The hotel is situated in a historic area near the railroad station, making it easy for travelers like me to commute. From here, I could easily visit My Market, the traditional market, and the Pacific Ocean Park.One of the highlights of this location is the free bike rental, which allowed me to explore the nearby trails, including the scenic Cheung trails. This added a lot of value to my trip and made getting around effortless. this hotel is an excellent choice due to its prime location and accessibility.

- Daniel (10/5): Wonderful stay at Meci Hotel - The hotel is a 7-min walk from Hualien train station. Hotel room was a tad small but all the facilities were well-kept and organised. Love the amenities in and around the hotel. There is free flow snacks (biscuits, crackers and sweets) and drinks (coffee, tea, soft drinks and iced tea). Hish speed wifi in the lobby and room. Bicycles for rent free. Washing and drying of clothes at a fee. There is a breakfast shop just beside the hotel (closed on Sundays) and it is amazing! Other food options are very nearby too (Tasty steak next door and neighbourhood eateries near the train station). If you want to get a cab, Uber does not work in Hualien and Yilan, download 呼叫小黄 (find taxi) instead.

Hotel has free bicycle to borrow and cycle around the city. Room is very clean and cozy. But there was mosquito that flew in on the 2nd day. So was bitten by it.

Excellent option if arriving and leaving by train as across the road from the Train Station. On arrival staff helped with car hire, explained all services including free snacks and soft drinks. The room was fine and adequate for a short stay. The hotel provides good access to the main shopping areas in the city.

I did not sleep for 3 nights, because I heard how is people talking in next rooms. I was not able to take good shower, because water pressure was so low. About cleanliness is also have problems. For 3 nights nobody even vacuum my room.

The bathroom is outdated and with a lot of molds on the ceiling..caulking... The lighting is dark.. 50s looks. No door in the shower area...water splashes everywhere to the toilet area.. I also had to avoid molds on the wall tiles...which makes it super difficult to shower.

Check In was Fast and Efficient. Staff are Nice plus they have a resident dog named eddy. Room is Small but Clean, Cool and Comfortable. Bed was very comfortable. At the Ground Floor they have Unlimited Snacks. Just near the Hotel, the road around the corner is a Street with Restaurants and Shops.

- 275MichaelG (10/5): Just an awesome little hotel - I spent the night in hualien so got a room at the meci hotel the staff we're just unbelievable it is about a block-and-a-half from the main train station the shower area is mind-boggling the shower apparatus thing just amazing I have a small little room which is all I needed it's very close to everything is exceptionally clean I highly recommend this hotel the town is clean just like every other place I've been to in Taiwan I am very impressed with the cleanliness of this country

- Verified traveler (10/5): - Overall stay in this hotel is good. Though the outlook of the hotel appeared to be a bit old, the hotel interior and the rooms are of good conditions. Room is spacious for solo traveller. The hotel also provide water dispenser which has warm, hot and cold water for travellers. If you find water is not good enough, there are titbits and free flow of tea, coffee and even soft drinks at the hotel lobby too. As for the amenities, food is around the corner and there's a breakfast shop just across the alley which sells decent food. The night markets and shopping area are about 20 to 30 minutes walk depending on your speed. If you are planning to take outbound train to other areas, the train station is around 10 minutes walk from the hotel which is quite convenient. The only con is that you will be able to hear people walking along the corridor, the room is not as sound proof but is still not as bad.

- Ted (10/5): Great spot in Hualien - A wonderful place to stay in Hualien. The room was large and the staff was so helpful with any requests I had (including an ice pack for my broken toe). The location is a couple of blocks from the train/bus station and very convenient for visiting Taroko Gorge. I did not use some of the nice services they offer, including free bicycles. They offer free snacks and coffee. Breakfast is not free but is available. There was a little noise but overall a great stay.

The room is clean and small. there are complimentary snacks and drinks but it can only be consumed at the lobby. It is not walking distance to the Night Market but it can be reached with 35 minutes walking duration.

The family room was good space for a family of 3. Staff was friendly when approached. Just a minor point, the cleaning sign for the rooms should be hung behind the door or at a more obvious area, than at the clothes hanger area, where one can miss easily.

Super convenient location (as other reviews may have already mentioned): - 5min walk from the train station - many food choices close by (excellent breakfast place across the alleyway) - super friendly and accommodating staff - free snacks and soft drinks at lobby (but must be consumed there) - free bikes to use to get around town (local night market is 15/20mins away on foot) - lots of scooter/motorbike/car rentals along the same stretch - rooms are decently sized, well kept and clean Small warning (but not anything against the hotel): like most rural areas, this building can only flush organics down the toilet - e.g. can't flush toilet paper, be prepared to wipe and dispose in a bin within the washroom.

- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay for hikers in Hualien - Stayed here two nights while hiking around Hualien. Great location, the staff were extremely helpful and spoke English well. They assisted me to get taxis because that was the only way to go around (apart from walking or renting a bike). The lobby was stocked with coffee and other drinks and amenities that made it really comfortable to hang around. Room was tidy and well maintained. Good wifi, bathroom looks a but worn out but still not bad.
- ongyy1907 (8/5): Hotel facilities were great and very affordable - Around 10 mins walk from Hualien railway station. Also, you can find 7-11, MOS Burger, McDonald’s, CosMed, Watsons within walking distance. Check-in was fast and staff are willing to assist with queries. The hotel lobby was cosy with a snail theme which was very relaxing. Breakfast not included but there are 2 shops that sell typical taiwanese breakfast such as bread and soya milk that is just 2 minutes walk. (one beside and the other a street away) The room is small but clean. Mattress and pillow were a little soft. Power sockets were sufficient. There was free bicycle rental, hot/warm/cold water dispenser outside the lift lobby outside every level. Soft drinks and snacks are free but have to be consumed at the lobby. Some of the drawbacks that could be improved to as follows: 1) Drain in room 705 does not flow smoothly causing it to choke. 2) Insufficient shelving in the shower area to put your own soap. 3) Install bidet spray next to the toilet bowl.

- Ruth (10/5): Good base for Taroko - We chose this hotel as it was close to the train/bus station for getting to Taroko Gorge. We were incredibly impressed for the quality we got for the price. The room was nice and clean, we had a mountain view, the staff was very friendly and there was free snacks and drinks in the foyer. The night market and town centre are over a mile to walk, but the walk is interesting.
- KPR777 (10/5): An excellent choice for lodging in Hualein City - Meci Hotel is fantastic! It is very well located only 2 blocks from the train station, with easy access to the buses that go to Taroko Gorge every morning as well as 2 blocks from the main street that goes to the center of town, Zhongshan Road. There are LOTS of great dining options within easy walking distance, and it is definitely preferable to stay in this part of town over closer toward the ocean near the Night Market, which can be a bit isolated, and yet is nevertheless only a 15 minute walk away. My quiet room on the 7th floor was fantastic, and had a nice comfortable double bed, mini-bar, desk, flat screen TV, and the most amazing bathroom with an incredible rain shower and 6 body jets. While breakfast is not included, they lobby area does offer free snacks and the vibe of the hotel is very chill and relaxed, with inviting seating areas that are designed to encourage guests to mingle and get to know each other. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly, and spoke good English. When I needed a computer cord to transfer pictures off of my phone to my laptop, they readily lent me what I needed at no charge. I would definitely stay here again and would encourage visitors to spend several days in the area -- at least two in the Taroko National Park if possible. Sadly, I could only spend one day in the park and it was not enough.
- Kaixin (8/5): - The place gives a very homely feel with all the woody decoration. the place is clean and also near to the train station and tourist information centre. Easy to get to the Taroko public bus venue to start your one day tour. The staff are friendly and you can borrow a bicycle to cycle around the city. The room is not exactly big, you may have to hop around if you have 2 luggage lying on the floor at the same time. Just that walking to the other place like the art & cultural place or the night market is abit of distance and public buses are not regular.

- Hayle (8/5): Cozy hostel stay. - The beds were comfy but not much ventilation in the room. The location was near the station but our guide said that's away from the action (30min drive) in the old city. They have free bicycles here so you can borrow it if you need to explore the city. Also enjoyed the free flow drinks in the lobby and playing with the resident pup.

They offered services like helping their clients to book for taxi, car charter service (hiring a driver to take you around), laundry services, etc. Very convenient to train station, local foods, and walkable distance to convenience store. The only downside is that the property is quite old. The carpet looks old, and the faucet is rusted for our washroom. Other than that, I'm pleased with the stay.

- LC (8/5): - The staffs are very friendly and helpful. The location is 10-15 min walk from the train station, across from a park, has a Mountain View. The room is not big but the space is efficiently used. Lobby has amenities, drinks and individually wrapped snacks, hot-cold water and microwave provided. Also has bikes to use with no charge.

- Seeeeat (10/5): Easy Does It - I stayed for 2 nights on a visit to Taroko Gorge. I recommend Meci highly for its convenience and comfort and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. I was able to check in an hour early. I caught the bus from the airport and got off at the train station; it was an easy 5 block walk. The library stop would have been even closer. Reception was friendly and helpful. They explained the differences in tours to me and even called the tour operator with my questions and booked one for me. When I messed up the TV setup in my room, someone came to sort out the remote control. After weeks of tight Taiwan hotels, the large room here was a pleasant surprise. It was comfortable and everything was in working order. There is a park across the street with gorgeous mountains as a backdrop. The free coffee in the lobby was decent and enabled speedy getaways in the morning. I got veggie buns and dumplings from the shop next door for breakfast both days. While exploring the neighborhood, I also tried some of the handmade mochi shops as well as the local draught beer on the next block. If you are taking an express Puyuma (~2 hrs) train to Taipei, consider getting tickets a day or two in advance. I tried buying mine the prior evening but my preferred time was sold out so settled for a later one.

For things just a bit further away, a free bike rental or just grabbing a station taxi are both easy. The family room is dominated by large mattresses on a raised platform. An interesting idea that forces people to do some scooting to get in/out. No breakfast option other than (lots of) street stuff. Staff were very helpful if not as friendly as we normally expect in Taiwan. Barely indulged in the lobby snacks and drinks.

- 637sebastiana (10/5): Wonderful Stay - This hotel is just incredible. We went to Hualian for 5 days to check out Taroko Gorge and we could not have found a better place to stay. The hotel is walking distance to Hualian Station, the place where the Shuttle bus to Taroko Gorge starts from. The hotel itself feels very modern and well designed. Rooms are clean , internet is super fast, you will get free soft drinks in the lobby and the personel is so helpful and friendly. Value for money is amazing. Big recommendation.

No wardrobe or clothes storage (except for a few hooks on the wall), so not very convenient for stays longer than that. Didn’t eat in the restaurant so can’t comment except to say it didn’t appear to be a hive of activity at breakfast time. Would return to this hotel.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Solid small hotel - Well located hotel within 5-10 minute walk from the Hualien train station. The rooms are small and the bathrooms are dated, but overall everything worked fine. We used the hotel as a base to explore Taroko Gorge. The hotel staff spoke decent English and provided restaurant recommendations and arranged a tour guide the night before. At the time of writing, there were no major chain hotels in this small town so this is a good option if you just need a place to sleep and shower. The bed was really hard but not uncomfortable.
- 123kwj (8/5): Clean and budget friendly place to stay - I enjoyed my two nights stay at Meci Hotel while visiting Hualien City for the first time. Location was good for travelers arriving Hualien by train. It's an easy walk that takes probably less than 10 minutes. The bustling Zhongshan Road is right around the corner with tons of food options to choose. Although breakfast is not served/included, there are plenty of cheap breakfast places nearby, one is literally right next to the hotel. I used the hotel's free bike to spend more than 4 hours to explore the wonderful ocean front Nanbin Park and some quiet neighborhood streets in the city. The hotel's young staff are friendly and efficient, however, I was surprised none of them told me about the free drinks & snacks at the far end of the lobby. My two minor negative experiences are: 1. The bed mattress are extremely soft. It is so soft that one can hardly sit on it. 2. The A/C thermostat on the wall seems not working to control the room temperature properly. In my two nights stay, the A/C just stayed on forever, eventually both nights I had to turn A/C off even though the outside temperature still a bit warm and muggy.

One of the staff had a friendly dog, which might not be welcome by all guests. The hotel is modern, clean and generally everything was quite good. I appreciated having shampoo and bath gel in dispensers in the room instead of packets. Notices about keeping quiet in the room made me nervous about noise, but I found the room to be quiet and had no trouble sleeping. My only real complaint was that the room (twin room) was so small there was basically nowhere to put anything (though it would be better for one guest). The hotel offers extra toiletries in the lobby instead of in the bathrooms, because there wouldn't be any place to put them in the bathroom. I would have appreciated a few more hooks, small shelves, and maybe even a luggage stand.

- Wilfredo (6/5): 3 Days at Meci Hotel! - - This hotel have the basics: TV, Air Condition, Good WIFI Connection and a small -very small- fridge. - It is within walking distance from the train station but with the scorching sun, it seems that you are walking forever! - This hotel -in Haulien- looks like a hostel. Not my preference - The check in is very un-usual: They do not allow anybody to check in before 15:00 hours. And it become a mess with so many people trying to get their rooms as soon as possible. I did not like this procedure. I was second on line but the third to be attended. Go figure! - I got a single room with 2 twin beds. I did not like that either! I spoke to the manager who offered to change it the next day. I did not take his offer. I stayed at this property because my credit card was already charged at the time of the reservation. - Will I return to this hotel? Probably not.

- jlytravels (4/5): Good stay but ... - We stayed 2 nights at Meci for our trip to Hualien. Only a short walk (max 8-10 min) from Hualien TRA to Meci. Room was equipped with a modern toilet. Toothbrush, toothpaste, combs, cotton buds, shavers were displayed for self collection at the lobby. Free coffee, tea, soft drinks and snacks are also available. Wifi connection was good! Staff was friendly and helpful in assisting with arranging and booking our day trip to Taroko and assisting us with directions around the city and even provided food recommendations! My only negative comment was on our last day in Meci we found that my husband was bitten by bed bugs which we initially thought it was mosquitos bites at first. Sad that this caused discomfort for him for our entire trip.

- 1000travels (10/5): Charming Hotel with good amenities and in great location - We stayed at Meci Hotel during our stay in Hualien and visit to Taroko Gorge, and we are so glad that we chose this hotel. The location was ideal. It is a short walk from the Hualien train station, and about a short walk to the downtown area. It’s about a 30-40 minute walk or a 5 minute cab ride (NT$100) to the night market. We really enjoyed the walk since it enabled us to soak in Hualien city. On the first day, we used the free hotel bikes and rode around the city and to Nanbin Park where you can find a walking/bike path that hugs the Pacific Ocean. We also asked the hotel to arrange a car service for us to visit Taroko Gorge on one of the days, and the driver was extremely professional and knowledgeable. We paid for an entire day (8-9 hours), and he would drop us off at various locations, and then wait for us. We were able to take our time without having to worry about catching a bus or timetables. The staff was extremely helpful, professional, and friendly. Our room was simple, but in clean and good condition. There is a water kettle, tea, and coffee packs in the rooms, and also a water machine on every floor. There is hot coffee, water, beverages, and all types of snacks in the lobby. In other words, there are plenty of ways to get your hydration in! For breakfast, we only had one option on two of the mornings. The food was made-to-order, and it was delicious (fresh salad, fruit, eggs, toast, ham, etc.), and you also had the option of soup and congee. My guess is that they don’t put out a full buffet breakfast when it’s low season. Our third breakfast fell on a Saturday, and there were more options to choose from. At check-in, they will give you a cardboard postcard, and guests would draw/write comments on it. They hang all the postcards in the lobby—it really added a personal touch to the hotel, which made the stay even memorable. Another tip: there is a pineapple bun/coffee place right on the corner, and it was delicious. For the price, location, and service, this hotel is a 5-star. We would definitely recommend this hotel to our family and friends who are visiting Hualien, Taroko, or the surrounding vicinity.

- wunderlast (6/5): really cute place BUT - My parents, husband and I stayed here for two nights. The hotel is extremely inexpensive for what you get. The lobby is adorable, and I loved the snail theme. I enjoyed the fact that they had plenty free beverages, snacks (and even delicious popsicles!), and toiletries available in the lobby. It was quite generous. Our rooms were really cute although small, and I would have given the place 4 stars if it weren't for the fact that our room smelled very strongly of smoke. They apologized for this, as guests aren't allowed to smoke in the rooms, so it kind of wasn't their fault, however, the cleaning staff should have reported this and tried to air out the room as much as possible before we checked in. They brought up fans after we complained, and it was much better after we came back from a day of sightseeing.
- Bing Hong (10/5): Spacious hotel, close to train station - The room itself was spacious, and its location was really close to the train station (approx 5 mins walk away). Only gripe is that the toilet doors were a little short, and taller travelers will tend to bump their head on the top of the door frame. Other than that, wonderful hotel and highly recommended.
