Guest Reviews
- Melissa (10/5): - Had such a wonderful stay. Property was clean, easy to get to. Right on the lake, very peaceful and serene. Highly recommend!
- Verified traveler (10/5): A+ - The cabin was spectacular!! Everything looked brand new in the cabin. Renfro obviosly takes pride in the accomidations, and pays attention to the details. I will be staying at the cabins again next summer. Great Bargain compared to other places in the area.
- Kellie (10/5): Cozy Cabin with a Gorgeous View - Beautiful cabin and location. Cabin was very clean, everything was in great condition and very cozy! Would love to stay here again.
- Tammy (10/5): Great cabins!! - This was an amazing place.. clean comfortable.. nice and peaceful!! Would highly recommend.. and Gary was awesome.
- Lindsey (10/5): - This place was the perfect place for solitude and family connection. The little cabin was efficient and perfectly appointed. It felt secluded, but it was just a short drive to Seward, which is fun and vibrant. I almost cried when we left and I vow to return one day. Side note: there was mention in the description of no cell service unless you have Verizon, but our Spectrum service there worked perfectly—even though you should not want to be on a phone in such a special place.
- Katherine (10/5): - The host of this property was extremely helpful to us. We could not stay at his property because of an accident. The host went out of his way to find us an alternative property in town and covered the difference in price! He made sure that his guests are taken care of. I am very grateful.
- Georgene (10/5): Loved the stay! - Excellent location and communication!
- Sean (6/5): - This place had the perfect cabin feel. Unfortunately we were not alone. There were definitely noisy unwanted roommates in the ceiling, fortunately the roof was nicely sealed from the living area. However seemed ironic that we had to pay a pet fee for our little dog when there were animals living there rent free.
- Venessa (10/5): - If you’re headed to Seward this is the absolute best place to stay. I am absolutely in love with this quiet remote place. It is nicely tucked away in the middle of the woods. The owner Gary is usually in the office when you enter. He is warm, informative and extremely pleasant to deal with. He had two assistants that were equally as pleasant and helpful. The cabins were well stocked with everything we could have possibly needed. The place was safe, well kept and just a dream get away for anyone who desire a nice remote and homely stay. There is no wifi in most of the cabin areas but we used that as a mental break from screens and an opportunity to focus on the nature in front of us. The mountains and lake was within 5 minutes walk from our cabin. Kayaking is available on the premises. My husband who is an avid New Yorker and started off reluctant fell in love with this place and is looking forward to another visit. There was absolutely nothing negative I could say about this place. Thanks Gary for allowing us a little slice of your world.
- Barbara (8/5): Renovated, cozy cabin in the woods - We stayed the beginning of Sept. The cabin we rented was " Premium Cabin, 2 Queen Beds, Kitchen, Mountainside". It was recently renovated, cozy and clean. The cabin has a mini frig, Keurig maker & variety of coffees, hot cocoa, etc. Good quality pans for cooking. The cabin had a charcoal grill and a fire pit. The host Gary has charcoal and fire wood for sale at the office which is very convenient. Guests have use of the kayak and paddle boat. The property is wooded but a great view of the lake by the beach area that is in walking distance to the cabin. Gary is very nice and helpful. We were able to get a discount on the fjords trip in Seward if we booked through him. Bed was comfy and bathroom was nice. The Alaska railroad train does go though the property and that was cool to see. Wifi is only available at the office but you can take your time sitting at the table to use the internet on your device. We would definitely stay again.
- Vishwajit (4/5): - The location is good, about 25 min from Seward. The property is ok but falls short on many amenities. Good for a quick night stay but would not recommend for a longer stay.
- Timothy (10/5): Nice place in the woods - Very nice place, super quiet and not far from Seward. Host Gary was super nice and accommodating. We had a great time and the place was very relaxing.
- Rebecca (10/5): - The cozy cabin was spotless, quiet, and near a beautiful lake. Would love to stay there again.
- kavita (8/5): - We stayed in cabin 4, aka the fun cabin. It has lake view and it was gorgeous. Really enjoyed our stay here. There is no wifi in the cabin; only in the office.
- Cynthia (6/5): - Road construction noise all night and not there fault. Old drapes, heard bats in the ceiling and in looking on line that we would be able to see water.
- Renee (8/5): - If you want to get away from it all, Renfros is the place to go. There is no WIFI or phone service unless you go to the lodge. Make sure you take your own provisions such as salt pepper etc. The fridge is very small and the freezer will not actually keep things frozen. Seward is not far for supplies. There is plenty of hiking and things to see in the aeea..
- Heather (10/5): - This was the cleanest, most well-maintained cabin we’ve ever been to. There were so many creative, beautiful touches to the cabin and the whole campground. The cabin was well equipped for everything we needed (2 adults, 3 teens) with a gorgeous view. There is nothing I wld have changed or added!!
- John (10/5): - Stayed overnight before a fishing trip from Seward. Beautiful scenery and great hosts.
- Amber (10/5): - We are so glad we stayed at Renfro’s! It is a great “unplugged” space where we got a lot of quality family time. There are books and games available in the office, as well as kayaks and paddle boats. Our kids really enjoyed exploring at the beach, playing in the cabin loft, and swinging in the hammock. The cabin was comfortable for our family of 5. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes and cookware. We would absolutely stay here again!
- Barbara (10/5): - Beautiful place away from it all. Gary was a helpful host. We enjoyed every minute we were there.
- Andrea (10/5): Great place to reset. Would go back. - Beautiful area. Quaint cabins. Super clean. Gary was a wonderful host Wi-Fi does not exist in the cabins but is available at the check in cabin. Would not have been a big deal on vacation but a little challenging when traveling for business. Remote area so no TV.
- Nadezda (8/5): - Cute and cozy cabin
- Justine (10/5): - Stayed in a lakeside cabin with an absolutely stunning view. Every little detail couldn’t have been any better! The lack of Wi-Fi and tv at the cabin was a plus. The grounds were immaculate and the location was amazing! About 20 minutes from Seward. We’re here for four nites at it was very relaxing. Gary is a great host!
- Ryan (10/5): - Extremely clean and cozy one night stay! The owners and workers are as kind as they come even offering us a free ride into Seward if we needed. Would absolutely stay here again!
- Yanbo (8/5): - 有独立小厨房洗手间的小木屋,周边环境很原始,但外面很多蚊子,房间里没有微波炉,整个没有信号跟wifi, 适合去完全修身养性的人!
- Wharton (10/5): - Beautiful Lakeside views. Beautiful Lakeside views
- Pia (10/5): - A great place to stay for a Alaska nature retreat with the lake right in front of your cabin door! The cabins are brand new and very clean. We would have loved to stay longer.
- Dolores (6/5): - The cabin we stayed in was fine - just know it is very basic and rustic - no insulation.
- serena (6/5): - Pros: Secluded and quiet. Near the lake. A hike down the railroad tracks leads to the river. Welcoming. Heater works great. The grounds are kept very nice and clean.
Cons: No wifi in cabin. No regular coffee pot. No phone signal. Staff leaves for the whole day without having an emergency contact. You are on your own if something goes wrong like getting locked out of your cabin - which we did. No paper towels. No microwave.
- Danielle (8/5): - Inconvenience due to road work
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place to stay - Wonderful getaway on a great property about 20 minutes from Skagway. Cabin was thoughtfully designed and well appointed; there were electric outlets in all the right places. Bed was comfortable; parking right next to cabin. All the amenities you could can imagine right down to pods for Keurig. Laundry close and convenient.
Very pleased with our stay and all the communication before and during.
- Paca (10/5): Charming cabin and location - Great place to launch hikes, visits to downtown Seward and fjord/whale tours from. Lovely view of the lake from the kitchen and loft. It was so quiet and tranquil. A perfect place for a couple's or family getaway. The cabin was well stocked and had a modern interior. The host was very communicative and accommodating. I would definitely visit again.
- TRACE (10/5): - Cute little cabin!! Gary was very helpful and appreciate his recommendations. Very clean, very secluded.. will be back!
- Eli (10/5): - great spot-little cottage was very cozy
- David (10/5): - Vary nice cabin.
- Kristin (8/5): - Very clean! Cabin 7 newly updated. It was quiet. I wish we had stayed a little closer to Seward but the drive wasn’t too bad. Overall had everything we needed.
- Stephanie (8/5): Average stay in beautiful location - The cabin was very quiet and in a beautiful area. The lake is gorgeous.somehow my reservation was messed up so instead of 3 adults, a child and an infant, it remade it to 2 adults. So when i called to book a wildlife cruise it was then it was caught. What bothered me is he mentioned it would be an extra fee per day because of extra people. I said ok... but when a hotel room says "room for 4" they dont charge you extra for person 3 or 4. The room rate is the same. So i thought ok, maybe because of the infant its "over capacity" so i get that. But i was also charged per day for the infant. So my 3 day stay essentially cost me 4. And ive never had anyone charge for an infant. No cruise, airline, hotel etc. So that left a bad taste to me. But i had paid the deposit and hoped for the best. I was excited for the bathtub. But the tub drain couldnt be closed. So that sucked for me and the kiddos. Also, my sister was walking up the stairs and one of the stairs literally broke under her and her leg fell all the way through. Luckily i waz underneath to help her. They did come repair it the same day while we were out in town.
It was nice they have a small playground for the kids to play. Each cabin had a hammock outside it which was a nice addition as well. It was a nice expereince just left me a little bummed as well. I always want to support small buisnesses. But i also want to be honest about my experience. It also would have been great to have a microwave in the cabin.
- Peggy (10/5): - Loved the Kenai Lake, cute cabin .
- TJ (4/5): - The setting is beautiful. The only problem we had was once we booked it and arrived there was an additional cost. When booking online it won't let you add your children but once you get there you are charged extra for them.
- Matthew (10/5): - I don't normally write reviews but i feel that this spot is deserving of one. I really couldn't have asked for more. The cabin was super clean and in excellent condition. The kitchen was fitted out with all the essentials. The bed was nice and comfortable. The shower had excellent water pressure and temp. It had a modern heater/air conditioner that worked well and was quite. The view of the lake and mountains from the porch is unmatched. The staff were very friendly and helpful as well. It's only a 20 minute scenic drive from Seward and if visiting the area i wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else.
- Mary (10/5): - The property was amazing. Gary and his team pay attention to every detail which results in sn unbelievable experience.
- Alexis (10/5): - The cabin we stayed in was truly amazing! Very clean, cozy, and had everything you needed! No WiFi, but it made it better to enjoy family and beautiful Alaska! The view is breath taking as well! Gary was a wonderful host! Highly recommend.
- Shreyas (8/5): - The property is very nice, comfortable and clean. Had a great experience in the forest setting cabin.
- Neil (10/5): - We liked everything about Renfro's Lakeside Retreat! It was a spectacular location in the woods next Kenai Lake about 20 minutes north of Seward, AK. Cozy cabin that was very clean and had everything that we needed to relax each day after our adventures in and around Seward. Plus we could walk for 3-5 minutes through the woods and arrive at beautiful Kenai Lake! It is a large, pristine glacial lake with clear water surrounded by mountains in every direction. We were able to have a great campfire in a nice fire pit dedicated to our cabin. Overall, a great place to stay and feel connected to the outdoors!
- Nathan (10/5): - Wonderful getaway, beautiful cabin, great people. Overall a 5/5, will stay again. Talk to Gary, you won't be disappointed.
- LaShinda (10/5): - The view of the mountains are spectacular and only a 2 minute walk from the cabin!!!
- AJ (10/5): - This property is super gorgeous and i loved every second of the five day four night stay and I actually used the property to get engaged!
- Marjana (4/5): Looks better than it is - Owner was not friendly at check in. We had bunk beds in one of the cabins that no one could have even fit on the top bunk because it's so close to the ceiling. Bathroom door doesn't close, and the door handle was broken. When I returned to the check in to tell them about the issues the owner informed me that swelling is why the door doesn't close, but the door is actually not cut right for the door frame. We were told to remove our shoes when entering which is pretty difficult when you are trying to unload luggage and the doorway has metal grating right in front of it. The second cabin had no microwave and the beds could barely be called a bed they were so uncomfortable. You are also expecting to sweep the cabin before leaving, which is really ridiculous considering that should be part of the cleaning of the cabin after we check out.
- Christopher (10/5): Great stay in the woods! - Good location north of Seward and next to the lake. The pedal boat is nice to have also. Cabin is nicely tucked in the woods and relatively close to some hiking trails too. Overall great stay in cabin 7 with the bunk beds!
- Andriy (10/5): - No WiFi in cabin(
- Thomas (10/5): Renfro's A+ - Gary is an excellent host; super friendly and a great sourse for info on hiking, touring, etc. The cabin was charming, and the location beautiful and restful. Keni Lake is beautiful, and many of the hikes and touring around Seward is right down the road. A+
- Tom (8/5): Cute Cabin - Very remote. No WiFi or cell service and no TV. But beautiful area and very quaint. We were in our honeymoon so definitely a great choice for us to spend quality time together. Wish we would have had the chance to use the kayaks but too windy when we where there. Recommend this place for sure!
- Edward (10/5): - Thank you Gary, at renfro's lakeside cabins fantastic location and exceeded my expectations exclamation
- Madison (8/5): - Cozy and comfortable cabin
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Awesome time at Renfro's!
- Susan (10/5): Great place… repeatable!! - Loved this place!! Gary at front desk was phenomenal and the kitchen was fully stocked (even keurig pods) Water pressure in the shower was wonderful! We will return!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place to stay, the kayaks offered without additional charges makes the stay even better.
- Jonathan (10/5): So glad to find this place - Quiet secluded, near lake. Newly refurbished. Families would love the lakeside cabins. Great place for those needing peace and quiet. Wish there were more places like this. Owners thought through everything. Well worth staying here and driving into town each day for major activities.
- Jonathan (10/5): Cozy Quiet Cabins in a Spectacular Location - The views around the lake were amazing, and the location was great. Just 15 minutes from Seward. There was no hassle when we checked in and out. The site and cabin were clean and felt like a home away from home. We will definitely be staying here again, next time for longer. Hopefully the weather will be better for our next visit.
