Guest Reviews
- ANDREW (9/5): This is our second visit, the staff make it special, it’s handy location is great - Old , not in town, Smell from open sewage pit was strong if you were outdoors,
A lot of walk in customers at breakfast time from the campsite made things difficult
- Rachael (10/5): -
- Samantha (8/5): Had a great stay. Sarah lovley best member of staff. Other members of young staff can be rude. They change your table ev - Great grounds massive. Near Coniston and lake. Average hotel room has what u need. Good internet connection. The property was lovely. Can’t fault anything.
- Peter (8/5): - The hotel is in a good location with lovely grounds. We had an accessible room but the lighting could have been a bit better. My wife required eye drops but as the room just had side lights this made it a bit difficult.
- Sam (10/5): -
- Dhia (9/5): We had a great time at the Coniston inn. Location is great. Accommodation was clean and comfy. Staff were very helpful. - Location is great. Gardens are beautiful. Accommodation clean and comfortable. Staff very helpful Nothing
- Chris (5/5): Simply disappointing, would look elsewhere in future - Good location and parking , good size room , good bed Not all but some inattentive staff (Jason in particular)
Very poor shower , rather outdated tv
Average breakfast
Expensive rates but low on overall quality
- Strzalko (9/5): -
- Joanne (6/5): - Location Food
- Joanne (6/5): - Location Staff were too busy so service was poor
- Joanne (6/5): - Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Good powerful showers with modern bathrooms. Lakeside location beautiful Staff were obviously rather overstretched so service was patchy. The dining area was very busy both for our evening meal and breakfast. It felt more like a hostel than a hotel. Food was mass produced and the "award winning" venison and prune pie was very salty, mushy inside and burned on the crust. Overpriced.
- Martyn (10/5): - Excellent location, plenty of parking space. Room very clean. Breakfast was excellent and staff friendly with helpful. Nothing
- Ian (10/5): - Breakfast was good with good quality ingredients
Situation was perfect with gardens down to the lakeside
- Carolyn (10/5): Coniston - Very friendly staff .lovely atmosphere .good facilities and food Nothing
- Michael (8/5): By the lake, nice place - Good breakfast, quiet and spacious room, big car park, friendly It was hoofingly expensive for what we got, accepted that it was Bluebird weekend but it was exceptionally priced. Staff can be quite vacant and get bar and food orders wrong, have to repeat your order 3 times and then still get it wrong isn’t great. WiFi is dreadful.
- Sara (10/5): -
- Jonathan (2/5): Would only return if it was under new management - Location. Lovely grounds. Outside the building was impressive.
Towels. Biscuits left each day on coffee tray.
2 armchairs, coffee table and small dressing table mirror Smell of smoke in room. Bathroom large but no shelf or towel rail so nowhere to put toiletries. Spartan.
Shower leaked a lot onto very large puddle on floor.
Everything seemed to be on the cheap but cost was twice what some other chain B&Bs ask and Coniston Inn was not as well equipped. We paid double their normal charges because there was an event in Coniston.
Breakfast was very poor quality ingredients and poorly cooked. We cancelled our evening meal there
It’s a real pity that a beautiful building is ruined by the managing group. Room soulless and unwelcoming. Could only see the view we paid for when standing beside the window
- Gary (5/5): Gone a bit since our last stay there - Location Bed uncomfortable Room tired Shower didn't work
- Simon (6/5): Great location. Food and the wider hotel experience need an upgrade. - The location on the lakeshore is great. An easy stroll into the village and across the field to the Boating Centre and Bluebird Cafe make this a top spot. The building is classic Lakeland slate architecture which is pleasing. Lots of parking on site. The grounds are lovely. The walls between the rooms are thin and not very soundproof. I could hear conversations clearly from next door and also their TV. Thankfully the couple were not, “enthusiastically romantic” as that could also have been an issue as I imagine it has been for others. One day I stood for a full 10 minutes by the “wait here to be seated” sign in the restaurant. Food is mediocre - much of it seemed like it was frozen rather than fresh - and the menu is uninspiring. Breakfast is totally self-service including tea/coffee. Staff are helpful but there are not enough of them so they are run off their feet. I paid over a thousand pounds for four nights - the hotel needs to do more to justify those prices.
- Phil (4/5): OK hotel, shame about their systems - Good location as we were there for the Bluebird Festival Hotel has a "computer says no" attitude - completely inflexible around the restaurant table booking system. The joke was the system didn't work anyway - as on the two nights we reserved a table the table was occupied when we arrived (on time, by the way) and the staff wouldn't tell people the table was booked. Real shame, totally customer-unfocused. Staff preferred to argue rather than accommodate. Also, we were offered a free drink instead of room service - but to get the drink you had to use their app, and you couldn't have the drink you wanted, which for us was just the cheap house wine (yuk). Seems the housekeeping staff are very poorly valued.
- Neetski (7/5): Great location but overpriced - Superb location just 10 minutes walk from Coniston Water, and 15 minutes walk from village centre.
Large car park, lovely outside area. Extremely expensive. For £534 for 2 nights B and B I was expecting something more luxurious and upmarket, but it was all quite basic.
I'd reserved a table for both evenings: the first day they "lost" the booking so we had to wait and were then given a table right by the draughty door.
Cooked breakfast was ok, just ok.
- simon (10/5): What a fabulous find. Great location and fabulous staff - Fabulous location, lovely staff Can’t think of anything
- Isabel (8/5): -
- David (9/5): Great food, great staff and all together a comfortable, enjoyable stay - We stayed while the Bluebird K7 Festival was on. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had an evening meal which was awesome. The Sirloin steak was the best I have had in a pub for a long time and my wifes battered haddock was beautiful too.
Thanks to all the staff. The room was too hot and the window didn't open ( Room 26 ). It didn't spoil our stay as there was an AC unit in the room which helped cool it down.
- Darren (8/5): Good, staff helpful and friendly, room comfy and clean. - Great location Short menu.
No steak.
- Lesley (10/5): -
- Dawn (9/5): - Location, lakeshore garden, short walk to Boating centre. Clean, comfortable room.Good breakfast selection.
- Sally (8/5): Good stay with group of friends , bar staff a little flustered - Breakfast good. I noticed some residents eating alternative breakfast - would have been good to have indication that we could have had alternative to the buffet. ie poached eggs, scrambled eggs
we opted to have no housekeeping during stay - would have been good to have tea, coffee milk replenished. also we ran out of toilet paper
- Graham (6/5): excellent location - breakfast was very good, location was excellent attitude of staff, spoke with three members all were not pleasent . they lost our dinner reservation despite me having an email confirmation
- Toni (9/5): Lovely stay - Everything Nothing
- Amy (9/5): We had a lovely stay at the Coniston Inn. The kindness of the staff (especially Mikey, Sarah & Chris) made our stay -
- Labonny (7/5): Comfy bed and great location -
- Joanne (10/5): - Very friendly, fantastic food, location amazing, bed very comfortable, perfect for dogs too.
- Gaskin (9/5): -
- ALEKSANDR (10/5): Very convenient location, especially for those who travel by car. No complaints about the service, polite staff. Spaciou - Location. Service. None
- Sar Vaughan (10/5): Great location and affordable - Beautiful building set on the lakeside .
Bar menu/drinks really good and not to expensive .Car parking on site and easy walking distance to lake and shops.
- James (10/5): Excellent value for money in a beautiful part of the world. - I loved the location, the views, the friendliness and the welcome for our two dogs. I have left my ruck sack in the room and despite telephoning and leaving the phone ringing for a good 40 minutes they have still not answered my call. Very frustrating. I'm going to email when I get in work, hopefully I will receive a reply soon.
- Paul (10/5): Perfect place to go and relax with the dog. - Perfect place to go and relax with the dog. Very dog friendly and have gluten free food and beer. Location perfect to relax. Staff very friendly. Nothing really, exceeded our expectations
- Penny (9/5): Great stay. Loved the proximity to the lake and town - Great location. Comfortable quiet room Bedroom a bit hot with the under floor heating that you couldn’t control
- Peter (8/5): Good stopover, convenient for Coniston area - Good location, very dog friendly, food good. Dogs allowed in restaurant Very busy bar but it was a weekend!
High price for room plus breakfast
- Richard (10/5): Would stay again. The hotel was great and the staff were brilliant. - The property was brilliant, very clean, well looked after and great facilities. The bar/restaurant were lovely and the staff were great Nothing
- Dave (9/5): Short break to celebrate our anniversary - Beautiful surroundings and setting
- Jenni (4/5): Disappointing stay that we wouldn’t repeat. - It had great outdoor space and convenient proximity to Coniston Water The bedroom was not Superior as described at all. The bathroom was the size of a wardrobe and unbearably hot. There were two fans in the room coated in dust, so just blew dusty hot air around. There was no water provided in the room and the room didn’t come with a fridge so you couldn’t stay hydrated through the tropical temperature at night.
- ANGELA (9/5): Lovely hotel would stay again, - Location was amazing. Staff were helpful and polite, food was lovely. Our room was very warm, despite having the window open, and using the a/c often. The corridor leading to our room was also very warm.
- Soraya (10/5): -
- Kelway (9/5): Excellent stay. - Lovely comfy rooms, lovely friendly staff, superb food and good value. Lovely grounds and walk to the lake. Good parking.
Excellent breakfast selection and service.
Clean loos. Can't think of anything.
- Joan (7/5): Disappointing and characterless - Attractive location. Food was good. Restaurant and bar was spacious and clean. Appeared short staffed. The bar/reception person was not friendly and had an indifferent attitude. Although a lovely, old building outwardly inside it had no atmosphere in the bar and the bedroom resembled a premier inn.
- Marlene (8/5): -
- Gary (8/5): -
- Colin (8/5): Short stay to celebrate anniversary. All we wanted and needed. - Location superb, breakfast all you could hope for.
- Alexander (10/5): -
- Davis (10/5): -
- dawn (9/5): -
- Tracey (7/5): -
- Robert (9/5): - Staff and location were superb ,comfortable bed The room was dark and lacked a decent window.
- Maurício Leonardo (10/5): Great place ! - Great place. Very well located.
Staff was really amazing and helped us a lot. The Front Desk Gentleman gave us a strong hand to solve some problems with my rented car.
Room is pretty nice. The restaurant / PUB is excellent.
Breakfast is great. Landscape is a very special one.
We plan to visit this place again. Nothing.
- joanne (10/5): A perfect night away in a comfortable room with stunning views - This was a night away for my daughter's birthday and it was exceptional from start to finish. The staff couldn't be any friendlier or more professional and everything was above and beyond my expectations. They gave us rooms with views as requested and next to each other even though I'd requested a room for a pet. The breakfast has so much choice. There honestly was not one thing I can think of that I didn't like.
- Gerard (7/5): -
- Dawn (10/5): - Beautiful location right on the lake. Lots of outdoor space and comfortable interiors Nothing to dislike
- Nessie (6/5): Kind staff, great location, comfortable enough. - Great location, handy for Cumbria way, fantastic they take dogs, nice sized room and excellent shower. Bit pricey but probably worth it. Good breakfast. 1. My room was next to where staff congregated in the early morning, chatting near my open window, which was unfortunate. No view from the room I had (room10), ducting and close to neighbouring building. 2. Tried booking a meal but online table booking didn’t work and couldn’t phone reception directly- gave up and ate at the Yewdale in Coniston.
- Burnand (6/5): Disappointed - The setting is amazing and deserves a better offering.
The bed was very comfortable.
Ample car parking.
Far better use could be made of the large site and grounds The attitude of the staff was very poor. Training is required, assuming this isn't the company ethos.
The common parts were too hot.
Food presentation was poor.

Das Hotelpersonal war freundlich und die Zimmer sauber. Das Zimmer ist in die Jahre gekommen (v.a das Badezimmer).

- Eden (8/5): Enjoyable stay, would recommend. Excellent breakfast, good service and wonderful views of coniston - Stunning location, excellent breakfast, comfy beds, clean rooms The room was a little hot and stuffy but the weather can’t be helped. Fan was provided which was a god send given the windows only open a tiny bit. Also the amount of flies in dining area, maybe fly catchers or netted windows in restaurants area.
- Kyra (9/5): -
