Guest Reviews
- Daniel (8/5): - Great for overnight
- Gerardus (4/5): - Mild around calking in bathroom
Rust on meta lamps
Mixed match furniture
Old bed spread cover
Shower water spilled onto floor 🙁
- Susan (6/5): - This reservation served our purposes for one night. It was clean but in need of updating of furnishings and bathrooms.
- D (4/5): - Have stayed here 4 years in a row, usually in room 1 or 2 which we found clean w/amenities (good fridge, sm tv, microwave) This year, given room #5 which has noticeable deficiencies. Separating wallpaper, gouges in walls, ceiling, cobwebs in bathroom & stained caulking in bathtub surround. Air conditioning unit in real need of a clean.Dirty grid, vents & questionable mold status. Some concern with extension cords used for appliances, tv., lack of outlets to use safely. While its appreciated that property is dated & the per night cost is more reasonable than nearby hotels, maintenance issues speak to a lack of care. Paved areas near doors have collected debris & dirt which could easily be sorted with a few minutes of sweeping. Dissatisfied with lack of information given on check in. Outside of a few daytime hours, we found the lobby & lounge locked, could not get in or find any staff. Got up early to have breakfast the next morning but everything locked up, had to go to convenience store down the road for a coffee. Breakfast lounge area was always open in the past & staff were very helpful. Should have been told when registering, especially after we said we had been there many times in the past, that you will be given room key & then you're on your own. Btw, at least 6 cars here, so its not an empty motel. Sorry to say, we weren't satisfied with our 2 night stay. Mainly due to decline & lack of service. No in person opportunity to share concerns with before 11a.m ckout.
- Tammy (6/5): Ok in a pinch - The motel is ok. The room is dated with an uncomfortable bed. Breakfast was all starch, no yogurt or fruit.
- Grant (6/5): - Staff were good but the restaurant was wanting -- they eere out of just abouy everything. What we ended up eatimg was okay buy the selection was reduced to very little.
- Ashraf (4/5): - Rooms were not clean. There was dust around the tables and lamp. The bathroom was dirty and the shower had bugs and spiders. The overall feel of the room was very poor. Breakfast was disaster. The cups for juice were dirty enough for you to see. There was hardly any choice for food. There was no staff present during breakfast and a dreadful music was playing, making the atmosphere even more creepy. I really hope they improve the facility. The current conditions are very bad.
- Woody (4/5): - The hotel room that we were in had a lot of mold on the walls and ceiling in the bathroom. Hotel should be closed down and cleaned up and definitely not on Expedia.I will never stay there again and should be reported to the tourism board of Nova Scotia.very disappointed in the price that was charged.
- Harry (6/5): - Place needs upgrading+ updating. Breakfast was very basic.
- Kristiane (6/5): - Would have liked a coffee maker and tissues in the room. Bathroom was not in great shape … the bathroom was painted but poorly. Continental breakfast was fine.
- douglas (6/5): - You changed rooms for us and fixed the tv
But the bathroom was less desirable it had black mold and behind the toilet there was streak of black
- Patricia (8/5): - Very friendly staff. Excellent location near the water front.
- Tim (2/5): Very sad property. Avoid - Entire property is in a complete disrepair. The bed was so far gone my wife and I involuntarily ended up in the deep indent in the middle of the bed. Walls and ceiling had chucks of damage from water leaks. Breakfast (if it's possible to call it that) was sad. The exterior of the main building roofs had decomposing tarps on them to try to minimize leaks. A positive was the staff. They were pleasant and always available. Overall I would never stay here again. I booked it because it was the last property that had rooms. I see why now. In future I'll stay in Sydney and drive instead.
- Ricky (10/5): - We were able to get a meal inside dining area when arriving around 7:00 pm. Very good accommodation for price and enjoyed the simple but included breakfast.
- Laura (8/5): - Room was to be nonsmoking, and very mu h wasnt. The smell was gross for nonsmoker....shouldve askex for a change but at first rhat it was musty being by tge ocean
- David (8/5): - The room was fairly “basic” in most respects, but quite adequate for the price paid. The one thing I was REALLY impressed by was the quality of customer service displayed by the front desk staff, who were super-friendly, and went out of their way to help me on several occasions (most notably, obtaining a drive back to Sydney when my original ride fell through) … impressed me very much!
- Anne (8/5): - Staff very friendly. Rooms are clean and comfortable and probably could use updating.
- Jon (4/5): - Mouldy, smells, walls taped together
- Nicole (6/5): - We stayed here to be close to Fortress of Louisburg. The room was clean overall and presented as a standard motel room. The room was musty and the bathroom was outdated with mouldy caulking around the tub. The breakfast included burnt tasting percolated coffee, corn flakes/ rice crispies, premade egg patties, commercial bread, and sachets of peanut butter and jam as well as orange juice from concentrate. It was almost unpalatable and we would have preferred not to have been expecting any breakfast at all.
- PAULA (2/5): - This place is old and rundown. The mattress was old and worn so very uncomfortable. Tried to speak to management prior to leaving our first day but gone by 11. We were going to ask if there was another room with a newer bed but we were gone all day so never had the chance.
The rooms were dark little lighting. Lots of mold around the tub. Had to go looking for a hair dryer on the first day. We got in from the lady in housekeeping. She was very nice and helpful.
We went for the continental breakfast but only on the first day. It wasn’t worth getting up for.
I know the saying you get what you pay for.
We will not be back.
- Michel (8/5): - Clesn but dated.
- naseer (10/5): - We stayed here one night. Rooms are generally clean, albeit a little dated. Decent size. There was a fridge and microwave in the room which was handy. The location is great for visiting the Louisberg fortress and the light house. the light house is a five min drive and the fortress entrance is 6 min drive. They do provide a breakfast. Nothing fancy. cereal and toast and what looked like powdered eggs. Parking is easy. the staff were friendly.
- Tiemo (6/5): - Need renovations
- Jason (8/5): - Great place to stay, lots to offer and fair price.
- Nicole (10/5): - Beautiful, slow, friendly.
- manish (6/5): - .
- Tanya (6/5): - Overall it was passable for an inexpensive place to sleep. Breakfast was fine.
My biggest complaint is that the unit we were in had a defective lock. It took me 10 minutes to figure out just how to wiggle the knob to make it lock.
- james (6/5): - Not up to date at all. Half the motel was unused and was storage for old furniture and such.
Was really a hotel suited for the trades and fishermen.
As their sign said “Only hotel in Louisburg”;
But even so the cost was too much for what is was.
- Pamela (10/5): Squeaky mattress - I stayed in room 34. Needs a new bed. It was so uncomfortable and noisy. Every time I moved it squeaked so loud that it would wake my dog up. Made for 2 long nights.
- Lise (8/5): - Bed was central curving
- Carolann (10/5): - We had such a relaxing time at this inn. We wanted to upgrade to a family suite to be able to cook and relax with our new puppy and they accommodated Us. They also are very pet friendly and the staff is amazing. Walkable to the cutest little shops and restaurants. Plus the water view was amazing.
- Charles (6/5): - The staff was very friendly and helpful.
No fridge or coffee in the Room.
- Patricia (2/5): - The hotel was not well kept and a lot of things were dirty. Our door was even a bit damaged, as if it was kicked in at some point.
- Jeannine (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay. The good rating was because the bed was not as comfortable. Fine for me but hard on my husbands bad back. Other than that it would rate excellent for me
- matthew (2/5): - This place was in tough shape, pull out was unusable
- Ross (2/5): - There was a lack of professional training in our experience. The young man at the front desk was curtious. The breakfast was very basic. The wait staff in the restaurant section
was interesting. They really need more training. The menu offered several options but when we ordered something, they were not available. Even after we changed our order and we’re waiting for food, we were told that our second choice was also unavailable. Not well organized. Rooms were very basic, not the most comfortable bed. I would not recommend this place.
- michel (8/5): - Comfortable room. Mattresses on bed could use upgrading. Breakfast was good and staff very friendly.
- Brenda (6/5): - The customer service is very good. The motel was clean but it is aged but the price is reflective of the motel.
- Sylvie (8/5): - Good for one night
- Devyanshi (8/5): - Good place for stay
- Joanna (10/5): - It was a great place, staff was great!
- Lisa (4/5): - Unfortunately, this property has not been maintained over the last 20+ years. As long time visitors to the area, we had hopes that when the new owners took over a few years ago, there would be imrpovements, that has not happened.
The rooms have not been painted, fixtures are definitely from the late 90s and the polyester bed covers are gatherers of all things hair. A new comforter would be a nice touch.
The motel doors do not close securely, infact ours did not have a deadlock at all and the room next to us did not have a door that sealed.
This was our last year at the motel.
- Geraldine (10/5): - Rooms very clean.
- Radu (10/5): - Excellent
- Verified traveler (8/5): Ok place to stay - Motel is run down but is the only accomodation in Louisburg itself. The motel restaurant served seafood chowder that tasted like it came from a can, was a small portion, and cost $16. The fish and chips were decent. There are very few restaurants in Louisburg and they all close early. The motel restaurant was open until 7:45.
- Melissa (8/5): - The bed wasnt very comfortable and the ac didnt give cold air. Also didnt like having to leave a deposit for the room on my debit considering I had paid all in advance. The staff were very nice and friendly though. Basic motel for a quick night sleep and not too expensive. Would stay again if they upgraded their mattresses
- Jack (8/5): - Clean, comfortable, well-stocked room. Friendly staff. Beds were great. Everything in the kitchenette was clean and worked properly. A cozy place to stay at a decent price.
- Sarah (4/5): - Its clean
Very over priced for how run down it is
- Kathy (10/5): - Room was very nice, clean, and staff was awesome
- Paul (8/5): - The room was clean and tidy, and the air conditioning worked well - essential given the heat wave we drove into in the Maritimes. Bed was comfortable and the shower had decent pressure. The morning breakfast was simple but a good start to the day. Not fancy but a solid low cost option for the budget traveler. As for the location, it's a 10 minute drive to the Fort, and (if you need it) a laundromat just up the road. We didn't have too many interactions with the staff but they were always friendly and helpful.
- Marie (8/5): - Need to update your ad. There isn’t laundry here as stated. The breakfast was continental however your option was toast or cereal. Need to up the game here.
- Paula (4/5): - Not as shown by pics
- Brenda (6/5): - Restaurant attached to hotel was quite generous & tasty. Definitely not a 5 star but adequately accomodated us after visiting the Fort, reasonable price.
- Paula (4/5): - We stayed 3 nights: at least there were furniture spaces for 2 suitcases -- but many safety concerns like bare electric wires on plug on bedside lamp.
Step-in tub had no grab bars when showering, & short lucite rod on wall was already broken.
Worst-- grimy bedspread not washed in a long time, & then just a sheet. No other bedding.
Very over priced.
We saw cheapest possible "amenities" (tiny dollar store bathmat) yet paying beyond top dollar room rate ($489. for 3 nights).
Seasonal Temp staff were kindly trying to be helpful but without much training or experience.
- April Ya Li (4/5): - It was on the older side but it serve the purpose of a one night stay. The breakfast in the morning was a bonus.
- Pat (2/5): - Poorly maintained very poor customers service
- Cindy (4/5): - Convenient location, near Louisbourg National Historic Site. I appreciate the staff accompanying our late arrival.
- Daryl (4/5): - Continental Breakfast - water for making the instant oatmeal was cold. BASICALLY TOAST AND ORANGE JUICE
- Pauline (4/5): Avoid the motel but enjoy the pub. - The motel seemed quite run down. Beds were not comfortable and unsafe. A wooden plinth with no support across and a box spring balanced on top. One of our party got a back injury due to the box spring collapsing into the plinth.
Bathroom had dripping taps and the floor flooded due to a poorly fitting shower curtain.
No coffee facilities in the rooms.
Breakfast was very basic, toast, cornflakes or rice crispies.
The best part of it was a night in Jake’s Lounge which had plenty of games for entertainment and a decent selection of bar food.
- Alina (4/5): - The room was clean and fine overall. Breakfast was a big letdown — no eggs, cheese, or sausages were offered. It was just peanut butter, jam, toast, some bland cereal, coffee, and orange juice. There was an empty electric rice pot, so we figured eggs and sausages were served earlier, but by the time we arrived, most guests didn’t get any. Honestly, this felt more like a basic motel than an inn.
- Jeanne (8/5): - Comfortable room, quiet, convenient to downtown
- Meirah (6/5): - Nice rooms for the price, was good for a one-night stay.
- Adam (10/5): - Close to the wayerfront and great value for price
- Wendy (2/5): - This motel is dirty, there are dead bugs on the floor, the electrical outlets are not safe, there is garbage outside. This place is a disgrace to Louisbourg, Cape Breton and Nova Scotia.
- Patrick (6/5): - Very convenient. Decent enough motel. Friendly staff. Bit limited food selection at restaurant. Nice little continental breakfast.
- Silvanus (8/5): - A good place to stay if visiting the Louisbourg Fortress national site. Staff here were extremely helpful with some additional needs unrelated to the motel stay.
- Eduard (4/5): - Very dated hotel. Smelled badly and the bathroom was dirty. There was hair in the bathroom probably from the previous occupants.
- Jergen (4/5): - I’ll fitting bath door jams on floor, bedside light unplugged as electrical hazard, poor bedding, window coverings too narrow for window and too long covering over ac (blocking flow). Poor bathroom fixtures. Didn’t try included breakfast as felt would as bad as room.
- Jahid (10/5): - It was great.
- Christine (4/5): - It was a small inn but when it’s off season there is absolutely no options for breakfast.
There is a pool table, darts and ping pong that kept us busy before turning in for the night.
Pictures are deceiving.
- Maureen (4/5): - The front door of the lobby was locked, we had to go around the building into the bar to get someone to check us in. The paint was coming off the walls and ceiling in multiple areas. The bedcover looked like it was from 1960. The mattress was uncomfortable and squeaky. There were newer floors and toilet which were appreciated. I would not rate this a three star motel, it was 2 at best. We didn’t feel comfortable using the bathtub. It took 4hrs for the room to warm up, the heat was not turned on, we turned it on. The fridge was very noisy and was sitting on top of a dresser obstructing the mirror. I would not recommend this establishment. There was a written note on the wall when we checked in saying absolutely no refunds. We were glad we were only there for one night.
- Zachary (10/5): - A great stay
- WEI (10/5): - Nice location.
- Paul (6/5): - I was there off-season, and this was probably the only option. There is a bar in the main building. The young man at the front desk was very helpful, but I believe he took cate of everything ny himself. Again, off-season.
- Jane (10/5): - Quiet, clean and cozy with space for 4 people to move around in comfort.
Could have used a kettle to make tea.
This was our second visit would stay again!
- Donald (4/5): - The shower was nasty. Moldy and nasty looking. The attached bar blasts music until 1am. Beds were clean and the mattress was ok. The place is cheap but not cheap enough to allow the shower to look like it did.
- Martin (10/5): - It is a motel and that is what I expected
- Shauna (10/5): - Very comfortable place very central and very nice people who own and work there
- Douglas (2/5): - Mold in bathroom could not stay in room. Pass keys back in that night and left the property. I should get a refund. I took a picture of bathroom but can’t paste it in this message. But I can see email of pictures. Just let me know where to send. Thanks
- Stephen (8/5): - Not many choices of places to stay in Louisbourg, but this was just what we needed.
- Jason (6/5): - The bolt lock on the room door didnt lock properly and there was no standard outlet in the bathroom. Check in and out was simple though.
- Kayla (8/5): - We booked this place as it was the only place available for the night we needed to stay. We were a bit nervous as there was a lot of negative reviews, despite it being outdated it was spotless & had everything we needed. Staff, locals and the whole atmosphere was A . The lounge was great, we will most likely be back next time we’re in the area.
- Vance (4/5): - This is a dilapidated overpriced motel. Neighbourhood dogs barked all night. However, there are no other options under 200 a night
- Emily (8/5): - Couple next to us fought both nights we stayed we could hear them clear as day while they had their argument inside and outside their unit. Room was fairly clean and exactly what we needed for our short stay. While the room claimed to be non smoking, it is clear it was smoked in with the nicotine dripping from the bathroom ceiling.
- Jean (4/5): - Ugly painting which makes it shabby looking.
Mold in tub/shower….yuk!
- Amanda (10/5): - Historical! Eerie vibe...loved it!
- Bob (2/5): - A solid 1-star motel. From the drive up curb unappeal (apparent unused vacant units, dilapidated siding, ill-fitting AC units, concrete overflow and weed sprouts at footings, etc.) to the cowbell door annunciator to bring attendant from hallway, to the prominent hand-written “NO REFUNDS” sign pointedly displayed over the check in desk, you may feel something other than welcome.
The good? Our unit door locked, the electric heaters were effective (if smelling of burnt dust), the toilet flushes, the linen seemed clean.
The bad and ugly? The in-wall AC unit (showing the service filter light) wasn’t sealed completely and allowed a noticeable draft from the window to intrude into the only seating area; similarly, the door seal was open enough to show light in bottom corner when closed. General uncleanliness: “Lick and a promise” might describe the cleaning style, heavy on the “promise”. Most motel bathrooms show a little mold on the caulk around the tub, but this bathroom had a colony of black mold (Stachybotrys chartarum?) as big as your palm spread on the wall to the floor between the tub and the heater. There was enough that it could be considered a health hazard.
My wife dropped her keys off the dresser and had to pull it out from the wall to retrieve them — suffice it to say this may have been the first time this decade the dresser was moved.
Our recommendations? Book a room elsewhere—you might need to drive farther but you won’t regret it.
- Catherine (10/5): - We gad a lovely stay in Louisebourg NS. Room spacious, close to eateries, convenience store and sea.
- Anne-Marie (2/5): - The room smelled like roth and it was very dirty. The bath, behind the bedside table… found a bug in the bed
- Jean (8/5): - Some of the unit needed painting.
- Thelma (10/5): - All was good, thanks for asking
- Robert (2/5): - Smelled terrible when we went in. Opened door and window and had to spray perfume to try to rid the damp musty smell. Air conditioner was all rusty and sketchy to use. Bedspreads looked like they were from the 1970’s. This place needs a complete makeover. It is very tired.
- Era (2/5): - I have traveled extensively both internationally & domestically & have never given a hotel a “1” rating, however, in all fairness to travelers, I must say this hotel deserves a “1.” The lady who checked us in was very nice, but it went downhill from there. The room does not look anything like the pictures; in reality, the room is old and run down. The mattress on 1 of the beds should have been thrown away long ago. It had a huge valley in the center & when you sat on the edge, all you felt was the metal frame around the springs. The wallpaper is coming off the walls. There was no hot water in the bathroom sink & the faucet in the tub dripped constantly. On top of that, there’s mold around the tub, on the bathroom ceiling, & in the air conditioner vents. The A/C unit was a window air conditioner, but it was so dirty and moldy that you were constantly breathing unhealthy air. Plus, the curtain completely covered the A/C unit so it couldn’t cool the room even if you used it. The continental breakfast consisted of toast, coffee, tea, 2 choices of dry cereal (but I didn’t see any milk), orange juice, & processed egg patties. When I told the staff (owner?) about the no hot water, & about the bed, he said the problem with the bed was that it slipped off the frame! (The reality is, the beds were on platforms, not frames.) It was obvious they didn’t care & nothing is going to be done to improve things. You definitely DO NOT want to stay here.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It appears that this property is undergoing renovations, which are needed. It's good that the owners are taking care of things.
- WILLIAM (10/5): - nice area, clean
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Water in toilet was running permanently and was noisy especially at night, mattresses were a catastrophy, breakfast was ok but very limited. They do have billiard tabels for free and table tennis inside the bar/restaurant and a good variety of drinks in the bar.
- Anne (6/5): - Property was average. Room was dated and not very comfortable bed. Staff was friendly but restaurant closed before posted hours so inconvenient
- Sharon (2/5): - The air conditioners were full of black mold inside and on the outside casing. I asked to be moved to another room with a clean A/C unit they showed me 4 units all had the same issue as well as some units had the light on indicating that the filter needed to be cleaned. I would not recommend this property to anyone it is not a healthy environment to be in.
- Dominique (6/5): - L'odeur d'humidité, les traces de moisissure au plafond de la salle de bain, l'état général de la chambre ne justifie pas le coût demandé pour la chambre.
