Guest Reviews
- Heather (10/5): - The owner is absolutely the best 🙂 we feel like we are family now and feel very at home since the first time we met him and stayed there! He keeps the grounds very clean along with the cabins. He is always updating something! Very relaxing beach area and picnic areas! The other guests are responsible, respectful and mind their business every time we go. We love the vibe and area. Very peaceful ♥️ thank you to the owner for always keeping the place cozy and home feeling!! We will always be back!!! And can't wait every time!
- Lori (10/5): - The owner was very nice and the view was spectacular.
- Don (10/5): - Scenic Resort stay was good as the cabins had everything you needed. The surprise part was it's the absolute cleanest hotel or motel room we ever stayed at. The staff was very friendly & helpful.
- Carl (10/5): Beach Party - Very close to Huron Beach!
- Larry (4/5): - The location is the only thing this property had going for it. Dirty, walkways overgrown, trash around messy common areas, giant ants. Would not recommend.
- Will (8/5): - The view here on Lake
- Christian (2/5): - I will say the view from the beach is absolutely stunning and the owner is a very kind man which makes this review hard to write. The property is in dire need of updating and safety review. We were in Cabin 2 so it could be different in the other units but the smoke detector DOES NOT WORK, the extinguisher has no date on it, as someone who works in fire protection I would have to consider prohibiting entry to this location until hazards are addressed. We found empty beer bottles under the sink, dust on top of the fridge, fans, and lamp shades. The blinds on the right side of the door are broken and do not close fully. The wallpaper is outdated, the microwave is chipped, a light is out in the bathroom(left light above mirror) as well as the light in the fridge, the futon mattress is completely worn out, there was a burn mark on the table, the door had stains all over it, the bathroom is very small, no space on the toilet or in the shower so if you are above 5’6 you will be hard pressed for space as well as the window in the bathroom is duct taped. The recliner is stained and has a worn out cover on it. The chairs in the cabin are old office chairs, the 700 watt microwave has a chip in it and needs replacing, the filters on the window AC units were covered in dust, the beds feel like those of a 20$ motel room, very firm with fitted sheets that have lost their elasticity and thin blankets, crammed into small rooms. I would bring my own sheets/blankets/pillows. Needs major TLC.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Worn - I know all the cabins in this area are old. I'm in my sixties and they have been here since I was a kid, but some are taken care of better then others. If you're not spending time inside then it's doable. The Scenic Resort is tired. It needs maintenance on the grounds due to plants taking over and looks messy. The outdoor furniture is rotting, the rooms need to be painted if not updated and spots needing dusting.Oddly, our bed was comfortable. The shower is very small and a large man wouldn't fit. Personally, I wouldn't stay again, I would roll the dice with another resort because they are all old. The location is good and the beach was clean.
- Holly (10/5): Great stay, Great owner, Great views - Scenic resort is a great place to stay! The cabins are roomy and the beds are comfy! The owner makes check in friendly and easy. Hes so kind and I enjoy chatting with him when we arrive. This was our second stay this year and our 3rd visit is already booked for next month. The beach is clean and a great disconnect when you need a reset or a family vacation. Hearing the waves while youre falling asleep at night and waking up to the private beach right outside your door will have you feeling like a queen!! Several grills so you can support the local markets and enjoy your dinner on the beach or around one of the fire pits. I cant say enough great things about this resort and the owner. The guests are always respectful and fun to talk to as well. Thank you for the many memories weve made while enjoying a beautiful stay at an affordable price!
- MICHELLE (8/5): - The location is great right on the lake
The property served it’s purpose
Owner was very kind
- Kayleigh (10/5): - This was our second time there, its quiet and right on the beach which the kids love. Its clean and had plenty of room for the 6 of us. Will come back.
- Catherine (8/5): - Cabin was clean! Beds comfortable
Couch not so much. Staff very friendly
- Verified traveler (6/5): Slighly tired cabin - The location is fantastic, right next to the beach!!!!
The cottage we were give was in a somewhat dilapidated contition. Old furniture, non working lights, tired mattresses and sheets, ect. The shower cabin in the bathroom was to be handled with care, the water did not flow in addtition to the flooring being somewhat unstable.
The place had cable tv which was nice.
- Carrie (6/5): - Beautiful view, crappy beds
- Marcie (8/5): You get what you pay for. Beach was PERFECT! - We wanted a beautiful beach. We had no intention of being in doors except to sleep. If that’s what you want out of your stay, this is perfect. Decor was weird. Cabins are definitely dated. Bed was not comfortable and based on reviews, we brought our own bedding and towels. However, the “community” vibe was great. We enjoyed visiting with other guests. We had a blast at the beach; it was very clean. Overall, better than having to set up a tent!
- Michelle (10/5): We’d come back - Cabins are clean outdated appliances moldy shower Curtain but for the price we payed and just basically to sleep in it was worth it.
Could use some ground work and pick up broken chairs and old fire grills outside.
Update the patio sets and you’re good.
Your right in the lake wake up and swim it is a beautiful spot.
- Mia (10/5): - Staff were super kind and helpful, the view of the beach was absolutely stunning!
- Wendi S (8/5): - Quiet, rustic get away. Great beach.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Cabins are outdated
- sheryl (6/5): - The beach was wonderful. The location to Tawas was good the cabins are older with a few updates like the outside siding and some of the windows. The mattresses, pillows and sheets where well used. The fitted sheet does not stay on the mattress. The owner was very nice.
- Holly (10/5): Cant wait to be back - Thi
- Anthony (10/5): - Nice quiet little get away. My family and I had a wonderful time the beach is beautiful and not too crowded at all i will definitely be planning to return on another trip
- John (6/5): - The beach is right on the property
- Jenny (6/5): - The beach was wonderful. Sadly, the cleanliness only gets one star. Just not clean. Needs major updates for the cabins.
- Sylvia (8/5): - Enjoyed our stay! Beautiful view, friendly staff, cozy little cabin. Very peaceful. I read the other google reviews prior to going and did bring my own linen and tupperware/cooking utensils.
The only thing I saw as an issue is that they waited to pull weeds/mow the lawn area by our cabin the day we arrived. It did make a couple ants pop up, but nothing ant spray couldn't help. Very minor.
We loved our getaway and experience here and most certainly will be going back again!!
- Stephanie (10/5): - Getting away and visiting family
- Tina (10/5): - Price is good
- Alecia Maureen (8/5): - Cozy, clean cottage on the water near the Au Sable river. Nice little getaway!
- Chelsie (10/5): - Awesome place to stay and great view
- Albert (10/5): - It was a very quiet stay the cabin was a great size and everything was comfortable!
- Jennifer (10/5): - Very cozy cabin!! Owner extremely helpful and friendly!! Definitely coming back next year!!!
- Jessica (10/5): - This is our 2nd time staying here in 1 month , we absolutely love it and have already booked our next stay with them .
- Cindy (6/5): - There are no steps to the beach. You have to climb over huge boulders. Close to the beach. Close to town.
- Linda (10/5): - can't beat the view!
- Patrizia (8/5): - Very quiet, close to the lake, nice beach. You can walk, swimm, go canoeing. It's quite close to shopping and restaurant. The cabin was comfortable and had everything we needed
- christopher (10/5): - The owner is very polite will stay again in the future. The beach is right at the property so not far to go swimming
- Psychedelic (10/5): - Great place, family friendly, quick drive from many attractions.
- Deborah (10/5): - Loved being right on the beach! Elana was very welcoming and kept the place clean
- LISA (10/5): - Cabin was very well maintained and spotless. Great views, friendly owners.
- Melissa (6/5): - Location was perfect between Oscoda and East Tawas. The beach was really nice, just needs a safer access to it. The grounds need some attention; the trees and shrubs should be trimmed to be able to walk through the common areas and the curb appeal is greatly needed as well! The accommodations were appreciated, quaint and tiny, but it served us well and we enjoyed our stay.
- catherine (4/5): - Property is right on Lake Huron with a gorgeous view of the water. Access to the beach meant climbing over some big boulders which was a bit challenging. The property around the cabins needs to be weeded and trimmed since it is very overgrown. Cabin was relatively clean. Appliances were clean and worked fine but were very old. Big black ants were found in the bed. I had to hunt for and wash enough silverware for dinner for four. Probably won’t go back
- Melanie (8/5): Older but good for the price - Yes, it is an older property, but it was clean. The view was fantastic and is not too far from the town. We stayed for 5 nights as we were visiting family in Oscoda and we could not beat this price. The two bedrooms in the cabin are small but allowed our son to have his own room for privacy. The gentleman who runs this property was very nice.
- Heather (10/5): - Very peaceful ❤️
- Glenn (8/5): - Not a bad stay. But it was pretty cold at night and there was no heat hooked up. Windows, I believe, are original. Couldn't open. Screens where tore and falling out. Exterior needed cleaning up a lot. But inside was clean.
- Michael (6/5): - The view we had was awesome. The property was unkept, and overgrown. Our cabin was nice but very dated, bring your own pillows because the pillows provided were flat.
- John (8/5): - This was for a hunting trip and met our needs goof.
- Pranabesh (10/5): - Amazing place! Loved the apple trees.
- Rebecca (10/5): - Beautiful outdoor property to enjoy the lake and the breeze! Bed was very comfy as well
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Fire pit on beach. Very peaceful Old Michigan!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Nice Location...needs work - For the price it is not what you would expect...it needs work and tlc. Quite dirty...there was hair in my bed. The best feature is that it is right on the lake and you can see the lake from most cabins.
- Amy (8/5): - Beautiful location and view. Love the cozy cabin feel, we cooked most of our meals and socialized with other patrons. Very clean Beach for wandering along.
- Pamela (4/5): - When we arrived at the property and was given keys and the cabin was very musty smelling and we had to open windows to air out the mold smell. The beds were filled with sand and it was good we had our own pillows and sheets and blankets. The coffee pot was used and not washed and coffee was baked into the pot. We had our own coffee pot to use. We requested another roll of toilet paper and they said they only provide 1 roll per stay and then we have to buy our own toilet paper. The only good thing was the beach and the view. I will never book there again
- Jill (10/5): - Nice little getaway at this place. Right on water. Really Enjoyed this place.
- Verified traveler (4/5): With a little TLC it would be great - On the water convenience’s and close to town. Cabin was not the most clean
- Alysia (8/5): - The website states no one on property to contact before you get there but when you call the owner is on site so that was confusing. Online check out says 11 but in the cabins it says 10 . Everything was clean except the bedding looked verrrrry old and there were some stains on the blankets. Other than that the owner was very helpful/friendly and the cabins were clean. Beautiful view of Lake Huron ! Nice private beach! Will definitely go again!
- Dawn (10/5): Nice little place to stay. - Nice little cabins to stay in. The flowers and trees were a little overgrown making it look crowded, but it was a nice place to stay. Beach area was very relaxing & plenty of chairs & lounges to lay out. You have to walk down a little way to use the ladder to get down by the lake or just climb down the rocks. The owner was very pleasant!
- Janice (6/5): - Pictures made it look great. Run down.
Fridge didnt work.
Just needs some cleaning up.
Cabin was clean. Thats the only reason we continued our stay.
- Kathy (8/5): - I would stay there again.
- Nicole (10/5): Great People - My fiance is in a wheelchair so we couldnt stay, because I didnt ask the questions. Owner was so nice and gave me a refund, I WILL stay next girl trip. Great people.
- Mark (4/5): - Was very old. Not clean. Very old beds
Got no sleep
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Wonderful owners and the perfect Up North Get away.
- Sweet (10/5): - Beautiful lake view and access to firepits.
- Marianne (8/5): - Pleasant stay. Would go again
- Lynn (8/5): - Very close to the lake, beach not crowded at all. Proprietor didn’t know we had a dog. Since she was small and they weren’t crowded he let us stay with her.
- Sharon (8/5): - My best friend from out of state and I rented a cabin at Scenic Resort for a weekend to relax and catch up on each others lives. We booked the cabin closest to the lake because my friend has missed the Great Lakes.
Our cabin was clean and the owner was very friendly.
The only issue we had was that even though we probably could have thrown a rock into the lake from our cabin, we could not access the lake due to the jagged boulders that we assumed were being used to help with erosion issues. We had hoped to spend time at the water, so we walked to the ends of the property thinking we would be able to get the water's edge with our chairs, but the rocks were wrapping around the property and we could not reach the beautiful, sandy beach.
We would not hesitate to rent there again if the lake was accessible. But we booked next year's get-a-way at another cabin in the same area.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Primitive - The best thing was the view of Lake Huron. The bed creaked and was up against a wall so hard to get in and out of. I guess I shouldn't have expected more, but I did. Disappointing.
- Brian (6/5): Great price but could use some uodating - The property is dated and could use some updating and maintenance. Not enough parking available and a full time guest was rude when they had to park in the grass through no fault of mine. The host was phenomenal and friendly but could spend a few dollars upgrading features and get a better price per night.
- Richard (10/5): - excellent place and beautiful view... the owner was very friendly and outgoing... would recommend
- Mark (10/5): - Quaint and cozy cabin. Loved the wood paneling!
- Christine (2/5): - The cabin we stayed in was filthy. Binds were broken. Smelled so musty . It was the worst place we have ever stayed at. Will not go back there
- Debra (10/5): - Really nice property for the price. Beautiful beach area with wonderful lakefront view. Nice owners and staff. Highly recommend
- Christopher T (6/5): - The price was fair. Didn't expect much and that's what we got. Entire property needs some major attention, from the beds to the grounds.
- NATALIE (10/5): - The owner is a great guy! He keeps his property in good shape and is always available if anything is needed. This was not my trip to the resort and it won't be our last!!!
- Rachel (4/5): - The location is absolutely amazing but the cabin is another not. It needs to be deep cleaned. The beds and tables had sand all over them. Everywhere was dirty and dusty. I did take a picture of the huge spider web above the main door to the cabin.
- Troy J (6/5): - This is a gorgeous area. Sitting at the beach with a fire going was the highlight of the amenities though. The majority of the private beach has rocks that you can't get to the water and there is only maybe a 10 foot section we're you can swim. They bet on their customers to wash the dishes and clean the coffee pot though and do not even look to make sure it's done or that nothing is left that should be. The group before us did not clean, so I was washing before and after use. The yard needs to be keep up too, flowers overgrown into the narrow sidewalks so you were walking on the grass.
- Rielly (10/5): - Cute affordable place to stay on the water.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was a nice location between Oscoda and East Tawas. Beautiful view of Lake Huron. The area to get down to the lake needs more steps, the beach area was small but plenty of lounge chairs to use. The wifi was spotty, needs to be updated. Owner was very pleasant with check in and check out.
- Kristina (6/5): - Weeds over grown, bushes and trees way over grown too, beach was okay could of been cleaned a bit more, cabin it’s self is okay, bed sheets are way old wish they would just update those and keep up on that, showe have no room to even stand I was against the wall while the shower head was straight on me. Just a few things should be updated and maintenance over all it’s okay to stay at.
- Stephen (6/5): - Tidy little cottage on Lake Huron. Great water presure in the shower, air conditioning in the bedroom, did what I needed.
- Daniel (6/5): - The cabin was very antiquated.
- Allison (10/5): - Great views
- Cynthia (8/5): - It is nice, the cabins are nice, bring extra things to cook in if you do a lot of cooking but all in all nice for the money
- Arlene (10/5): - Perfect place to get away with beautiful views
- Robert p (6/5): - Small,old and not comfortable
.
- Heidi (10/5): - I loved the lake and that I was right on the beach. The cabins were nice and clean we will stay again
- Kathy (8/5): - It was very relaxing, low key, it was better then we expected.
- Javier (6/5): - Outdated
But quiet and private
Good location
- Douglas (8/5): Classic Michigan Roadside Motel/Resort - This place is a Classic Michigan Roadside Motel/Resort. The cabin walls were Knotty Pine with vintage appliances, fixtures and furnishings. The owner is a very pleasant Filipino immigrant that has an interesting story about coming to Michigan. Make sure to spend some time talking with him. The best part is you cant beat the price and location between Oscoda and Tawas City.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Stay was clean and amazing!! Beautiful area and peaceful.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Advertising was misleading, there is no beach! Grounds were very unkept, grass and plants were tall hanging over sidewalks.
Cabin was clean, but needs updating. Lots of spiders.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Unfortunately we were very disappointed to say the least with the condition of the cabin and property. Upon arriving, the cabin was filled with flies due to holes in the screens and it smelled of mildew. We found hair in the beds along with the shower. The couch on which one of us had to sleep was filthy. Pictures on the site are very outdated. Trees on the property and flowers are all overgrown and you walk through spider webs on your way to the beach. Speaking of spiders, they are EVERYWHERE. The place should be fumigated. Beach is very small given that you are sharing it with many others. Only 3 firepits of which again you have to share. The only upside we found was that the owner was very friendly. Sorry to say I would not recommend nor would I ever return.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice, no frills place to stay for a couple days.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owner was very nice and helpful. I would've liked a little bit bigger beach area by the water for my grandson, but the water was a little too cold for him anyhow. Plenty of sand area though for him to play in. It may be a little outdated, but felt very homey and had the things we needed. We had a great time with a beautiful view. Will definitely go back there again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Dirty, Run Down...DO NOT RECOMMEND - Cabin was very dirty & falling apart! Do NOT trust the photos online. Holes in window screens, bathroom faucet completely disconnected from sink bowl, broken blinds, FILTHY DIRTY!!! Owner was very nice. Beautiful flowers...mixed in with all the weeds, property was not kept up. Would NOT recommend staying here. Very disappointed. We did respectfully tell owner all this. He is very nice.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The age of the resort. The cabin was very clean and neat.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owner of the property was very nice. The property had beautiful flowers and fruit trees. Right out side of my door was a cherry tree.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was right on the water and you can tell that they have had some eroding issues but they had a fresh rock wall and fresh sand for the beach area. The cabin we stayed in had fresh foundation. Most likely because of the eroding issues that area has had. The thing that I was just "ok" about was that the room was very musty/mildew smell and with my bad allergies it was irritated a little. I expect it a little from local owned places like this. Over all it was nice and the price was right. we only slept there so it wasn't that big of a deal. I appreciated the quick and easy check in and outs. It was convenient and perfect for what we were looking for.
- Denise (8/5): Loved it!! - Perfect view of Lake Huron. Sleeping areas were comfortable. Cabin was just right for a quick weekend getaway.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice place for the price you had to pay. My bedroom had no electricity but other than that it was nice
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place right on the water and had most everything I needed. Would recommend bringing paper towels, storage bags, charcoal/fluid if you plan to cook. Owner was easy to get a hold of for extra towels, etc.
