for breakfast and evening meals. But it is the level of service that stands out. The rooms are immaculate and cleaned to perfection. The young staff in the restaurant are clearly highly trained and appear to engage effortlessly with the (...often considerably older....) guests. The lounge bar is a calm oasis, again with excellent level of service and engagement of the staff. There is a cost to the offering provided, so The Belmont is a relatively expensive stay. But you are paying for the quality that you enjoy and it is a pleasure to be there.

So clean, great beds - I cant fault the place. we used the spa at the hotel next door which was a nice activity for a rainy day. Lovely to visit surrounding areas and super position for access to the seafront and the town.

It is lovely to see familiar faces year by year, but also to see new young members of the "Belmont Team" who have been well schooled in giving good service to guests. - 386RichardR (10/5): Superb Place to Stay - My wife and i had a 5-night stay in September and we were well looked after at the Belmont. breakfast and dinner service was excellent and staff in restaurant had obviously been well trained and were ready to look after everyone's needs. Bedroom was very clean and comfortable. Hotel is nicely positioned in Sidmouth on the front and only a short walk to the main square. Highly recommend this adults-only hotel.
